Feedback on Skype 6.21.85.104 preview for Windows

Hi Skype team, thanks for the update.
Here's some feedback/requests/criticism for you as you've requested as such:
(Claudius, they asked for feedback and not "suggestions" and not in any specific area here: http://blogs.skype.com/2014/10/09/improved-skype-desktop-clients-for-a-dynamic-new-chat-experience/)..."Give it a try, and let us know what you think. We’ll be closely following your feedback onTwitter, Facebook, and the Skype Community."
1. Mood status should be editable below my name in the top left, adjacent to my user pic, and not only in the "profile" popup when clicking on the blue bar.
2. Recipient chat bubble colour can stay the same blue colour. Sender colour should be distinctly different and not a different shade of blue. It should be the green colour skype used to use.
(Hell, you guys could get REALLY crazy and allow sender/recipient chat bubble colours to be completely customisable! Crazy, I know).
3. User picture bubble in above chat should be perhaps 10% larger than it currently is. On a 27" display @ 2560x1440 I cannot even make out any distinct features of their face. It's just too small.
4. Scrollbar for navigating user list on the left hand side is too small and doesn't adhere to Win32 scrollbar standards by using the system scrollbar. The right hand side for navigating conversations does adhere to Win32 and uses the system scrollbar. Please change it back to the system default Win32 scrollbar. Over 51% of your users are more than likely on Windows 7, and only 8-10% on WIndows 8/8.1/8.1 Update 1 with the different scrollbar kit. It's best to stick with what the system uses.
If I find more I'll update it as I go along; these are just my first impressions.
Thanks!

My feedback: I don't want this. Ever.
I don't want this text-bubble bullcrap. It's cluttering and annoying to look at. I don't want to see these tiny versions of avatars either, they're cluttering and won't be very visible either way. If I want to look at their avatar, I will click on their profile or talk to them 1:1. Actually, I do indeed enjoy the look of the current skype. Minimalistic. My only problem with your mess is that it's 100% WHITE. It burns the eyes and causes actual pain to tab into.
I cannot imagine how this UI is going to work out in large group chats. I'm in multiple, and all I can see is hell. Especially with image previews like this? Plain and simple, you're asking for disaster.
Why do you, Microsoft, continue to give us things we don't ask for? Why has the suggestion for themes been "under consideration" for nearly a year? I don't understand, but at this point, I don't care. I really do hope a new IM/Call program emerges from the shadows and people start moving there. I'm beginning to really despise Skype, and for good reason.
If anything, please make this "dynamic new" garbageexperience optional. That's my feedback, and I pray that you will take what I say into consideration. Then again, you probably won't. Because you're Microsoft.
In any case, I'm going to keep my skype not updated for as long as I possibly can to avoid this calamity waiting to happen. Maybe you'll learn from the backlash of the last time you forced us to update and let us use the program the way we want to, as consumers.

  • Inconsistent font style behavior on Edge Reflow CC (Preview) for Windows

Adobe Edge Reflow CC Preview for Windows has wildly inconsistent behavior regarding font styles. Why is there no button for bold in the UI? Why do I have to type "bold" into the Weighting dialog text box to have my styled text render as such in Chrome? Why does text inside a box/div styled with the italics button render in Reflow but not in Chrome?

    Hey there,
The font weight can be changed here:
With CSS there are both text values such as "bold" and numerical values from 100-900 usually. We gave you the ability to use either.
If you are seeing issues with a font rendering set to italic in Reflow and not in previewing properly in Chrome, can you let me know the typeface you are using? I'd like to check it out as well.

  • Uninstalling Quicktime Preview for Windows

Hi. I bought an iPod some days ago and was gonna install iTunes. As the installation proceeded right at the end this shows up:
"This installer cannot upgrade the Preview of Quicktime 7 for Windows. You must first remove it." or something like that as I am Swedish.
I have uninstalled everything I could that had something with Quicktime to do, I have cleaned the registry and also searched for 'Quicktime' and removed everything there.
Though still I cannot install either iTunes or QuickTime.
    Appreciate answers.

QuickTime for windows error -2048 has been consistant for many moons. With not opening file formats that are not supported. Unlikely caused by a battery or camera...

  • `Skype 7 not working & freezing screen for Windows...

I upgraded from Windows 7 Home Basic to Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64bit) 2 days back, and since then facing problem installing and running Skype. Skype 7 was working perfect on Home Basic. After reading through the various options given in the Forum, I have tried all the suggestions as below, but everytime there was a problem.
    Re-Installed Win 7 Ultimate X64 for around 5times - no resolution
    Re-Installed Skype 7 for around 10-15times - no resolution
Completed Windows Update - no resolution
Upgraded to IE 11 with all the patches.
Got latest version of Adobe Flash - no resolution
Got Latest version of Direct X - no resolution
Got latest JRE - no resolution
Tried changing the Compatibility Settings of Skype by right-click on the Desktop Icon - no resolution.
%appdata%\Skype\Apps renaming the Login folder and creating the shortcut of Skype icon side the Phone directory - no resolution
%temp%\Skype delete folder - no resolution
There were suggestions to install old versions of Skype - did that too but the same problem of freezing
Now, this is what I am facing:- Skype would install fine. (I learnt and unchecked "Run at Startup). Now when I click on the Skype desktop icon, two cases occur, either entire Windows would freeze or initially Skype would show a blank/white screen and become un-responsive eventually & then freeze the windows. Even Skype website would freeze the browser at times.

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool (32-bit option only).
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

  • Skyp file transfer on LAN slow for windows and Mac...

    Hi,
We are extensively use skype and since we upgrade skype to 6.18 and above ... file transfer on LAN is super slow... to transfer file 200MB it took over 15 minutes but when i'm skype 6.16 it took about 45 seconds... can anyone lemme know to fix it or tweak it on both Mac and windows so i can speed up file transfer on LAN....

I've been experiencing the same issue. I keep having to downgrade to 6.16 and cancel automatic updates for this same reason. It's really frustrating as my work involves sendig and receiving files via Skype. Versions 6.18 and up not only are too slow (a large file, for example, that would normally take 18 hours or less to transfer takes 1 week! on 6.18 and higher) but also slow down my whole connection while surfing. 6.16 allows me to transfer at a fast speed and I can watch videos and have a 256k livestream radio going, be on a skype call and still have enough speed to download from the Internet without slowing anything down. This is completely unacceptable. I see that no one has replied to this and nothing has been done to fix this issue. I wonder if Skype even browses through these.

  • Unable to download JDeveloper .0.4.0, preview for Windows

The last link in the chain:
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/jdeveloper/903/jdev9040.zip
just redirects me to a page that says "Page not found. (Error Document 404". This is the link for the complete install, but the others seem ot be the same. I really need this update to solve a problem, so it'd be great if download links would actually work...

I'm sorry I have to say this, but the OTN site has been nothing but trouble the last couple of days. :-( All I got was 503 and 404 errors. Terrible.

Please help to get Skype 6.21.0.104 version, I could not find anywhere available and valid link for download this version.

What is the version of Internet Explorer installed on your computer?
In Internet Explorer go to Help -> About Internet Explorer.
Do you have the latest Flash Player for Internet Explorer installed?
Open this link in your Internet Explorer:

P.S. Please, don’t say that you are not using Internet Explorer. This is irrelevant. Skype depends on Internet Explorer.

  • Why is my SkypeOut credit not showing with Skype 6.22.81.104

Another way of not letting US control our own money. I will be reverting to the old version.

Hello Why is my SkypeOut credit no longer shown with my name? I have two versions of Skype om my computer. The first, which came pre-installed with my new Asus Laptop and Windows 8.0 and now Windows 8.1. I do not know the version of the pre-loaded Skype as it lacks in functionality.  It is definitely the worst  version of Skype that has ever been designed and I have used Skype since (approx 2004) shortly after it was first created. I recently downloaded Skype 6.22.81.104 for Windows desktop and added it to my Asus laptop because of all the frustrating problems I have had with the pre-installed Skype. Although this version is better then the pre-installed version it is lacking of very good features that were on the earlier versions. On all previous versions of Skype (including W 8.1 pre-installed version), my SkypeOut credit was always displayed with my Skype name.  With Skype 6.22.81.104 I must click on my profile to see my credit.  Why? Why? Why can't I see it anymore with Skype 6.22.81.104? I have checked all the Skype set-up possibilities and can't find a solution. I also checked Skpye Help and Community and have not found an answer. How do I correct this? Please instruct the program designers to leave good ideas from past Skype version in any updates they do. Also please get rid of the big bulky/blocky Windows Skype version.  Also stop it taking the full screen - allow us to reduce the Skype screen size. Thank you.

  • Submit: Great Skype for Windows Phone ideas

We have just launched a new Windows Phone idea board to let you all share and exchange your ideas on how to improve and develop Skype for Windows Phone.
Before you start sharing your ideas, here are some guidelines to help you get started:
    Idea Submission Guidelines
Search before posting. Do a quick search and make sure you are not submitting a duplicate. If the idea already exists show your support by giving kudos to the original idea rather than watering down the potential impact across multiple submissions.
Draft your idea. Be as clear as possible, tell us what your idea is, how it would benefit users and why you think we should consider it. That will not only help us to better understand what you want, but we may even be able to solve your problem more quickly another way. Please avoid text speak and keep the idea short and to the point. Ideas are available within a limited number of topic sections of the community as they are not discussion threads.
Currently you can choose one of the following topic labels for your ideas:
    Video Messaging
We‘ve just launched Video Messaging on Windows Phone so you can now send video messages to family and friends, even when they’re not online. Let us know what you think of Video Messaging on Windows Phone and any ideas you have for how we can make it better.
    Phone Integration
Tell us how you would like Skype to be integrated with Windows Phone. Would things be easier if Skype was better integrated with the People Hub? Integrated into the messaging app? Or in the dial pad?
    Contacts
How can we make it easier for you to find friends and family on Skype and add them as a contact? What are your thoughts on how contacts are managed on Skype for Windows Phone? Do you have any recommended improvements?
    Calling
Tell us how you would like Skype to be integrated with Windows Phone. Would things be easier if Skype was better integrated with the People Hub? Integrated into the messaging app? Or in the dial pad?
    Instant Messaging
Video calling is one of Skype’s most popular features. What do/don’t you like about Video calling on Skype for Windows Phone and do you have any ideas for how we can make video calling even better?
    Some things to include:
    Start with a clear title
    add appropriate label(s)
    list features and benefits
Review the ideas of others. Look at other ideas to see what your fellow community members are requesting and feel free to exchange on them in the comments section. While we take into account the numbers of kudos an idea receives, we also consider the amount and quality of member feedback when making our decisions.
Add value. Vote for those items that you like and agree with by giving the idea a kudos. It's really a significant way to recognize someone's effort. We are using votes as a barometer to find out more about what our contributor community thinks is important, so we can factor this into our prioritization process.
Submit a new idea. Adding an idea is just like posting a message on a board. To create an idea, click on the “New Idea” button, located on the left side of the page content tab, and in the left column under the actions heading click “create an idea”. Be sure to enter a clear title and description of your idea so others can decide how they would like to vote. Remember, the more complete your thought, the more likely it is to get noticed! You can use simple HTML, format the text, or add links or images. You can also preview your idea and check your spelling before you post the idea.
Do not be discouraged. Sometimes what seems simple may not be so simple to build. Some ideas take longer than others, and some ideas will not be possible within the scope of what we want to accomplish in the next year or so.
Be respectful. Comply with the Community Guidelines and Skype etiquette.

What do the different idea statuses mean?
We strive to review submitted ideas on a biweekly/monthly cycle. Each idea will go through a life cycle that will be assigned statuses at each milestone. The statuses are explained here:

You can track the status of your ideas as your ideas are sent to the people here at Skype who can make them happen and you will see the status of your idea is updated. No, you can't. Be sure to check your spelling and preview your comment before you post it; you can't edit a comment once it's posted.
Who and how often moderates/ manages the ideas board?
The community team is monitoring the board on the daily basis and product managers will come in on a monthly basis to update statuses of the ideas and post their comments.
If Skype decides not to pursue my idea, will you tell me why?
We do not always provide the reasons for our decisions regarding ideas submitted for review but will strive to provide an explanation where possible.
I have an idea to improve the Windows Phone software itself?
Microsoft has set up a Windows Phone Feature Suggestion Box for exactly that purpose. Share your idea here: http://windowsphone.uservoice.com
If I am not comfortable submitting my idea over the Internet, is there another way I can do so?
    No.

I would really appreciate if you guys work on the feature “ custom backgrounds for chat notifications”.If users will be able to choose any image of their liking in the custom background feature if would add value. Currently some of the chat messengers provide this facility to the users which makes interesting to the users while improving user friendliness and satisfaction. Options that would include areTake a photoChoose from albumsSearch from webDeleteThat appears to be a reasonably robust selection. In search, a user can use a built in engine to pull up images based on search and then select it as it their choice. Once you chose an image, it will be asked to confirm and ‘set’ as the universal chat window for all contacts.

Wait!! If you about to post a reply to this thread this post is for you!
You guys who have posted obviously have not read the first sentence of the long OP, let alone the whole thing.
    This is the wrong place.
Post them here which is formatted for handling requests:

If you are asking questions about skype issues this thread is really the wrong place lol. Getting an answer to yoru question will require a little effort on your part.
    First go here:
    https://support.skype.com/en/
Read through that page, if you want to narrow it down and search, use the search.
Since the search targets all skype forums, include which OS you are on.

  • Skype 6.1 for Windows Desktop with Outlook Integra...

Introducing Skype 6.1 for Windows, now with Outlook integration and a visual update to the toolbar. This is an exciting update because the time spent on email by many people is still significant. And if you're like many of us who work at Skype, we spend lots of time toggling between our email and Skype desktop clients. Now it's really convenient to send a Skype instant message, start a free Skype to Skype call, or make a call to any mobile or landline - all within Outlook.
NB: The Outlook integration does not work with the Outlook 2013 preview version. You need to either use Outlook 2010 or upgrade to the final Outlook 2013 once that is available.
More details showing the feature in use in several screenshots can be found in our Skype news blog article.
We'd love to hear about your experience trying it out. As we also did some minor tweaks and improvements and are happy to hear your feedback about this update by posting here on the Skype Community.

  • Unable to upgrade or install windows 10 enterprise technical preview from windows 8.1 pro

    Compaq Presario SR2034NX
    windows 8.1 pro build 9600 64 bit, x64processor
I have attempted a clean install booting from a burned dvd with the iso file on it using the windows 7 USB/DVD download tool, Ive attempted to boot from a usb using rufus. Ive even attempted to just run as administrator right from the download
    the setup file.
Installing via USB windows 10 opens the language screen but everything on my screen is distorted, ive tried to change my screen resolution to fix this. it did not work.  Once I managed to click my way to the next screen but windows 10 asked me
for a driver to be installed and I have no idea what driver that could be.
Installed via DVD and direct setup file windows 10 opens to the making sure your pc is updated.. then it downloads and says its installing. at the moment it finished installing and restarts the next screen is black and the windows wheel starts turning
it freezes.. about every minute to five minutes it will turn a bit more.. I left my pc in this state for a full 24hours without touching it and it never finished installing.
I have tried several different builds. I even downloaded bluestacks and ran windows 10 enterprise technical preview as a virtual and I was successful doing it this way but Ive already tested windows 10 on two other desktops and a laptop of mine and im ready
to make the switch. this is my last desktop to run windows 10 and its giving me a hard time.
can someone please help me figure this out

    Hi Metro1952,
I found the following link indicates that there is no official driver designed for Windows 8 or later:
Compaq Presario Media Center SR2034NX Desktop PC
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/Compaq-Presario-SR2000-Desktop-PC-series/3239110/model/3250934
So, there might be a compatibility issue.
Again, to prepare the USB installation, you need ensure that you boot from the USB device, I suggest you make a clean USB boot drive by using diskpart:
     DISKPART> list disk
DISKPART> select disk x (x is the USB drive letter)
    DISKPART> clean
    DISKPART> create partition primary
    DISKPART> select partition 1
    DISKPART> active
    DISKPART> format FS=NTFS QUICK
    DISKPART> assign
    DISKPART> exit
Then copy the all installation files to the root of the USB drive:

  • Preview -- two windows for one file?

    Hi,
I'm stumped by an amazingly simple problem: I want to have two or three Preview.app windows open (at different positions of) the same .pdf file, but I can't find any possibility short of duplicating the file, once for every window!
Where's the magic button I've missed so far?
    Thanks, Colin

    Hi, Cohi.
Adobe Acrobat (not the free Adobe Reader) has a function (WIndow > Split) that enables you to have two independent views of the same document.
Unfortunately, preview does not support this with PDFs. AFAIK, your workaround is one answer with Preview. Your only other option is to make copies of the Preview app (e.g. Preview 1, Preview 2) and open the same document in these different copies of Preview.
While Preview has evolved with each release, if one works heavily with PDFs, then one should buy Acrobat.
If you think Apple should add a Spilt view function in some future version of Preview, I suggest you submit a Mac OS X Feedback.
    Good luck!
