Fed up with resetting my BT Home Hub 3 and it's so...

I keep having to reset my BT Home Hub 3 because of problems with wireless connections.
The Hub is close to all the equipment.
I have lots of things connected to it:
-          iPhones - Slow not much better that 3G
-          Blackberrys
-          Macbook - Very fast
-          2 Dell Laptops - Slow
-          New model Panasonic TV – Viera ST50 Series – Has Wireless inbuilt – New this year - Slow + buffering problems
-          Sky Box connected via Netgear WN2000RPT Wifi Range Extender - Slow + buffering problems
-          Hard wired PC - Very fast
All worked fine with my old Netgear Router (before I changed to BT).
When I first had this Hub (it’s my 2nd) all was OK for a couple of weeks.
After a while (usually a few days after resetting BT Home Hub) the older Dell Laptop will keep losing its connection.   Once the problem starts the laptop might last for 5 or 10 minute intervals, lose connection and then automatically reconnect, etc, etc.
I'm will to accept that the Laptop is old, but when the Laptop is playing up the TV plays up too.    The Internet on the TV’s also fails.
The answer is to reboot the BT Home Hub.   The Laptop and TV are then both OK (for a few days).
I’m getting fed up with resetting the Hub.   Especially as it has dropped out while watching online TV.
All the other devices appear OK (maybe slow but remain connected).   Only the older laptop and the TV actually lose connection.   But resetting the BT Hub fixes the problem for a few days.   So the hub is at fault.
Recently I’ve been getting other problems.   Now whenever I need to reset the BT Home Hub I need to disconnect the Netgear WN2000RPT.   If I don’t  disconnect the Netgear the BT Home Hub appears to start up and connect OK and everything appears to connect to the Hub OK.  But then none of the Internet content works.   Websites don’t work, TV reports no content.
Now whenever I reset the BT Home Hub I must first turn off the Netgear WN2000RPT.   Previously this never used to be a problem.
In case compatibility with the Netgear WN2000RPT is an issue I now usually leave it unplugged.   I only turn it on for Internet content from Sky.
But the problems described above continue even when Netgear WN2000RPT is turned off.
When playing up the Laptop sometimes shows “Unsecure Connection”.  I wonder if it’s picked up the BT FON connection (but it shows the normal connection).    I suspect the start of the problems may have coincided with the activation of BT FON on the box (could this have taken 2 weeks?).   I’m sure that it was BT FON that completely broke my first BT Home Hub 3, we had had it about a week, then wifi would not connect from anything, after hours on the phone to BT support we could not establish a wireless connection to the Hub, but strangely all was OK on the FON connection.
We have BT Infinity.
Hub is generally slow.   Wired Internet is lightning fast.   New Macbook (using Chrome) via wifi is lightning fast.   Everything else disappointingly slow.   TV and Sky both have buffering issues.
Any ideas?

The HH3 has the ability to hop around the various Wireless Channels (of which there are 14, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels for indepth info) to enable the hub to pick the best channel for you, taking into account any cordless phones, mobile phones, microwaves etc, all of which could interfere with your wireless signal.
By reseting you HH3 you are forcing it back to its factory default channel (Channel 7 I guess).  Over a period of days, the HH3 may decide that its default channel isn't the most appropriate and select another channel based on what interference it 'sees'- clearly if it gets this wrong (as my HH3 did) then you potentially get wireless reception issues.
Consequently, I decided to manually find out what the best channel was by install a wireless scanner (free @ http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/), then:
1.  Manually change the HH3 Channel (via its settings)
2.  Check the wireless reception 'power' using inSSider installed on the laptop around your house, ie next to your TV etc.
3.  When you find the channel that gives you the best wireless reception, tell the HH3 to remain on that Channel by disabling the 'Smart Wireless' feature (there's some info on this @ http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32236/~/how-do-i-change-the-wireless-channel-on-my-bt...)
As I say, my HH3's range was useless until I forced it to stick to a set Channel, now I have reliable coverage all around the house.  Hope this is some help.

  • Airport Express with BT Home Hub and Xbox 360

    Hi,
I know this is kind of an out there question, but im looking into buying an airport express and i was wondering if there was a way that the Airport express could connect to my existing wireless network (BT Home Hub) and share that internet connection over ethernet to my xbox 360.
My xbox is in another room and i cannot connect it to the router. I have been reading about WDS and client mode but it all goes over my head. can anyone explain if this is possible with the airport express even though i dont have an apple base station?
Im also wondering if Airtunes would work for my speaker system. Any help is appreciated!

    Welcome to the discussions!
"i was wondering if there was a way that the Airport express could connect to my existing wireless network (BT Home Hub) and share that internet connection over ethernet to my xbox 360."
Possibly. You would need to check to see if the BT Home Hub was compatible with what is called ProxySTA. Otherwise, the ethernet port on the Express will not function.
WDS would not be compatible with your BT. Even if it were, the wireless network bandwidth would be reduced by 50%. Not what you want for gaming.
Assuming your BT is a router with ethernet ports, you absolute best connection for any application, but especially gaming is an ethernet cable.
If this is not feasible, look at ethernet power line adapters. One adapter plugs into the AC socket at the router end and the other plugs into an AC socket near the 360. The adapters use the AC wiring in your home to transport the ethernet signal. This is almost as good as a straight ethernet cable and far better than wireless for gaming.
The Express would be able to join the wireless network of the BT router for use with AirTunes.

  • I have recently changed my bt home hub and now my airport express won't connect to it? Any suggestions?

I have recently changed my bt home hub and now my airport express won't connect to it? Any suggestions?

Anytime you change out a modem or modem router like the HomeHub, the AirPort Express needs to be reset back to factory default settings and then set up again.
The reason for this is that the Express is retaining some or all of the settings to connect to your "old" modem or hub, so it will not work correctly with a new device unless you start over again from factory default settings on the Express.
Power up the Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the side of the Exprsss for 8-10 seconds, then release and allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Now, set up the Express again, like you did originally with the "old" modem or hub that you had previously.

  • BT Infinity Home Hub and and BT DECNET digital cor...

I have just had BT infinity installed last week. All appears to be well on the broadband front but not so with the telephony side. The engineer installed the master socket in the study where both the phone line and data line are connected onto the outside wall and directly out to the external cable pair connected to the pole, so no complicated wiring.
I have a BT Diverse 6350 corded (Base Station) and cordless handset (DECT) telephone. The base station is situated in the same location as the Home Hub and the cordless phone is situated downstairs.
    i) Before BT Infinity was installed incoming and outgoing calls to DECT phone OK
ii)  After BT Infinity installed incoming calls received to DECT phone and answered OK but the originating end (caller) cannot hear speech . The called person can hear speech OK. Outgoing calls from the cordless handset appear to be working .
I suspect this may have something to do with the channel frequency of the Home Hub3  and the BT DECT phone but I cannot be seure. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue would be most welcome.
    Many Thanks

First thing that came to mind.... but am sure isn't the problem however have you made sure the MUTE isn't on on the Dect phone?
Edit ...If mute was on all the time then the outgoing calls wouldn't work as well so it can't be that.
If you are wondering about the HH3  "something to do with the channel frequency of the Home Hub3"
You can TURN OFF the HH3 wireless signal and then try things.
    Click on http://bthomehub.home/
Then settings and enter your password.
Then advanced settings.... continue to advanced settings.
    Then Wireless tab.
Tick the NO for wireless Enable and at the bottom right of the page click apply.
If that cures it you can then reinstate the wireless and using channel selection move it from Automatic onto a selected channel.
INNSIDER is useful to identify a clear channel.

  • BT Home Hub and Airport Express Issues

    Hello all
I am having major issues setting up my airport express to my home hub and also setting up Time Capsule to join my wireless network...
I really need a step by step guide if possible.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks
    PC

    Welcome to the discussions!
You told us that you were having "major issues", but did not tell us specifically how you are trying to configure the AirPort Express, or what service you want it to perfrom on your Home Hub network, so providing a step by step guide is not possible without a bit more information.
Can you clarify on this, please?
In regards to configuring your Time Capsule to "join" the Home Hub wireless network, do you understand that the ethernet ports on the Time Capsule are not enabled in this type of configuration, so you will not have the option to back up large files or make initial backups using an ethernet connection?
In order for the Time Capsule to "join" the wireless network provided by the Home Hub router, you willl need to know (or be able to locate) the exact type of wireless security settings that your Home Hub is using. The Time Capsule must be provided with this information in order for it to "join" the wireless network successfully.
Can you provide this information, or if you do not know, check with your service provider to obtain this information? We cannot proceed with the configuration until we have this information.
If you are able to locate the Time Capule near your Home Hub and establish a permanent ethernet connection between the Home Hub and Time Capsule, you will be able to backup using the Home Hub wireless network and also have the option to backup using ethernet if you wish. In addition, this type of installation is much simpler to configure (and more reliable in operation in my experience) and we would not need to know the type of wireless security that the Home Hub uses if you choose this setup option.
Please post back when you have an opportunity.

  • I am using BT Broadband home hub and want to use my time machine - Can I turn the wireless router off in TM?

    Hi,
I have BT home hub which is now my main router in the house.  I also have Apple TV which works off the router and a network adapter around the house which is perfect for all my needs.  However, I also have a time machine but haven't used it for a while now as it's internal router overrides my current network which causes problems.
Being that i'm not very 'technical' I was hoping someone could give me a  'guide for dummies' instruction on how to turn off the wireless signal inside my time capsule without messing up the BT router?
    Many thanks in advance
    Alex

    Thanks guys,
Sorry, just to clarify, I need to connect the ethernet cable to my home hub and my TC first before i can do this?
And once i've done this will my stuff be backed up via the cable or wireless?
I know these are probably very stupid questions but like I said, i'm a div when it comes to this stuff!

    Hi, beth.lau.gr.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand you have been experiencing issues with your iPhone restarting and showing you a blue screen.  I wont be able to give you an exact answer as to why this is happening.  However, this is the most relevant troubleshooting article for this issue.  This article also provides options to reach out to us via phone for additional assistance.

  • Ipod touch wont load past apple screen. I have tried resetting by holding home button and on/off but after it resets it still only loads to the apple screen. When I plug the device in It stays on the apple screen and itunes does not recognize it?

Ipod touch wont load past apple screen. I have tried resetting by holding home button and on/off but after it resets it still only loads to the apple screen. When I plug the device in It stays on the apple screen and itunes does not recognize it? I fear it may be stuck in some sort of reset loop which is stopping itunes from recognizing it. How do I go about the process of sending it in to apple if I cannot find a fix? Thank you in advance, it is greatly appreciated!!

    - See if placing the iPod in Recovery mode will allow a restore.
    - If not successful and you can't turn the iPod fully off (that is required to place in recovery mode), then let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try the reset, restore again
    - Then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apples store.

  • Problems with BT infinity Home hub and Apple TV

I've just changed over from Sky Broadband to BT Infinity. Broadband speed is about 37 which is fine and when using the Apple TV I have no problems connecting to the Internet for youtube or downloading films but I cannot access my music or films on my Computer in iTunes. It doesn't show up at all under Computer on the Apple TV. Homesharing is turned on and all worked perfectly OK before when using the Sky Router.
Are there some settings which I need to put in the home hub to allow access to my computer and/or iTunes ?

I has a similar problem recently with my Apple TV not picking up changes to my network until I had reset it by using the remote and pressing "menu" and "down" for 6 seconds described here.

  • Home Hub and RJ45? not working correctly

Recently i had a few problems with the Wireless on the Home Hub 3, so i switched and used an RJ45 and boy my speeds shot from 30-40mbs to 77mbs i was all happy, then the upload part of the speed test came along and it spent forever trying to do an upload test then came back error.  I refreshed the page and no internet or webpage would load, so i trouble shoot the network and it works again so i try again and the same thing happens any time i try to upload my connection drops from the hub and i have to troubleshoot to fix the problem, i heard somewere that the homehub is funny with an RJ45 =/ i am not wanting to go back to wireless scince the i get faster on a RJ45 is their a way to fix this Issue ?

    Hi
All 5 PCs, the vision box & printer here are hard wired using Cat5 cable & RJ45 connectors and in 6 years we have never had a problem.
I make my own cables and they are a bit fiddley, so despite looking fine the pins don't always connect properly and you get all sorts of issues especially if the cable moves.
My recommendation would be that you firstly change the cable, preferably to one that you know works properly.
    Regards
    Tim

  • BT Broadband - Red Flashing Light on Home Hub and ...

(Posting on behalf of a friend).
    Good morning,
Having recently got a the latest home hub (recieved as part of upgrade to broadband package) I currently do not have a working broadband connection. Have been unable to get BT on the phone so posting here (hopefully for a resolution).
The Homehub 5 goes through its start up procedure then goe straight to a flashing red light. It has been installed just over a month and was working at the start of this time.
We have tried leaving it to cool down, removing the phones so only the broadband is plugged in and even resetiing it through the procedure identified in the help documentation. Each time, the same result.... flashing red light!
According to the BT website, the flashing red broadband light means probelm with the broadband line. Is there anything we can do on our end or should we try BT again?
    Thanks in advance,
    K.

  • BT Home Hub and Airport Express

Although the BT Home Hub is 'Mac' compatible, there is still little information on using it with Airport networks. I hope that the following makes sense (I am no expert) and is useful?
Connect the Airport Express via Ethernet cable to the Ethernet 1 port of the Home Hub
    Open Airport Admin Utility
    Airport Tab>Base Station>enter a base station name
    Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Mode>Create a Wireles Network(Home Router)
    Airport Tab>Airport Network>Name>enter a network name
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Security>enter your preferred security level and ensure it matches the Home Hub security level
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Channel>choose the same channel as your hub, do not use automatic
    Airport Tab>Airport Network>Create a closed network>leave this unchecked
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Mode>if you have a mix of 11b and 11g cards leave the mode at 892.11b/g Compatible
Airport Tab>Airport Network>Wireless Options>leave these alone if you want to avoid problems
    Internet Tab>Connect Using>Airport (WDS)
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>MAC Address>enter the MAC address of the Home Hub(i.e the primary WDS base station
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>MAC Address>tick the box Also allow wireless client computers
Internet Tab>Configure WDS Host>Configure>Using DHCP>the IP address will be assigned in the range 192.168.1.6*and the Subnet mask should read 255.255.255.0 and Router address should be 192.168.1.254
    Network Tab>Uncheck Distribute IP addresses
WDS Tab>Enable this base station as a WDS>check this box>from the drop down list choose>remote base station
WDS Tab>Allow wireless clients on this base station>check this box
WDS Tab>Main AirPort ID> enter the MAC address of the Home Hub or use Select to scan for the Home Hub wireless network and you should pick up the MAC address etc automatically
    Click to Update these settings.
Go to bthomehub.home and ensure that you have WDS dis-ABLED in the settings. You will have to log on as admin (password is defaulted to ‘admin’, but it is worth changing it!).
To do this after logging on as admin go to>Home Network>Interfaces>WLAN At this point you should be presented with Wireless Access Point click on Configure (top right) Scroll down the screen that follows and click Configure WDS and you will be presented with the Wireless screen. Click Scan for wireless access points. The BT Home hub will scan for available networks and once it has found these you should click apply but DO NOT ENABLE WDS! Click back from this screen to Home Network and you should see your wireless Mac(s) and their various connections
Best wishes and hope this works for you! My iMac/Mac Mini and PowerMac G4 now connect perfectly through the Airport Express and I have extra Extreme and Dual Ethernet Airports for printer and Windows file sharing. I am running OS X 10.4;10.3 and 10.2 variously without seeming conflict. Airport firmware is 6.3

I have now changed settings as you advised from WDS to Ethernet for the Express>BT Home Hub connection.
I know from previous posting that the ABS Snow does not support WDS.
Hers is what I want to achieve, however so far, with the exception of the Mac Mini (untested/unconfigured for use with Extreme)it all works?:-
Power PC 400 AGP OS 10.2.8>Airport Extreme PCI Card>Wirelessly connect via Express(connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
Mac Mini 1.4 OS 10.3.6>Ethernet>ABS Extreme>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
iMac G4 Flat panel OS 10.4>Airport Original Card>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
Samsung PC Windows XP(SP2)>802.11G Card>Wirelessly connect via Express (connected via Ethernet to BT Home Hub)
All four of the above connect to the ABS Snow on a separate wireless network for file sharing and printing.(I set this up via help/info from the discussion forum and given it works without hiccup have left it as it is!)
Hope this helps and any further assistance/advice is appreciated-I am keen to get it right since the BT Home Hub is relatively new-UK based Home Hub forums http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=77

  • BT home hub and broadband issues please help!!

This **** thing is driving me crazy.
To get broadband in my house we have to go with BT so signed up about a week and a half ago and got sent a home hub 3.
the thing connected up ok but the flaming internet connection drops out every 5 to 10 mins and its **bleep** annoying.
anyway a couple of days into the contract and the first home hub packs up, phone bt and am on with their broadband technician who i can barely understand for 30 minutes when he decides that the home hub is broke so he send out a new one a few days later......
connect that one up and its exactly the same dropping internet connection all the time and with a day and a half that home hub packed up too!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so i spent another 30 mins on the phone to bt again, no sorry nothing, send me another home hub so thats the third one in under 2 weeks and ive only had it connected for an hour or so and its dropping internet connection about every 5 mins.
    effing rubbish
anything i can do ??? cant put up with this for 12 months!!!

  • CC is stuck with spinning 'wait' icon - Home, Files and Fonts  App tab is ok

Ever since I installed cc I have not had anything but a spinning 'wait' wheel for 'home', 'files' or 'fonts' tabs.  The 'Apps' tab is fine and can install and update the applications just fine.  I was reading the forum this morning looking for a reason for this.  I decided to try and move my 'Files' location under the setting area and chose another directory to see if it would get the 'files' tab working.  (I don't have any files in the original so I am not worried about losing any files)  Now the CC app is stuck in 'Moving Creative Cloud Files Folder...' mode and I don't have any access to the other tabs at all.  I am using Windows 7.    I have included a image of what I am seeing.  I have tried closing down the app and restarting it but it keeps coming up with the below screen each time.  Please help.

Ok, I have fixed the above screen shot dilema and have my CC application working again.  Had to kill the process and restart the application.  But, I still get the circle icon for the HOME, FILES, and FONTS tabs.  BEHANCE tabs seems to be working ok.  Here is a shot of that one:  Again, the Apps and Behance tabs work fine.  Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?  I have gone into Preferences/General/Account and signed out and signed back in but it did not change anything.
    Thanks everyone.
