Feedback on Apple iPhone

Hi,
I recently purchased an iPhone 3G. I have spent the past 10 days babying it at every turn. The primary problems are:
1) Dog poor cell phone signal continuity - I now only run in Edge and the signal continuity is still unstable (dropped calls) at many locations here in Albuquerque
2) The phone frequently locks up and deletes iTunes content
I already returned the original phone due to reception problems. I first visited AT&T but the new SIM card did not improve the situation. I researched and then discovered I gained improved operation if I run with the 3G switched off. Nevertheless, the cell phone stability is still wanting with 3G deselected.
I have read and run every possible on-line fix. I have been to the Genius Bar. I have called AppleCare. I then did the following aggressive fix with no definitive success:
- Ensured OS 10.4.11 was current
- I deleted all expressions of prior iPhone files on my computer
- I accomplished all steps in Article HT1747: “iPhone and iPod Touch. How to remove and reinstall the Apple Device Service on Mac OS X”. This includes deleting and updating to the latest version of iTunes.
- Then I went into the phone and selected “Erase All Content and Settings”
- Upon completion I connected to iTunes 7.7.1 and selected “Restore” and of course in the process downloaded and upgraded to 2.0.1.
- Finally I synced the phone with music, apps, photos and podcasts
- This complete process took a solid six hours (there were many prior hours invested in less aggressive measures)
The phone for past 24 hours has locked up twice when I was running the iPod and Safari at the same time (No third party Apps)
I have Reset (simultaneous sleep and home button) both times to clear up the problem. Each time after reseting the iPhone the phone worked normally…until the next lockup. This admittedly is an improvement. Prior to the aforementioned aggressive fix I would lose all of my iTunes music and video (podcast) content after a lockup.
I have been a proud Mac user since June 2005. You make some really good products. I stand behind my iMac G5 and Time Capsule. They rock.
I just retired from 20 years in the US Air Force. I am a pilot and engineer by trade. I have converted many friends to Apple products because I know they would not go wrong. Every curve ball my friends throw at me I research and find a solution. Until the iPhone 3G I have believed in the stability and quality of Apple products.
I do not glibly give negative comments. With this said my iPhone 3G experience is abysmal. Please salvage this situation and return to providing superior products.

I have already reported the issues to the manager of the store in my town, and she notified me that she was working on getting the issue up the chain of command.
The feedback form is a one-way communications channel, and I find it unacceptable to use in a situation where numerous users are experiencing the same issues over and over. It is unlikely that my complaint is unique, however I've tried to be as detailed as possible here so that others in the forums can focus and refine the issue so that we may become aware of what the real problem is with the unit.
I love the product, but it is clearly flawed in some fundamental way. It is far better to get this out in the open to discuss, rather than ***** and moan about it aimlessly.
I'm keeping my headset, and will continue providing as much feedback here in the forums as necessary as I work to establish a cause and solution.
