Feeling frustrated!! Help Needed - iTunes Match

I've been a long term user of Apple software and hardware but am really struggling to get my head around the below.
I have an iMac that contains a fairly extensive iTunes library (12070 tracks), i also use iTunes Match to enable me to stream all 12070 tracks to my iPhone and iPad. This works like a dream, all tracks were successfully scanned and placed within the cloud and were accessible on my iPad and iPhone.
Here comes the interesting part....
My iTunes library was/is a complete mess, albums were under incorrect genres (based on my opinion), a couple of tracks within albums were missing, artwork was missing, titles were incorrect etc. I finally decided to take the plunge and update all 12070 tracks and albums so they were perfectly setup (correct genre, first letter of ever word was capitalised, art work was correct, etc), but realised this would take a long time especially as I'm rarely at home to update via my iMac. I decided it would be easier if I had access to my iTunes library and the ability to update it on the move so purchased a reasonably priced MacBook air For this reason. I setup the MacBook downloaded all tracks from the iTunes match cloud and started the painful task of updating. I'd update a hundred or so tracks at a time and then update iTunes match to ensure everything was saved. The new album names, artwork, track numbers etc all saved fine. When I closed the macbook down and rebooted the following day all changes and updates were saved, it worked brilliantly. The changes were visible almost instantly on my iPad and iPhone.
6000+ tracks into the update I decided to switch my iMac on to see whether these changes had taken effect on my iMac library. I launched iTunes on the iMac iTunes Match automatically started, upon completion. I noticed that non of the changes I'd made on the MacBook had synced to the iMac, in fact it had pulled the iMac infortmation (the unorganised thing) into the cloud and pushed that onto my MacBook, iPad and iPhone. This means that about a months wth of work and updates are wasted.
Could somebody pleeeeeaaase help!!! What is the best way for me to be able to organise my iTunes library on my MacBook and push is to all other devices inc my iMac.
Should I switch match off on my iMac, but I'm not sure how I'd get updates from my MacBook across?
Should I delete the library on my iMac, just update on the MacBook and then switch match on on the iMac so it pulls the correct info?
Ive heard f home sharing but am unsure whether this will work?
Bascially I just one one organised synced library across all devices and I want the ability to update via the MacBook and these updates to push across to everything else.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
The changes should filter through to all other computers. I often make changes on my other computer which only streams music from the cloud - these changes usually appear quickly on my main computer. I also have copy of my main library on an external drive - I open this regularly. Changes appear. However, the changes are not on the scale of those being made by you.
I suggest that the next time you open the original library on your iMac, don't let match scan your library. Have match turned on but if the automatic scan starts stop immediately - don't select update iTunes match. I believe that the changes you have made are lost because your iMac library has been scanned before the library has been updated.

All of your computers content are available in the AppleTV section called "Computer".  This is where you will find your music.
The Music section of the AppleTV is only for those who subscribed to iTunes Match.

  • Help; Using iTunes match to transfer from iPad to new PC

Regarding iTunes match. My PC crashed and the only other place I have my library is on my iPad (shame on me). I bought iTunes match last night to upload my library from my iPad so I could get it onto my new PC, but when I went to turn Match on in my iPad, it said it will delete over my existing library and replace it with songs in the cloud.  I DO NOT WANT THIS to happen! The iPad is the place I want to transfer FROM.  Of course my purchases are there in the cloud, but Match is for sharing/transferring all music, including burned cd collections, which is the majority of what I have. I don't dare turn on Match unless I know that my music library (and burned cd collection) on the iPad will FIRST be uploaded to the cloud and THEN written over.  It says this nowhere on Apple pages.  Please please help.

    Hi,
iiTunes match scans your library on your computer not your ipad. So you will need to transfer your music from your ipad to your computer. If your music has not been added to your computers library, you are likely to lose music on your ipad.
You will need an app to do the transfer. This doc may help Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device

  • Help Needed-iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.

    Hey guys,
I have had this extremely frustrating problem that just recently started occurring with iTunes. I have read many discussion forums but can’t seem to find a working solution. The problem is every time I try to open iTunes I get an error message that says “iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.” The same thing happens when I try to open Quicktime as well.
I have tried every solution suggested in these forums. I have completely uninstalled Quicktime and iTunes along with their components (Bonjour, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, etc.) and then reinstalled each of them but the problem still remains. I do NOT use iTunes for my iPod (I do not own one) I simply use iTunes to listen to my music.
I have also tried the methods of installing Quicktime by itself and not with iTunes but the problem still remains. I have tried every solution I have seen. The only method I have not tried is completely removing all files and folders that have to do with iTunes because I am worried if I delete those files with all the music I have bought it will have to be downloaded again or lost.
This is the “Error Signature” that is on the error report when I try to open iTunes.
AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 9.0.2.25 ModName: ntdll. dll
    ModVer: 5.1.2600.5755 Offset: 0001b21a
There was A LOT more information in the “Error Report Contents” but it would have taken me all night to type it all accurately. If that is what is needed then I am willing to provide any other information about this problem in hope of getting some useful suggestions or solutions. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!

that's been happening to me all day! i hope someone answers soon. bought my daughter an itunes card for christmas and now can't use it

  • HELP NEEDED - iTunes.exe -Corrupt File

I am getting this error message everytime I plug in my iPod to update thru iTunes.
    iTunes.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory/iPod_ControliTunes/TempFile is corrupt & unreadable.
    Please run the Chkdsk utility.
So my question is....how do I backup all the songs and playlists so that I do not lose them. And then do I just run the dist that came with the iPod to start it over again and if so do I delete the old Itunes?
Plese help I would like to save the songs, restore iTunes somehow and be able to bring back the songs with nothing lost.

In Windows, the default location of your songs is:
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
Your 'iTunes library' file which hold all playlists, locations of songs, ratings etc. is located in:
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
Copy the complete iTunes directory to your backup device.
That way, you will copy all songs and library information.
After fixing the problem with the corrupt file, put the files back to the location they came from (if necessary).
In my very limited experience with the chkdsk utility, no files were lost, but it is always wise to have a backup in case something goes wrong.
    Hope this helps.

    P.S.
You will probably get more help by posting in the iTunes for Windows forum (this is the Mac forum)

  • HELP NEEDED - iTunes refusing to update

I added artwork to my libary for each album i have, which was fine.
When i came to update my iPod however, i received an error message 'cannot find artwork file' and 'iPod cannot be updated'.
I restored my iPod to factory settings, but when i came to update, iTunes says 'update complete' even though it obviously is not.
I am now left with an iPod with no music on it, and am unable to update, which is very frustrating.

    Hi B!!
Sorry for the delay in coming back to you, been really busy. Okay, I followed your instructions, and managed to solve that problem. I then encountered various other problems, which I wont go into for the sake of my sanity lol, but instead of coming back and questioning you I searched the forus and found all the answers I needed. Most of them from you again funnily enough!!
In all it took the best part of 3 days to get in sorted and downloading fine. My computer knowedge is probably slightly above average, but some of the things I had to do to get there in the end was way over my head, but thanks to your great guidance notes I managed to get there, and must say Im thrilled with the end results. Am now in the process of downloading al my albums to the Ipod which is my new favourite most treasured possession
Anyway, thanks ever so much for the assistance again, if I encounter any more problems I know who to call!! Your a star, cheers.
    Ian.

  • Desperate help needed: Itunes and library in external drive

I've had for a few years my whole music library (files) in an external drive. Since the last versions (7 onwards), everytime I open ITunes I keep seeing my library in ITunes, but when trying to play, the link is lost.
Sometimes this happens after loosing the location of the external hard drive in preferences (pointing back to default my documents), other times keep the right location but the file links keep broken. I always switch on the drive before opening Itunes, so this mustn't be the problem.
Mates, got like 90 GB of music, which means that is virtually a nightmare to relink everything again.
I'll happreciate any help that you can give.
I've followed all the related tutorials and emails on how to keep Itunes on an external hard drive already.
    Thanks in advance

You HAVE to have the exHD operating before opening itunes. That is just the way it works.
Another common problem is Windows changing an exHD letter on you when you plug in a new device like a digital camera. That will mess up the paths in itunes....if itunes was told to look on the E: drive and suddenly Windows has changed it to F:
Make sure you assign a drive letter to your exHD that will not change.

And lastly, other software packages can meddle with itunes saving its ITL library database file. So make sure you make frequent backups of the ITL file, and possibly investigate what could be happening that it is not being saved correctly: security software, other media managers like Sony, Verizon, Songbird, Zune....
