Feedback: nice but no so..

i recently bought a Playbook and I updated the device to the latest OS. I would like to share my impression and feedback.
First the hardware looks pretty good: right size, right handling, the OS ist really smooth. The OS is really good as well: fast, simple, mail and calendar software are nice (especially compared to default software on Android). The web browser is good and i can see my podcast in Flash.
Many friends were imoressed and are ordering Playbook.
But there are some bad stuff. Please RIM listen and comments:
- the music player is "poor". I can not easily make playlist, ogg/vorbis are not supported, no cover search on Internet, no sleep time... Look at player like PowerAMP on Android. please, add at least ogg/vorbis, FLAC and sleep. Those feautres are dead easy to implement.
- USB OTG. Yes you cann. I used to play with QNX and i know it works. Allow to mount stick, to use keyboard and mice. Next step: allow developer to acces usb storage. I am a photograph: i want to control my dslr just like i do on Android. It. Is a super feature and make the Playbook better than the iPad on this point
- do a real dock with HDMI, charging, usb, audio, (and lan ?)
- make an even better browser
- supply a podcast application, an usable file manager,
- allow to put the device i sleep in x minutes
- allow to mount network share like nfs and samba. Here again i did myself on QNX as i worked on an embedded solution for a german company. You just have to unlock it. And yes itis a big selling point for home and business user.
As an example: you prepare your presentation on your deskop pc and store the file on the conpany network. Then use the playbook to show it into the meeting room.

Well, warranty do not cover damages anyway, and services are only in country of purchase (that's U.S.A.)
You can try if in Brazil Apple Store offers Out of Warranty replacement for a fee, otherwise you have to ask your friends/relatives to bring to US for that service.

Sorry you cannot go back to previous version once your are updated to the latest iOS version.
Apple prevents downgrading your phone.

Multiple nics but no ping

Hello-
I suck at Linux and networking, especially when someone takes away all the extras.... That said I really like Arch because I'm finally learning what I really need (or am missing) and what it's used for. I'm currently running Arch64 in a box with 3 nics as a host for VirtualBox. All of the nics appear to setup with their static IP correctly and even respond to pings from outside. Unfortunately, when I try to test connectivity with the following command, I just get errors:
ping 4.2.2.2 -I eth2
eth1 is my default for the system and I want eth0 and eth2 assigned to the virtual servers using 'internal networking'. But I can't seem to get anything through eth0 or eth2. Here's my rc.conf file followed by 'route' output, not sure what else I can provide to help. Thanks in advance!

It sounds from Tomks post that it's now confirmed that I don't know what I'm doing... Putting all the nics on separate subnets would not be an issue, i was just being lazy and trying to use the existing dmz with no modifications. What's the best way to configure the extra nics? If I put them all on separate subnets, would I need to specify the other gateways in rc.conf?

Arch linux won't see NIC, but Ubuntu LiveCD does

Just upgraded my second box and I'm trying to get linux on it. Problem is I can't get it to see my NIC at all, but the Ubuntu Live CD sees it just fine. I know I have a Realtek 8168/8111 network controller.
Running lspci on my installed based system and I see Network Controller: Unknown Device 0001:8168 (rev 01)
running lspci on the Ubuntu CD and it says Realtek Semiconductor 8168/8111 device (rev 01) (or something like that)
Now if I run lspci -H 1 I see Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor RTL811/8168 PCI Express Gigabit ethernet controller
I've tried manually loading the r8169 module, and it does load. Eth0 still doesn't exist. When trying to start the network I get Error, eth0: iocrtl SIOCGIFHWADDR: No such device
I tried updating the pci.ids file but that didn't help. I'm almost positive it just isn't detecting the hardware right, but Ubuntu does just fine. What can I do to fix this?

Coverflow nice but what about spineflow?

I love the new cover browser feature in iTunes (coverflow) but I think it would be great if they also incorporated a spine feature. When I look through my cd's I only look at the spines of the cases and that's generally how I recognise what cd i'm looking for. So then you could flick through all of your music, by spine, and then pull out your chosen album.
What does everyone think?

IWeb is very nice, but it crashes...

First I'd like to post my VERY positive opinion I have of iWeb '08 -- this is truely a perfect tool to get a nice looking web site up quickly and with minimal effort. I currently have my web site hosted by another ISP that is running Windows IIS based server, but my site is still very functional (http://www.nocomsleft.com).
My only small complaint is that iWeb has crashed on me a few times (fortunately I save frequently) -- unfortunately I can't always replicate the problem, but it usually involves the drag and drop of graphics files -- if I do this rapidly, I get the color wheel of death soon followed by "...please report this problem to Apple..." message.
Anyone else having iWeb crashes?

1st laptop that i used for ALL my downloads & playlist creations.unfortunately, it was wasorrupted & would have cost me as musch as a "cheap" laptop (ended p w?Toshiba 505d whoich is gtrat if i could figure out how to use windows 7 & hoe far apart the keys are from my Gateway)
anyhow- since i can only "authorize" 5 pcs & now im at 3 but 1 is in the greaqt heaven of corrupted laptop drivers- can apple reset my authorizing from 3 back to 2 pcs? i mean what happens iif i crash these also? of course trying to get an answer from them meaqns that you have to pay or speak for 10 hs fron someone in Indai-no joke i did it with my Dell Desktop!
2nd question, i had some nice & cute playlists fron the 80s,90s,(yes im that old-get over it but they are no longer on my nano or my desktop which i sync to my nano. but i always get asked " do you weant to sync to this ituens& erase ot transfer then erase either the one or theother nut i cant have two seperate libraries which i dont want ne ways.
i want to use my new laptop as my mian itunes downlaoeder & playlist creater and then just "sync" it up to my desktop as a mirroe image of the mi=y nano & Oter itunes.

If and when you hit the max of 5 authorized computers, if some of those are old/dead machines, you can reset your authorizations, and then reauthorize those few computers that you still have. See "To deauthorize all computers associated with your account" in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420. But you can only do that when you hit the maximum of 5. I was in precisely your situation, I didn't worry about it, and when I hit 5, I deauthorized all the computers and reauthorized the few computers that were still alive, and everything was good. If you're really concerned about this and would just like to get it behind you, you theoretically could find another two computers that you could quickly temporarily authorize for your account, get it to the magical 5 authorizations, immediately deauthorize them all (via that support article), and then you're back to zero. Note, I think you can only do this "deauthorize all" function once a year, so be careful.

Yeah, if you want to automatically sync your nano with iTunes, you'd have to agree to replace your nano's content with that on your computer. You theoretically could change to managing your music manually (apparently lots of people do that anyway), but then you're in a world that if you want music on your nano, you have to manually drag it from your main iTunes library onto your nano. I find that manual management of music enough of a hassle that I personally would have thought that you'd want to take your lumps, rebuild those playlists on your desktop, now. But managing music manually is certainly an option.

I have created a specific-feedabck quiz, but when you take this quiz no feedback is given when you press Submit. Also at the end of the quiz the results is always a 0, even if all questions are answered correctly

Like Sreekanth, I would like to have some more information as well. 'Specific feedback': are you talking about Advanced Answer options for MCQ? Or are you pointing to the specific Review Message on the scored slide?
As for the results: how did you test, preview (preferably in browser) or after publishing? Can you check Advanced Interaction view (F9) to check if all question slides, scored objects have been set to report and to add to the Quiz Total? Are you perhaps using Pretest questions and or Submit All option?
As for the version you are using: could you please give the detailed version number?

IWeb, nice but lacking finesse...

I have tried iWeb, it's a nice little app, and quite useful, but with regards to templates, well, I have found them very juvenile, for families and hobby stuff, and think that Apple should at least offer another, more sophisticated level of templates, with all the bells and whistles, for professional users.
Just my opinion, and it's not meant to be a negative, just maybe a suggestion for future versions (?)

Agreed - $16 for what we have in just version 1.0 was well worth MY money.
I have refined and tagged the template XML pretty extensively now and I hope to be able to take a design all the way to a template in a very short amount of time but realistically, iWeb template business won't get going until 1) iWeb supports user generated templates and 2) drag and drop page widgets.
Not sure we'll see all that in version 2.0... If August Trometer (http://wwwfoggynoggin.com) gets his template editor up and running soon, at least what I'm doing will be FAR more easy for those who want to install the altered Apple templates I've been building.

HT5429 The new iOS 6 Maps App looks nice, but it cannot seem to find anything...

Is there some configuration I need to set up to allow it to find locations? It will find things if I type the exact address, but that misses the point. HT201272 I purchased Season 3 of the Walking Dead. I cannot download the second episode of the season; corrupted file. I submitted a feedback form, but they do not send a reply. I tried to use the online help/support, got an error code for that page.

I just want my content. I am frustrated at trying to get on-line help. Either I will not get a reply to my feedback form, or the online support page has an error code, with "please try again later" or "start over". I have paid for this content, and cannot download their corrupted file.

Are you in a country where TV shows can be re-downloaded - if you are then have you tried deleting that copy from your iTunes library and re-downloading it via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes ?
When you say that you used the feedback page, do you mean the feedback page (which you won't get a reply to) or the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history on your account or the contact iTunes Support page ?
'report a problem' : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that song and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours).
contact iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption (if this page doesn't work then have you tried clearing your browsers history/cache and/or tried a different browser ?)

Database Link, nice but drops

I have a database link to a remote site (staging server to live server).
All is well until I throw quite a lot of data (some data from a table full of BLOBs), at which point I get, for example...

Does this indicate a problem with our network in someway (it is happy with transfering small tables of rows etc)? Is there any way I can cause it to 'resume' as FTP would on a transfer, or is there a timeout property I need to set somewhere or something?
Staging server (data being transfered FROM) is 8.1.7 on Win2K (to patch level 8.1.7.0.2), Live server (data being transfered TO) is 8.1.6 on Win2K (to patch level 8.1.6.1.2)

Well I would start by checking the O/S event logs to see if it tells you if there is anything up with your protocol, hw, etc ?
I would also turn on the Oracle trace to see what it says ?
You cannot resume your operation in fact Oracle will rollback your insert as soon as it detects an abnormal end to the SQL exec thread which will occur when you lose the TNS connect.
Gut reaction sounds like you are timing out on the network. Just a guess. Have you tried upping the SDU and TDU values in your connect string ?

Facebook & Flickr: nice but need some finishing touches.

I'm desperate for a marked to published option in both Flickr and Facebook.
Flickr (for me) retains the comments when a photo is republished which is great, however comments are removed if a photo is updated in Facebook, is there a reason for this? Adobe? There is a warning dialogue box for FB so i am thankful for that.
So basically i just need a way to stop some photos from being republished, wether it's to keep the comments from being deleted or simply because i tweaked a particular image for a print.
A menu or mouse click option would be great, or even better to be able to drag a thumb from marked to republish back to published (no harm no foul).
I really hope this doesn't start a 'FB doesn't work at all on my machine thread'. It worked great for me on my Macbook Pro using Safari as my default browser but it's far from obvious how to set this feature up and was like stumbling around in the dark.
It's really great to have these features at all in Lightroom so i hope this is taken lightly as constructive criticism.

I think you will find this is a Flickr issue. You require a Flickr paid for account to republish images without removing comments, on unpaid account the behaviour is the same as Facebook. I assume when Facebook charges foir accounts it will release an api that allows this to happen as has Flickr, I would guess that Facebook and Flickr are both trying to make a few quid and Facebook can see how Flickr persuade some to pay cash to have a little pro next to their name and think...that's a good idea.
