Feature request: read my books on my macbook too

The MacBook is my best environment for taking notes.

Why are you posting this in the 10.4 forum, if you have 10.7.3?  Regardless, if you want this feature, you really should be posting to http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Many have wanted iBooks to be released for Mac OS X, and thus far they haven't been.  There are many other eBook formats that have.  Also contact your favorite author/publishers if they haven't released the book in your most capable eBook reader for your use.  They may not realize they are missing out on customers. I'll ask a moderator move this to the 10.7 forum, so others can suggest eBook readers that work with your operating system.  You can also check http://roaringapps.com/apps:table for the latest 10.7 compatible applications, and submit your own reports on good 10.7 applications, and those that don't work with 10.7 so others can benefit from your findings.

  • I am confused about something.  How do I read a book on my MacBook Pro?  I can't find the iBook app anywhere, which is what I use on my iPad.  The book I want to read is in my iTunes but I can't click on it.  My iBook library does not show up in iTunes.

I am confused about something.  How do I read a book on my MacBook Pro?  I can't find the iBook app anywhere, which is what I use on my iPad.  The book I want to read is in my iTunes but I can't click on it.  Some of my iBooks show up in my iTunes but they are "grayed" out.  The only books that respond in iTunes are audiobooks and that's not what I'm looking for.  Is this a stupid question?

Nevermind - I answered my own question, which is I CAN"T READ ANY BOOKS I purchased in iBooks on my MacBook Pro.  If I want to read on my mac I have to use Kindle or Nook.  Which means any book I've already purchased through iBooks has to be read on my iPad.  Kind of a drag because there are times when it's more convenient for me to read while I'm sitting with my Mac.

  • How do i read a book on my macbook pro?

I'm having difficulty reading books on my MacBook Pro.  I can read them on my iPad with no problem and I can't figure out how to read them on the MBP

What's the source, and/or what format are they in?
Some sources offer Mac client software (check their websites or the App Store), and for some formats there are converters available (google for them).

  • I have iBooks on my phone. Can I read those books on my MacBook Pro too?

I have diwnloaded several books on my iPhone 4s. I would like to read them on my MacBook Pro. Is there a way I can do that through iCloud or something?

The iOS-Version you have bought can be installed for free that is correcty - to all your idevices ( iPod,iPhone.. )
That is because they share the same processor ( ARM in iOS vs Intel in Mac's )  , Operating System and support these mini apps.
Mac OS X can not execute iOS apps and vice versa an iDevice can not execute Macintosh apps.
So you would need to purchase  this OS X version : http://itunes.apple.com/de/app/pages/id409201541?mt=12
The Documents created with either pages version, no matter if iOS or OSX can be cross-exchanged , synced and edited  ( else it would'nt make sense ).

  • I can't read a book on my Macbook Pro..

Im just wondering if someone can help me!!
I brought a book off iTunes and i don't know how to read it?

If you buy books on iBooks, they will be in the EPUB format. You can’t put these files on your Kindle, but you can convert them to MOBI, which you can. To do that, you can use something like Calibre.

  • Can I read e-books on my MacBook Pro

I have seen the neat new iPads and other competing products e.g. Motorola Xoom etc.  I love my MacBookPro...is there an app for my MacBook Pro that I can use for an ebook?

I have Stanza and Kindle apps on my MacBook Pro, and those plus iBooks on my iPhone.  Between them they cover most of the bases.

  • Feature request for  Address Book: add possibility to Skype name

I had "misused" the IM fields to store Skype telephone names, but the disadvantage is that they show up in iChat. I have tried to add them to the telephone fields (which is more correct), but that works only for those names which have alphanumeric charactes. As soon as you have for instance dots in that name, this does not work (on Mac OS X you are not able to make a skype named field via other, and syncing via MobileMe to the iPhone leaves out the dots and no way to edit them in).
Skype is becoming more and more mainstream and I think that adding this functionality would be good on both Mac OS X as well as iPhone.

  • Feature Request: Make iBooks' dictionary accessible in Safari too

Make it possible to tap a word on a Web page opened inside Safari and then select dictionary to lookup its meaning.

This is a feature to implement in the future, please communicate that through the feedback channel:

  • Feature Request: Reopen PDF at last open page

    1...........................
At work, I often have to deal with PDF files (of several hundred pages each) and have to keep shifting from one PDF to another. If I leave a PDF file on page 372, open another file, and return to the first file, I am sent to page 1. Why on Earth do I have to find my position in the PDF file manually each time I return to the PDF?
Please make Adobe Reader remember our last view settings (page position and Continuous/SinglePage mode) for every file. Please consider this as an urgent feature request, which I believe shouldn't take too long to provide, considering that this feature has been available on the desktop versions for ages.
And could you please give us an estimate of when this feature might be included?
    2.........................
In addition to the current List View of documents, a thumbnail view would be a huge bonus, specially when trying to pinpoint a particular file from a series of similarly named files (eg. 01.pdf, 02.pdf, 03.pdf....).

I too would absolutely love to have this feature! Our views match perfectly!! I too have to deal with many files which often have 300-400 pages and then finding my way back in them can get really tedious.
You can try iBooks if you want as it does have this feature, but I personally prefer the continuous Reading mode that this Adobe Reader app offers! Plus this app is really fast in opening and scrolling through those huge PDFs I have to deal with all the time.
I hope someone is reading this! (you posted in December and still no reply!!!)

  • Feature Request: Photo Borders and Copying in Books

These are a few related feature requests. If anyone knows of a better way to do this with the current software, then I would love to hear it.
When making books I like to have borders around the pictures of various colors (usually black or white) and various widths. In Apeture this is a pain to do. I fiqured out that I could fake it by making a picture box and inserting a solid black picture into it and then creating a smaller picture box in front of it for my real photo. This might be tolerable if I could at least then select both picture boxes and their contents to copy and then onto other pages as a template that I can resize as needed.
Ideally I would love to be able to copy and paste multiple elements on a book page and I would like to be able to define photo borders. Any chance of seeing this in the near future?
    Thanks,
    Sean

Thanks for the reply. You are right, the cut and paste works fine, it just didn't work the way I expected it to. Maybe that is a GUI design thing to consider. I was actually trying to click and drag a selection box like you might do in iPhoto to select multiple images that are right beside each other. This doesn't work at all in Aperture, but your method does work just fine.
I agree with the other poster that some additional features like:
    Photo Borders
    Export to PSD (with layers)
Custom page sizes and Custom themes
would be very nice and start to make that tool truley useful.
Thanks for a really nice product. Keep up the good work and stay ahead of the pack.

  • Why can't I read a book purchased through iPhone ibook app on my MacBook Pro?

Why can't I read a book purchased through iPhone ibook app on my MacBook Pro? Also, is there any way to print pages from book?

In general if you want to read paid-for ebooks on your Mac, you need to buy them from one of the other sources like Kindle, Nook, Kobo, or Googlebooks and use the free OS X and iOS reader apps which they provide instead of iBooks.

  • I have bought ebook from itunes and i can read it on Ibook on my Iphone, but I want to read book on my macbook what should I do?

I have bought ebook from itunes and i can read it on Ibook on my Iphone, but I want to read book on my macbook what should I do? please help me

...which is a real shame. I 'married' Kindle very early on, so that's my format of choice. I like being able to read on my e-reader or computer. I find it very odd that Apple hasn't come up with a Mac reader for its eBook format.

  • Feature Request // Book Module: Export as indd file and management

Book Module: Export as indd file and management
I would like to request a feature to export a book module as indd file.
I like PDF's but .indd is nice also so we are able to to more in depth layouts.
Having Lightoom being able to manage all your pictures and book layouts would be nice, alot of things can be done in one application.
Another Feature:  Using Lightoom as book layout management.
Being able to send a page(s) of the book from lightroom into InDesign to do indepth layout and editing, then being able to send it back into lightroom
Almost similar to how you can send a photo from LR in Photoshop to do indepth editing and then send it back into lightroom.
This could and will ease the workflow of book management and layout design.  So lightroom will not only be able to manage photos, but also indesign and book layouts.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4238530#4238530

Why do repeat it here, as you have already filed a feature request for it?
BTW AFAIK this is already implemented: you can use Adobe Illustrator or InDesign or Opensource Scribus to edit layouts.
They are just not ready to publish how - another sign of the quality processes at Adobe.
But you do not send from the book module.
You create upfront layout templates, which you can import for use inside LR book module.
    This is a one-way street.
The book module designers did not acknowledge a use case where you might want to fiddle the exact placement of really chosen images.
It is always you first design a template, then use it.
Love it or leave it - *change it* is not an option that Adobe seems to give to their beta testers.
