Features comparison of SharePoint Foundation 2010 & Office 365
Hi,
I there any documentation/chart or table comparison of features between Office 365 and SharePoint Foundation 2010?
I can only search comparison between office 365 and SP Foundation 2013.
Thanks!
See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/sharepoint-online-service-description.aspx
Towards the bottom it has the on-prem feature sets, but has all of the online and onprem feature sets listed on this page.

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 Workflows created in Sharepoint Designer
Using Sharepoint Designer 2010 (64 bit) on Sharepoint Foundation 2010 (free version)
I'm trying to get some basic workflows I've designed against a list in SPD working. They effectively just email a user the list item is assigned to based on some simple conditional checks.
I've deployed the workflow and its set to activate on item creation and item update.
Now I have checked the following already:
- App pool for SP site is running under its own service account (not System)
- I am the primary site collection administrator.
I'm getting this error in the log file: Unexpected
AutoStart Workflow: System.ArgumentException: The requested workflow task content type was not found on the SPWeb.
On further research it was suggested I didn't have OffWFCommon as a feature but this isn't part of Sharepoint Foundation 2010 so I'm pretty confused. The directory doesn't exist to install this feature.
Can Sharepoint Foundation 2010 actually use workflows created in SPD?
Any solutions or anything I've missed?Hello,
Approval WF template is not supported in foundation so use collect data from user WF in designer.

When server 2012 will not allow pre-requisite to run, due to the ASP.NET 3.5 or 4.5, do this:
Run, from admin command prompt:
Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx3 /All /Source:<drive>:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

Hi,
I have site with contains many document library each contains many MS Office and Pdf files. We have provided document library level access rights. While users click the file name, "Prompting the credentials while click MS office documents in document
library in SharePoint Foundation 2010".
Its annoying the user.
How could i resolve this? Its for all users.
Note: only for MS Office file. other files are opening correctly.
Kind Regards
Poomani SankaranHi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you got the promote issue when clicked the documents in the library of the SharePoint foundation server.
The issue may be caused that the Kerberos authentication is misconfigured, you can change to NTLM to check whether it works.

Issues with Office Documents in Sharepoint Foundations 2010
We recently upgraded to Sharepoint Foundations 2010 from Sharepoint V3.0. When I did the install of Sharepoint Foundations 2010, there was no mention of Office Web Apps in the Technet article. Now when our users try to open a document from Sharepoint,
then make changes and try to save back by just clicking on the "Save" button, they get an error stating that the upload failed or that the document is open in "Read Only". After searching for a month for an answer, I believe I need
to install Office Web Apps for Sharepoint but have yet to find an article that explains how to do it. I've found the articles on 2013 but not 2010. The article on 2013 asks that I do things in the Sharepoint Foundations server but when I follow
them, the options are not there. If anyone has any experience adding in the Office Web Apps to Sharepoint, I would sure appreciate some assistance.Hello,
You should ask on the
SharePoint forums.

SharePoint Foundation 2010 : Changing language settings
My employer would like to offer our clients the ability to specify a preferred language in-which to use our SharePoint solution.
I.e. Clicking on a national flag on the dashboard will consequently display the system text within the associated language.
Ideally this feature will be bespoke to each given user. I.e. Default language will be English. Each user thereafter will be able to specify their unique user session within their desired language.
Is it possible to configure our solution to offer this feature? If so, how?
We are currently using SharePoint Foundation 2010.
Many thanks in advance.
David
Senninha010The ability to display prompts in a different language in SharePoint 2013 is called the
Multiple Language User Interface (MUI). The issue with what you are attempting is not building an interface to enable or disable a specific language in the MUI. The problem is that the available languages are completely dependent on whether
a SharePoint Language pack for that language has been loaded or not. If they have been loaded then its just a matter of writing your application to take advantage of Localization support through the use of resource files. But localizing your application
without loading the SharePoint language pack for that language probably won't work well. here's a couple articles on the MUI and localization.

Hi,
I have SharePoint Foundation 2010 running on a single server with databases, with a second server in the farm serving as a 2nd app tier. Both server have the exact same versions of SharePoint loaded (according to the Central Admin site).
Whenever I try to run a search from any site in my SharePoint Foundation 2010 installation (in this example I typed "this is my query"), it hangs for 20-30 seconds while the IE status bar says:
Waiting for http://SERVER2010:80/tfs/SITE1/_layouts/searchresults.aspx?k=this%20is%20my%20query&u=http%3A%2F%2Ftfs2010db%2Ftfs%2FSITE1
Then it finally returns a results screen with an error that says: "Your search cannot be completed because of a service error. Try your search again or contact your administrator for more information."
Checking the SharePoint logs under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS, the relevant entries say the following (items I deem important

Not sure what "resource limit is reached" actually means. This SharePoint installation is running under regular SQL 2008 R2, and the
WSS_Content database is fairly small (10gig). I've reviewed the Search Service, the process account running it, the
WSS_SEARCH index database, and verified that the Content database is using the proper index database. Everything looks like it should be crawling/indexing/working fine. But the WSS_SEARCH
database isn't very large, so I'm not sure if the crawling is actually filling it with anything.
Not sure where to start seriously troubleshooting this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.Hi,
The query ran in tens of seconds. This indicates that at some point a bad plan compiled and stayed in the cache.
It may have gotten there because the statistics were out of date.
A possible way to keep this from happening is to rebuild statistics with full scan more frequently.
Try free the proc cache and see the result.

How to uninstall Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and remove its databases
Hello,
My company has Sharepoint Foundation 2010 installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2. I want to remove this server from our network. I'd like to know what are the steps to unsintall Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and remove its databases. The databases are located
on a remote machine with SQL Server 2008 R2. I'm wondering if the Sharepoint uninstall process will remove its databases from the remote server or do the databases need to be removed manually. If the databases need to be removed manually, I'd like to know
how to find out the name of the configuration, content, administration, search and user profile application databases that Sharepoint is using.
I appreciate any help that anybody can provide. Thanks!!Uninstall SharePoint via Programs and Features from the SharePoint server. Once that is done, drop/delete the databases from the SQL Server. Uninstalling SharePoint does not remove databases.
Before you uninstall SharePoint, you can run:
Get-SPDatabase | Select Name,Server
That will list all database names and their associated SQL Server/instance.

I have been digging for sometime after a web part that enables users to leave a message on the home page. I want the same fuction as i get when i create a BlogSite (there you can create posts and comments).
My first thought was to find a Web Part which will allow me to do this, but i was sort of wrong. I found some examples like this: social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/newthread?category=sharepoint&forum=sharepointgeneralprevious
Im still trying to make that work but so far no luck.
So i was wondering if there is a better way to create a function that will allow users to create posts/comments etc?
Thanks for any help!

SharePoint Foundation 2010 supported sql server version?
Hi,
I am using SharePoint 2010 Foundation. I want to know what are all the SQL Server versions would support in SharePoint 2010 Foundation.
Could anyone tell me as soon as possible.
Thanks & Regards
Poomani SankaranIt requires Windows Server 2008 SP2 or Windows Server 2008 R2. It will not run on a Server Core installation.
It requires one of these versions of x64 SQL Server:
SQL Server 2005 SP3 CU3 (Build 4220) or greater (Note: SQL Server 2005 goes out of mainstream support in April 2011)
SQL Server 2008 SP1 CU2 (Build 2714) or greater
SQL Server 2008 R2

further from msdn
In order to maintain SharePoint and SQL Server compatibility we use the “SharePoint N-1
on SQL Server N+1” equation to determine version support. Using SharePoint Foundation 2010 as an example, the N release of SQL Server is 2008/2008 R2 and N+1 is SQL Server 2012. For Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 the N release of SQL Server
is 2012 and the N+1 is SQL Server 2014.

Visual Studio 2010 and SharePoint Foundation 2010
From a development perspective, if I have a Windows 2007 Operating System and download Sharepoint Foundation 2010, can I develop web parts using Visual Studio 2010? Are there other components I need?
When we convert to SharePoint Server 2013 in production, is there a version of VS that will allow me to remotely access that server?Hi,
If your server have already installed the SharePoint Foundation 2010, we can develop web parts using Visual Studio 2010/2012/2013.
If you want to convert to SharePoint Server 2013 in production, you need use Visual Studio 2012/2013 and install Microsoft Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2012 which can be found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/eng/office-dev-tools-for-visual-studio (direct install :

Audit Trail Log for Sharepoint Foundation 2010
Hi all,
Does SharePoint Foundation 2010 have the ability to Audit user actions including opening documents, editing permsions, etc ?
What is the different with audit trail for Sharepoint 2010 and WSS 3.0?
Thank you
Rgds,I agree with Kamil Jurik. There is no auditing feature in SharePoint Foundation edition. The auditing feature is a SharePoint Enterprise feature. But yes there are free utilities on the web, like on codeplex and other. And if you are good in coding then
you may develop your own custom solution as given in a tech article:

License Question for SharePoint Foundation 2010
I have a question as it regards to the user agreement for SharePoint Foundation 2010.
When I deploy code to the front-end of the Foundation service which directly modifies the code on the front-end to make the system do anything different out of the box, does this mean I have violated the code agreement.
For instance, using JQuery to manipulate the look and feel of a form, use third party tools like SPServices, attach SharePoint Designer workflows, modify the server end by using STSADM command line to turn features on and off, create and deploy site
collection features using Visual Studio, or create web parts?
Also, if I am using this software for business purposes of any kind, does it mean I need to purchase the software?
I have received a copy of Share Foundation along with a Server 2008 R2 OS which was purchased.
IF I use Foundation to run my business processes, am I in violation of the user agreement and do I need to purchase SharePoint Server 2010 with CALs?The official answer: "I'm not a licensing person. Please contact Microsoft."
In general:
Foundation is a "free" download, but can only be installed on Windows Server. You can install Foundation 2010 on Windows 7, but only for testing/development, not as a production server.
Foundation is "free" in that it is licensed as part of the Windows Server it is installed on.
If you have 500 users, then Windows Server will need to be licensed for 500 users. The Windows Server licensing will also depend on if the users are internal or on the internet.
SQL Server: If you are using SQL Express, then no license costs, but the number of SharePoint users may impact the licensing costs of your SQL Server.
The choice between Foundation vs. Standard or Enterprise is the list of features needed and scalability (how many users?).
"JQuery, SPServices, SharePoint Designer workflows, STSADM, Visual Studio..."
None of those will impact your licensing. Anything that you do to directly query or manipulate the SQL tables will impact your support. SharePoint is a platform and you are expected to configure and customize it.

Error Creating Web Application in Sharepoint Foundation 2010.
Hi,
I am getting below error while creating new Web Application in SharePoint.
Could not connect to Sharepoint using integrated security: SQL server at has an unsupported version 10.0.2531.0.
I am using SharePoint Foundation 2010. SQL Server Version is
"Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP1) - 10.0.2531.0 (X64) Mar 29 2009 10:11:52 Copyright (c) 1988-2008 Microsoft Corporation Developer Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.2 <X64> (Build 9200: ) (VM)"
My SQLServer version is Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP1) Developer edition. How could i resolve this issue.
Thanks & Regards
Poomani SankaranHi Poomani,
Upgrade to
SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition and it will work with SharePoint Foundation 2010. Ensure that you only use this developer edition on your development server.
SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition has same code base and same features which are available in SQL Server
2008 R2 Enterprise Edition. Only difference between them is licensing terms. Developer Edition can not be used in production environment and it can be used on development server only.
