Fed up of Lion problems I want to go back to Leopard

I have installed Lion and I am not happy with it. Main reason it has slowed my MBP 2010 and worst battery life.
I want to go back to Leopard but I have doubt that do I need to install my paid application again? Or all the Lion applications will be available in Leopard.
Please guide.

  • This is terrible. I want to go back to Leopard NOW! PLEASE HELP ME!

Hey I have a 15" MacBook Pro. I recently installed Snow Leopard and I despise it. Nothing is different. Everything is slower, not faster. Also, my brother's favorite game, ToonTown, no longer works. I want to go back to Leopard, but according to what I can tell, it's impossible without having backed up your Mac. I didn't want to buy some $200 Time Capsule, and I heard Time Machine was slow, so that's why I haven't backed up my Mac. Anyways, there has got to be a way to go back. Is there any way at all? On flash websites safari lags terribly too. Please tell me how to go back. I'll lose all my data if I need to. This is the worst update I've ever seen. (Btw I have the Leopard disk that came with my Mac)
Message was edited, sorry i put "box", I meant Time Capsule.

Boot the Leopard DVD. Choose Custom Install. Choose Archive & Install. After you are happy, delete the old system.
If you do not have suffient free space, then get something like OmniDiskSweeper (free download), find some wasted space, and delete it (but only delete stuff you know what it is, not some files that you find in /library or /system)
As for backup, you should, as hard drives do die at the most unexpected times. And Time Machine is not slow, especially after the first full copy is made, and you can use your own external USB disk, which you can easily pick up for approx $100 or less (try searching on DealMac.com).
But if you do not like TimeMachine, there is always SuperDuper (hightly recommended) and Carbon Copy Cloner (also hightly recommended).

  • Bought iMovie '11 for a Mountain Lion iMac and want iMovie '11 for snow Leopard MacBook but it won't download for Macbook?

    Hello:
I have an iMac that I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion.  I bought iMovie '11 after upgrading to Mountain Lion.  I also have a MacBook Pro but don't want to upgrade to Mountian Lion 'cause I don't want to loose Front Row.  So I tried to buy and install iMovie from the App Store on the MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) but when I try to buy it it says that I can't buy it or run on on Snow Leopard it must be on Mountain Lion?  Is there any way to get the down version of iMovie '11 for Snow Leopard from the App Store?  I already paid for this version online.
    Thanks,
    mn3

My guess is that you are out of luck. The latest requirements for iMovie '11, as listed on the App Store, are "OS X 10.7.4 or later". In other words, iMovie '11 (in it's latest iteration) will work only on Lion or Mountain Lion (or later).
My wife's iMac is on Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8 and is running iMovie '11 version 9.0.4. Checking for updates returns the message that iMovie is up to date. So it appears that the last version to run on Snow Leopard is 9.0.4 - hence why you can't download 9.0.8 to Snow Leopard from the App Store. Perhaps you can purchase a boxed version of iLife '11 somewhere (possibly eBay) that has an earlier version of iMovie '11.

  • Hate Lion grey icons, want to get back colored icons

Just switched (a test on a seperate HD) to Lion.  Like most people I use customised colored Icons as part of navigating quuickly.  In the sidebare it is all boringly gray.
I seen some of the discussions about this hot topic but found no permanaet solutions.  Anybody know any?

    I also wanted colours back!!
I got this from a colleague: go to http://osxdaily.com/2011/08/25/get-color-sidebar-icons-back-in-mac-os-x-10-7-lio n-finder-windows/
    These are the steps:
Download and install SIMBL, which you can get here
Download the ColorfulSidebar SIMBL plugin (direct link) or visit the developers home and mount the DMG file
Move the ColorfulSidebar.bundle into the following SIMBL plugin folder:
    ~/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/
Either login and logout of Mac OS X, or just kill the Finder through the Terminal to relaunch it:
    killall Finder
Works like a charm, I'm a happy -colourful- Maccer again!

    Hi,
Have you tried your country's online Apple Store?  Snow Leopard is still available on mine, here in the UK.  Otherwise, your best chance is eBay.  You might also try CeX.

  • I want to go back to Mountain Lion please?

Just installed Mavericks this week and I am more than underwhelmed (by that I mean I hate it). I need to get my google chrome back. Does anyone know how to get me back to where my computer worked right?

Without a doubt you don't want to use Chrome with OS X. It's a resource hog and prone to crashing the system. Please stick with Safari to avoid problems.
If you want your computer "back where it worked right" then erase it and reinstall your previous OS. It might be easier and less painful to do this:
Disconnect all peripherals except the standard keyboard and mouse. Disable all third-party peripherals and their software. This includes Chrome.

  • Lion problem

I am beyond the point of frustration at the moment.  I installed Lion and I am getting nothing but problems.  Every application I use stalls and stalls to where I can't get anything done.  Safari is horrible.  I can't go from one webpage to another with out 30 seconds of stalling.  Anyway to fix this or do I have to wait for an update from apple.  I do not want to downgrade back to snow leopard.
Instead of this roaring like a lion, its meowing like a sick little kitty.

I also am having the same issue & lets see if I can shed a little light on it.
I've noticed the pinwheels in several varying circumstances & my guess is they aren't all related.
    1) It appears as though when typing any text in a text field on a web page or in an e-mail the system frequently hangs for a minute or so but then continues.  My guess is this has to be either spell check (my iPhone has similar issue from time to time, turning off spell check fixes it) or it is something with the versions feature, leaning spell check.
    2) When performing network actions this doesn't usually hang the system but the first time I perform an action requiring network from any application it always pauses for a moment before continuing.  Subsequent actions seem to be just fine.
    3) Several built in apps including Safari & Apple Mail appear to have memory leak issues, especially with certain plugins.  Flash is one of note that has already been confirmed.  I found that uninstalling flash helped a great deal (though not totally).  What's really strange is even when not running any flash I still noticed a big difference from when I had removed it vs having it installed but not using the browser.
I am currently running a flash beta, which seems to have helped quite a bit but not completely.
    4) My Mac happens to be bound to a domain, I know this isn't common for everyone, and since moving to Lion authentication has been increadibly slow.  It used to be fast on domain but slow at home with cached login on Snow Leopard but now it is opposite.
In the process of troubleshooting I tried unbinding my machine & re-binding it.  2 things of note, 1 I can't unbind from Open Directory (machine is dual bind) because it claims it can't reach the server but I also can't force an unbind.  Funny thing is the bind shows green & it is getting policies correctly so the server is obviously responding.  When I unbound from Active Directory & bound it again it bound itself twice to AD, very weird.
Overall the system has been very stable for me, meaning if I'm patient enough to wait 5 or 10 minutes it has always come back from a freeze.  I don't always have 5 or 10min to just throw away so it is quite frustrating.  I hope Apple fixes this stuff soon & doesn't wait until the release of iOS 5 where they will end up throwing in a whole slew of bugs with the new fixes.  What would be really nice, for any company & not just Apple, is if they had 2 releases.  One release for just patches, and then a separate release introducing features.  Some of us want things to just be fixed & don't need new unknowns added to the system.

When submitting a target survey I get back an error.... I think this may be a safari problem or mountain lion problem as I used to be able to submit surveys on their survey site.  This problem occurs if I use my MacBook Pro or my iPad.  I want try  to win a 5000 gift card and can't win if I can't submit the survey.  It lets me fill out everything and only after I hit submit I receive an error.  Target says it's not their problem.  I curious to know if anyone else has tried and receive back an error after hitting the submit button.

Thanks.....I'll try that the next time I get a new receipt from target.  My old receipts are older than 72 hours now so I can't try Firefox with them.  I appreciate the response and will certainly try this and post a reply if I was successful in submitting the target survey.

  • I can't install Mac OS X Lion, I want to go back to Snow Leopard

The problem is I am stuck in the OS X Lion Install window but when I try to install it, it asks for my Apple ID, I give it but It says I haven't bought Lion. So I gave up and decided to just go back to Snow Leopard, how do I do that?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Have you purchased OS X Lion? If so, check that it's not hidden in your Apple ID, so unhide it > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US Finally, you will be able to reinstall Lion.
If you want to go back to Snow Leopard, your Mac should have come with DVDs or a USB drive. If your computer came with a USB drive, just insert the USB drive, hold the Option (Alt) key while your computer is starting, choose the USB drive and reinstall Snow Leopard. You may have to erase the hard drive before installing it.
If your Mac came with DVDs, you need an external optical drive or another PC or Mac to use Remote Install Mac OS X

  • Big OS X Lion problem

I bought a 21.5" iMac from Best Buy 8 days ago and just noticed that it was still running 10.6.8, Snow Leopard.
Annoyed by this, I looked around the app store and stuff to see if OS X Lion was even downloaded or anything.
Then I get a notice about an available update - One that will upgrade me from 10.7.0 to 10.7.1.
The problem? I have to log into an account that doesn't belong to me, [email protected]
I called Geek Squad and they said I should be able to install Lion from my account then upgrade from there, but nope.
I have projects to work on and really don't want to have to leave my Mac there for them to work on. What can I do?

Hopefully someone on this forum will be able to help you, but Community Connectors don't work on the weekends. My big OS X Lion problem was different than yours. I also bought a 21.5" iMac from Best Buy, and did a happy dance when I found out that I could get Lion free based on my iMac purchase date. I only used Lion for about a week though, then rolled my iMac back to Snow Leopard. A small thing was that Front Row was gone in Lion, and I use that program every once in a while. No deal breaker though. What I really didn't like was the Auto-Save feature that has no way to be turned off. I would rather make the decision of when I want changes to a document to be saved, and not turn that decision over to my OS. Also, opening a text file that hadn't been opened for a while and having to click 'unlock'? That just seemed silly. Good luck with Lion if you want it and/or when you get it, but I'm sticking with Snow Leopard as long as possible.

  • Can't add a new event to iCal on my iMac - but the event sync's to my iPad - is this a Lion problem? iCloud is on.

Can't add a NEW EVENT to my iCal on my iMac- however the event is sync'd to my iPad with no problem. iCloud is turned on for iCal. Is this a Lion problem or something turned pff. I cannot find an answer. Help?
    Williamfronsc

    William,
It is a possibility that you are adding new events to your "On My Mac" calendars.
"On My Mac" calendars will not sync with iCloud. After backing up the "On My Mac" calendars, and ensuring that all events are duplicated on your iCloud calendars you can delete any "On My Mac" calendars.
For further troubleshooting advice read iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Calendar.
