Feature request Itunes/Ipod:

Allow users to plug in a friends iPod to your computer, have your iTunes library recognize content not in your library but available on iTunes and allow the user to purchase that content either in bulk or individually. I have friends who have content I want to purchase on their Ipods but trying to determine each song/video on an individual basis w/out the Itunes interface is impossible. I have several friends with large libraries that I would purchase in entirety if I could just plug in and be given the option.

We are all itunes users just like you.

  • Feature Request: itunes iphone-ipod interface

I think the iphone UI is fantastic and I'd like to be able to control itunes in a way that would replicate the iphone's ipod UI on my PC screen. I have a very small 800x600 in case touch screen monitor on my media PC, and it would be awesome if I could get a layered interface with big buttons to work on that screen (I can pull up itunes in that small screen, but its too small to navigate - especially by touch). I've searched and searched all over the web but have not been able to find anything like this. I have heard that it is possible to skin itunes, and I have found alternative skins, but so far the only skins I've found do nothing other than change itunes's color. Likewise, I've searched for various desktop widgets to accomplish this task. All I have been able to find are simple remotes which really can't do anything by way of album/song/playlist navigation.
This seems like a natural feature for itunes, and I can't believe that I'm the only one who would want something like this.

Click here and fill out the form.

  • Feature Request:  iTunes to merge the "Song Name" & "Artist" fields

This is a feature request that i would like to see in a future release of iTunes. The option to merge the "Song Name" & "Artist" fields together. This would be a very valuable option when surfing your iTunes Library thru your iPod, Front Row, or Apple TV.
    Let me explain:
Not everyone knows at the top of their head who sings a particular song. This is especially true when someone other than the owner of the iTunes Library is browsing through it.
Let's say that I want to browse my ENTIRE music collection all at once. The easiest way to do this, is by browsing thru the "Songs" list because it creates 1 massive list displaying ALL the songs in the library, without having to jump into different fields. The current problem with this, is, it only lists the name of the song. There are 2 problems with this philosophy. #1 - You must know who sings the songs to have any chance of making this a useful option because the artist is not displayed. #2 - It puts them in alphabetical based on the song name. Once again, not a very useful way to make this option really functional because you will have the Artists all over the map! Keeping the Artist's songs together makes it a much more feasable option.
The solution, I feel, would be to have iTunes create an "Option" that would allow users like me to make iTunes merge the "Artist" & "Name" fields together. Make it an option so that users who do not see the benefit to this, would not have to use it. By doing this, I could now surf my ENTIRE collection via the "Songs" field in a very logical approach.
For an example, let's take a song: Artist - "Def Leppard" & Song Name - "Pour Some Sugar On Me". By clicking this option, when browsing thru the "Songs" field, it would now display as: Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me. This allows me to browse my ENTIRE library while at the same time, keeping "like" songs together, and making it very easy to distinguish whether or not it is a song I want to select. By knowing that Def Leppard is a Rock Artist, it helps to distinguish the song.
I work for a custom AV integration shop that has put hundreds of music servers into homes. We have been teaching our clients the benefits of this for some time now, with great feedback. The only problem presently, is it requires the users to have to re-edit every single file by putting the Artist's Name & the Song Title into the "Name" field of iTunes. Very time consuming! As well, because you also have the "Artists" name entered in the "Artist" field, you get Front Row displaying the "Artist" name twice, once in the song name, and once in the artist's field.
    Any feedback would be welcomed.
    Regards,
    Trevor

You might be able to get where you want using Chaotic Software's MediaRage. It can automate and batch tag editing, including building a Title tag that combines Artist and Title and, to possibly address you other problem, blanking the Artist tag.
MediaRage is not expensive and it is very powerful, you can even define regexs for how to parse tags.

  • Feature Request: iTunes support CD drive letters A&B

Not sure how to submit this feature request to Apple for iTunes for Windows enhancement so I figured I would start at the forum.
I know in the "dark ages" drive letters A&B where pretty much reserved for floppy drives. Not sure how many computers are actually still in use running Windows XP and up that still have one of those drives.
Therefore, for some time now these two drive letters have gone unused. C: in general was the first HD letter, and CD-Roms (or now DVD/Blu-Ray) drives started somewhere with D: and above depending on your computer configuration.
I changed my setup a while ago and named my two DVD drives A & B since Windows supports it just fine, as do a lot of other programs, with the exception of iTunes :-(. For some reason, iTunes will not support reading CDs from drives A or B, even if Windows autorun feature is enabled asking if it should import the CD into iTunes. Apple, what's up with that? Why actual restrict reading music from CD drives assigned letters A & B? Is this an old piece of code still lingering around in iTunes?
So, simple feature request for an upcoming iTunes release, please enable reading/important CD music from drives labeled A&B so that we can start using these letters again as well.
Anybody else want to support this simple request that should be fairly easy for Apple to implement?

We're a user-to-user community, so there's no guarantee that an Apple person will see your request. But you can make enhancement requests directly to the Apple folks if you like. Here's a link to the iTunes product feedback form:

  • Feature request for iTunes: Rating from iPod to Library.

I'm not able to send feature requests via the 'Provide iTunes feedback'. So I'm posting here. I use my iPod more often to listen to music than my computer. I don't have time to sit at my machine and rate files. But My commute is an hour so I've got a LOT of time on the train & bus to rate my songs as I listen to them. However when I plug in my iPod to update it, etc. the ratings on my iPod stay there and my songs in my library stay unrated.
I'd like for there to be an option for this. To be able to transfer song ratings from my iPod to my iTunes library.
    Many thanks for the music.

Please teach me how to use this feature because it doesn't work for me. Even after restoring my iPod. Please note, I'm using an iPod Nano and I manually control my library & iPod. There is no syncing of playlists nor libraries.

  • Feature Request For Next iTunes/iPod Update - Useful For Many

Hi, I have always wanted a feature for iTunes like this:
I want there to be "pocket" playlists - playlists for songs that I (and others) wouldn't normally listen to, but have in my library just for the heck of it, i.e. prank calls, music my parents requested, songs put there as a joke for my friends, etc. However, when I want to play my whole library (like in shuffle mode), I don't want those songs to play. I ONLY want them to play when I choose the special "pocket" playlist for these type of songs.
The only way I can see of to do it now is to make two playlists - one for these pocket songs, and another one for all the rest of the songs. But, I find it a HUGE hassle to move every song I like to the "Normal" playlist - I love music and download a lot all the time, so I quickly lose track of which ones I added or not.
Is this something that someone else will want in a future release?
    Please give me your feedback.
    Thanks!

One way to achieve what you want is to set these tracks to a new genre that you create - something like "joke" or anything else that you can clearly identify. Then create two new smart playlists, one setting "genre is <yourgenre>" and one setting "genre is not <yourgenre>". You could do the same thing with the Grouping category if you don't want to change the genre on those rarely-to-be-played tracks.
Then you don't have to worry about moving tracks to a playlist and hoping you won't miss any; all you'll have to worry about is labeling your "rarely play" tracks with the genre you've created.
Otherwise, the iTunes engineers would have to add the ability to create a playlist that could play tracks even if they were unchecked. Then you could uncheck the tracks from the main library and still have them play. You can suggest this to Apple through the iTunes feedback page (we're all just fellow users here so suggestions aren't likely to get to the proper folks within Apple).

  • I Ipod class wont play TED and other video podcasts.  The genious bar could not figure out the problem.  This problem is not isolated to a single computer.  Secondly, the convert to ipod version feature in Itunes does not resolve the problem.

My Ipod classic wont play TED, The Grid, Techzilla and other video podcasts (but not all video podcasts).  The genious bar could not figure out the problem. Instead, the Apple store gave me credit towards a new classic, which produced the same problem.  This problem is not isolated to a single computer.  Secondly, the convert to ipod version feature in Itunes does not resolve the problem.  Lastly, I tried restoring the ipod to no avail.  I've heard this is a video codec problem.

  • ITunes Feature Request: Shared Library Enhancements

I didn't see a section of the forum specific to feature requests so I'll just post here and see what kind of feedback pops up.
I use iTunes to manage the music library for my home network, then share the library to each system on the network. The only gripe I have is that I can not make my local systems load the artwork from music in the shared library. I am also a bit dissapointed that the "jukebox" view doesn't work for shared libraries, and that you can't make a playlist containing songs on a shared library.
I'm assuming these features were left out to conserve network bandwidth, which makes sense, however I think it should be an optional feature that that can be enabled for people with the hardware to support it. If you're running a gigabit home network then there is certainly enough bandwidth to spare to support this.
I'm a windows user and will always be, however I'm very impressed with iTunes and how efficiently it operates and handles tagging and other features. I just think that the shared library capabilities should be expanded. It'd even be nice if you could grant permission to a specific computer name or IP range giving systems permission to edit the library. Remote Desktop/VNC solutions work well for this, but it'd be nice to have an internal feature to support it.

  • Feature Request - Import ITunes m4p into Track

Would like a feature that allowed moving an entire ITunes song into a GB track.
    933 MHz PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

That's not likely to be a feature you'll ever see B-(>
(BTW, Apple doesn't read these forums, so the GB team won't see a feature request posted here)

  • ITunes Feature Request

I can't seem to find whether there is a official Apple web form to submit feedback/feature requests for iTunes. Does anyone know the URL for this?
Also, here is my feature request...
In order to access shared iTunes libraries over the LAN, the sharer must have iTunes open for me to access their content. I have a strong desire for Apple to enable this type of sharing to occur without the sharer needing to open iTunes. For instance, if I'm sitting on my couch with my laptop and I want to play music streamed from my shared iTunes library on my desktop in my home office, I would like to do this regardless of whether the desktop has iTunes open or not. This is also a huge issue with streaming content to the Apple TV. The Apple TV can only access shared libraries if the sharer has iTunes open and running.
Does anyone know of third party software that accomplishes continuous sharing/broadcasting of your iTunes library over the LAN? I've never heard of such a thing and would like to suggest it to Apple. In the Windows world, I'm envisioning something running in the taskbar. I don't really know about the Mac OS X world, but I do know that directories are shared in Finder between Macs regardless of whether or not something is "open". It should be just as simple to ALWAYS be able to access shared iTunes libraries.
Lastly, just out of curiosity, I'd be interested to hear if anyone feels like there would be significant technical hurdles that would make this very hard to achieve.
    Thanks,
    Aaron

  • FEATURE REQUEST: Sticky editing of feed info

I love iTunes 6 on Windows as pod-catching software. It's great. But a minor feature request.... (since I don't see anywhere else on Apple.Com for iTunes feature requests, I'm posting it here).
Most podcast authors seem to do a lousy job of creating intuitive feed metadata information (Artist, Description). And since podcasts seem to be sorted by default on my iPod by Music > Podcasts > [ARTIST FIELD], I always edit the Artist Field in iTunes before I sync with my iPod. I do this by selecting all items in a feed group, right clicking, choosing Get Info, and editing the Artist field to something short which makes sense to me.
However, this edit isn't sticky. When new items in a feed are downloaded to iTunes, they have the original Artist field. So I have to edit this a lot.
What I'd like is to be able to edit the Info of the feed once in iTunes. Then, every time a new item is downloaded to that feed in iTunes, I'd like iTunes to go ahead and edit that item's info to match my sticky feed setting. This way, I only need to edit the info once when I add a new feed, and each item subsequently downloaded will inherit those settings.
Make sense? A "power user" feauture, I'm sure. But it'd be nice....
Dell Dimension Windows XP iTunes 6, 20GB iPod
    Dell Dimension   Windows XP

Can't be done currently. Interesting idea, though.
However, I've found that podcast creators tend to be pretty responsive to criticisms along these lines. I've had this same problem with some podcasts, and after I mentioned it to them, they started tagging their podcasts appropriately. Some of them even started adding "album art" after I explained how it would show up on newer iPod's when playing the track, if the iPod user uses iTunes.
I'd email the podcast author and let them know what's up. This is generally a better long term solution anyway, as it helps everybody.

  • Can I change iTunes & iPod display font (not font size) for selected files only?

I loaded a Russian classical music CD into iTunes and iPod. On the original CD, titles, names etc. are written in cyrillic alphabet.  Once I loaded the CD into iTunes and on iPod this info was displayed unreadably in western alphabet.  Example:  "Èæå õåðóâèìû..." (Í. Ãîëîâàíîâ)Õîð È.
I have cyrillic font on my Windows 7 computer.  Can I change the display font--for only these selected iTunes music files--to the cyrillic font?  Thanks!

Does any one know how you can adjust the font size (point size) for the file
    names.
Sadly enough you can't chance that, feel free to add a feature request for
that, the more there ask for the bigger chance it will be realized.
It would be great if the colors for the image name (background and font color)
could be changed so the contrast could also be increased so it is also easier
    to read.
And this the cheerful part, go to Bridge preferences General tap and play
with the sliders for user interface and Image Backdrop until your satisfied.
BTW using the slider for thumbnail size bottom right of the Bridge window to
increase the thumbs does not increase the font but makes it nevertheless a
    little clearer.

  • Suggesting features for iTunes

I'll start this post by telling readers a little about my computing background. I used to be a PC nerd who hated Macs and would never consider buying one. iTunes came out, I gave it a try to prove to myself that Apple made crappy software. To my surprise, it was great, and I completely switched to it from years of Winamp addiction. I still didn't like Macs though.
Enter OSX and the PowerBook. 10 minutes of playing with my friend's new PB caused me to buy one, and I've loved every minute of using my PB since the day I opened its box. So now I am a Mac and PC nerd.
The reason for this post is that I would like to suggest 2 features for iTunes. They are both pretty obvious to me, but version after version comes out, without these features.
    Here they are:
CD-TEXT. Why the **** would you release a program in the year 2006, that burns audio CD's but does not write CD-TEXT? Seriously. WHY?
The other feature: an easy way to update the library on the Windows version. On the Mac, iTunes seems to somehow know when you move your music files (maybe even delete them, haven't noticed), and it updates your library automatically. This is awesome, and the fact that no such feature is included in the Windows version kills me. I have thousands of songs on my Windows machine. I download tons of music (legally of course), and every time that I go to add music to my library, I have to think twice about where I place the files. I like to keep a very organized music directory, and I don't want iTunes doing it for me either. I just want a button that scans for missing files and deletes them from the library, then scans the iTunes music folder for new songs and adds them.
With these 2 features, iTunes couldn't get any better.
Screw all the video features, podcasts, etc. Who cares? Music is what I (and most people in general) use the program for, and the fact that it can even function with the amount of songs I have in my library amazes me and tells me its meant to work with such a quantity of files.
So why not add such vital features? Come on Apple!! Microsoft does suck, but you gotta pick up the slack to stay as far ahead of them as you have been ever since the release of OSX!
By the way, is there anywhere on this site that I could officially suggest these features? I looked but could not find such a page.
PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.6) I also use a decently fast Windows box.
    PowerBook G4

    hi Jeffery!
By the way, is there anywhere on this site that I could officially suggest these features? I looked but could not find such a page.
although there isn't a dedicated enhancement request channel for itunes, there is one for the ipod. since itunes is the only supported software for getting music onto an ipod, i figure that's a worthy place to make itunes enhancement requests:

  • Feature requests

I'd like to submit some feature requests and complaints I've had with both the desktop and mobile apps.
    1. Larger "add to queue" buttons for mobile- I always end up accidentally playing the track when I try to add it to the queue. This is extremely annoying because it stops the current song, and there is no way to easily go back to it.
    2. Ability to jump to alphabetized artist in "your music" by typing the letters of their name like on iTunes, or some filter/search method. I have lots of artists and songs in that section, and it's incredibly annoying to have to spend so much time scrolling just to get to "z"
    3. Always go back to specific location in scroll when hit "back" button.
    4. Easy ability to remove item from playlist from "current song" screen as it's playing on mobile (and just in general, I couldn't figure out how to remove a song from playlist on mobile)
    5. Ability to make each artist in your music as a small, narrow list element for ease of jumping around (both desktop and mobile)
    6. Side alphabetical thing that you can tap to jump to a letter as in iPod music
    7. Easy explicit versions of tracks. Sometimes a track will even say it's explicit but will be edited to have cuss words removed. This is ridiculous

    Updated: 2015-07-27Hello there!
Thanks for the feedback, as mentioned, unfortunately we can only handle 1 feature request per topic, otherwise it's impossible to manage the received kudos / give the idea a proper status.
If you want to start a general feedback topic, that's great! But please use the respective help forum then. ;)
When you're re-posting those ideas in separate topics, please make sure to use the search function, since a lot of ideas might already be out there in the ideas forum. Thanks again!

  • Where to put feature requests?

    Hi!
Just wanna ask if somebody knows where I can send my feature requests für iTunes. It is simply anoying when told that a file can't be found in the location where the library was told a file is saved. When I wanna see where it iTunes is looking for the file, I only see: "nicht verfügbar" (in English: "not available").
Or is there an other way to see the last known location of the file?
