Fedora merging /usr/bin with /sbin and /bin

I just read this mail on the fedora list regaring the proposal to merge the different directories for binaries:

It does seem like a practice from times long gone.
What is your take on this? Wouldn't this be something in the spirit of Arch, too?

Do you possibly mean the contacts have been merged?
If so, where are each of you syncing contacts? A supported application on the computer? iCloud or another cloud service? An Exchange server?
WIthout details, it's difficult to offer specific resolutions.

Merged my Contacts with iCloud and lost all new contacts

Hi all,
Mac OSX Lion. I made a bunch of new groups on my (desktop computer) contacts book, as I went through the contacts book, I reviewed and updated contact info for nearly a thousand contacts. I spent literally hours parsing out my client contacts into three client contact groups that I made.
I realized that I had never turned on iCloud syncing in the iCloud preferences. I turned on the Contacts Syncing option in the iCloud pref and was asked if I want to Merge my local contacts with iCloud. I said Yes. After the Merge was finished, the three new groups that I made had vanished, and all of the contacts that I had meticulously updated had gone back to their previous state.
Needless to say, this is really upsetting. Anyone else seen this problem? Any magic button I can press to bring back all of my hard work?
For what it is worth, after this fiasco, I decided to see if iCloud was working properly, created a few test contacts on my iPad, desktop computer, and notebook... all three worked perfectly by instantly sharing the info to each other.
The main problem appears to have been the "Merge" when I turned iCloud syncing on after having created a lot of new contact info on my desktop computer.

Your daughter must have signed into your iCloud account, perhaps when she updated her phone. You can confirm this by going to Settings>iClloud on her phone and seeing if she is using the same iCloud ID.
To fix this you would need to migrate her phone to a separate iCloud account. To do this, start by saving any photo stream photos that she wishes to keep on your phone to her camera roll by opening her my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tapping the share icon (box with upware pointing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.
Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and provide the password when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone. This only deletes the account from her phone, not from iCloud; it won't effect your device(s). When you delete the account you will be asked if you want to keep or delete the iCloud data from her phone. If she needs to migrate a copy of the data to her new account, choose Keep; otherwise, choose Delete. Then sign back in with a separate Apple ID to create her new account and if migrating data to the new account, choose Merge when prompted.
Once she is on a separate account, if she migrated a copy of the data to her new account you can go to icloud.com from your computer, sign into her new iCloud account and delete your data from her account.

LQ02 - Transfer Posting in IM - *Bin wih positive and Negative Stock*

Hi All,
I've a problem with LQ02, when i've executed this transaction for Block STock category S, it is updating the BIN with Nagative and Positive Qty. (For the same material/Batch/Warehouse/Plant)
Here is the example data from LQUA

You may have to provide more detail on what you're wanting to know if this doesn't answer your question.
Shell scripts are just text files. You can create or open them with any text editor. They are executed by one of the command interpreters (such as sh, bash, csh, etc) or by a language interpreter (like perl or ruby). However, many of the items in the directories you mention are not shell scripts but rather binary executables. These are executed by the OS.
You can use something like this to show you which are which:
file /usr/bin/*

Mac App Store app running programs in /usr/bin or /sbin

The Mac Developer Program License Agreement says:
3.3.4 All files necessary for the Application to execute must be in the Application bundle submitted to Apple and must be installed by the Mac App Store.
This precludes using NSTask to run a program in /usr/bin or /sbin to obtain some output. Seems pretty restrictive since there is a lot of good functionality there and most of it without copyright. There is a fine line between running /sbin/md5 on a file to get a hash, and calling md5() in libssl.dylib, making me wonder what is the purpose of the restriction.
The question, dumb as it may sound given section 3.3.4 of the agreement, is, should I eliminate all code that runs other programs?
If the Mac App Store app runs without running other programs, but includes other features by running those programs, does it still violate section 3.3.4?
Has anyone submitted a program that calls others and, if so, was it accepted?

You have to set it up, launch it, possibly send it data, collect the output, parse it. I have an app circulating around here called EtreCheck that does lots and lots of NSTask. It isn't sandboxed though. The problem is that your NSTask inherits your app sandbox and it may expect to read or write to places that it can't. You can use it, but if there is an alternative in a framework or library, that would be better. I think the biggest problem with NSTask is that they are procedural. You have to start it, run it, wait for it, and then handle the output. You will have to do that in a thread or block.
I used /sbin/md5 as an example since it has an analog library routine. /usr/bin/cksum is the more direct way to verify file integrity. I would also like to run /usr/bin/compress. Certainly easier than writing & testing LZW or Huffman code.
I think you could probably run both of those. There may be easier versions around. iOS people can't do any of that so there may be some handy Cocoa libraries that will do just what you need. If you just want to compress data, libz is in the OS and not too terribly difficult to use.
I will probably just have my app run those programs and describe this in my submission to Apple, If they say no, then I'll code those pieces too.
I don't think you really have to describe anything other than some of your entitlements. As long as it works on your machine and you aren't calling any private APIs then you should be fine. I was only half-joking before. If you really aren't a fraudster, then you really have nothing to worry about at all.
I don't know what kind of checks they do for that kind of thing. Pretty much everything I have done so far has some feature that looks like it should be forbidden by the sandbox, but really isn't. I display copyrighted Apple art in ways that aren't normally possible. I launch Terminal. I just released an app that has serious amounts of integration with the Finder. No problems.

Yes, of course. And even if I hadn't, that wouldn't explain Premiere freezing
or crashing. Let me ask this. Is there a maximum amount of clips or some kind of RAM use tipping point where Premiere just can't handle anymore references? That is the only thing I can think of that would possibly cause this sudden glitch or some kind of coding error, like the 'replace with clip from bin' command can only handle 'x' file references somehow... I have about 300 AVCHD clips and 200 HD .mov files in the project panel. What do you think?

2x2 Binning with Dalsa 01M60 and NI PCIe-1427

I have a setup with a Dalsa 01M60 connected to a NI PCIe-1427 via camera link cable.
I can grab frames in the normal 1024x1024 pixel mode without problems.
Setting the binning mode to 2x2 in MAX the pics have the expected resolution of 512x512.
But it's not the whole picture anymore. In one direction i only see half of the picture.
My idea is, that the binning only works in one dimension and in the other dimension you can see only the first 512 pixels.
I checked the camera-file and the binning is configurated correctly.

As a first solution i wrote my own binning-vi but it's not very fast and it's not how it should be.

Thanks muks - i read the thread already and couldn't find a solution in it
I added two screen shots, one of a picture without binning and the other with the 2x2 binning. Both taken in Ni-MAX. The one without Binning in a 1024x1024 resolution, the other one in 512x512 resolution. I didn't change something in the camera-file, i just used Ni-MAX (which should work ...?).
So I still have the same problem.

Dynamic destination bin with Mov. Type 311-312 and Storage type 001?

I'm tryng to determine dynamic destination bin with mov. type 311, when trasfering handling units from IM to WM storages (VLMOVE). First 311 transfer to St. type 921, and then 312 transfer from 921 to St. type 001. I don´t want to use a Fixed destination storage bin in St.type 001, I'd like to configure this like movement type 601, that create a dynamic destination bin using outbound delivery. Can be this possible?
Another question I have: Is possible to crearte individivual items with Source target quantity in alternate unit equivalent to 1 unit, in LT03. For example, the item 10 of my outbound delivery says 3 ST of XYZ material. But I want to crear 3 items with Source target qty. 1 ST. Is this possible with customizing or using an enhancement? ...
Why I want to find a way to do any of these things above, because when I have indivial intes in the TO, I can confirm them in RF (LM61) just pressing one button, I don't need to declare any difference, and makes my picking process faster.

Mapping with Match and Merge operater giving ORA-06550 error while deploy..

Created a simplet mapping to source from Customer table to tstcustomer table thru' Match and Merge operator. The mapping validated successful but giving ORA-06550 line x column y error while deploying the mapping.
It is a simple mapping consisting of source Customer table, Match and Merge operator, tstcustomer target table.
Could anyone advise me on how to resolve this?

The test mapping basically consists of :
source table - sh.customers
target table - tstcustomers (similar to sh.customers)
Match-Merge operator.
The mapping validation was successful but when attempt was made to deploy, its giving errors starting with ORA-06550.
I saved the code and executed thru' SQL Plus and the error details are as follows:

For your info, the same mapping without Match-Merge Operator is getting deployed and executed successfully.
But with Match-Merge operator, after setting Match bins, Match rules, Merge rules etc the mapping is validated successfully but errorring out while deployment.
Pls advise on how to resolve this.
I understand that the Match-Merge Operator gives Pl/Sql output from the documentation.

/usr/local/bin OR /opt/local/bin

I recently installed osxvnc and the install program put it into /opt/local/bin. I already had /usr/local/bin etc.
Is there a standard way of doing this - that is using /opt/local or /usr/local or is opt for optional programs and /usr/local for locally developed programs?

Fink uses /sw and darwinports uses /opt/local specifically so that what you have in /usr/local doesn't interfere with fink, or with darwinports, and that their installs don't interfere with what you install manually into /usr/local.
Use /usr/local for software you compile by hand that installs in there by default. Keep fink and darwinports separate from this, and separate from each other. The best way to do this is to leave everything as it is.
If you want to, you can configure fink (and I assume darwinports) to install everything into /usr/local. Again, I suggest you not do it for the same reasons as just given. More details of how and why this was done are available on the fink and on the darwinports documentation sites.

'ASC' :
ASCII format. The table is transferred as text. The conversion exits are
carried out. The output format additionally depends on the parameters
CODEPAGE, TRUNC_TRAILING_BLANKS, and TRUNC_TRAILING_BLANKS_EOL.
'IBM' :
ASCII format with IBM codepage conversion (DOS). This format correspond
to the 'ASC' format when using target codepage 1103. This codepage is
often used for data exchange by disc.
'DAT' :
Column-by-column transfer. With this format, the data is transferred as
with ASC text. However, no conversion exists are carried out and the
columns are separated by tab characters. This format creates files that
can be uploaded again with gui_upload or ws_upload.
'DBF' :
The data is downloaded in dBase format. Because in this format the file
types of the individual columns are included, import problems, for
example, into Microsoft Excel can be avoided, especially when
interpreting numeric values.
'WK1' :
The data is downloaded in Lotus 1-2-3 format.
'BIN' :
Binary format. The data is transferred in binary format. There is no
formatting and no codepage conversion. The data is interpreted row by
row and not formatted in columns. Specify the length of the data in
parameter BIN_FILESIZE. The table should consist of a column of type X,
because especially in Unicode systems the conversion of structured data
into binary data leads to errors.

Problem with SUT into bin type table

When in SPRO in strategy -storage unit type search strategy - SUT in bin type table,we have only 30 entries possible.
BUt we need more somewhere like 150 records because of a bulk storage type with a lot of storage bins with different
size and therefore capacity. To define true exact capacity we need different bin types right?
I am not sure how to do this,maybe there is a option in settings to change 30 to 150 or 200 to make the table bigger?
Or any other solution will be great because we do need this because in the way it works now,we have a lot of problems
in putaway,we have huge realocations since we have not exact capacities but we had to group bins with similar capacity
but that means that three bins with 48, 52 and 56 capactiy all have 52.

If I remember correctly this has been asked numerous times before, try searching the discussions.
Anyway, you have a couple of possible solutions for this.
It is understandable that you don't want hundreds of reallocation on daily basis, and you don't want to lose the capacity otherwise, but it feels that your bins should and could have been planned a bit better, there is always a way to unify capacities, split bins, use the storage space in a more meaningful manner. This is the point where your optimization was supposed to be done, not in SAP. But anyway, you are stuck with what you have and here are the solutions that cross my mind.
1. Standard SAP:
Split the bins to multiple storage types, this way you will have 30 bin types, but they will have different capacity for different storage types (in OMM4). Easy and standard, but has the downside that you will have to manipulate with 5 storage types instead of 1. A bit of more customizing but will solve the problem. Also, storage type search will need to be changed to include all the STs... Might be harder to track the strategies but this is the only standard way that crosses my mind.
2. ABAP:
This is the solution I have used and works fine, though you will need an ABAP-er to complete this.
Create a z-table/view having the same structure as the standard one, just add 120 more fields.
Well, not only that, you will have to change the coding to use this custom table instead of standard one, and although this isn't the brightest solution since you won't be able to change this table in customizing in the predefined path in SPRO/OLML, but will need o do it in SM30.
Luckily both of the options should work fine if done correctly, I have used both of these, and both have up and down sides... But I would go with standard SAP if it doesn't complicate your life too much because of several more STs. If it does, go with ABAP.

Audio Levels and Bins

I recently got a copy of FCE and am still getting used to it. I was wondering if you could change the audio levels in certain points. I've been using premiere for a number of years and on that you can click on the level line which inserts a point at which you can either peak and troughs.
My project is basically an interview with the a band and at certain intervals im inserting live footage. i have a track playing in the background during the interview and would like it to suddenly get louder in the places where theres footage of the subject in action. How do i go about this?
Also i have another Project that im working on which involves my recent trip to california. Basically when capturing my clips i would like each tape to be saved into seperate folders and bins. So in the program i can quickly find my clips which would be in seperate bins DAY1-DAY2-DAY3 etc.
How do i go about doing this also?

Turn on the clip overlays in the Timeline (Opt-W). Hold the option key and click on the pink audio level line to add a keyframe. Add another keyframe, grab it and pull it down. Not unlike Premiere.
Make a new bin (Cmd-B) and name it. Right-click on it and select Make Capture Bin. Anything you capture will go into that bin. For the next day's material make another bin and set that as the capture bin. You could also just capture the material and move it into appropriate bins.

UPDATE to "Premiere Pro's #1 missing feature": Auto-Tagging Bins with Shortcuts

In a previous thread (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1179075?start=0&tstart=0) I suggested that Adobe give us FCPX and FCP7-style subclip creation.
I just got some new ideas that improve this previous FR:
AUTO-TAGGING BINS with user assignable SHORTCUTS
1. Creating an auto-tagging Bin could be as simple as adding a special character such as ‘#’ in front of its title. So for example, renaming a Bin from ‘Interviews’ to ‘#Interviews’ would automatically add the tag ‘Interviews’ to the metadata of all clips within it. Users could even add several auto-tags to a single Bin. For example, by naming a Bin ‘University #Interviews #Staff’, any clips added to that bin would automatically inherit the searchable metadata tags ‘Interview’ and ‘Staff’, but not ‘University’ since it doesn't have the ‘#’ symbol added in front of it.
2. Contrary to FCPX’s 'keyword collections' approach, my approach would also allow Bin/Sub Bin tagging hierarchies. Imagine the following Bin structure: A parent Bin named ‘Interviews’ containing 3 sub-Bins named ‘Staff’, ‘Students’ and ‘Sound bites’. Adding an auto-tag to the parent Bin, (e.g. changing the name to ‘#Interviews’) would automatically propagate that tag to the contents of all sub-Bins! The organizational power of this would be amazing!
3. At any time, a user could remove metadata tags from clips simply by dragging the clips out of an auto-tagging Bin, or by removing the auto-tag from the Bin itself.
4. Any number of Bins, whether enabled for auto-tagging or not, could be given keyboard shortcuts. Doing so could be as simple as selecting a new ‘Assign shortcut’ option from the Bin’s context menu, which would automatically bring up the ‘Keyboard Shortcuts’ window, with a new ‘Bins’ root folder twirled open and ready for use (in addition to the current root folders: ‘Application’, ‘Panels’ and ‘Tools’). For easy visual reference, this ‘Bins’ root folder would automatically be populated with the names of every Project Window Bin, in their current hierarchy. IMHO, FCPX still has superior organizational tools vs PP, at the moment, but with the suggested features above, PP would truly one-up FCPX in this regard!

Use a Bin’s shortcut to create sub-clips of 1 or more selected clips in the Timeline (something you can’t do in FCPX!)
Drag&drop a clip’s in/out range from the Source Monitor to a Bin.
Drag&drop 1 or more clips from the Timeline to automatically create subclips that inherit any present auto-tags.
IMHO, FCPX still has superior organizational tools vs PP, at the moment, but with the suggested features above, PP would truly one-up FCPX in this regard!
Hopefully all of this is clear. Thoughts? Comments?
