Fe80.0000.0000 flapping
Hi ,
I received many fe80.0000.0000 flapping on the switch. I can not find the mac fe80.0000.0000. Is it a normal mac address? How to resolve this problem?

Hello Sam,
Generally , we see this kind of mac flap if STP is not stable in the network or server connected on two ports and teaming is not working properly . But i checked this mac address and this seems not a valid mac address .
So it could be some kind of attacks . Please check what is connected on fa0/47 and port
Fa0/48 and verify the mac address of connected device . If connected device address matched then check the teaming configuration otherwise its a kind of attack . If require disconnect the host from the network ,.

Mac-auth-bypass fails MAC: 0000.0000.0000
I have an old JetDirect that doesn't support 802.1x. I have enabled MAB on the port where it connects, but for some reason MAB fails. I enabled dot1x debug and will paste the output in a few here. I know my dot1x config is good.. i have clients authenticating via RADIUS to my ACS server. I also have another port using MAB, not a JetDirect though, both ports are configured identically. From the debugs, it seems that the switch can't glean the mac of the JetDirect. Any ideas? This is a 3750 with 12.2(44)SE2. I've tried to shut/no shut the interface, reset the JetDirect, nothing seems to work. I see no requests on my ACS server for this device's MAC address.

ARP detstination mac-address 0000.0000.0000
Internet Router--->3550 Switch-->Nortel Contivity
63.169.164.134-->63.169.164.140--> 63.169.140.136
All the devices are having public IP addresses and are in Vlan 100.
Sometimes the Internet Router is not able to ping or connect to the Contivity where as the switch is able to access both the devices (Internet Rtr & Contivity).
While checking on the switch & Internet rtr i capture the following logs.
Switch#sh log
Mar 25 11:17:17.990 EDT: IP ARP: creating incomplete entry for IP address: 63.169.164.136 interface Vlan100

We have done a static ARPA entry in internet rtr for Contivity but still the issue remains same. The moment the issue persists again i tried to clear the arp on switch but it didn't make router to get reply from Contivity when i did the same clear arp-cache on internet rtr, it started getting communicate with Contivity.
I am not able to find the solution of this issue and the reason for that, now every time i have to do clear ip arp-cache on rtr whenever the issue comes down.
Also i want to understand the situation when a dest mac-address can be 0000.0000.0000.
Any help on this will be appreciated.
Thanks.Bhupesh
If a router receives a packet to forward to a destination address which is on a local LAN but the destination IP address does not appear in the arp table then the router creates an incomplete entry in the ARP table (it is incomplete because the router does not have the destination MAC address and is attempting to learn it). The router creates the incomplete entry in the ARP table and sends an ARP request. If the router receives an ARP response then it puts the destination MAC address into the ARP table and the entry is now complete. If no ARP response is received the router will purge the incomplete entry. Note that the router can not forward the IP packet that caused the incomplete entry and the router will drop that IP packet.
In considering the problem with contivity I had been assuming that the problem was on rtr. But it occurs to me that it is quite possible (and even likely given the fact that you mention which is that in the problem the switch can still ping contivity ) that the problem is on contivity. I wonder if for some reason contivity gets an incorrect MAC for rtr? I suspect that clear arp on rtr fixes the problem because as it clears the arp table I believe that rtr will send a gratuitous arp which refreshes the ARP entry in contivity. In the time of the problem can you check the table in contivity?

Hey guys,
I've used xp_cmdpowershell from SQL Server 2008 R2 to execute a powershell scripts.
One of this scripts creates a internetexplorer.application object.
When I execute this script on powershell(version 2.0), it runs.
But when trie to execute for xp_cmdpowershell it fails.
error output:
Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} error: 80070005
script example:
$ie = New-object -com 'internetexplorer.application'
$ie.navigate("http://www.google.com")
$ie.visible = 1
sleep -s 10
$ie.quit()
xp_cmdpowershell example:
EXEC master..xp_cmdshell 'powershell C:\DataLocalTopRonda\scr.ps1';
Anyone have any ideas? Any help will be appreciated.8007005 is typically 'Access Denied'. Did you verify DCOM permissions to this class object? Are you using the same credentials in the PowerShell console as what is being done in SQL?

PushpendraHello Pushpendra,
Microsoft does not currently recommend, and does not support, Automation of Microsoft Office applications from any unattended, non-interactive client application or component (including ASP, ASP.NET, DCOM, and NT Services), because Office may exhibit
unstable behavior and/or deadlock when Office is run in this environment.
If you are building a solution that runs in a server-side context, you should try to use components that have been made safe for unattended execution. Or, you should try to find alternatives that allow at least part of the code to run client-side.
If you use an Office application from a server-side solution, the application will lack many of the necessary capabilities to run successfully. Additionally, you will be taking risks with the stability of your overall solution.
You can read more about that in the
Considerations for server-side Automation of Office article.
Consider using the Open XML SDK, see
Welcome to the Open XML SDK 2.5 for Office . Also any third-party components can be used instead. -

Seem like only the Root mac is changing and not the root bridge.Hi ,
Seems you are getting superior BPDU from Gi0/2 . mac address 0000.0000.0080 below is Xerox corporation .
Do you have xeror switches in your network . Trace the mac and check if you have really a xeror switch and that suppose to be a root bridge. If not then decrease the xeror switch priority .
http://www.coffer.com/mac_find/?string=0000.0000.0080
If its not a switch then check why its generating a bpdu . If it is not require then shutdown the box or change the priority .

I have a outlook 2007 plugin created in VS 2008 that reads calendar meetings. This plugin also works with outlook 2010. I used to debug this application from VS 2010 as well.
Last month, I installed Office 365 to test something. Later I uninstalled this version but after that my plugin application is crashing, every time a new appointment/meeting is created in calendar.
I get the below error:

That doesn't make sense and aren't valid reasons for 2012 (not that you can necessarily change it now).
This line jumps out at me in the log file though: "An MP exists on this machine".
That looks like the system you are installing on previously had an MP on it. I would delete the ccm namespace in WMI, cleanup all reference to ccm and Configuratin Manager from the registry, and then try again.

Packet drops caused by flapping FabricPath SSID's in MAC entries on N5K.
Hi there,
I have a strange issue in flapping MAC entries caused by ARP replies from the OTV AED for the HSRP vip address. Our Datacenter Infrastructure is build with N7K in the core with 2 VDC's, one for OTV and one for Fabricpath and vPC's. The access layer is build with N5K with Fabricpath between N7K and N5K. Routing occurs in the N7K with HSRP in both datacenters with vlan stretching and FHRP filtering in OTV, so active routers in both datacenters. The N7K is in a vPC domain and the N5K in another vPC domain. The OTV layer is connected via vPC uplinks.Traffic forwarding (when routed) from host connected to N5K is based on MAC entries in N5K for the HSRP vip address. In the sample below you see a fabricpath destination for HSRP vip entries. These entries are build based on ARP replies from the active HSRP router. The entry with SSID=12 is based on a ARP reply from the OTV AED, caused by the proxy-arp nature from OTV. These entries are changing continously for all vlans. Most of the time the SSID =0, but sometimes there changing. When i set up a ping to a host behind the N5K, there are time-outs occuring. At that moment the reply from the host is seen on the uplink to the OTV AED.

I did not found any familiair problems on forums. I want to block the ARP replies on the uplink to the OTV AED, but don't know if there's already a solution for this? So please help!
This is the (hopefully) solution i intend to apply:
mac access-list HSRP_VMAC
10 deny 0000.0c07.ac00 0000.0000.00ff any 0x806
20 deny 0000.0c9f.f000 0000.0000.0fff any 0x806
30 permit any any
interface port-channel 3
mac port access-group HSRP_VMAC
interface port-channel 4
mac port access-group HSRP_VMAC
Regards,
Frans BragonjeHi,
if you remove "encryption mode ciphers aes-ccm tkip" from the radio interface does it help?
it should remain like this:
interface Dot11Radio0
no ip address
no ip route-cache
encryption vlan 1 mode ciphers aes-ccm tkip
ssid WLAN_Corporate
ssid WLAN_HartKitGuest
HTH,
Tiago

G4 Mac mini sporadic sleeps & crashes
My G4 mac mini has had a consistent problem across two OSs. Both in Tiger and now in Leopard my mac seems to kernel panic and shut down. I restart and again if any taxing job is undertaken it again fails. I have included my log files and if anyone is having the same problem or, better, knows a solution it would be greatly appreciated as it drives me crazy.

Two possible causes immediately come to mind, since you say the problem occurs with both Tiger and Leopard:
1) The leading cause of kernel panics is RAM. Has the RAM in this Mini been upgraded since it left the factory? Most RAM problems will not be detected by the Apple Hardware test. The most definitive test is to swap out the RAM. If the problem disappears, then the prior RAM was the cause.
2) Since you say this occurs during "taxing jobs", then overheating has to be considered. Be sure the mini has free access to room temperature air -- and that it is not sitting on other heat-producing equipment. Even so, its cooling ability may have been compromised over time by a build-up of dust or pet hair inside the Mini or on its vents. It is also possible that the thermal pad between the CPU and the heatsink is breaking down and causing poorer heat transfer.
If the problem is heat-related I would expect the fan to increase in speed and loudness before the crash. Are you hearing this? -
I am running a small network on a MacPro running OS X server 10.5.4 with 2 mac clients and 2 windows clients. The OS X server was installed by an apple specialist but it is still not working properly and I find it hard to believe that it is a bug is the software as it seems to be a fundamental problem which most people would have encountered.
Each user has their home directories stored on a separate drive on the server and iCal server is running. However, when a Mac client logs into the network they iCal does not work properly. It either will not show any calendars or if it does then a new event cannot be entered.
Below is an extract from the client message log from rebooting the machine. The first problems with iCal seem to occur at 1:20:48:

Once loaded iCal does not respond and a "force quit" is the only option.
I have looked at the logs in Server Admin and I can't seem to see any problems at about the same time.
I would be grateful if someone could let me know whether this is a bug with the software or whether there is a solution. For the time being, the mac users are having to use portable home directories in order to allow them to use iCal.
<Edited by Moderator>Hi
I've not long ago spotted it. It is a longish log. I would sort out that problem anyway because it can't be good for that user.
What needs to happen is a sampling of a the log server side when the problems occur for the clients. It would be a good idea if you posted a little more about how the server is configured. Are you using Server Preferences to administer the Server by any chance? What is the result of issuing this command from terminal:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
Post the result. Did the apple engineer configure internal DNS & DHCP Services to accommodate the web and ical services? Is the web service running? Are you using virtual domains? Are the client macs using the Server to resolve DNS?
As you can see lots of questions. If you are using Server Preferences then I'm going to have to stop trying to assist you. Please don't think there is anything wrong with your server because you are using the application, because there is not. Neither is there anything wrong with the choices made by the original guy. It's just I don't deal with anything other than Advanced. I have little knowledge of Server Preferences. Please don't be tempted to 'convert' to Advanced thinking it may 'improve' matters. It's just as likely it will make things worse.
Consider getting the original guy back in and having him do it for you again. Who knows you may find things will go a lot smoother this time?

Connection drops or extremely slow connection
Hello,
I have an Early 2008 Macbook Pro with Mac OS X 10.5.5. By the time I was running on 10.5.2 my Wi-Fi connection used to work perfectly, but when I updated to 10.5.3 I started to have so many problems with it that I even went back to 10.5.2 for a while.
I remember posting a thread in a forum and people answered me that it was impossible for a software update to mess up my connection. I proved it by downgrading and gaining full connectivity back. I've also found hundreds of people who have been having the exact same problem, but it appears as if Apple just doesn't care enough to give a definitive solution. Instead, I've tried tons of other so-called solutions from other people, that have not done anything good for me.
The problem is as follows: I can perfectly connect to my home network, but after 30 seconds- 2 minutes, my signal drops to just 1 bar (from full 4 bars) and I can no longer use it. To fix it, I have to disable my Airport card and then enable it back, to get another 30 seconds - 2 minutes. If I ever get to be connected for more than 2 minutes, my connection gets reaaaally slow (as slow that it can take me more than 5 minutes to download a 100 KB file).
Anyway, I'm 100% sure this is a SOFTWARE issue since the same computer running on Windows and resting at the exact same place doesn't have a single problem connecting. Of course, it has nothing to do with my router configuration. It is completely, entirely, 100% a problem related to Mac OS X 10.5.3 and above.
I love my computer in many ways, but this issue has been killing me bit by bit. What does a computer without a proper Internet connection work for? Then you can remotely understand my frustration.
Please, if you have had the same problem post it here. Apple has to do something about this, because I can't believe I bought such a useless computer!
Thanks.Have tried both your suggestions ( and every other on Discussions). Here is this mornings console log:

I believe the multiple error lines are caused by me clicking on the AirPort Status icon on the menu bar to check the Transmit Rate.

Very Odd Kernel Panic On Boot Up
I just today had a one-of-a-kind kernel panic on bootup from a completely shutdown machine. The box is a PowerMac G4, Mirrored Drive Door, dual-core 1.25 GHz, OS X 10.4.9, 512 MB factory installed RAM and 512 User-installed Ram for a total of 1GB. Have
Energized computer. Diverted attention. When I turned around to sit down and get to work, I was confronted with the following screen: There was the multi-lingual Kernel panic box on the gray screen, the "throbber" that usually rotates beneath the dark-gray Apple logo rotating away, and "overprinted" on all this was the "international no" symbol centered is a round-cornered translucent box (similar to what you see when you use the keyboard to alter the volume backing up the speaker icon), in the absolute center of the screen.
I powered down the computer and powered it up. Boot without a problem.
I then restarted the computer. Restarted flawlessly.
After using it for a little while, I did a full shut down and restart, used it for a little while, and shut down and restarted again. All these evolutions completed without failure or problems of any kind.
I've verified the startup disk successfully, SMART status is "Verified" for this hard disk, and have performed permissions repair successfully–with no indications of any permissions having to be repaired. All seems to be working normally and well.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this? I've Googled for this problem, and searched these forums, and have found nothing to compare to this.
For general edification, I've included the output of system.log for what looks like the time of the first failed boot and the boot immediately after. For the record, my two peripherals in constant use are a LaCie 60GB FW HD and a Wacom Intuos tablet, which is my primary somatic pointing device at this time–this log excerpt follows.
I cannot locate any report on this event in any kernel log. I also put the machine to sleep to check for kernel panic on wakeup from sleep (no problems there either). And the 512MB user-installed RAM is a Crucial memory module that has been in use for at least a year with no problems.
Thanks in advance for any insights.
Sam Klein.
