Features I'd like to see in 5th gen nano:

1. Auto brightness - Put a light sensor by the hold switch so that it dims in dark rooms or brightens outside in the sun. Also allow it to dim much darker than currently able.
2. Micro SD card slot - The cards are cheap as can be. It'd be nice to have one for movies for trips while still having a full library of music without going with one of the larger sized ipods.
3. Bluetooth - Cables are a pain. It'd be sweet to listen to the ipod that's in my pocket without having to run cable all over the place.
4. Wi-fi - Allow song sharing like the Zune and maybe even sync without connecting wires.
Any other suggestions?

How Zune does the sharing is that they allow you to beam the song to the other device then you can listen to it I think three times then it's gone. Personally, if I could do that then I would be much more inclined to buy more songs off itunes.
I wouldn't have guessed 5 years ago that I could store 100 CDs on an 1/8" thick device that also allows me to watch movies so I'd be hard pressed to say that Apple can't do something.

I can't find any link to do this. I found a page where you can request songs or an album to be added, but i can't find a page to submit my suggestions for itunes i have for new features i'd like to see

As of now there is no good, direct link for feedback on iTunes itself. Writing Apple might be the best option, with the website feedback page perhaps the next best.

With 5th gen nano, how to display album artwork during playback at all times, it stays on for a few seconds and then the screen goes black? Is there a way to play and see artwork, at all times (using with a aux. speaker)

I have a 5th gen nano, and I play it often on a aux. speaker. I would like the album artwork to display at all times while playing it here. Right now it plays for a few seconds on each song, and then goes blank. Can this be changed?

The artwork turns black or the screen's backlight turns off? If the backlight turns off, simply disable the backlight timer, but keep in mind this will significantly reduce your iPod's playback time and battery life.

Can't see 5th gen nano on hp pavillion running windows xp

Hi guys, I just got a brand new 5th gen nano (for my birthday) but when i connect it to the usb port on my pc the error message usb device not recognised comes up and i've tried all the usual ways to remidy this (the 5 R's etc). Also, when i check the drivers, all that comes up is unknown device.
PLEASE HELP as i am going mental trying to sort this out.

Boombox or Dock w/Skrs and Charger compatible with 5th Gen Nano?

So I'm trying to research devices that are COMPLETELY compatible with the 5th Gen Nano. Please don't recommend the Apple store as I do not find the compatibility information I seek (most manufacturers only claim w.r.t. music playback).
Most all 3rd party devices that are "compatible" will play 5th gen Nano music through speakers (of course - what would be the point otherwise), but if they possess a charging feature, they were designed and manufactured well before Apple changed the connector arrangement on the 5th Gen Nano, and so will not charge.
Has anyone compiled a list of devices that are compatible both in terms of music playback and charging with the 5th gens?

It's good to know someone like yourself has both 4th and 5th gen and can definitely state they charge the same (I am assuming with the same USB cable).
So - theoretically, if I find a device that will both charge a 4th gen and playback a 4th gen, it will do the same with the 5th gen? I think this is what you are implying. That is what I am hoping.
I cannot find this in writing, and I suspect some of the devices on the Apple Store will not play but NOT charge a 4th gen nano, so the same will be true of the 5th gen.
OK, price-point is less than $100... portable (plays on battery) or AC powered. WILL charge a 5th gen nano. Nice if it had a remote. OK if it has a clock. OK if it has a FM tuner (how would one use the Ipod to tune FM if the earphones were not connected (used as an antenna)?

Compatible FM Transmitter for 5th gen nano

Hello. I've tried my 5th gen nano on two different fm transmitters for car use, and a message comes on the nano's screen and says something like "charging not supported with this device", also, it will not play music over the transmitters, just the nano's internal speaker. Does anyone know of a compatible FM transmitter for this 5th gen nano?? Make and model would be appreciated. Thank you.

Since upgrading to itunes 10.5.3 6th & 5th gen Nano freeze when trying to play podcast from Audible

My 5th & 6th Gen Nano Freezes when I try to play Charlie Rose, which I get from Audible.com. On the 6th Gen Nano a grey book comes up and it locks up and has to be reset. On the 5th gen Nano it shows the playlist but when I click on Charlie Rose podcast it freezes and it too had to be reset.
What is going on????? HELP"

FM tuning on 5th gen Nano

How do you tune "even" numbered frequencies on the 5th generation Nano(like 90.4 or 88.0)? Tuning "odd" frequencies is obvious. Is it even possible? Thanks

I have a Belkin FM transmitter which I use with a 2nd Gen Nano and it also works with a 5th Gen Nano. The only difference is that I first have to put the Nano into play and then plug the FM-T. in, otherwise it doesn't work.
Hence I would assume a transmitter which worked with a 4th gen also works with a 5th gen. After all, it is all about the connector and that is always the same.

Three 5th gen nanos. One NOT recognized by itunes and computer; other 2 fine.

I have 3 daughters and three 5th gen nanos. I use the same cord, plug and computer, and one is not being recognized by itunes or computer and will not charge; other 2 fine. Something wrong with just the one. Resetting (pressing menu and center until apple appears?) doesn't work. One daughter very SAD. Please help if you can.
Oh, and I've also put it in disk mode. Still not recognized.

I think I found the problem, and it may be useful to others. I cosely looked at the dock connector next to the earphone jack and found that it has a chip in it. Not good news for Gen 5 ipod nano's. Apparently, the connector is bonded to the logic board. I did find that if I gently put pressure on it in one directio or the other, it will make a connection.
Must break the bad news to daughter. Sad face.

Hi, I also have a 5th generation iPod nano. It is very old (or at least for technology), so the issue is most likely the battery. My advise would be to buy a newer generation iPod because it would most likely take more time/money to fix the problem than the iPod is worth. Check out the refurbished section of the Apple website, the prices are typically sufficiently lower than the price of a brand new iPod, but just as good. Thats how I get all my Apple products.

By the way, I totally restored everything. It was ok. It starts to 'unrecognize' my iPod Classic when it comes to synching with iPhoto. After this happened all the menus disappeared from my iPod (music, Podcasts, movies synched fine). It seems to be a problem when synching with iPhoto. It was the same thing before.

Downloading video files directly to 5th gen nano.

I recently got a 5th gen nano (only prior iPod was a 1st gen shuffle) and was excited to put video on it. I found that, due to limited remaining disk space on my laptop, I have to delete files in order to have enough space to handle a movie download from the iTunes store. Apparently the file is saved to the laptop's disk and then transfered to the nano. Is there a way to direct the download directly to the nano? Thanks!

Simple answer, no.
You need to either buy a bigger hard drive or add another hard drive to your computer. If you delete the videos from iTunes and sync the nano to iTunes you will lose the videos on the nano.

5th gen Nano playing songs slower and with some digital "noise"

Recently I have notice my 5th gen Nano playing songs slowere and with digital "noise" when out speed walking with the pedometer on...anyone experience this and know what could be causing it?

I'm also having this issue. It started on Friday. It slowed down my music towards the middle of the song and if I change the song it is OK for a bit and then it gets the digital noise and slows down again. I have no idea what is causing it. My ipod is less than a year old. I'm going to try and reset it tomorrow I think. The trouble is driving me NUTS.

Fm tuner in 5th gen nano let you play out of car stereo?

i have an older car (2001) that does not have a jack to plug in an ipod. back in the day, with my mini, belkin made a fm tuner that could attach to mini, to listen to ipod from car stereo.
