Feature Request - Save Emailed Photos

I'd like to be able to save pictures that are in my email to my iphone- using them as wallpaper, applying to contacts, etc...

In the bottom left corner of the email dialog, select Create New Preset.  That'll take you to an export dialog where you can add watermark and save it as a new email preset.

  • Camera works fine; won't take screenshots or save emailed photos to Camera Roll

I can't make my iPhone 5c (IOS 7) save emailed photos or take screenshots. When I take a screenshot, the screen blinks like it's supposed to, but nothing shows up in my camera roll. Same with saving emailed pictures. Tried restarting and resetting; didn't find a relevant post on the forum. Could someone help?

I did exactly as you suggested and the phone froze up and acted really funky. So I did a normal power cycle after your maneuver and viola! The camera snapped away click - click - click!!!! Thank you for the help -- as an embedded hardware engineer I wonder what has gone awry with the software.
As I like to say (usually surrounding some goofiness with Windows) "somewhere there is a software engineer responsible for my misery."
    Thanks again.

  • Can't save emailed photos to iPhoto

The computer is an iBook G3, 900 MHz, 40 GB hard drive running OS X v.10.4.11 with Mail 2 and iPhoto 2. This is a computer which I am trying to set up for a friend.
I recently posted a similar question in the iPhoto forum thinking the problem might be with version of iPhoto that originally shipped with the iBook, but to date have received no replies. I am now wondering if it's a Mail problem rather than an iPhoto problem.
If the computer receives an emailed photo, I get the "Save" button and if I click on it, I also get the "Add to iPhoto" option. However, if I select the "Add to iPhoto" option, nothing happens. The photo is not added to the iPhoto library.
There is also an external 120 GB FireWire external drive associated with this computer. My niece did the original installation on the boot drive, which I believe was just an erase and install from a retail Tiger disc. I had to restore the iLife applications from the Jaguar system disc. I then came across this KB article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2475
Thinking that was the problem, I took the external disk and did a fresh installation starting from the Jaguar system discs and then upgrading to Tiger and updating all the software. The external drive now has a full installation on it including OS 9.
Same thing--I cannot simply save a photo to iPhoto. I also noticed that if I go to Mail>Preferences>Fonts and Colors and set preferences for larger fonts, this also does not work. However, I am able to put the magnifier in the Mail tool bar and this does work to enlarge text. This is true for both the internal and external hard drive.
My friend is new to Macs and new to computers, so I would like to make Mail and iPhoto as simple as possible for him to use.
We're using a GMail IMAP account if that has any bearing.
    Thanks in advance!

I don't believe so--it's a fresh installation of the OS on both hard drives. I downloaded iStatPro and Maintidget on both drives and SMART Reporter and Smart Utility on the built in drive as well, but I wouldn't expect any of these to have anything to do with how mail works.
It's possible I somehow made some sort of an error when I set up Mail-- I followed the GMail instructions. Not sure where to look for something like this.
To be more specific about what I do, I click on the gray triangle to the right of "Save", and I get a drop down menu with the photos and the option of "Save to iPhoto" at the bottom of the list. I go down and click on the "Save to iPhoto" and nothing happens.
I know the iBook G3 is doing this because I was trying to show my friend how to add emailed photos to his iPhoto library and it just doesn't work.
I also have a different iBook G4 running Tiger, and with both iPhoto 6 and iPhoto 8, I can add emailed photos to iPhoto in this way.
I'm wondering if I need to find my friend a newer version of iPhoto--maybe iPhoto 5. I'm wondering if iPhoto 2 is the problem--maybe this feature doesn't work on it. That's why I tried my question on the iPhoto forum first, but so far no response, and also no response to some other questions about iPhoto 2.
Yes, I did repair permissions on both drives until there was nothing left to repair.
Thanks for the response--I am very puzzled by this.

  • Feature Request: Add multiple photos to catalog at once

The API currently allows you to use catalog:addPhoto() to add a single photo to the catalog.
This works fine, but a poor user experience when adding a number of photos (esp. dozens or hundreds) - there's a separate child progress bar for each, masking the overall progress, and if the user has a sound enabled on import, it plays the sound on each photo import. If there were a way to import multiple photos at once (or API options/params to disable both of the feedbacks), this would make for a better UX when importing a lot of pictures.

Sorry. I'm having a hard time finding my way around these forums, and the search is less than helpful.
Please point me in the right direction.
Edit: I found the correct forum now, and have recreated my feature requests there and deleted them from this forum (with the exception of this thread, which I can't delete at this point). My apologies.

  • (feature request) Save bookmarks

I've been using sqld to do some pl/sql development recently and it is great. A feature that would make it even better would be the ability to save bookmarks. If I have a package nicely bookmarked it's great....until I shutdown sqld. At which point all my bookmarks are lost. This essentially makes bookmarking useless. I'm not going to bother setting up bookmarks if they're going to be lost every time I shutdown.

I like the idea. Please post over at http://sqldeveloper.oracle.com under feature requests so that people can vote on it.

  • Help! Can't save email photo attachments to iphoto

Does anyone know how to download photos sent to you in an email directly to iphoto? It seems weird that there isn't an option to do that. any suggestions?

    Greetings,
How were the images sent: as part of a Rich Text email, or plain text email, with an attachment? Either way, for each image, you should see a Save button, which will display an Add to iPhoto option when you click and hold.

  • Feature Request: Multiple Email Reply

I've spent a few minutes hunting around the Apple.com website trying to find/search for a way to provide feedback for Mail. There doesn't appear to be such a beast, so I thought I would post it here.
In other email programs I have used over the years, I could select more than one email message, select reply, and all of the selected emails would appear in the one message, which was handy when you were replying to several messages to the same person at once.
Yes, I could forward them, but It would be nice to just be able to reply to them. So, Apple, there you have my suggestion.

Someone else looked for this a while back, so I wrote them this little script. Let me know if you have problems with it.

  • [feature request] Save original image when doing HDR

As the subject says - would be very nice to have an option to be able to get both images saved - HDR and the normal shot. iPhone5 that I also use has this option and it's very handy, please implement it.
I shoot a lot on the go and sometimes the camera shakes or objects move and then the final HDR image (that is combined out of a number of images taken with different exposures has a lot of "ghosting" on it. Typical problem that is usually corrected manually when I work with big DSLRs and of course avoided by using tripod.. but anyway, please consider adding the ability to save BOTH normal shot AND the HDR one. Some other big names in industry have it, it's a nice option for some people and in general there's no reason not to have it.

People, please, if you like the idea and would like to have such feature implemented in future software updates or at least draw some attention to it, just post reply here with your approval.. or make a better suggestion. Takes just a few seconds of your time, but it's worth it.

  • Feature Request- Save in Background in Full Screen

I work in full screen with Menu Bars 98% of the time.  I also enjoy the new save in background feature.
The problem is that when in full screen I can't tell when it's saving and the status of the save.  This is particularly frustrating when I'm trying to close a file.  I think there needs to be an option to have it save in background but pop up a status window, or some way to see the status of the save while in full screen.

Thanks for the suggestion.  However it still doesn't show the bar with the save status when I have the floating window on a second screen and photoshop in another.  The bottom status bar is attached to the document not the main photoshop window.  So no matter where you have photoshop, if you make a document full screen it hides that bottom bar.
I don't think of this as having my cake and eating it too either.  Full screen mode with menu bars doesn't exist to minimize distractions (though some may use it for that), but rather to maximize screen real estate.  I'm using it so I can pan and flick my images from spot to spot while I retouch.   Since they already give us the option to have full screen with menu bars, then I just think it would be nice to have the bottom status bar show as well while in full scren mode.  I've always wished I could still see that in full screen to manage efficency while working on large files, but it's never been a bother.  Now that it is also where the save status is showing, I just think it would be great to be able to see it in full screen with menu bars mode.  And if not, then still be able to have the Save dialog status window pop up while having background save enabled.
** i totally forgot about turning on timing and efficency in the Info panel . That would be a perfect place for them to put the saving status since they already have the other options there.

  • Outlook Feature Request - "After email is read" rule trigger

I organize my emails within a folder structure but only after I've read them.
I would love to be able to create a Rule within Outlook that allows me to have a 'move email to folder' rule that is triggered AFTER I've read an email.
    Example Workflow:
    An email comes in
    I read the email
    Email status changes to 'read'
Rule fires that moves the read email to a specified folder per the rule

Rules are processed during send/receive or when selected manually so hooking it to the "Mark as Read" action would require a completely separate processing mechanism. You can do this with some VBA already though.
Why exactly do you want to move the message after you've marked it as read instead of doing this directly? By using a Search Folder you would be able to move it directly and still be able to easily read all your (unread) mail from a single container.
    FWIW; I hardly use the Inbox anymore but work from my "Today's Unread Mail" Search Folder and have rules sort my messages directly when they are being received. See;

  • Feature request: Select emails by count-from-sender

Please allow me to select emails by count? e.g. indexing all the senders and counting the emails received from each.
    Here's how that would help:
When it comes to free up a few Gigs of space in disk and improve Mail's performance, selecting thousands of emails from a few big senders is more effective than attempting the crazy task of bothering ourselves with finding just undreds of emails from hundreds of small senders!
Most of the emails we'd like to be able to handle without deleting them nor letting them to fall into the spam filter's claws, are the ones we ACTUALLY suscribed to, but never had the time to recover the password, login to them, update the email preferences (most times tricky or falsely advertised as "editable", or just impossible)… a total mission certainly harder than just leting them come, and some day delete them all. After all, It's easy: selecting ALL the emails from facebook, hit delete. Done.
Now multiply that for tens of big senders, and it's a pain.
I want to select the emails by COUNT BY SENDER, and be able to slide up or down the threshold to select them.
Slide to the left, and all emails from senders with at least 2 emails sent will be selected.
Slide to the right and only emails from senders with e.g. 10 emails sent would be selected.
( Read or unread would be a good extra criteria )
That way, I don't need to go through the hundreds of small senders and wear out my brain thinking one by one whether to delete it or not, for what? to delete just a few hundred emails an hour!.
This way I can go through a few giants, and delete thousands at once.
Or is ther a way to do it (script? add-on? rule?) and I didn't find it?

  • Feature Request: save metadata to file, and read metadata from file.

Please have function to save metadata to file, and read metadata from file.
This would allow us to write cross-platform plugins that can assure data is up-to-date in the xmp, or modify xmp and have it reinstated in the catalog.
This would go nicely with the ability to save xmp for virtual copies, dng, and rgb formats.

Perhaps someone with direct experience with publishing to Smugmug will chime in.  Short of that, some thoughts on your issues:
Should I not bother to "Save Metadata to File", this seems to be what is messing up the SmugMug publish service?
I very much doubt that it is messing up the publishing.  What gets saved to the file from the catalog is independent of what gets exported.  Saving metadata to the file is generally a good practice (in case you screw up your catalog backups).  Many, perhaps most, users set the preference Catalog Settings > Automatically Write Changes Into XMP.
I would have expected it to behave like an export which would write synonyms, exclude keywords that should be excluded, etc, which seems to work ok in point 6 above.
    Yes, that's a reasonable expectation.
You may have done this already, but double-check: Right-click the Smugmug publishing service in the left-hand column of the Library, select Edit Settings, and in the Metadata section verify that you have Include: All Metadata set.
Did you download the Smugmug plugin from Smugmug? You might try this Smugmug plugin instead -- the author designed the publishing architecture of LR and has an excellent reputation.
Are the publish services more effort than they are worth? So I get SmugMug to work, what happens when I try Flickr?
I think many users find the publishing services are generally worthwhile.  I publish regularly to Flickr (using the built-in Flickr plugin, which isn't completely reliable) and the Zenfolio plugin from Friedl.

  • Feature Request: publishedCollection:setPhotoPublished(photo, remoteId, remoteUrl, status)

In normal published collections I can do this
publishedCollection:addPhotoByRemoteId( photo, remoteId, remoteUrl, true )
and that will add a photo to the collection and set its published status to true and would not appear as photo need to be publsied by pressing the Publish Button. This gives me flexibility to add photos to multiple published collection without the requirements to republish. Also, it can act as update function if the photo is already in the collection. But.. with smart collection the function call addPhotoByRemoteId fail as there is no such method.
I am building a plugin that keep track of a single instance of the photos in the remote server (flickr) and each collection is just a mere photoset where a photo can be available within multiple photosets (collection in lightroom). with the function describe above my plugin worked well... but when I created a smart collection and try to publish that.. you can guess it, the function call fail.. for now I just diasble it for smart collections...
    I want to suggest..
    publishedCollection:setPhotoRemoteId(photo, remoteId, remoteUrl, status)
a somewhat similar method to the previous one but it only work if the photo is aready in a collection thus will raise error if the photo is not in that collection. This will work both on normal publish collection or smart publish collection.
Or better still.. make the first method addPhotoByRemoteId to work in both normal or smart collection. If the photo exist in smart publish collection because meeting criteria of the smart collection it will update the remote informations but if the photo is not already in smart publish collection method just exit quietly.

  • Feature Request:- Option to reply to reply to emails in text

    Hi there....
Is it possible to set up replying to emails to send text (with no html)
If not, can i get a feature request to send emails in text, or is there an app that has this feature?
It is sad I get maybe between 40 and 100 emails a day, that I cannot reply to on my Touchpad, or Pre 2, as they only allow text email return.
as of 2007, there were over 109 million yahoo group members across 8.8 million groups. Mostly support forums, sending and recieving emails to and from 109 million people.
These support forums and other ghelp yahoo groups, require emails to be received in text, and in our email apps had to set for text only, to avoid viruses and other attempts at marketting.
I get my yahoo support emails, on webos, but cannot reply from webos, and have to wait until i get to my laptop with thunderbird.
please can you add text send/reply option for those 109 million plus yahoo group users who cannot reply to yahoo groups emails.
    thanks....
this is a major pain and must be for others.

Managing layered PSD files in Aperture
For those who absolutely must manage layered PSD files in Aperture, here is the way to do it...
1- In your original PSD file, HIDE ALL LAYERS above the background layer
2- IMPORT this PSD file into Aperture
3- CREATE A VERSION in Aperture by choosing to edit externally in Photoshop.
4- Back in Photoshop OPEN THE ORIGINAL PSD file along with the new version
5- LINK all the LAYERS in the original PSD file and DRAG them TO the new VERSION (holding the shift key down so they pin register)
6- SAVE the new version in Photoshop
7- Back in Aperture your version is now an exact layered copy of your original which will not flatten when reopened from Aperture into Photoshop.
Obviously this process will be rather tedious if you need to deal with hundreds of layered PSD files, but if you are in that situation that implies you already have a workflow and a storage strategy that works well for you. So why change, especially to Aperture?
Adobe Bridge or Media Pro or Portfolio are the obvious programs for you !
