FEATURE REQUEST: illuminate keyboard on wake from sleep and passwd required

I've had my MBA for about a week and a half now. Slick little machine. Love it. There's one thing it doesn't do that's driving me crazy. Well, not literally crazy, but it is annoying. To reproduce:
1. System Preferences -> Security -> check "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen saver." Quit System Preferences.
2. Press F6 enough times to make sure the keys are illuminated.
3. Close the display and wait for the computer to go to sleep.
4. Open the display and wait for the computer to wake.
5. The screen will turn on and the password prompt will appear. However, the keys are not illuminted! If you're in the dark, you have to hunt for the right keys to enter your password.
6. After you enter your password, you are brought back to whatever you were doing when you closed the display in step 3, and the keys light up.
The keys should light up when you open the display, not once you've unlocked the machine!
Bug!

It's best you send this directly to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback
Have a nice day.

I cannot get the new mac mini to wake from sleep and trigger the displays - this is the second mac mini I have had and both have had the same issues. It worked before on my macbook extremely well...
Using 2 displays, connected via HDMI and thunderbolt
Been on to support a number of times now - is anyone experiencing the same issues?

    BUMP.
I actually showed this to Apple geniuses when I took my computer to the apple store, and it's still here. In console it says:
    kernel[0]: Previous Shutdown Cause: -128
I don't know if that's related or not, but maybe helps?

  • Freeze, no wake from sleep, and one beep repeats on restart -- intermittent

My 4 week-old macbook pro 5,3 (2.8GHz, 4GB) started having trouble waking from sleep this week. At first, a hard reboot solved the problem. Yesterday, it would not wake from sleep and the sleep light would blink twice then repeat. Upon hard reboot, this time it emitted a loud beep repeatedly (one single beep, then silence) and could not boot the OS.
I called Apple and tried all the various reboot key combinations and also inserted the OSX CD and tried to boot from CD. None of this worked, just got the beep beep beep.. They eventually said this indicated a bad logic board and scheduled an appointment at the Genius bar.
The strange thing is, I was trying to eject the OSX install CD and mistakenly thought that holding down E during reboot would do this (maybe this was some trick from old macs, can't remember..) and it booted up just fine! It worked overnight, then froze again the next day. After hard reboot, it was back to the beeps again. This time, I immediately tried holding down E again and it worked again!
Obviously I have a major hardware problem, but this at least allowed me to do a time machine backup before taking the computer in for service. It may be a coincidence, but twice in a row certainly is strange. Has anyone had anything like this happen to them? Thanks!

    Hello.
I've had this issue too. I've found that I can reproduce this issue by putting the computer to sleep when there is major hard drive activity.
First, reset the PMU. That didn't work for me, but it might for you.
If that doesn't work, reset the PRAM. That didn't work for me either, but it might for you.
If neither of those work, here's how I was able to solve the problem:
1: Open System Preferences and go to Energy Saver.
2: Find how many minutes it is before the computer goes to sleep. Remember this number; you'll need it later.
    3: Open Terminal.
4: Type "sudo pmset -a disksleep n" where n is a number greater than zero but less than the number from step 2.
5: Enter an administrator password at the "Password:" prompt.
6: Remember in the future not to put the computer to sleep when the hard drive is busy.
    Good luck!

  • Mac Pro will not shut down, wakes from sleep and will not start up in safe mode (restarts).

Wakes from sleep about every 4.5 mins, here is the log from wake from sleep:

And will not start up in safe mode. I have reset PRAM and SMC. Also restarted with no startup items, no luck. Had the problem of waking from sleep and not shutting down in 10.7, updated to 10.8 hoping for fix, no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Hi, this log has some similarities to my ipod touch which seems to be not sleeping properly due to wireless issues. Can I check - are you using a wifi connection - if so have you tried ethernet?

  • MacbookPro won't wake from sleep and reboots

Since installing Yosemite this morning, my MacbookPro won't wake from sleep, it reboots. I have also had one instance of a black screen forcing a hard reset. On rebooting I get a popup about a graphics error, my machine is a 2013 model so I wouldn't have expected any compatibility issues and it was rock solid until I upgraded the OS, any thoughts?

And this is the panic report I get every time:

  • IPhone will not wake from sleep and locks up with new MMS update

    Hey everyone,
Has anyone had these problems with their new update as well?
    1) Sometimes my iPhone will not wake from sleep mode, I have to hold down both buttons for it to restart...I do this about 5 times a day!
    2) I cannot send SMS messages and when I send more than one sometimes the iPhone locks up and will not unfreeze.
Does anyone know if this is an Apple update issue or if it is an AT&T issue? And if this is being addressed?
Apple, if you read this could there be an update to all members what is going on?

I am experiencing the same issue with iPhone 3GS. After yesterday update to 3.1.2, it is a bit better in the sense that I can restart the iPhone slightly faster but still getting frozen screen during a call. I will try to call support once more. I don't believe that the problem is solved in the new update.

  • Mac takes 5 mins to wake from sleep and I have bizarre log files

Can anyone help me figure out what is plaguing my mac. Is it haunted?
My Macbook Pro (mid 2012 ish) is behaving very strangely. When I wake it up from sleep, it takes five minutes before it is responsive and lets me log in. The progress bar at the bottom rapidly moves to the last bar, then freezes for five minutes.
When I look at the logs, there is bizarre behavior. I get pages and pages of these kind of events:
    Jan 28 12:13:18 Matts-MacBook-Pro-2 kernel[0]: [0x8076547000, 0x1000]

    Like, 20 or thirty pages.
My Mac wakes itself up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason, performs some operations, and then logs thousands of the kernel events like the one above.
My Mac also seems to be trying to connect to strange DNS addresses.
I uploaded a copy of the bizarre log files here.
    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/59141003/Bizarre%20logs.rtf
It is malware? Is it a configuration issue? Is there a ghost in the machine?
    Appreciate anyone's help with this.
    Thanks much,
    Matt

Unfortunately that didn't fix it. I removed the network drive (and everything else) from login items and there are still problems. The Macbook only takes 2-3 minutes to wake, but this is still a long time. (Strangely, immediately after I removed the login item, the Mac woke up in ~30 seconds). There is also some sort of kernel that is occurring thousands of times while the Mac is sleeping. No idea why.
    Any ideas? Log files below:

  • G5 WON'T WAKE FROM SLEEP AND RESTARTS WHEN PUT TO SLEEP

My apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong category. I am having some major problems with my iMac G5 running Tiger. The first problem was that when I put the computer to sleep it would not wake up from sleep.
I took it to the Apple store and they found nothing wrong with it. Now when I try to put the computer to sleep it restarts. I thought maybe I had just pressed the restart rather than sleep mode by mistake but when I attempted to put it to sleep a second time it restarted just like before.
It's a bizarre problem I know but I'm wondering if you have any ideas as Apple says if they can't get the computer to recreate the error they won't do anything to fix it

Do you have any USB devices connected (other than keyboard and mouse)? If the display has an USB cable, disconnect that too.

  • Feature Request:  Standard Keyboard Navigation in Media Browser and Project Panel

It's been a while since I've had time to submit a feature request.  I've wanted to see this one for a while.  If you agree, please submit your own feature request here: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish/
System Navigational Keyboard Shortcuts in Media Browser and Project Panel
Windows (and I'm sure Mac) has a standard set of keyboard and mouse navigational shortcuts for keyboard and mouse.  I'm so used to using them in daily browsing (both in Windows Explorer and in any web browser) that missing them in the PPr Media Browser, or getting a different result in the Project Panel, is still very jarring and slows my workflow (even after having used Premiere Pro [again] since version CS4).
I propose that the Media Browser and Project Panel should honor the OS defaults for keyboard and mouse folder/file navigation.  A few of the standard (Windows) keyboard and mouse navigational shortcuts are listed below (listed in order of most helpful to my own work):
    Moust Back Button = "BACK"
ALT + LEFT ARROW = "BACK"
UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT = steps through the various folders within the view.
UP, DOWN walks through the directory tree while RIGHT expands the currently selected folder and LEFT contracts that directory (twirl down, etc).
    ENTER opens a folder.
ALT + UP = "Folder Above"
ALT + RIGHT ARROW = "FORWARD"
    F2 Renames a folder
ENTER "takes" that name to the clip. (current functionality used ENTER to rename a file/folder).
    ESC cancels the renaming operation.
Pressing Enter on any piece of Media or Title, etc should take an "expected" action acording to it's context.  (i.e. ENTER on a video clip would load it inot the Source Monitor.  ENTER on a Title would open it in the Title Editor.  ENTER on a folder would take us into that folder).
These functions exist in both Windows Explorer as well as most modern Web browsers.  When browsing files and Project folders, it's what I've come to expect.  It's muscle memory, if not intuitive.  I realize that many of these keyboard commands are already in use in other windows/panels of the application, therefore, these commands should be Panel-specific (i.e. ALT+LEFT works differently in the Media Browser and Project Panel than it does on the Timeline/Sequence).  And as always, when making such changes (i.e. changing the behavior of ENTER to F2), this set of keys should be highly configurable based on preference:
    Preference:
checkbox:  Use OS-specific navigational keyboard and mouse commands in Media Browser and Project Panel
checkbox:  Use the (very few) "classic" Adobe keyboard commands in the Media Browser and Project Panel
The most common habit I find myself doing in the Media Browser is clicking the BACK button on my mouse—only to realize, yet again, it doesn't work that way in PPr.
The most common habit I find myself doing in the Project Panel is pressing F2 to rename a folder/bin.  Of course that doesn't work.  And when I've renamed it, I press ENTER to save the name, but that only moves me to the next folder ready to rename it, too.  I also find, out of habit, I try to navigate the bins using the arrow keys and then open the bin/folder using ENTER.  Instead, my bin is asking for a new name and I hit ESC to avoid renaming it—now THERE's a shortcut that works the way it should.
I realize this feature may be controversial to some, since it's not the way we're used to doing things in PPr.  However, I'm sure there are just as many out there, like me, who are confounded as to why PPr has never worked with the "conventional" navigation shortcuts found throughout the rest of the operating system, be it Windows or Mac.

    Nice ideas Jeff.

  • Macbook pro (early 2011) takes multiple attempts to wake from sleep and turn on.

I've had a MPB since April 2011 and since I've gotten it I've had this problem. When I want to use the computer, whether from deep sleep or simply turning it on, it sounds like its beginning to turn on but then it makes this clicking noise and stops.
My computer does not wake up from sleep with the press of buttons like it should. I have to press the power button to get any sort of reaction, and as I press the power button multiple times the problem occurs.
It does this multiple times in one setting, varying from once all the way to 10 or 15 times until it actually turns on. The thing is, it ALWAYS turns on eventually. I took it to the Apple Store while it was still in warranty (several times, actually) and they weren't able to find anything wrong. Honestly they thought I was making it up even when I had several people with me agree that they saw the problem happen. I left it at the Apple Store for repair and they did tests, reinstalled the software, but once I took it home the problem still remained. Because they didn't find anything and didn't seem adamant that anything was wrong, I just felt frustrated and left it, since the computer still functions fine otherwise. Now my computer is out of warranty but the problem is becoming more of a pest now that I'm in college. I do everything on it and I'm worried that one day it won't turn on. I took it to the Apple Store again and they told me they couldn't do anything for me now since warranty is out, despite the fact I took it to them expecting good service while it was in warranty and they did absolutely nothing!
I just need some answers. Whether a self fix or from Apple. I feel that Apple should help me solve this problem since they failed to do so before. I'm only 6 months out of warranty, too.
My computer has all the latest firmware and software, running on Lion Mac OS X 10.7.5

    BUMP.
I actually showed this to Apple geniuses when I took my computer to the apple store, and it's still here. In console it says:
    kernel[0]: Previous Shutdown Cause: -128
I don't know if that's related or not, but maybe helps?

  • Audio volume low when computer wakes from sleep - os x yosemite

I've been having an issue ever since I upgraded to OS X Yosemite, where the audio volume coming out of my external speakers is extremely low after I wake my computer up from sleep.  The only resolution I have found is restarting the computer.  Once I do that, the audio volume is great.  If I were to boot up my computer after it has been completely shut down, the audio volume is also great.  The issue only occurs after sleep.  Anyone else having a similar issue?  Is there another fix besides restarting the computer?
Speakers: Bose Companion 2 Series II (these are wired, not bluetooth)
Computer: Mac Pro - late 2013 - running Yosemite

This is a BUG.  It has been submitted to engineering many times - unfortunately Apple has not done anything about it.   We have 5 Mac Pros,  all 5 do the same thing after updating to Yosemite.   The  PRAM / SMC reset is useless -  we even  installed a fresh  OS on one of the machines (a suggestion of the level 2 Apple tech)  same problem.   Clearly this is a system level bug.   Only way to get it resolved is to keep pounding the bug report site with requests.     The squeaky wheel gets the oil.   The problem is 100% repeatable on the machines that exhibit the bug.
In the mean time  set up an applescript with this command and it will reset the sound - do not include the brackets :
<do shell script "sudo killall coreaudiod" with administrator privileges>
Run it every time you wake from sleep and you won't have to deal with the problem ever again.
Pretty lame that Apple has not fixed it even though the problem appears to be pretty widespread.

  • Macbook pro (2009) Freezes when trying to wake from sleep

    Hey guys,
Since the 10.5.8 update my Macbook wont wake from sleep and i have restart it with the power button. The Macbook is totally frozen: the keyboard doesnt respond (caps button light wont go on and etc.) and my external monitor wont come on either.
    What I've tried:
-Install combo update 10.5.8 (i did normal update first time)
-Started up with all the magic keys combos (PRAM and SCM or whatever)
-Tried the fix where you need to (re)enable the ethernet port
    -Set sleephibernate mode to 0
Can anyone help me with this?

  • Keyboard Viewer window opens up after waking from sleep and screensaver

I have the MacBook keyboard freezing problem since upgrading to Leopard. One time (at band camp), I opened the Keyboard viewer so I could enter some text prior to rebooting. Now, the keyboard viewer pops up after every wake from sleep, return from screensaver (both password protected), and sporadically when switching/quitting applications.
I have tried rechecking and unchecking the "keyboard viewer" and "show input menu in menu bar" in System Preferences->International->Input Menu. While not a serious problem, it is rather annoying. How do I get the keyboard viewer to stop opening?
On a related note, there must be a script or program that is run every time the computer wakes from sleep and password protected screensaver that prompts for a password. Anyone know where this is located?
    Peter

Ok, I just tried that. I deleted com.apple.KeyboardViewerServer.plist. I then started my screensaver. When I came back in...the Keyboard Viewer was back and there was a new plist file that was created...so, something else must be controlling it.

  • Abnormal Start-up Screen Appearing after wake from Sleep Restart

I have started to have this problem with my MacbookPro where I will come back and wake try and wake from sleep and nothing. The computer is off or unresponsive. Upon restart I get an abnormal start up screen which looks like this image that I snagged with my camera:
    http://www.creativetantrum.com/screen.jpg
In all my years of using a Mac I have never seen anything like this. And the MBP never gets pass the screen I have to hard restart and it launches into this screen:
    http://www.creativetantrum.com/startup.jpg
and runs through to the login screen.
Previously I have tried resetting the PRAM and SMC(?) as well as running Cocktail on the machine. Those sequences seemed to resolve the issue for at least a day. The only thing I have done that I can think may have caused this is I play a game called "Ouba" that runs in 640 x 480 or some low resolution that the MBP seems to resemble upon restart.
Also upon restart I am given an opportunity to send Apple a message regarding the crash. Here is what it sends:

    Any help would be fantastic.
    Thanks.

the settings are done via Terminal commands or through a widget (i know there is "deepsleep" and i think another)
you should be able to find the terminal command through reading about the different sleep modes, if not try goggling "changing sleep mode on mac" and that should show you. if you cant find it let me know and ill try to dig it back up.
the MBPs are standard with safe sleep, the older lap tops used quick sleep. there is not way to change them through the standard system in a GUI, it has to be done via code (very easy because you can just copy and paste it in)

  • Lion, external monitor, and wake from sleep - please help!

For the most part I love Lion.  However, the changes they made to the external monitor support are not helpful for me.  Let me explain...
I have a 13" 2009 MBP.  In my office I use a monitor stand that the laptop can slide into from either the left or the right, and the monitor sits on top.  Previously I would simply take my closed MBP in sleep mode, slide it under the stand, and plug everything in.  Once the power cord and monitor cable were plugged in, as soon as I inserted something into the USB or SD-Card slot (or I think even the ethernet jack) the laptop would wake from sleep and the monitor would come on.
Now, however, this doesn't happen.  My only option is to plug everything in, open the laptop so it wakes up, then close the lid, then slide it into the stand.  This is definitely NOT an improvement!  Before I had my phone at the left of the monitor stand, and would slide the laptop in from the right.  Now, though, I have no choice but to slide it in from the left (after going through the above hassel), which means I had to move the phone off of my desk.
The energy saving preferences have the "wake on network access" box checked, which would make me think that it would wake up as soon as the ethernet cord is plugged in - but no such luck.  I also have wireless in the office, but it's hard for it to recognize that when it's in sleep mode.
Has anyone else had this problem?  Is there a solution I'm missing here?  I'm using a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse, so of course those won't do anything while the computer is asleep.

I'm beginning to hate Lion because of this one problem. It's great that Lion doesn't sleep when you close the laptop with external monitor connected. But I can no longer wake the external monitor with USB mouse movement. I have to open and close the lid. This is very inconvenient when switching between two systems with KVM. The MacBook is awake; it just won't wake the monitor.
