Feature Wanted

Hello,
I just wanted to suggest a feature. I'm new and not sure we're to put this but because I'm using a iPhone 5 I decided to put it under iPhone 5.
Well the feature I want is to be able to text a person back while I'm playing a app. I don't like leaving a app to text and it be nice to be able to text someone back while I'm in a app like Instagram or real racing 2, etc. Can someone give me a link so I can suggest this?

Features wanted

Is there any target date for new verions of 3i user edition to include features like
- drill to related items/table,
- specify exceptions,
- graphs/charts
??

Oracle is going to come up with 4 small releases of Discoverer in the next year with one release each quarter. I think they are expecting that by the third quarter release (end of Jan/feb 2001) all the features in 3i will be compatible with what they have in the windows version. Let's hope that this is true

How do you get the 'act on later' feature?

I have 3 email accts on iphone. Only one has a 'act on later' as feature of inbox. Great feature; want it for other two. Can someone help? thanks.

No it is on the email acct screen on iphone, not on computer. It is under Saved. It is indented and there is act on later; delete; saved IMs. Not sure how they got there whereas the other two accts don't have those. Very helpful as I said before.
One other thing on the sent emails I just noticed when looking at the acct screen for this reply: the sent 'airplane' is grayed out and not dark like the other acct that works. I went into adv settings and made sure it has the sent checked. thanks for trying; maybe there is a aol'er out there.

CS3 installs but won't run

Ok - not sure if this goes in this section or not.. but it's a technical question.
My b/f bought me a Dell Laptop last week. It has the recommended minimum of everything adobe says it needs for photoshop CS3 (see below for 1721 specs)
When I installed it on the laptop - it was slow, but said it installed. But when I go to open up Photoshop, it opens the screen - and then just hangs. After about 5 minutes it says not responding and I close it. Any of the other programs that came with won't even get that far. I click on them and it gives the little "thinking" circle (as I call it.. lol) and then nothing.
I have read that CS3 has issues with Vista - but their site says the home premium should work. I've also read about 64 bit issues.. but the OS is 32 bit - so it's capable of running 32bit systems... I guess.
I called adobe yesterday after installing and reinstalling CS3 15+ times... with the same issue. I was on the phone for about 2 hours with them. Basically - they have NO CLUE what it would be since it installs fine and opens with no error messages. I checked the log files and there is nothing in there I see that says any kind of error.
I have disable windows defender, uninstalled McAfee and google desktop (all are known to cause issues with CS3), I have ALL non MS startup services turned off.. I have turned off the MS users control.. all suggested by the adobe tech.
I have installed using the run as administrator. Nothing. Created a new admin account and installed on that user and opened on reg admin account. Nothing. (again typical things that correct cs3 install issues)
The last thing the guy said was that it might be a video issue. I checked and there aren't any issues mentioned and no driver updates listed.
We tryed installing this on my b/f's laptop. He bought the exact one I have (except his is red.. mine blue.. lol) and it does the EXACT same thing...
So today we called dell. they say it's a software issue and won't answer any questions for free. Apparently only hardware support is free... But they won't accept this is a hardware conflict with the software..

Anybody have any clues on this?

I have tried installing from the DVD and also from the zip file. the zip file was extracted to the hard drive brfore I ran it - and I ran it as administrator.
And when it stalls - it gives the (NOT RESPONDING) tag on the window - which usually means that even if I leave it (and I have for up to 20 minutes) - still nothing.
Here's the update from my dealings with DEll today...
Dell tech support guy told me that it was a know issue that CS3 WON'T run on Vista and that Adobe is working the issue
Told them that I knew others that were running it on Vista and it worked fine. They had no answer.
Then I waited for the Technical support manger to call. This is after expressing my displeasure to the technical supervisor about them trying to pawn this issue off on anyone else but themselves. Why can't they go grab a 1721 off the shelf and replicate the issue and try to figure it out from there?!?!?!
I used to work on a network helpdesk.. if I tried to pull that crap answer without trying to replicate the issue and AT LEAST try to find an answer.. I wouldn't have lasted very long at all!!!!
The Tech manager told me to call customer support and ask for an OS swap (from vista to XP) because they don't know what the problem is and so it muct be a Vista compatibility issue
I call customer support. They say that they no longer will give out XP since it is a step backwards. And to install XP on the machine ourselves (even a liscensed copy) would void the warranty. They suggest I talk to sales about swapping the laptop out with a "more compatible" one. Which isn't a totally bad idea since I really do think it is an AMD/ATI conflict.
They transfer me to Sales.. ohh - you used the Employee Purchase program.. you need to talk to them.. and they transfer me.
The EPP people tell me.. ohhhh you didn't actually go through us since you bought it off the Dell Outlet store. So they transfer me.
The dell outlet store says they will be more than happy to swap me out to an Intel based machine.
Only catch is the Intels are more expensive. They don't have any for the price we paid for the amd's. Fot about $40 more I can get one with a slower processer, a gig less ram, no dvd writer, but with a 160gb hd. To get compatible to mine - would be about $150 more.
And they only have silver in the low end, and black or brown in the higher. Not that I really give a s@!t what the color is.. but it brings up the main reason I am sooo pissed abput all of this....
Why should I have to pay more money, settle on doing without option/features want/need.. just because THEY don't want to take the time to figure out what the real issue is?!?!?! Why isn't it them doing these calls and doing all this troubleshooting.. Why am I being peanilzed for THEM not wanting to do their jobs....
Told the B/F that I am done with Dell. That I don't want the laptop anymore and I don't want any other one from them. He says he'll pay the extra and get me the other one.. but that isn't the point....
Not sure what my next move is.

10g Expression Filter

We are trying to use expression filters to match rows with rules. Table A contains transactions [~ 1.5 million rows], Table B contains the rules [testing with 5 rules, we expect to have a few hundred to a thousand rules]. SQL queries do a cartesian join between table A and table B using the evaluate function to identify all rules that a transaction satisfies. While the process works as expected it is extremely slow. We see a lot of time being spent in the <attribute_set>.dynamiceval function. We also used to see a significant amount of time spent in the getVarchar() function but we got around that by creating the name-value pair string of parameters in the sql itself using the to_char function and the concatenation operator. There is no infomation in the manuals -- App Dev or Performance Tuning -- on optimizing queries using evaluate. We understand that indexing the criteria can provide some benefits and we have experimented with that but we are too slow [1 row per second on a lightly loaded 4-cpu hp superdome with 8gb of memory] with even a single rule in our rules table. All tables are appropriatley analyzed. We had also observed that the plan chosen by the optimizer would use a nested loop between tables A and B with the rules table as the driver full scanning the transaction table for every rule. We hinted this behavior away.
I will be happy to share the test code if someone with experience on this feature wants to take a look at it to offer an opinion.

When the EVALUATE operator is used as a join predicate, an ORDERED hint may be required to force a nested-loop join with the table storing expressions as the inner table. This is a side-effect from the extensible indexing behavior. Please refer to article "Filter Data Before You Get it" under "Code listing 9" in the May'05 issue of Oracle magazine for exact syntax.

Since the data used for the expression evaluation is from another table, you may want to use a table alias attribute in the attribute set(using EXF$TABLE_ALIAS).

Business function Activation

Hi All,
Wanted to understand what would be the impact activating business function "FIN_TRAVEL_2" for Travel management.
Presently we are on FIN_TRAVEL_1 and EHP6. Wanted to have both Travel request and Travel expense report output view though PR05.
As FIN_TRAVEL_2 has this extended feature, wanted to activate that before which thought of taking the experts view on the impact it can have on the existing system.
As new fields get activated on TRIP, Travel Request and Travel expense report, will this have issue for the ones created before the activation.

Wanted to know, if we activate "the FIN_TRAVEL_2" business function now, will that impact anything on the current Travel Requests or Expense sheet in any ways for processing. Also there is portal in place through which Travel requests are created too.
The answer to that and to the activation of any business function in general is always YES. There's loads of coding in hundreds of subparts of the frame program that polls the Switchframework whether certain switches are switched on. I'm pretty sure there's nobody (including myself) who can line out every change in programmable process that takes place due to the activation.
You say you are using a portal, I assume you are using the WebDynpro JAVA Services here? Or are you using transaction iviews with TA TRIP?
What is stated in the help simply means that trips that are created in TA TRIP and WDA are not interchangeably processable. This does not mean that you cannot use the TA TRIP anymore once the business function is activated, but in case in your current business process you are furhter processing requests that are at the moment created in WebDynpro JAVA, that is not going to work likewise with WDA. (I hope this answers your question).
Hence, just wanted to know if i activate this which cant be irreversable, will that have adverse impact on the existing TR or Travel expense reports or any other functionality.
Careful. The activation of FIN_TRAVEL_2 IS irreversable, this means it is NOT reversable. The only unofficial way to deactivate such a business function is to roll back the Database.
I have a question: What exactly are you using the Transaction TRIP for anyway? From EHP2 onwards it's practically obsolete, so you could shift your processes completely to the WDA services and TA PR05.

E7 - GPS - Voice Navigation - Help

I had 6110 Navigator before and was using GPS in that.
Currently I am using E7. Though Nokia has declared that using the maps are fully free, when I use GPS, it asking me to connect to internet and saying connection failed. I have marked offline in the settings. But still this happens... But if I choose WLAN only in "Settings->Connectivity->Settings->Data use in home country", then I am not able to get driving directions. Then what is meant by FREE?
Next thing i love in 6110 is, when i am using the driving direction, whenever I come across any petrol bunk or food court or theatre or hospital, I will get alerts like a ping sound. But this is not available in E7 though it shows in the screen that there is a petrol bunk like that. Is this feature wantedly disabled or is there any way to enable it? Is Nokia working towards this?

I was hoping you would say V2. It has been such a long time since I used V1 that I cannot remember the keystrokes required to update your licence.
Basically what you have to do is to go through the license purchase process but just before you actually pay for it you select to update the license details. This will prompt for the Nokia Maps to connect to the server to check for any licenses available to your phone. Do this when ytou are within range of your wlan. During this upgrade process, assuming you are entitled to a 1 yr free license, the server should confirm the existence of a 1 yr license for your phone and update your phone with it.
I am sorry I cannot provide more accurate keystrokes as I just can't recall them for V1.
As navigation licences are regional, ensure that the license you have is for your region. Also, unless the maps for your region is already pre-installed, you may have to install it using the Map Loader utility which is available for download from

You will also find the latest (V2) version of Nokia Maps here should you decide to upgrade the V1 you currently have.

Keep transitions intact when importing mult. iPhoto images into iMovie HD?

Is it possible to import a completed iPhoto album show with hundreds of images with random transitions between each into iMovie while still keeping the random transitions between the iPhoto images intact?
If not, is there a way to select random transitions between the still images in iMovie once they get there rather than select and create each and every one of the transitions myself?

Because iMovie and iPhoto serve different purposes, each has features not found in the other. There is no way in iMovie to automatically add random transitions to slideshows, for example, while iPhoto offers that feature. (In iMovie, the assumption is the user wants absolute control over such features, wants to control each frame of the slideshow.)
That doesn't prevent you from having your cake and eating it too, however. Remember, many of the iLife apps allow you move stuff around between them.
For example, you can create a slideshow containing random transitions in iPhoto, export it to a QuickTime movie, import that movie to iMovie, add titles and songs, add some video from a video camera, add a voiceover narration, add some Chapter Markers, add an iMovie theme to introduce each chapter, then send the iMovie project off to iDVD to burn a DVD that plays on a TV.
So, check out the File > Export command in iPhoto. Set the exported movie to 640x480. The command will export your iPhoto slideshow to an MPEG-4 type QuickTime movie. Create a new MPEG-4 type iMovie project and import that movie to it. (Use the disclosure arrow towards the bottom of the window where you name the new iMovie project to select the MPEG-4 project type.)

Airplay music streaming and internal DAC bypass

Hello everyone, I'm an "audiophile" who loves high quality liquid music, and I need help about Airplay hi-fi music streaming.
I own an Apple TV 3gen linked with optical cable to my stereo amplifier internal hi-end DAC for optimal sound quality. Everything is fine when I play my iTunes network shared music using the Apple TV iTunes app or computer shared libraries, because the digital file is directly sent without manipulation to the hi-end amplifier's DAC.
When I stream music with my macbook pro to the Apple TV with Airplay, I notice that the macbook pro internal DAC isn't bypassed causing bad sound output. I also notice that because every audio control in the macbook is still active, so you can set the voume output and use the equalizer. This means that there is a Digital to Analog conversion (for sound control) and then an Analog to Digital conversion (for the Airplay streaming) made by macbook pro internal DAC.
As I said before, this workflow causes bad sound output, so is there a way to configure Airplay to stream untouched music files bypassing the internal device DAC (the DACs of iphones, ipads and macs)?

I suspect you'll find many of the high-end audio devices use custom library software - they may not run with iTunes directly, but I suspect some will be able to access files stored in iTunes. The problem really is the AppleTV is not configurable to simply output what it is sent - I don't honestly know if for example iTunes downsamples hi def files before sending to AppleTV or if AppleTV does it internally.
In many ways it may not matter if AppleTV is not outputting as you want.
I think the problem with Airplay is that the technology is licensed from Apple for inclusion in those devices - from memory things like the first Zeppelin Air used to boast high-quality DACs but actually the Airplay stream that went to those devices was lower quality. I've not really tested any of these things for a while to be honest and am rather out of touch with current AV gear. Thinking about it I can use my Pioneer as an Airplay destination, but as you have noticed volume control/equaliser etc are active so the stream is not the original - must check on sample rate/bit depth though.
Airplay may or may not be capable of what you want now, but even if it isn't it may evolve to do so in the future. I suspect your best option will be to connect your Mac directly to the DAC if streaming won't work.

BitPerfect is available in the AppStore - OS X removed some APIs for low level access to audio output some times ago - not sure if they are available again now.

In the past there have been several lively discussions here where people have moaned that AppleTV does not have a volume control - I have always argued that it is a 'source' device and volume etc should be controlled on the amp or TV as with conventional audio sources but many devices do have volume controls these days so consumers who like those features want them. They did actually add volume control to AppleTV 1 for stereo audio but you could disable it in Settings.

ITunes accesses 'net and changes song titles. Please make it stop!

Everytime I put in a CD, iTunes seems to access somewhere on the 'net and displays info about the CD, including stuff like "genre", blah blah blah.
But the most annoying thing is when it changes the title of a song... Recently I inserted a CD single of a pre-release from a well-known recording artist and iTunes decided to name the track "Send In The Clowns" (the actual title couldn't be further afield from this).
I really hate this "feature", want it to stop. How do I do it?

First, I seem to remember that not too long ago iTunes offered a pref which let users decide whether or not they wanted iTunes to connect to the 'net. Now that pref is gone, hence my post here.
Ewwww... how slimily corporate. Take away a feature from software we've all paid for without disclosure; a feature that allows private people to decide whether or not they want to have their home enjoyment of music scanned by an anonymous corporation. Great...
Second, I'm not so sure I'd want to take even 1 millisecond out of my life to add information to this database. Not sure what the greater good is that I'd be contributing to, especially when I don't want the Gracenote "feature" to begin with. Maybe I'm just not that altruistic or something...
But to have to add info to the Gracenote database so that Gracenote won't send the wrong information back to my computer -- a feature I don't want anyway?
I think it's time for me to stop using iTunes, other than to purchase music from time to time. There are plenty of other ways for me to listen to audio on my system. It's all just too... icky... At the moment I'm taken aback at the lack of control I'm afforded while I use my computer, and how features I've paid for are taken away without notice. Great...

Very Disconcerting Issue Happened with my WRT54G

Does anyone know what would cause my router (WRT54G) to reset to factory defaults just out of the blue? I did not touch the reset button at all. In fact, I was on my laptop in another room when it happened. I lost wireless connectivity and while troubleshooting it, I discovered all of my settings had been reset. Even the password to access the interface into the router was reset to factory default. I was able to fix everything, but I'd like to know what caused it.
At first, I thought I may have been hacked, but I have a very strong key phrase set with WPA2-PSK encryption. I also have enabled the MAC filter and only permit access to the PCs I have listed in the MAC filter list. Fireware is also up to date.
I know it's still not impossible to hack, but I can't see anyone with the type of knowledge to beat those security features wanting to hack into my network.
Are there any other reasonable explanations of why this happened?
EDIT (I forgot to add 2 things):
1 - There was a power outage here earlier in the day, but I had connectivity for at least an hour after it came back on, with no issues.
2 - Right before this happened, I started getting 'A duplicate IP address has beee detected on the network'. This one was really strange because the router hands out the IP address via DHCP. Why would it give out one already in use?

It was probably because of the power outage. You can either keep a backup copy of your settings through the backup and restore tab or use a surge protector to prevent your router from losing those settings in case another outage happens.
The duplicate IP issue was probably because of the outage as well.

Memory timings, weird bios behaviour, frustration...

I recently bought a MSI 875P mobo, a P4c 2.4GHz to go with it and also 2x512MB Kingston HyperX PC3200 memory.
First thing I did was flash the bios to the newest version (1.8), which, after reading things from another thread might not have been such a great idea after all.
Seems that the CAS latency setting in the bios does not do anything. No matter if its set to 2, 2.5 or 3, CPU-Z always shows 2. Also, im getting quite frustratign results when overclocking with this mobo, no matter how much voltage I give to the memory (I have tried as much as 3,2v) whenever the memory bus is over 200MHz the system wont be stable. It seems as if the memory voltage setting doesnt do anything, as it doesnt matter if its set to 2.5 or 3.2 it wont be any more or less stable. (I know over 200MHz is over spec for this memory but the mem is supposed to do alot better than that, especially when increasing the voltage.) Also even with low memory speeds im unable to get the CPU to go very high... it does 3GHz (250MHz FSB) fine with default core voltage, but anything above that wont be stable no matter what CPU core voltage I use. Could be my CPU, but I suspect the motherboard to be the reason with so many faults already.
Theres also some weird behaviour by the bios I have seen. For example, sometimes the AGP/PCI divider has three settings (66,75,83MHz) and sometimes it allows me to set the frequencies by 1MHz steps, but still so that there is no 66MHz setting at all, just 67 - 83MHz and one extra setting which gets adjusted as I adjust the FSB. Also, sometimes when I try to go into the BIOS setup, I only get a black screen. This often happens if I press some other key (for example tab) before pressing del during POST. weird and extremely annoying.
Is there any hope that issues such as these would be resolved in a future bios update? I'm a little frustrated after setting up this system with watercooling etc. and now being stuck with this motherboard doing weird things and certainly not being a good mobo for overclocking!
In case these issues wont be solved in the near future, I will propably switch to another brand motherboard... Anyone reading these boards with good experience from other manufacturers, preferably similar boards as the 875P in terms of features (wanted ones)?

This is what I have done, the performance setting is set to slow, and even right now I have CAS 3 set in the bios but cpu-z still shows its using CAS 2. Using 333MHz DRAM clock with 250MHz FSB is stable at all default voltages, but anything above those wont work, no matter what voltages. If I set the FSB to 255, it wont be stable anymore, not even with 1.7v vcore and 3.3v memory voltage. Even setting the DRAM clock to 266MHz wont be stable with 255FSB. Also, running a lower FSB with a higher memory clock, so that the FSB is lower but memory goes above 200MHz wont be stable no matter what.

How Many of Us Own Word?

I was wondering how many of us own Word? What are the main reasons you use Pages over Word, which you own?
I am a teacher and just started making more of my documents in Pages. The reason I tend to use it over Word is...
1. I seem to be able to create and modify styles a lot easier in Pages
2. Lists seem to work the way I want them to and not the way Word's auto-format feature wants to make them...actually, that leads me to an overall comment...
3. I don't feel like I have to fight with Pages as much as I do with Word...it doesn't get in my way
However, I do miss some aspects of Word...
1. I like Word's pasting options -- paste only as text or match document formatting...that's nice
2. Word's contextual menus offer fast access to options rather than poking through Pages' Inspector window for everything
3. Word's autocorrect feature where it pulls words from the dictionary to recognize and replace misspelled words
So, while I really like Pages and am trying to transition to it for the reasons I stated above, I still find myself longing for Word features at times. So, I'm left balancing my time between the two programs, which I don't like. I just wish Pages had it all right now, but I'll guess I'll have to go through the growing pain.
For those who also own Word, what has been your experience?

Well I don't own Word, and never will.
It was on offer in a huge corporation I worked with for many years - most of our work done in an IBM 3270 mainframe session. But for word-processing we still had Lotus Word Pro - which went off the rails a bit trying to keep up with Word, and now is moribund. Still its original Ami Pro's inspiration was to facilitate the path from input to publication, and in some aspects it was easier to format, although lacking in even such basic features as proper equalisation of the depth of text in facing pages or adjacent columns. Pages has that, and better realises what Ami Pro (later Word Pro) had tried to do in the first place.
Word just faced you with too much guff, and tended to impose its own look on whatever you tried to do with it. I still reckon I can recognise a Word doc from the other end of a bus, and I frankly don't care if I never see another one. But the problem with both of those was Windows, which never stopped crashing in any iteration we had of it. Useless for creative writing.
Don't know how Word goes on the Mac. I'm told it's better. But it's still the same old beast. Pages is different, and I think predominantly addresses non-corporate uses - which suits me fine now I've retired.
I would like to see Pages grow, though, to accommodate specialist writing markets (e.g., scientific and academic) which I think would help to ensure it continues. In the meantime, though, for getting material into good-looking shape without a lot of fuss and bother, I think it's on the right track. But if we want to benefit from it, yes, there will be growing pains.
Amongst those might be some waiting for compatible third party plug-ins, rather than to see Pages overloaded with bits and pieces you have to comb through to get anything done at all. "Bloat" would destroy it. And I hope Apple won't be seduced into that. Its elegance is paramount.
The trouble with Word is its ubiquity. Except for completely independent use you're practically forced to use it, simply because everyone else does. But I think that will change with a broadening market, and a trend it will force towards file compatibility between many applications. At least I hope Pages will be a part of that, if only to survive. I'd hate to have to part with its style, once having savoured it, since I know of no equal with anything else.
However whilst it matures, I can understand your dilemma.
Here's hoping that Apple will appreciate the real potential of what they have, and throw some effort into refining it, despite a slow initial market response.

PS: You can cut or copy, then either paste as is or paste and match style from the Edit menu in Pages; and copy either character or paragraph styles to paste elsewhere in the Format menu. If you take Pages on its own terms, it does more than might be apparent if you look for how things were done in Word. Generally, the Inspector panels are for manipulating page set-up, layout, text (once you've chosen a font) and objects etc., and the menu and styles drawer for managing and applying things you've set up there. It's a different logic, but powerful.
