Federated Portal Remove Delta Links

I have two portals running Netweaver 04S running SP10.   I have them up as a federated portal.  I cannot however copy items as remote delta links in the Portal Content Catalog.   I can do a regular copy but not the delta link.  What am I missing?   I am at SP 10.  Thanks

Lee,
Do you mean that you used "Copy" from the producer portal's PCD and "Paste as Local Content" on the consumer portal's PCD? That's what I do, but I'm receiving a "string out of bounds: 7" error on all URL iViews copied this way. The iView previews just fine on the producer, but gives this error when previewed on the consumer.

  • Transporting Remote Delta Links--Primary versus Producer Alias

I am having difficultly transporting iViews that are Remote Delta Links.  In the target consumer portal, the delta links iviews import as broken.  According to the SAP documentation, an indentical "producer alias" must be created in the source and target consumer portals.
Currently, I have created the producers in the consumer with specific instance names.  Specifically, in my consumer DEV portal, the producer is created as "BWDEV".  In my consumer QC portal, the producer is created as "BWQC".  As a result, SAP created a "primary alias" of "BWDEV" and "BWQC" in DEV and QC, respectively.
    My question is this:
Are the "producer alias" and the "primary alias" two names for the same object?  A "primary alias" is automatically created when the producer is created, and it matches the name of the producer entered.  In order to transport this content, do I need to create my producers with generic (non-instance) names such as "BW"?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin.
Are the "producer alias" and the "primary alias" two names for the same object?
Generally speaking, it is true. You can create additional aliases, but only when instructed to do so in the documentation or by an SAP support person (additional aliases are currently intended for internal SAP usage). Thus for a customer "producer alias" means "primary alias".
A "primary alias" is automatically created when the producer is created, and it matches the name of the producer entered.
It matches the producer ID if the alias is not already used by another system in your portal (refer to [help.sap.com|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/43/2280c70d21400ee10000000a11466f/frameset.htm])
In order to transport this content, do I need to create my producers with generic (non-instance) names such as "BW"?
    Yes, for sure.

  • Federated Portal Network FPN: exception Remote Delta Links rdl

    Consumer Portal version: 7.01 SP2
    Producer Portal version: 7.00 SP15
I always receive an exception when i try to preview a remote delta link.
I think I've setted up correctly the trust relationship between my portals. Because when I log on to my consumer portal and I open the producer portal in the same browser I don't need to give my user credentials. This is a simple test to see if the the trust relationship is working...
In the portal content studio I'm able to see my portal producers and their content. There is also no problem to copy for eg. an url iView from my producer to the portel content of my consumer portal as local content. when I try to preview my iView I receive a runtime error!
Anyone who'd like to share some ideas? Known issues?
    Thanks

I've posted my solution in this thread:
Re: Federated Portal Network FPN: exception Remote Delta Links rdl
    My problem is already solved!
    Thanks anyway,

  • Federated  Portal - ESS/MSS remote content copy / remote delta link mode

    Hello,
We have established an Federated Portal Network between two Enterprise Portal systems.
The Consumer System is an Netweaver Enterprise Portal, the Producer also an Enterprise Portal installation + XSS.
We use remote role assignment and remote delta link functionality between this two systems.
We have an request to enable BI JAVA Iviews on the consumer and as transitive content sharing is not provided, we would like to copy the ESS/MSS roles as remote content copy/remote delta links from the producer XSS system to the consumer system.
When we try to copy the ESS or MSS roles the copy process end with the following error message :
"Due to an unexpected error the action will be canceled"
The remote content copy/remote delta link usage mode is working correct on other roles
Is this a restiction that ESS/MSS roles can not be used in remote delta link mode ?
Is there an workaround for such usage type ?
    Thank you

  • Problem- Create Remote Delta link in Federated Portal Network environment

    Dear Experts,
I am working in a Fedeated protal network environment where the producer is  BI 7.0 Portal and the EP portal is the consumer.
FPN was already configured at client side and some reports were already integrated .
Now i am working to integrate some other BI reports and need to work on PCD  ( creating iviews/pages/worksets/roles )..for integrating the BI reports.
I followed to create th remote delta link for content of producer  in the consumer portal as following .
1.In consumer portal i navigated to the  Portal catalog of NetWeaver Content Producers
2 .Browse the Portal Catalog of the remote producer and then, choose Copy.
3.Right-click a folder in conusmer local Portal Catalog (in the Portal Content root folder) and then choose Paste as Local Content.
While perfoming third step i am getting following error
"*Could not create remote delta link to object'pcd:portalcontent/com.analog.analog/hcm_bi_reports/iviews/basic_reports/com.analog.cost_center_report'Could not connect to producer portal. Please check that the producer portal is running, there are no network problems, and your consumer settings for the producer are configured properly_* "
Producer potal is already in running mode and producer content is get dispalying in consumer portal under NetWeaver Content Producers.
Could any body help me what might be the problem.
i would appriciate if you replied for the same.
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi,
Could you try to set the log level ALL for com.sap.portal.fpn and its subtree (From log configurator service in Visual Administration)?
Then see the log messages in the default.trc logs and possibly post them to this threads.

  • Remote Delta Link vs Direct Link - Federated Portal

Hi, We couldn't get our Remote Delta Links to work on our Enterprise Portal so we just built a direct link to our IViews.  This link goes through the Enterprise Portal and to the IView on the BI Portal. (Points to the Producer on the Consumer) This works great.  My only question is if I can build a direct link to my IViews what is the benefit of Remote Delta Links that became available as of SPS10?  Just a shorter link?
    Thanks!

Yes it is a 'shorter' link doing it direct, however it is more flexible to use a remote delta link (when making changes).  You also get the benefit of user personalisations being attached to the view on the consumer portal  (rather than the producer).  Its slightly cleaner when it comes from transporting or cloning a whole PCD as well.  Thats is my basic understanding anyway

  • Problem in Remote Delta Links in Federated Portal

    Hi experts,
I am trying the federated portal content usage modes. My producer and consumer are EP7 and SP13.
I have done the Setting up trust both the side.
I have created Netweaver content Producer, with P4 communication properties.
I can able to get the remote roles in consumer (it is working fine).
But I am not able to see the Producer PCD. I didnt get the expand button in the Netweaver content Producer object .
Please help me, Where I made mistake..
    Thanks and Regards,
    Chinnadurai R

    Hi Chinnadurai
1.During the process of Registering (Adding) Producer Portal, while entering the connection parameters of the NetWeaver producer portal use appropriate Host name against “Host Name” input field instead of IP address. Perhaps this might create some problem during execution in later stage.
e.g. Host Name: use “Hostname123” instead of XXX.XX.XXX.XXX
NOTE: Here always use fully qualified domain name
    2. Check whether producer is 'Blocked'
    3. Try to add new producer again followed by connection test and registration ...it might work...
    4. Sometimes it may happen that you are able to see PCD under portal content studio of consumer portal but if when  you open the producer under 'NetWeaver content producers' and if it does not contain folders in it, the registration is considered to be unsuccessful even though it stated it was successful while registration

  • Why editing iview id break the delta link in the portal page?

For some reason, everytime I edit the iview id, the delta link in the page will be broken.
After I changed the iview id, the iview id that I added as delta link in portal page remain same, and seems like become a separate copy , rather than the original delta link.
This frustracted me as I have to remove the old iview , and add the new edited iview into the page again.
Why is this happen? (I am very sure I didn't accidentally add the iview as copy, instead of delta link)
By the way, I am in NW04s SP9.
    Thanks for help.
    Kent

    Hi Kent,
    > (I am very sure I didn't accidentally
    > add the iview as copy, instead of delta link)
The wording "I am very sure" points to the fact that you didn't really check and re-try it?!
I just checked it on NW04 / SPS18 (which corresponds to SP09 on NW2004s) - and it works like a charme. The delta-link on the test page points to the new ID (as the ID-Change-Wizard announces it).
As I have no 2004s installation at hand, I would suggest really to re-check if you are really talking of a delta-link. If it really doesn't work on SP09 while it works on SP18 in parallel, you would have to open an OSS message. Anyhow, this really should behave analogously...
    Hope it helps

  • Federation: Remote role assignment vs Remote delta link

does anyone know whats the difference on what percentage of load falls on the Consumer portal and what percentage of load on producer between federation via remote role assignment and via remote delta link
    which way is better?

    Hi,
Basically the load differences between RRA and RDL on the consumer and producer is not a good way to look at it.  Technically all the load to run the content and render it is done on the producer portal and the producer portal just has to display the content in either case.
As to which one is better, it depends on what you want to do.  RRA only works with roles.  If you have roles already created on you producer portal and you just want to use them as is on the consumer portal then RRA is the way to go.  But if you only want to use iViews or pages from the producer then you have use  RDL.  (or remote application integration)
You can of course use both if you want.  You don't have to use only one so use the ne that meets you need the best.
    Hope this helps,
    John

  • App page link to "federated portal" menu with  webdynpro for JAVA

    Hi experts,
we have completed the federated portal configuration from EP to CE7.1
Clients just log in EP, see both EP and CE content.
Now, clients want to make a index page with some link and fashion pictures pointed to exact EP or CE page.
I found a method "WDPortalNavigation.navigateAbsolute" which can do this in EP.
but when i change content path to my CE content, the method failed.
    WDPortalNavigation.navigateAbsolute(
                   "ROLES://NetWeaver_content_producers/<my CE producer's name>/portal_content/...<my path>",

  • Transporting/Deploying Portal Content and Delta Linked Objects

I researching the best way to trasport/deploy changed ESS Portal content from sandbox to D>Q.  I have become familiar with the few changes my co. needs to deploy part of ESS.  I have read articles that say it is wrong to modify the "Content Provided by SAP".  The recommendation appears to be "use delta link objects". I created the necessary delta links in a new directory.
How do I get the delta link objects to display instead of the sap source objects? I this primarily related to how the  portal is configured or how the content is managed?
I'm really sorry about the general question (in advance) but this stuff is new for me and I'm essentially looking for some good direction here.
    Thanks,
    James

    Hi James,
Yes exactly right. You should create your own PCD folder under Portal Content to store your objects. How you structure that is entirely up to you, however in my experience I have seen two ways
    1. First by Function or Dept (e.g. Finance, Logistics, HR) then by technical object (iView, role etc...)
    2. First by Technical Object (e.g. iViews, Roles, Worksets etc...) then by function or dept or region (Finance, HR etc...)
Number 1 makes more sense to me. Just some other tips when it comes to creating PCD content:
    1. Put everything in your own namespace (e.g. com.mycompany) that way it is easy to separate from SAP content using filters.
2, Come up with a logical naming standard so you can easily identify content by group, function and technical type (e.g. for an iView you might name it whoswho with the prefix com.mycompany.hr.ivu resulting in a name com.mycompany.hr.ivu.whoswho)
    2. Don't give PCD folders any prefix (e.g. com.mycompany) as it ends up elongating the resulting URLs unnecessarily and you can run into problems down the track.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Permission problems in Federated Portal Setup

    Hello SDNers,
I am trying to setup Federation between two portals. Both the portals are in the same domain and use the same LDAP user data source.
Both the portals are on NW 7.0 EHP1 SP 05.
I am following the online help and few other links. I have followed all the steps explained.
SSO and trust between portals is properly setup and is validated.
The point where I am stuck at is with the permissions on the producer portal for the "Guest" user.
If I assign Super Admin role to the Guest user in the producer portal, every thing works fine. I can see the roles in Consumer portal for Remote Role Assignment and also I am able to do Remote Delta Links.
However, this is not anticipated. (We cannot assign super admin to Guest user)
If I remove the Super Admin role to the Guest user in the producer portal, every thing breaks - I cannot see the remote roles from Consumer portal, I cannot see any content under Netweaver Content Producers for the given producer.
I have given "Everyone" group - read access to everything below "Portal Content" folder both on producer and consumer portals.
PCD_Service user is assigned the actions Remote_Producer_Write_Access and Remote_Producer_Read_Access in both portals.
    Log says:
    Call failed
    EXCEPTION
SOAP Fault Exception (Actor SAPEPP) com.sapportals.portal.prt.service.soap.exception.SoapFaultHandler] : The User Authentification is not correct to access to the Portal Service com.sap.portal.prt.soap.Bridge or the service was not found.
    My Questions are:
    1. What does Guest user have to do in the whole process - Where it is exactly used ?
    2. How can I give Guest user the required permissions (especially to portal service com.sap.portal.prt.soap.Bridge) ?
    Please suggest.
    Thank You ,
    Raj Kumar

    Thank you for your answers.
    Vaibhav -
I have checked the "End User" option for Everyone group in producer portal.
How do I assign security zones permission to Everyone group ?
Can you please throw some light in that area.
    Dao -
I do not want to use the Guest user any where.
However, internally some how the "Guest" user is being used for communication between producer and consumer.
Also, the Guest user we are talking about is the one on the producer portal (not on consumer)
How can I make use of a different user for FPN purposes and make sure that it has access to all the FPN related services on the producer ?
Once again - to emphasize -
If I assign super admin role to Guest user on producer portal - every thing works fine (RRA and RDL)
If I remove the super admin role to Guest user on producer portal - neither RRA nor RDL will work.
    Kindly suggest.
Thank You once again for your time.

  • Questions on Federated Portal Network

    Hi All,
I have a few questions on Federated Portal Network. Please if someone can provide appropriate answers
It is said that the look n feel will be same. Will the consumer have the look n feel of the producer or the producer application will have the look n feel of the consumer portal. Also, if it is required for the content of the producer portal to maintain it's own look n feel, is it possible
How to take care of the performance bottlenecks. Are there any standards available to improve the performance
Any limitation on the no of producer portals which can be configured with the consumer portal
If one portlet, has undergone some kind of change, then how is the consumer portal notified of this. Is there some kind of synchronization mechanism that takes place or this change is implicitly conveyed to the consumer portal, both in the case of Remote Delta Link or Remote Role Assignment
How does the session management work between the consumer portal and producer portal
What is meant by transitive content sharing
    Regards
    Nikhil

    Hi Rasmus,
Is your consumer portal required High Availability?  A scheduled re-bounce of the instance should help (weekly, monthly, etc.) as a preventive measure.  Maybe you can observe to see how long does it take before the problem comes back (after a full cache refreshed) and then schedule your re-bounce accordingly.  As much as we try to do our best, "things" happen
Or, you can adjust your cache settings (e.g. reduce the maxValidityPeriodInSecond property) to avoid the problem.

According to the following link, the cache stores only semantic objects (iViews, pages, layouts and roles); since worksets are not semantic objects, could that be why?!

  • UWL in Federated Portal Network

    Hi All,
Can anyone please suggest how UWL works in case of Federated Portal Network? I have a requirement to show the tasks, alerts, notifications from more then one Producer in the same UWL iview on Consumer.
I followed the steps as mentioned in the SAP help document Running the UWL in the Consumer Portal http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/45/8084e2e8c9487fe10000000a114a6b/frameset.htm but no luck.
I would appreciate if anyone can let me know the proper process for doing this or could provide any document for it.
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards
    Seema Rane.

    Hi Seema,
There are two ways to configure UWL on the federated portal:
    1. Run UWL on the Consumer Portal:
    a. Everything must be copied over, including xml files.  Retrieve information directly from the backend.  Use the IviewLauncher Handler. This uses the remote delta link from the producer.
Have a look here at the help documentation:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/45/8084e2e8c9487fe10000000a114a6b/content.htm
    2. Run UWL in Producer Portal:
    a. Here the configuration is predefined.
    b. Use remote role assignment or remote delta links
producer remote delta links should be available as remote delta links on the consumer.
copy as remote delta links; config is done on the producer
Have a look here at the help documentation:
    EP7
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/45/81ab2f3bab6975e10000000a114a6b/content.htm
