Feedback CS6

Really loving CS6!
Great Job on the UI upgrades it is really Clean and nice to work with. The video features are amazing and really powerful.
Some things that I would really like to see included are:
Ability to import a RAW images as a sequence like in AE - also be able to dynamic link or import from Lightroom
Ability to export files using Media Encoder - there are not enough video export options
Dynamic link from Premiere Pro - ability to DL a clip in the timeline and send to photoshop like you can to AE.
I think that is all great job!

Thanks for the positive feedback. We will be evaluating all of the feature requests as possible items to consider in a future version.
Thanks for taking the time to downlod and try the beta and for providing feedback.

  • My Feedback and complaints on CS6 and Lightroom 4

I really am having trouble finding any other way to send some feedback to adobe so maybe this makes its way to someone who cares.
Overall the feature enhancements to CS6 and LR4 are good, however they have been executed very poorly.
I am very upset with the way CS6 has been working in comparison to CS5.5.  It is slow all around.  When something needs to be updated the programs I have open start running super slow and exhibit strange behavior with mouse clicks and menus that I have not performed forcing me to lose time right in the middle of working on projects to update the software and restart then boot up all the programs once again and find my place.  Several things that worked in CS5.5 will not work when the project is imported and updated to CS6 version. Additionally Lightroom 4 is god awfully slow compared to Lightroom 3 and the brush utility is extremely laggy.
The newest nusance to this update is that my application manager has now been updated and replaced with creative cloud application manager yet I do not want to use creative cloud, which is why I purchased a copy of CS6 and not CC.  During this update I was working on editing some large panoramas in lightroom 4 and became super frustrated when it started bogging down and was essentially useless to use, right in the middle of a project.
Why does this happen since the application manager doesn't even have anything to do with LR4?
I am very disappointed in the upgrade from CS5.5 and LR3.
I hope that somehow, without having sign up for the Creative Cloud, that Adobe will improve the speed of the software and functionality and release a patch or update.
For reference here is the system I am using and have been using with CS5.5 and LR3 with no problems, great perforamne and good reliability.

My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images from Lightroom and choosing the "Render using Lightroom option when it popped up in the dialogue box. She has been doing this for over a year and a half without any problem. Today when she hit Command E no dialogue box appeared and the image just opened in Photoshop. I'm concerned that all of her Lightroom edits are not being rendered to Photoshop. Anyone have an idea as to how we can get the "Render using Lightroom" dialogue back?

  • Feedback required to setup CS6 based edit machine

    Hi
We are an independent film making unit and are about to start the edit process for our feature documentary (mixed medium). We have footage shot on DSLR, avchd format, iphone, ipad etc. Thus Premiere Pro (with GPU accelaration) was our first choice for an edit platform since it saves us tonnes of conversions.
We are trying to put together an edit machine, which will later be used for animation purposes too. This is the config we have come up with. Feedback regarding the same in context to CS6 support would be great.
    1) Intel i7 3930K 3.2GHz 6 core
    2) Motherboard: ASUS P9X79 PRO
    3) graphic card: EVGA GTX Titan superclocked
    4) Corasir 1200 W PSU
    5) Corsair H100i cooler
    6) Gskill 16GB (8GB x2) DDR3 2400MHz x2= 32GB ram
    7) hdd : Seagate Barracuda 1 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive 7200 rpm
hdd2 : Seagate Barracuda 3 TB Desktop Internal Hard Drive 7200 rpm
A major confusion we have is regarding the graphic card. We have heard that the Titan is good for gaming purposes but not many reviews are out there in context to edit renders and animation renders. Please Help.

This thread got side tracked, bad.
The 3930k is a great CPU for such a build. I'm not sure about the Titan, but in theory it should be very good for both tasks based on the specs.
The biggest thing I would change about your setup is the disks. a 256gb for os/programs, 128gb if you're just using the CS suite and maybe 1-2 3D applications. This will only improve operating speed, which is really nice.
A single 3tb HDD for your projects is going to be a serious bottleneck for your editing, I would suggest at least 2 HDD's in raid O or, depending on the size of the project data, another SSD. Raid 5 with 4 1TB HDDs would give you speed, security, and lots of storage, but if you go with large HDD's the risk of data loss is pretty high. With something like this I would think about RAID 1+0 with 4 2tb HDD's, 4tb of storage, around double the speed of a single HDD, and a mirror incase of disk failure.
IMO for video editing, if you don't go at least RAID 0 with two decent HDD's, the titan and 3930k aren't going to get utilized enough to justify the cost. If money is a thing, drop down to a GTX 680 or even a GTX 580, from what I've seen the 580 is a great card for editing. You could even go down to a GTX570, and you'd probably get better overall performance with that and a good disk setup than you would with 2 HDD's and a the titan.
Disk speed doesn't only affect render speed, it affects how quickly premiere can digest the footage. Dragging and dropping 30-50gb of footage into a premiere project can take forever on a single disk system, but with an SSD or good RAID setup, that time can be cut down dramatically. Same goes for playback, if you've got multiple streams of dense material going through the editor you'll end up with dropped frames and skipping because the HDD can't feed the system fast enough. With a large project like yours I'm sure having better disk performance would make the whole process more smooth.
If you look at the results of the new PPBM, mine is the last, and it uses a single HDD for projects. Now my system is probably slower in other areas also, it's powered by a 3770k at 4.4ghz and a GTX 660, but even on my system I'm bottlenecked by my HDD. Then again, I work on 1-2 minute projects containing maybe 3-4gb of footage from a DSLR, so a better disk setup would kind of be overkill because my render times are already short. But if I had a large project to work on, I'd be waiting around for footage to import, waiting forever for renders, and having to deal with skipped/dropped frames with high bitrate/multicam footage.

Can you find out for sure on which version?  Seems strange, that CS6, no matter where it came from, wouldn't be sync'ed as far as version. I understand features coming out for PHotoshop CC, that would go forward and not be in CS6, but it seems that CS6 should be CS6 and be sync'd for features and version numbers no matter where you got it from.
If you got CS6 from CC....and you quit CC....does that version of CS6 quit functioning or does it work still going forward if you stop paying the CC monthly rent?
    Thanks in advance,

  • My feedback on CS6

Just processed a pano in CS6 (using PTGUI for the stitching and blending), here are my thoughts on CS6 so far:
    Larger brush sizes are nice
Larger radius setting on High pass filter is nice
When using the straight line multi point lasso tool (sorry, can't remember its name - like the magnetic lasso but not magnetic), moving the mouse to the edge of viewing area scrolls the image too fast. Maybe there is an option to change this somewhere, but I didn't notice it in the preferences.
Using a white soft brush on a black layer mask, the gradation between the white and black was sometimes blocky (would clean up if you zoomed in).
Using a white soft brush on a black layer mask, sometimes the edges of the painted area looked slightly colored (similar to what you can get sometimes with anti-aliased text). I'm using a CRT monitor.
Couldn't open CS5 and CS6 at the same time, which meant directly comparing features was a bit difficult
I'll update this thread with any more thoughts I have as I use CS6 more.

    In ACR7:
False highlight recovery. I had an overexposed image, in ACR7 the overexposed areas suddenly go from clipped to not clipped at -2.35 exposure. In older ACR the areas are still clipped at the max negative exposure of -4. I prefer the older ACR behaviour where highlights are only not clipped if there is some actual data there. If I don't want any tones to be pure white, I'll use the tone curve, I don't want the exposure compensation slider to do this.
No CA correction sliders. I appreciate the auto correction, but it would be nice to have the option of manual correction as well.
Extremely minor point, but I prefer the brown colour of the old Bridge icon to the new colours.
In Bridge, it would nice if custom metadata could be displayed in the metadata panel. I'm particularly thinking of the MacroMagnification that is stored in the Canon MakerNotes for photos taken with Canon's MP-E lens. I think users can make custom metadata panels for use in Bridge now, but only for displaying basic xmp. Extending this to support all metadata (and more complex xmp types like structs) would be great.

  • Beta feedback - Inconsistent layer filter in Photoshop CS6

    Inconsistent layer filter in CS6?
There seems to be some inconsistency when using the layer panel filter with hidden layers or layer attributes.
    Currently:
If I have some pixel based layers, some with a drop shadow fx...
If a layer is hidden (eye off) and I filter for 'kind = pixel layers', the layer shows in the results. (This is what I would prefer.)
If the layer is visible (eye on), but the effects eye is off and I filter for 'attribute = layer effects', the layer shows in the results. (This is what I would prefer.)
    However...
If the layer is visible (eye on), the effects eye is on, but the individual effect eye (drop shadow in this case) is off, and I filter for 'effect = drop shadow', the layer does not show in the results. I think it should.
    In summary:
I think that the filter system should show all layers and/or attributes in the filter results whether they are visible or not.
    Mike Abbott

I am painting with a white brush - onto a black mask.  The purpose is to only apply the Dust and Scratches filter to specific areas.
The brushing will apply the filtered effects when I create the layer, apply the filter, and apply the black mask.  The brushing no longer works if I create a new layer and then return to the layer with the Dust and Scratches filter.  The problem is similar, I think, to if one were applying an effect with the history brush, close the file, and reopen it.  The history brush won't be helpful because the history is lost..  In this case of applying the filter to a layer with a mask, the history brush isn't used and I would have guessed that the layer would allow re-use of the filter and brush.

    Hi Jdentremont,
Lync client gets user photos by first querying the Address Book Web Query (ABWQ) service on the server, which is exposed through the Distribution List Expansion web service. The client receives
the image file and then copies it to the user's cache to avoid downloading the image each time it needs to be displayed. The attribute values returned from the query are also stored in the cached Address Book Service entry for the user. The Address Book Service
deletes all cached images every 24 hours, which means that it can take up to 24 hours for new user images to be updated in the cache on the server.
To troubleshoot your problem, please follow the steps below:
    1.  Navigate to
     “X:\share\1-WebServices-1\ABfiles\000000000\000000000” folder. (ABS file share)
You should see some photo files in this folder as the following screenshot.
    2. Delete all the files in this folder.
    3. On test PC, delete local cache files.
    %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
    4. Sign-in Lync with the test account.
    5. Go back to the ABS file share, check if there is any Photo file in the folder.
    Best regards,
    Eric

  • Canon  Vixia HV30 capture issue on CS6 (Mac OSX)

This might be (hopefully) something in setup, but under Mac OSX Lion (10.7.4) / Premiere CS6, i am unable to capture video from my Canon Vixia HV30 - it's either i get a monstruous noise or simply get a 'capture device offline' message.
No one ever had a similar problem even withanother cam here? I posted weeks ago but never got any reply.
Am using the same cam under Windows with Premiere CS4 and never faced such an issue.
Matter of some sort of CODEC ?  Does not seem to require any specific driver for Mac based on Canon website.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Solved... (Almost!)
Someone pointed out that Canon has a software (they said there was no driver for Mac OS X so I had stopped looking...) But if it may help others, there is a ''CameraWindow'' for Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8  available.
As soon as I installed it, I could capture both from Adobe Premiere CS6 and iMovie.
One problem remaining though : the noise (feedback-like) that gets out from... the system's sound card ! (when capture is ongoing). I have to shut down the volume completely.  Never had this issue under Windows, need to figure out why this happens now.
Jeff thanks again for your assistance, even though the solution was somewhere else.
If anyone has a clue for the noise issue ... please let me know

  • Creative Cloud pops up with trail will expire in 0 days when I run Dreamweaver CS6

When I click on the icon for Dreamweaver CS6 a panel for Dreamweaver CC pops up with the message “Your trial will expire in 0 days”  “00 days remaining.  It offers “Buy Now” and “Continue Trial”. When I click the red x to close out I am returned to Dreamweaver CS6.
I reinstalled Dreamweaver CS6 but the problem persists.  I do not want Dreamweaver CDC.
I tried to follow the instructions In http://helpx.adobe.com/dreative-suite ... "Creative Cloud Help/Creative Cloud applications unexpectedly revert to trial mode | CS6, CC ..."  but I lost the thread.
I am at a loss at to what to do now.  Please help.

Here are two additional items that may be helpful:
    1.    I reported that Under Step 3 “Check Your Host Files – Still Have Problems?  Reset Host Files” I did not find entries that reference activate.adobe.com.  On further checking I found the Notepad file.  It contained the following information:
Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    For example:
        102.54.94.97    rhino.acme.com          # source server
          38.25.63.10    x.acme.com              # x client host
localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
            127.0.0.1      localhost
            ::1            localhost
    2.    On Saturday, 23 August 2014 I received an e-mail from Adobe Creative Cloud [email protected] that said
Welcome. We’re glad you’ve joined us.
Thanks for joining Creative Cloud. We thought we’d send along a few ideas to help you get started.

    * Express your creativity on-the-go using our new and improved range of mobile apps.
    Get started
    Make something great,
    The Creative Cloud Team
This is odd.  What made them think I joined Creative Cloud? The Creative Cloud program is not installed on the computer and I have not downloaded Creative Cloud trial version or a paid version.
GOAL: My goal is to eliminate the CC pop up that occurs every time I access Dreamweaver CS6. I am satisfied with Dreamweaver CS6.  I do not want to lose the CS6 capability.  I do not want Creative Cloud trial version or the paid version.
So far I have been unable to remove the pop up and I can’t find a way to phone or e-mail Adobe Technical Support.  When I received the CC Welcome message, I considered the following approach:
    1.    Accept the invitation to Get Started and install the 30-day trial version
    2.    Use the CC Cleaner Tool to uninstall Creative Cloud.
This approach might work.  It is equally possible it would further complicate the problem.
Should I accept the CC invitation to Get Started with CC and then use CC Cleaner to uninstall the Creative Cloud program?  Is there an alternative approach that will work?
    Thank you.

  • New System Build feedback/advice, please...

Time to build a new WorkStation. My motivation for upgrading is that I have been using a mediocore laptop (i7m, 8gb, 250gb ) from my work as my home system for the last 2 years, I am starting to get more freelance coming in and need a good desktop.
I am not so sure about my processor, mother board and video card choice. I am more interested in app usability than absolute throughput and want to maximise my dollar investment.
    Purchase date: this week
Budget:  I'd like to stay close to $1000-1300, but can spend more for significant performance gains. As I do more  research, my inclinations are trending higher.
System Usage: My primary uses will include photo editing with Lightroom and Photoshop, 3D graphics using 3D studio Max, Maya and Mud Box, HD video editing using Premiere and After Affects and  Web Design. I will also use it as an HD media player and hifi audio is important. Maximizing cs6 performance in premiere & pShop is my main target. I am focused mainly on user experience while running these apps. If I need to encode hrs of video or crank out frames in max/maya, I can do it at work. I seldom run games.
Monitors: I'm running two Dell U2410's IPS, calibrated w\Color Munki, one portrait one lanscape.
Parts to Upgrade: Full system build
    O/S : Win7 Ultimate, I might play with Ubuntu/Virtualization
Vendor: Newegg unless I can save big $$ else where. I like B&H.
It needs to be an Intel machine & I have chosen lga 2011 becuase I'll eventually go to 64gb. I'll do some modest overclocking.
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you for your expertise.

I have picked the MSI motherboard due to its support for 128gb ram, superior audio and other high end features. The AS Rock for its rep for solid value/performance. Opinions?
Finally, I would like some advice on video cards. I prefer nVidia to ATI, but I'm not sure which chip to go for. The six fifties are cheaper, but the 660 ti provides more CUDA cores.

    Alex,
I sure wish you would quick picking fights with lots of knowledgeable people just trying to help people build good PCs for running Adobe Premiere. (I am stating that based on not just this thread, but rather the strong challenges you seem to bring to about half of the threads that you've chosen to participate in).
I was the original poster to suggest that Neal select a larger case. Next Harm agreed and cited 6 points which I would agree with regarding why a larger box is better for a video editing rig.
What are the typical goals for someone wanting a video editing PC? I would expect that most users want:
    - robust, runs and never fails
    - has incredible power; face it, video editing with AVCHD is one of the most taxing applications a PC can face today
    - quiet; who wants to be doing creative work with any server room like wind noise
Now let me be specific where you are simply WRONG WRONG WRONG:
You stated: "Back pressure increases in larger spaces due to natural impedance of airflow (much like with electricity traveling over distance)"
Fact: Exactly the opposite; Back pressure decreases in larger spaces due to more room for the air to flow (much like thicker copper passes electricity with less resistance than a thin wire)
Your stated: "Open non-compartmentalized spaces are a recipe for hot spots - areas of turbulence with higher temperatures." and then cited a server room article talking about cooling air taking the path of least resistance -- going under the floor in a server room, instead of through rack mounted servers.
Fact: Lots of open space for large, slow moving fans to keep a video editing box cool is a great way to go
You stated: "Full towers - in themselves - are worse for cooling"
Fact: That is one crazy indefensible statement!
I seriously doubt that you fully comprehend the differences and importance of thermal conductivity, heat capacity, conduction, convection, and radiation for you to make the statements that you have so far and these are the staples for discussing how heat transfer takes place.
Note to other readers... There are lots of ways to cool components including cpus, hard drives, gpus and memory. I suspect that the noise levels brought by servers and some gamers would be totally offensive to the ambient noise level that you want in the room with you for video editing. Therefore we are left with just a few quiet alternatives: 1) lots of volume at low velocity (large cases, large fans, slow rpm), 2) liquid cooling, and 3) Cases with doors or baffles to keep the sound from a noisier solution from getting back to your ears.

    The Adobe XMP Team

    Hi,
i used the previous version of the java XMPCore. I tried to upgrade however i got the following exception (using java 1.5 and 1.6):
    java.lang.AbstractMethodError: javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory.setFeature(Ljava/lang/String;Z)V
        at com.adobe.xmp.impl.XMPMetaParser.createDocumentBuilderFactory(Unknown Source)
        at com.adobe.xmp.impl.XMPMetaParser.<clinit>(Unknown Source)
        at com.adobe.xmp.XMPMetaFactory.parseFromBuffer(Unknown Source)
        at com.adobe.xmp.XMPMetaFactory.parseFromBuffer(Unknown Source)
On further investigation the problem is, that you are trying to call a method
    factory.setFeature(XMLConstants.FEATURE_SECURE_PROCESSING, true);
on an abstract class however you are not catching that error, as you propably intended to.
The code has been introduced into the new version:
    class XMPMetaParser.java:
    try
// honor System parsing limits, e.g.
                // System.setProperty("entityExpansionLimit", "10");
                factory.setFeature(XMLConstants.FEATURE_SECURE_PROCESSING, true);
            catch (Exception e)
                // Ignore IllegalArgumentException and ParserConfigurationException
// in case the configured XML-Parser does not implement the feature.
The exception is of the type "Error" and thus won't be catched by the "catch (Exception)" block at this point. If you change the following to:
    try
// honor System parsing limits, e.g.
                // System.setProperty("entityExpansionLimit", "10");
                factory.setFeature(XMLConstants.FEATURE_SECURE_PROCESSING, true);
            catch (Throwable t)
// Ignore AbstractMethodError, IllegalArgumentException and ParserConfigurationException
// in case the configured XML-Parser does not implement the feature.
    or to
    try
// honor System parsing limits, e.g.
                // System.setProperty("entityExpansionLimit", "10");
                factory.setFeature(XMLConstants.FEATURE_SECURE_PROCESSING, true);
            catch(Error e){
// Ignore AbstractMethodError in case there is no implementation at all
            catch (Exception e)
                // Ignore IllegalArgumentException and ParserConfigurationException
// in case the configured XML-Parser does not implement the feature.
Everything is working as aspected again...

  • Premiere Pro CS6 serious error has occurred, crash troubleshooting

ERROR MESSAGE: Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project
Problem: Starting last night Premiere would crash with this error message. This has been happening increasingly more over the past couple weeks, but starting last night and today - it has happened so much that I cannot get more than 5 minutes of work done without it crashing. It has happened on saves, renders, playback, switching active timelines, removing the mojo effect from a clip, and while sitting dormant. I’ve had the computer less than a year and hope that it is not a serious problem with my RAM or graphics card.
Using Premiere Pro CS6 - subscription based with latest update installed
    SPECS:
    MacBook Pro Retina, Mid 2012
Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650 M 1024 MB
Software: OS X 10.9.1 (updated after problem started)
(nothing external from factory setup in terms of hardware)
Use an External USB 3.0 7200 RPM drive from OWC for project files
Use an External Seagate 3 TB drive for media storage
Using all DSLR footage from Canon 6D, Canon 5D mk II, and Canon 60D and audio from external recorders (.mov, .WAV, .wav files)
Third-party effects or codecs: Use Pluraleyes 3.0 and Mojo color from Red Giant
I realize this is a general error message and there are several forums posted from mostly more than 5 months ago. I cannot seem to find an answer that will help me. Here is what I have already tried:
    1. updated to Maverick
    2. checked for updates for Adobe software
    3. Cleared the Media Cache
    4. Switched from CUDA to software only
    5. Updated CUDA and switched back to CUDA in premiere
    6. Held SHIFT while starting up (nothing seems to happen or pop up on screen at least)
    Next:
—Going to uninstall Premiere and reinstall.
Any suggestions or possible fixes are great appreciated. What should my next step be?

    UPDATE:
    STEP 1:
Uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere - worked without crashing for the longest time since yesterday. After 1 hour of running - it crashed once again with same error message and same report (see below).
    Same as before:
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000000
    STEP 2:
--Updated the RED GIANT plugin "mojo" (minor coloring software)
This worked for less than 10 mintues and then crashed again - but this time with different exeception details (I'm not sure what these mean)
    Crashed Thread:  2
    Exception Type:  EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP)
    Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000
    Application Specific Information:
*** CFRelease() called with NULL ***
    STEP 3:
Going off of the idea that it may be the plugin causing the issue (since it needed to be updated) I went into the project and deleted all of the files containing this effect in this project file (note: i have used this for 10+ projects on this computer with no trouble).
I thought it was fixed, from about 8:00 PM - 11:45 PM no crash - then as I was playing back clips - crashed again.
I have been loosely following these guidelines: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/troubleshoot-system-errors-freezes-mac.html
I am not sure where to go from here - should I continue into the "advanced troubleshooting" even though I'm not sure if any of these things are related.
IMPORTANT NOTE: I have launched two other Premiere Project Files (from previously completed projects) successfully without crashing. I tested a few things in the projects before returning to the problem project. If I suspect there is a problem with the file in particular - how do I find out what is causing the problem?
--I already removed MOJO effects thinking that could be the issue from the last files that were
--I have already gone back to a previous version from a week ago and imported the Sequence I needed. Still crashed.
I have sent 5+ reports to Adobe on the crash. Any feedback into this is much appreciated.
