Features to be added in asha 501

hi friends. i am using nokia asha 501. it is good in many respects like speedy scrolling and fast app load time. but still needs more enhancement. Some things i think to be fixed in coming update are as follows. PLEASE DO ADD YOUR REQUIREMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS below.
Compatible with most popular apps like whatsapp and Skype.
Able to play popular video format as flv/qt/3gp/3gpp/avi/mp4 or at least have a player.
Able to use symbian apps.
Video saving options while streaming, eliminating need of video download app.
Support multiple apps to be opened and used at once and ability to switch between them.
Able to play music while on call like that of c5-00.

After updating Asha 501 following features have finally made it. though the list of pending features still remain.
Features in
- Whatsapp, Microsoft Office Exchange
- Now an option to clear a single Fastlane entry
- The Music Library search function now does not hide a significant portion of "search results" due to the pop up of the keyboard. As a result, it's easy to view the results.
- Facebook and Twitter app seems smooth with their notifications.
- "Alarms" sound is proper for custom music selected as "alarm tone"
- YES, Support for "Alarms" to work when the phone is switched off.
Features left out
No Cut/Copy/Paste feature outside browsers for the documents viewed within them and from the app "Notes"
No feature to minimise opened apps and switch between them.
Can't delete pre-installed apps
Option for "Counters" to "Clear counters" daywise and not clear entire history to date
Support for custom "Wallpaper for home screen" to choose from Memory card/Phone Memory

Line with audio messages for Asha 501.

Line app updated with Audio messages feature and with Recently sent stickers. The app is better than previous version.

Asha 501 isn't supporter by Nokia suite, so you can't install apps from PC like any other Nokia phone.
You aren't able to access Nokia store via Wifi as well?. I would suggest a phone settings reset, you *will* lose data stored on the phone so backup before you decide to reset it.

Problem with Nokia Asha 501

I have recently purchased asha 501 the problem is after recieving few messages it does not recieve more messages for that i have to restart the phone then i can able to recieve the messages . It happen 3 to 4 times a day . it is not a network issue for that i have changed sims several times . even some time messages sent from other phones never recieved even though i have restarted phone several times and that is tested for several times .
Kindly solve that bug in the next update of nokia .

It is really difficult for me to send text messages in My nokia Asha 501.The following are the issues i am facing.Please provide updates.
A)No option to send messages to contact groups (we cant create contact group).Even the basic nokia mobile have this feature.
B)After typing the messages we need to select contacts one by one by clicking on the + sign. No option to mark many contacts to send sms at a go.(Marking of contacts is a must feature of any mobile phones but nokia ASHA 501 lacks that.)
C)i have around 500 contacts, so its difficult for me to browse through all the contacts to select the one to whom i can send the sms.Also filtering of names is not of good standard some time filtering correctly and some times not filtering correctly.
D) please concentrate on the basic features first then concentrate on applications.There is noway to delete or uninstall the use less Assasin creed demo game app that is pre installed.

Asha 501: VoIP, TLS and certificates

I've recently added sip account to my Asha 501. It works great when I use UDP or TCP transport, but when i switch to TLS it can't connect to the server. I think, this may be caused by self-signed server certificate.
So, is there a way to add my own certificates to Nokia Asha 501 ?

I am trying to use TLS in voip environment and I am in a cross roads.
The guy who manages the asterisk server sent me two certificates: One CA.crt and another User.pem.
I have been able to make the asha 311 accept the CA.crt (after changing it to a ca.der file, according to this post: http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Asha-and-other-Nokia-Series-30/HOW-TO-INSTALL-ROOT-Authority-CERTIFI...
But when I try to download the User.pem certificate, I get a message saying "no gateway reply".
So, I have two questions. ONe is, do I relly need these two certificates - is it that the asterisk guy is over complicting things?
The other is. if I need this pem file, how can I make the mobile accepct it?

Asha 501 - Radio doesn't have record option.

Hi,
I've 3 queries regading fm/radio/ring tone cutter.
1. It doesn't have the record option, does it need firmlevel updated to have such feature or just sofware..
2. In some models having FM Transmitter, even is this requires a firmware update or sofware..
3. Also, I can't see any app to cut the song file for ringtone..I've seen this app in my asha 206.

Hi,
- Afaik the record option is not available due to legal constraints.
- A "transmitter" cannot be updated with SW. It is a HW component. Asha 501 does not have a FM transmitter, it has a FM receiver.
- In terms of apps we are working to provide as many apps as possible for the new Asha Software Platform - but I cannot provide details on when and if which SW will become available.

Asha 501- can't switch between browser or music pl...

while trying to switch between the browser and music player, I can't get the same old browser page where I was left. Instead it starts frm beginning. Not only music players, if I want to check any other app or info on my mob I can't return to the same browser where I was left.
Is there any way to avoid such thing.

I just found out that Nokia Asha 501 is fully compatible with Samsung headset. You can use the full feature of Samsung headset to control music. Play, skip track, stop, increase/decrease vol., call and answer calls. cool! So trash that red thing in the box and grab a Samsung headset for a full music and call control. I tried on my S3 headset.

Asha 501- can't take call using earphone

while i'm listening to the music, I can't take the call using the earphone microphone button. Instead I need to manually swipe the screen down and answere the call.
Also, I can't switch the radio stations or audio tracks with the button on the earphone. Its very annoying.

Unable to connect to WIFI on Asha 501

My Nokia Asha 501 is not connecting to my wifi network. displays error unsupported security type? and there is no option to edit WIFI network also... Any solution for this?? Thanks in advance

LadyPink, you have to sell your phone and go for another operating system like Symbian/S60 Belle Feature Pack 2 (for example the Nokia 700), Windows Phone 8 (for example the Nokia Lumia 520) or one of the operating systems which your mates use.

Feedback to Nokia Marketing Team on Asha 501

The Asha 501 TV advt needs to show the touch screen "fluidity" much more . Also mobile phone dealers need to showcase the Asha 501 touch feature . Maybe a Asha 501 kiosk can do this.

There will be instore demos and promotions as per normal.

Nokia asha 501 with fast lane was suppose to be made with all the available features. But certainly this phone is missing some apps people use often i.e, Whatsapp and Instagram. The phone is really good,but would become much better if they launched all the good apps. I shouldn't forget Angry Birds.

Asha 501 : Whatsapp has copy to clipboard but no p...

Hi,
I'm very happy that whatsapp has come for Asha 501 with all most all the features. When I try to hold on any message it give me the option to copy the message to clipboard. But no paste option yet available.
Is this is a bug in the software or we can expect the paste option in future update.

This is actually what is happening with the rest of asha phones which don't have clipboard. Now because message text cannot be selected, whatsapp team included this copy option to copy the entire message to the clipboard. But it only works on phones which actually have in-built clipboard functionality. For the others, copied text goes nowhere and cannot be pasted.
This should start working when (and if ever) copy and paste from clipboard is enabled in the Asha 501.

Asha 501 - Problems Compiled HERE

Hello members,
I felt there should be a compilation of all the defects/problems/complains towards Asha 501 phone ONLY in one thread. Every one also adds their own observations and experience with the Asha 501 than it will be easy for the others to read and hopefully for the Nokia team to look into the complains as well.
Here is the list:
PDF Reader, MS Office Documents viewer/editor (the inbuilt app is not at all good with .xls & .ppt files to view)
No Cut/Copy/Paste feature outside browsers for the documents viewed within them and from the app "Notes"
No feature to minimise opened apps and switch between them.
Recent call logs don't display date for last 7 days other than days following past week . There is only "time" displayed for the calls last 12 hour and "name of the day ( ex: Fri, Sat or Sun )" for the last 7 days.
No option to clear a single Fastlane entry
The Music Library shows the name of the song(s) NOT as per the title of mp3's saved in the "Music Folder" of the Memory Card/Phone Memory

Your suggestions are good food for thought, but I think some of them are not realistic, at least for the current generation of Asha devices...
Others would be nice improvements, though.

3 - this is an OS limitation, not likely to change
6 - agreed, they should fix it
7 - agreed, they should fix it
8 - this is the same for example non-rooted android devices, not likely to change
9 - agreed, they should fix it
10 - agreed, it would be nice to have. As a workaround, if you put your phone to flight mode, the alarm will still activate but the phone will use considerably less power.
11 - agreed, they should fix it
12 - this would be nice to have
13 - powering off the screen during conversation is a power saving feature, your suggestion has questionable benefit. Besides, most people are not capable of sensing light with their ears Automatic screen poweron would require a proximity detector (plus hardware omitted due to cost-saving).
14 - the two javas are different and not compatible. The phone has J2ME (Mobile java), the websites use desktop java (J2SE).
15 - it would be nice to have
17 - flash seems to be less and less supported, even deprecated on most mobile platforms. I don't think it'll come.
18 - this is likely due to a technical limitation (either device heap size or bandwidth consideration on the supporting background services - since Nokia email is proxied)
19 - this is possible to implement by a third party but not part of other mobile OSes, either

Asha 501 Security Vulnerability

Where can i report a Security Vulnerability in nokia asha 501...??Its Vulnerability bypasses lock code to access call logs as well as make calls. even if its locked wih security code.

I think that's a feature rather than a bug.
To reproduce you just set up a lock code for when you lock the screen, then type any number on the unlock screen, press the SOS button, then the green phone button and you're sent to the recent calls log.
One thing that a locked out user shouldn't be able to do is set or unset a contact as favourite imo. You can do this by tapping any entry on the call log, then tapping the name of the contact that appears at the top and then the star at the right. You shouldn't be able to see more info about the contact other than the number and the call info when the phone is locked up (that is, nothing should happen the first time you tap on the contact's name).

Asha 501: A2dp works on asha platform?

Hi,
I just want to know whether we can expect a2dp(play songs via bluetooth device) in the asha platform. Is it the new asha platform not supporting it?
Or else Nokia is trying to push its users to the LUMIA version of mobile. Even the basic phones are supporting this feature now a days.

I can only guess because that bug could be anything (even the Bluetooth name of your phone could be a problem, something in the profile records, it could be a tiny bit).

Version should not matter either, that is the design of Bluetooth. Furthermore, there are a lot of A2DP 1.0 devices out there, I bet they work with your Volvo.

Well, I guess it is the same, at least my Nokia Asha 503 behaves very much the same as my Nokia Asha 501. Or stated differently: I have not found a difference, yet. Why do you not go for a Lumia?
