Feature Request: itunes iphone-ipod interface

I think the iphone UI is fantastic and I'd like to be able to control itunes in a way that would replicate the iphone's ipod UI on my PC screen. I have a very small 800x600 in case touch screen monitor on my media PC, and it would be awesome if I could get a layered interface with big buttons to work on that screen (I can pull up itunes in that small screen, but its too small to navigate - especially by touch). I've searched and searched all over the web but have not been able to find anything like this. I have heard that it is possible to skin itunes, and I have found alternative skins, but so far the only skins I've found do nothing other than change itunes's color. Likewise, I've searched for various desktop widgets to accomplish this task. All I have been able to find are simple remotes which really can't do anything by way of album/song/playlist navigation.
This seems like a natural feature for itunes, and I can't believe that I'm the only one who would want something like this.

  • Feature Request:  iTunes to merge the "Song Name" & "Artist" fields

This is a feature request that i would like to see in a future release of iTunes. The option to merge the "Song Name" & "Artist" fields together. This would be a very valuable option when surfing your iTunes Library thru your iPod, Front Row, or Apple TV.
    Let me explain:
Not everyone knows at the top of their head who sings a particular song. This is especially true when someone other than the owner of the iTunes Library is browsing through it.
Let's say that I want to browse my ENTIRE music collection all at once. The easiest way to do this, is by browsing thru the "Songs" list because it creates 1 massive list displaying ALL the songs in the library, without having to jump into different fields. The current problem with this, is, it only lists the name of the song. There are 2 problems with this philosophy. #1 - You must know who sings the songs to have any chance of making this a useful option because the artist is not displayed. #2 - It puts them in alphabetical based on the song name. Once again, not a very useful way to make this option really functional because you will have the Artists all over the map! Keeping the Artist's songs together makes it a much more feasable option.
The solution, I feel, would be to have iTunes create an "Option" that would allow users like me to make iTunes merge the "Artist" & "Name" fields together. Make it an option so that users who do not see the benefit to this, would not have to use it. By doing this, I could now surf my ENTIRE collection via the "Songs" field in a very logical approach.
For an example, let's take a song: Artist - "Def Leppard" & Song Name - "Pour Some Sugar On Me". By clicking this option, when browsing thru the "Songs" field, it would now display as: Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me. This allows me to browse my ENTIRE library while at the same time, keeping "like" songs together, and making it very easy to distinguish whether or not it is a song I want to select. By knowing that Def Leppard is a Rock Artist, it helps to distinguish the song.
I work for a custom AV integration shop that has put hundreds of music servers into homes. We have been teaching our clients the benefits of this for some time now, with great feedback. The only problem presently, is it requires the users to have to re-edit every single file by putting the Artist's Name & the Song Title into the "Name" field of iTunes. Very time consuming! As well, because you also have the "Artists" name entered in the "Artist" field, you get Front Row displaying the "Artist" name twice, once in the song name, and once in the artist's field.
    Any feedback would be welcomed.
    Regards,
    Trevor

You might be able to get where you want using Chaotic Software's MediaRage. It can automate and batch tag editing, including building a Title tag that combines Artist and Title and, to possibly address you other problem, blanking the Artist tag.
MediaRage is not expensive and it is very powerful, you can even define regexs for how to parse tags.

  • Feature Request for iphone - how to improve your battery life

I have talked to few Apple support guys and I want to see if others have the same problem I have and support this feature request.
Your iPhone battery can get drained very fast if you are in an area where there is no AT&T Signal. This is not unusual as other phone have same problems. With my other phones such as my old Treo, I simply put it on Airplane mode.
But with the iPhone I can use WAP and I can get great WAP signals during the day.
The problem I noticed is that even if I have good WAP signal, if there is no AT&T signal it drains my battery, sometimes so bad that I could fully discharge in a day where as with same usage in other areas I would have only used about 30% or so...
So I would like to see Apple put in an option to be able to disable AT&T but keep the WAP service enabled, so this is just like Airplane mode with WAP still on.
I have tested by having my iphone running in WAP mode and when not in use I put it in Airplane mode, then try this again with exact usage another day but not put it in Airplane mode when not in use and I can see big difference.
The test was done in my building where there is NO AT&T signal.
Help me AAPL, I am a big investor and have all your products, bought my iPhone on 6/29 after waiting in line for 3.5 hours. You recently added disable Roaming option for Edge, that is a great option, now add this option so we can extend our battery usage!!!!!!
    Thanks!!!!!!

  • Feature Request: iTunes support CD drive letters A&B

Not sure how to submit this feature request to Apple for iTunes for Windows enhancement so I figured I would start at the forum.
I know in the "dark ages" drive letters A&B where pretty much reserved for floppy drives. Not sure how many computers are actually still in use running Windows XP and up that still have one of those drives.
Therefore, for some time now these two drive letters have gone unused. C: in general was the first HD letter, and CD-Roms (or now DVD/Blu-Ray) drives started somewhere with D: and above depending on your computer configuration.
I changed my setup a while ago and named my two DVD drives A & B since Windows supports it just fine, as do a lot of other programs, with the exception of iTunes :-(. For some reason, iTunes will not support reading CDs from drives A or B, even if Windows autorun feature is enabled asking if it should import the CD into iTunes. Apple, what's up with that? Why actual restrict reading music from CD drives assigned letters A & B? Is this an old piece of code still lingering around in iTunes?
So, simple feature request for an upcoming iTunes release, please enable reading/important CD music from drives labeled A&B so that we can start using these letters again as well.
Anybody else want to support this simple request that should be fairly easy for Apple to implement?

We're a user-to-user community, so there's no guarantee that an Apple person will see your request. But you can make enhancement requests directly to the Apple folks if you like. Here's a link to the iTunes product feedback form:

  • Dvd-itunes-iphone/ipod

anyone know how to import a dvd to itunes to then put on iphone/ipod

*Why is it okay to copy your CDs onto your computer then? Same thing, right?*
Not the same thing. Most CDs have no copy protection on them (though the record companies have tried it out from time to time and there are a few copy protected CDs still around).
DVDs are copy protected and it's illegal to break the copy protection on them. I don't know what country you are in but if you are in the US you'll have seen the FBI warnings at the beginning of the discs and other countries have similar warnings so I can't understand your surprise.
*All those episodes of The Wire and Deadwood that I planned to load onto my MacBook Pro so I could watch them whenever I wanted AND watch on my iPod Touch as well - that's not possible??*
I didn't say it wasn't possible, I said it's not legal which is a different thing. Unless the disc comes with an official digital copy for use on computers/iPods etc. then getting the movie off the disc and onto your computer involves breaking the encryption. Breaking the encryption as I've pointed out, is illegal.

  • Feature request Itunes/Ipod:

Allow users to plug in a friends iPod to your computer, have your iTunes library recognize content not in your library but available on iTunes and allow the user to purchase that content either in bulk or individually. I have friends who have content I want to purchase on their Ipods but trying to determine each song/video on an individual basis w/out the Itunes interface is impossible. I have several friends with large libraries that I would purchase in entirety if I could just plug in and be given the option.

  • Feature request - Organize iPhone screen layout in iTunes Apps window...

As much as I love the jiggly icons and ability to lay out things as I like on my iPhone, I would like to see them all in my iTunes App window, and drag and drop them in that window instead. It would be faster and easier to organize things in the App window, and of course, adjust things a little on the road with the current method on the phone.

  • Itunes/Iphone/Ipod device driver issues - tried everything. Still not working.

After hours and hours of research, I'm completely stuck. Here's the basic problem.
When I plug in my Iphone to my laptop, windows pulls up a little window that says installing device driver software. After several minutes, the process fails and a message comes up that says windows found drivers for my device, but encountered an error and wasn't able to install them. In the device manager, the iphone is listed as an "other device" with a yellow triangle/exclamation point. Itunes never recognizes the device.
When I plug in my ipod nano 4th generation, the exact same thing happens, except it's listed in the device manager as an ipod. (same yellow triangle though.)
Up until today, both of these devices have been working properly, syncing without trouble. The iphone synced wirelessly and the ipod every time I plugged it in. I can't figure out what on earth happened to my laptop today that messed things up.
It's also worth noting that I have another older ipod nano... second generation, I think, that plugs in and is recognized immediately, works perfectly.
Here is what I've done so far:
    1. I worked through every single troubleshooting guide that Apple has to offer. No change.
    2. I did a complete clean install of itunes and all additional components, rebooted and reinstalled. No change.
    3. I uninstalled/re-installed usb controllers in the device manager. No change.
    4. reset both the phone and the ipod. No change.
    5. I've tried various cables. No change.
    6. I've run system checks and repair utilities for windows vista.
    7. I've used selective start up to see if another program is interfering. I've stood on my head and counted to one hundred. I've only said seventeen swear words.
At this point I've done so much searching and troubleshooting, I can't imagine how anything is going to fix this issue. So this is my last hope. Please oh please be smart enough to tell me what to do...

Not sure if this is significant, but in a weird turn of events, when I tried plugging the ipod in this morning, the little message that pops up to install device driver software actually told me the drivers were installed successfully. However, in the device manager, it still says the drivers are NOT installed properly, the little yellow triangle is still there and the ipod still isn't registering in itunes, or my computer. So. Not really any improvement, but a different symptom none the less?
    I'm desperate, guys. Someone help?

  • ITunes - iPhone iTouch Interface

I have a touch screen monitor. (They are getting more and more prevalent) I want an option in iTunes to turn iTunes' interface into a touch screen mode similar to the iPhone and the iTouch screens. Flip through album covers with a swipe of your hand. Touch and Album Cover and have it flip over so I can select certain songs. Is this of ANY interest to anyone else?

That would most likely be an OS level task, not at the application level.

  • Feature request on iphone and ipad

    Hi
I use to work with 3d models and I'm wondering if the interactive 3d tool that is already available for PC will be available on iphone and ipad, it will be very useful to me to show my clients all my products on 3d.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi whagemann,
We do support viewing of 3d models from Adobe Reader using apps like Hoops Viewer. You just need to install Hoops Viewer https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hoops-viewer/id457991468?mt=8 on your device and then you can do a "Open In" by selecting the 3d model in the PDF in Adobe Reader, which will provide you an option to view that model.

  • ITunes / iPhone / iPod / iPad / iOS 5 How do I put Various Artists under One Single Album?

Hello, I recently purchased the entire collection of Now that's that I call music.
It's a compilation album of various artists.
All the various tracks have their own respective artists under the same album name - Now That's what I Call Music.
I sync this collection to my iPhone 4, with iOS 5 and go to my phone's Music>Albums.
Here it shows me multiple times the same album, with the same name - now that's what I call music. Each with a different artist.
I want all these various artists to be under One Single Album. And not the same albums album being shown multiple times for each artist.
Really appreciate if someone could help me out.
    Regards,
    Jay Parte.

If you have 7.1, you should see the Shuffle option once you select a genre (scroll up, above the list of artists).

  • Feature request, link contact to appointment, including mapping

    Feature request for iPhone.
    1. Ability to link a contact to an appointment.
I would like to be able to go to the calendar, and have a button that associates a contact with a scheduled appointment.
the goal is to be able to have the iPhone type the contact name into an appointment, and to have the map to their address, as well as their phone number, available from the appointment screen.
I do not like having to type in an appointment with the mechanic, and then when I need a map I have to go into the phone book and scroll to the entry.
I do like very much the new search feature on FW 2.0. I already have that feature on 1.1.4, using the program called Search downloaded from Installer.
But it would be much cleaner user interface if simply touching the appointment text field one could access the contact that is scheduled in that appointment.
for example, say on Friday at 1pm Im supposed to take my car to my mechanic. Go to calendar, touch the text entry field, click a new button that adds the contact name to the appointment field. Then save.
Then implement a button on the text field in the calendar, that when touched links to the contact, including their address info so it can be mapped.
In summary, the feature allows a user to paste a contact name into an appointment, and then use the contact name in the appointment to link back to the phone book, so I can use the mapping feature.
    I hope that makes sense.
    Jonathan

  • Feature request for iTunes: Rating from iPod to Library.

I'm not able to send feature requests via the 'Provide iTunes feedback'. So I'm posting here. I use my iPod more often to listen to music than my computer. I don't have time to sit at my machine and rate files. But My commute is an hour so I've got a LOT of time on the train & bus to rate my songs as I listen to them. However when I plug in my iPod to update it, etc. the ratings on my iPod stay there and my songs in my library stay unrated.
I'd like for there to be an option for this. To be able to transfer song ratings from my iPod to my iTunes library.
    Many thanks for the music.

Please teach me how to use this feature because it doesn't work for me. Even after restoring my iPod. Please note, I'm using an iPod Nano and I manually control my library & iPod. There is no syncing of playlists nor libraries.

  • Feature Request For Next iTunes/iPod Update - Useful For Many

Hi, I have always wanted a feature for iTunes like this:
I want there to be "pocket" playlists - playlists for songs that I (and others) wouldn't normally listen to, but have in my library just for the heck of it, i.e. prank calls, music my parents requested, songs put there as a joke for my friends, etc. However, when I want to play my whole library (like in shuffle mode), I don't want those songs to play. I ONLY want them to play when I choose the special "pocket" playlist for these type of songs.
The only way I can see of to do it now is to make two playlists - one for these pocket songs, and another one for all the rest of the songs. But, I find it a HUGE hassle to move every song I like to the "Normal" playlist - I love music and download a lot all the time, so I quickly lose track of which ones I added or not.
Is this something that someone else will want in a future release?
    Please give me your feedback.
    Thanks!

One way to achieve what you want is to set these tracks to a new genre that you create - something like "joke" or anything else that you can clearly identify. Then create two new smart playlists, one setting "genre is <yourgenre>" and one setting "genre is not <yourgenre>". You could do the same thing with the Grouping category if you don't want to change the genre on those rarely-to-be-played tracks.
Then you don't have to worry about moving tracks to a playlist and hoping you won't miss any; all you'll have to worry about is labeling your "rarely play" tracks with the genre you've created.
Otherwise, the iTunes engineers would have to add the ability to create a playlist that could play tracks even if they were unchecked. Then you could uncheck the tracks from the main library and still have them play. You can suggest this to Apple through the iTunes feedback page (we're all just fellow users here so suggestions aren't likely to get to the proper folks within Apple).

  • Blind Song Changing in iPhone/iPod touch request

I like the way Apple creates its products. Each modern Apple gadget is simple, qualitative, reliable and complete, polished. But sometimes I got a feeling that when Apple engineers find a good way to solve a task they allowing themselves to forget that this way is not the only possible one. Maybe I wrong. I hope so.
Right now I’m talking about one exact feature – a blind song changing. This feature is usable when you prefer to keep your iPod in pocket. And to keep different music in your iPod. You’re tired of rock and right now you want a jazz song, just one.
As far as I know currently there are two ways to change songs in iPod touch or iPhone (if you are not using external controller). A first one – Shaking feature, which you will mostly like to disable if you’re keeping your iPod touch in trouser’s pocket because Shaking will sometimes occasionally switch a song. A second one – thru the touch interface. Which is almost impossible if you’re not looking at the display.
I would be more than happy to see a blind song changing feature in next iOS update. And I have my personal idea how it may be fulfilled. In “Setting” -> “General” there are options to determine iPod behavior when you press a Home (physical) button. Below “Home”, “Search” and “IPod” options Apple could place more options for iPod behavior while device is LOCKED. And there they could place an option to switch a song. It may react to double press. Or to long press. Or behavior by any different way Apple engineers would find possible. Also that’s how they would be able to keep things as they are for those users who don’t need to change anything.
I would like Apple engineers to see this topic. To know about the feature I and other consumers with demands similar to me need. Probably if this topic will get enough responses, Apple will fulfill a request and make iPod touch and iPhone even better. So I ask anyone who understand my position to answer anything to keep the topic up.
    Thank you.
    Regards, Ilya

Have you investigated using Voice Control to control music playback? Voice commands can be used rather than touching the screen. This feature is available on the iPod Touch 3 Gen and 4 Gen (current).
