  • No logon after migration assistant for migrated account

I just installed a new SSD in my Mac Pro. Installed 10.8 Created a temp account. Upgraded to 10.9 Ran Migration Assistant and migrated profile from the original hard drive still installed. Everything transferred but no logon on is available for the migrated account on the logon screen. Logged on and off, same thing. How do I logon to the migrated account.

Is the migrated user data inside /Users?
Open System Preferences & check that if user is listed inside Users & Groups.
If it doesn't exist you can create a new user, just take care to make sure the 'shortname' matches the name of the users home folder. It should prompt you to 'reuse' the existing home folder, otherwise it will just create a new user & default home folder.

  • Oracle Database Migration Assistant for Unicode (DMU) is now available!

Oracle Database Migration Assistant for Unicode (DMU) is a next-generation GUI migration tool to help you migrate your databases to the Unicode character set. It is free for customers with database support contracts. The DMU is built on the same GUI platform as SQL Developer and JDeveloper. It uses dedicated RDBMS functionality to scan and convert a database to AL32UTF8 (or to the deprecated UTF8, if needed for some reasons). For existing AL32UTF8 and UTF8 databases, it provides a validation mode to check if data is really encoded in UTF-8. Learn more about the tool on its OTN pages.
There is a new Database Migration Assistant for Unicode. We encourage you to post all questions related to the tool and to the database character set migration process in general to that forum.
    Thanks,
    The DMU Development Team

    HI there!
7.6.03 ? Why do you use outdated software for your migration.
    At least use 7.6.06 or 7.7.07 !
About the performance topic - well, you've to figure out what the database is waiting for.
Activate time measurement, activate the DBanalyzer with a short snapshot interval (say 120 or 60 seconds) and check what warnings you get.
Also you should use the parameter check to make sure that you don't run into any setup-induced bottlenecks.
Apart from these very basic prerequisites for the analysis of this issue, you may want to check
SAP Note 1464560 FAQ: R3load on MaxDB
Maybe you can use some of the performance features available in the current R3load versions.
    regards,
    Lars
    p.s.
open a support message if you're not able to do the performance analysis yourself.

  • Preview of the Database Migration Assistant for Unicode

    Dear Forum Readers,
Are you attending Oracle OpenWorld next week in San Francisco? Is the process of migrating an existing database to Unicode (AL32UTF8/UTF8) of interest to you? If your answer is "yes" to both questions, you will be certainly interested in the following announcement: Database Migration Assistant for Unicode at Oracle OpenWorld

    Hello,
SQL Server 2012 setup program won’t allow you to perform a downgrade from SQL Server 2014 Express Edition. Backup/Restore
and Detach/Attach won’t help you either.
One option you have left is using SQL Server Import/Export Wizard as explained on the following article.
    http://www.mytechmantra.com/LearnSQLServer/Downgrade_SQL_Server_Database_P1.html
    Hope this helps.

  • HT4413 Migration Assistant for a brand new mac that has been used already?

My dad bought a Mini but has been using it for a few months but didn't transfer anything from his old Mac. All his address book entries and files are still on his original Mac. Can Migration Assistant still be of help to transfer over the data without erasing what he's accumlated on his new Mac? Is it going to write over his email for instance?
    Thanks!

Migration Assistant is not the tool you need to use at this point. Instead you should manually copy the data you want from the old computer to the new computer. If both computers have Firewire ports then use Target Disk Mode - Transferring files between two computers using FireWire. Boot the old computer into TDM and the new computer normally. You should then find a disk icon for the old computer's drive on the Desktop of the new computer.
Before you do any of the described file copying below be sure you have quit Mail and Address Book if they are now open except where directed.
For Mail you open Mail and select Import from the File menu. Check the top option to import from Apple Mail. Navigate on the old computer to its /Users/username/Library/Mail/ folder and then locate a folder named "Mailboxes." Select the folder and click on the Open button. Select the mailboxes you want to import and click on the Import/OK button. This will import the old mail to a new set of mailboxes in Mail under a mailbox named Imported. You can then move the old mail to wherever you want in Mail.
For contacts locate the /Users/username/Library/Applications Support/AddressBook/ folder. Copy the entire folder to the new computer to the same location on the new computer.
Last, navigate to the /Users/username/Library/Preferences/ folder and copy these preference files: com.apple.mail.plist and all beginning with com.apple.AddressBook. Copy them to the same location on the new computer.

  • Migration assistant for entourage to outlook?

I used the Setup Assistant to transfer a Time Machine Backup of a macbook to my new macbook. Everything transferred fine except the Entourage database. I upgraded to Outlook 2011 for Mac. I have tried everything to no avail. Do you suppose I could use migration assistant to transfer the Entourage database to the new Outlook account?

  • I need some help with Migration Assistant for transferring data

I would like to transfer selected items from my iMac (G4) to a new MacBook Pro using Migration Assistant, Can I selectively choose things to transfer? And are there any problems going from a G4 to an Intel-based machine? I'm mostly interested in transferring iPhoto photos and music from iTunes.

Migrating data other than your home folder may replace Intel components with PowerPC ones on the MacBook Pro, which will cause slow performance. Dragging over applications manually by restarting the old Mac with the T key held down and then placing them in the new Mac's Applications folder will work with many applications, but not all; any applications for which this doesn't work will need to be reinstalled.

  • Where can i download migration assistant for mac os 10.4.1.1 update

Where can i find the migration assistant upgrade download for a mac OS 10.4.1   I am trying to copy files from Mac 0sx 10.4.1.1 to a new mac

The update is available here, but you should manually move files via File Sharing or Target Disk mode instead of using it in that configuration.

  • Migration assistant for mail

Having trouble getting the migration assistant to transfer files from my iBook to my new MacBook. I decided to move files manually. What I would like to ask is does anyone know the files to transfer so that mail will have all the log in files for the mail accounts and all the various e-mails and folders intact on the MacBook.
    Thank you
    Steve

    Plan to manually transfer mail files from my iBook - emails and accounts - manually to my new to MacBook as Migration Assistant won&t work. Tried to find the file as instructed but have following issues;
(The messages are stored in ~/Library/Mail) checked this but this file is only 4K but I have about 5 years work of files in my old computers mail - this doesn't make sense. Found at Library/Mail/AccountTypes/com.macaccounts/MailAccount.plist - there were no other folder options in this progression where the mails could be.
(The account settings and other application preferences are stored in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist) com.apple.mail.plist file doesn't exist here.
Any ideas welcome - thank you

  • I used migration assistant for old MacBook Pro to New MacBook Pro

Today, after being on the phone to applecare I uses migration assistant to copy files, applications etc from my old macbook pro to my new one using firewire, but only somethings copied for example, none of my photos, or music came over and also a lot of the software is asking for verification and codes etc. When the applecare person asked me to restart the old macbook pro holding down the "t" key, when it restarts all it shows is a firewire icon bouncing around on the screen like a screen saver, giving me no access to the old mac and therefore having to choose the transfer "from a time machine back up or other disk" option instead of the "from another mac" option, could that be the problem? Has anyone else experiamced this?

I did choose "other disk" cause it wouldn't let me choose the "from another mac" option. I'm thinking this is why not all of my stuff transfered? Also is it strange that the old mac just had the firwire icon bouncing around on the screen the whole time?
    Thanks

  • Migration assistant for ssd

I am working to transfer my files from a 24" iMac to a new 27" iMac with an SSD and 2TB spin drive.  Unfortunately migration assistant is unable to help me as my old accounts are much too big.  Therefore it tells me that the SSD is too small and will not move the files over.  I have tried to piecemeal them over putting all the applications and system information on the SSD and the User files on the spin drive, however it has not been successful.  I have had one trip to the genius bar already and spent an hour there to accomplish a few things, but then to still not have iPhoto or iTunes have access to my libraries.  I am frustrated as many times it will not grant me access to some of the files saying I don't have "permission" to access them even though I am the administrator.  Has anyone else run into these challenges?

Your best bet is to start over.     Erase the SSD, reinstall OSX, then use Setup Assistant to restore apps and user accounts to the SSD, but omit the contents of all the sub-folders (Desktop, Documents, etc.) in most or all home folders.  Connect via Firewire/Target disk mode for best results.  See How do I set up a new Mac from my old Mac or its backups?, for instructions, and note the green box there.
    Then for each user account:
    Log on to the account
Copy that user's entire home folder from the old Mac to the new Mac's HD
Change the "Home directory" to the home folder you just copied (per the blue box in the article below).
Log off and back on for that to be effective.
Make sure everything is present and working properly.
See Transferring Home Folders not on a Startup volume for details on those steps.
When you're sure everything is in the right places, delete the partial home folders from the SSD.
Do, however, leave at least a minimal Admin account on the SSD.

  • Migration Assistant for Switcher

Still waiting for mine ... oh well, at least I'm not alone (anyone received their MBPs from resellers). Anyhow, does Migration Assistant work for those switching from a Windows based computer?

Unfortunately, no it doesn.t - its Mac -> Mac only.
As a recent switcher myself (6 months), I recommend you just take your documentsMP3spictures on a CD/DVD/External HD and go from there.
Don't fight the OS....you will want to do things the Windows way, and get frustrated because it doesn't work that way.

  • Migration assistant for videos

can migration assistant be used to transfer movies from an older iMac to a new iMac so that they are ready to be used by iMovies on the new iMac?  The old iMac is running iMovies '11 version 9.0.9?  The new iMac should have iMovies version 10.0.5.

The main difference is that MA is not a file by file tool. Furthermore, it will not write files into an already existing account. Drag and Drop can be used that way as can most any backup utility. If maintaining privileges is important then use a backup tool. Here are some good ones:
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. SuperDuper!
      4. Synk Pro
      5. Tri-Backup
Others may be found at MacUpdate.
