Feeling very heated...

Hey,
I have a second hand powerbook G4 (obviously..) from my best friend, whom I know took very very good care of it. Recently, it has been heating up almost to the point where i can't have it on my lap anymore because it burns.
I just downloaded a program called iStat that tells me the temp of my computer is 144 degrees Fahrenheit. Although it has gone down to 126 in the last hour or so, it still feels horribly hot.
I am aware that I need to buy a new battery (bidding on one on ebay right now), but I have a feeling that won't fix it.. the heat is coming from the upper left corner, by where I plug it in to charge it.
My fans are working, but they sound kind of grind-y and they don't come on often at all. (unless that's the hard drive I'm hearing, either way I don't think it's supposed to grind. And if it is the HD, then why aren't my fans working?) the sound is coming from the center of my keyboard.
I hope that's enough information, if any of it is trivial, sorry, just trying to get as much information out so I can get as much help back as I can. I love this computer, I'd hate for it to burn itself out
Basically, my question is what is wrong with it? How do I fix it? And how much is it going to cost me?

A lot depends on what you are doing with it... light duty, or heavy. And what temp you are talking about.
I too have a program 'Temperature Monitor' that tracks different parts of this baby... some of the ranges on mine are:
Battery = 72 F - 91 F
Processor/Control = 86 F - 149 F
Processor Bottoms = 82 F - 148 F
Power Supply = 81 F - 128 F
Trackpad = 78 F - 102 F
So your 144 F is within my working range for the Processor. Some of the sensors have a Max temp set internal in them... one for the fan to come on and help cool, others shut down the computer, make it go to sleep (rather then cook the computer). This program will send me a screen or verbal alert if it gets close to that Max number that is internally set in the various components. But, I also try to let air circulate around it rather then putting on my lap (legs are about 85 F), which does not help it stay cool. Altho, your temp is not outlandish for a normal workload on these units.

After an update or installation, your MBP may take some time to index its files. Give it some time - but if you don't see any improvement, post here - you'll get an answer!

Κανε backup στο iTunes και μετά κάνε restore as new. Δηλαδή Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Content and Settings. Οταν τελειώσει θα έχουν σβηστεί όλα. Μην κανεις restore from backup. Δοκίμασε πρώτα νε δεις αν δουλεύει το wi-fi. Αν δεν δουλεύει πας στο service. Αν δουλεύει κάνε restore from backup. Αν το πρόβλημα ξαναεμφανιστεί τότε πρέπει να ξανακανεις restore as new και να το στησεις απο την αρχή. Αν δεν εμφανιστεί έχεις καθαρίσει. Μην ξεχάσεις να συγχρονίζεις επαφές και ημερολόγια πριν το restore.

Feel the heat

I know the iPhone 4 gives off more heat than the 3g or 3gs, but how much heat is too much? i've noticed it gets especially hot when the camera is on.

The upper right corner (when you look at the computer directly from the BACK) of my mac feels really warm to the touch. (I assume that's the spot where the processor is or something..?) Even the air around it feels warm. The fan hardly ever turns on.. it's maybe turned on only like 3 times this year. I know macbooks overheat sometimes, but this is a desktop computer.
I use my computer for a good half of the day (~12 hours). The activity monitor on average states that it's 70-80% idle. I don't use it too heavily, just listening to music, watching movies, internet browsing, or photoshop.
My question is - Is this harmful?
Will this heat everyday slowly fry the insides of my computer? Is the fan supposed to turn on more often? Is there an internal thermometer i can check?

Feel Very Stupid Asking This....But I Need An Answer

So, I've had my HP m6 for a good while (years) and just the other day, I was attempting to play a game on it...only for it to crash upon start up. After researching the issue, many people suggested updating the graphic drivers....and so I went on to research how to go about doing that.
I found my chip, it's an Intel...so I went to the Intel site, found my chip, and found a whole bunch of new(er) driver updates ready to be downloaded. I figured this would be easy...but it seems I can't download their updates...because HP has a lock on being able to do that. The other option was to come here and download the updates directly from the HP site...but this is where my main issue comes from. The last update that HP released for my chip and driver was back in 2012...while Intel has updates for my chip from May of 2014.
I really don't understand why this is...the way it is. But if someone could help me out...just give me a flat answer as to whether or not I have to buy a new computer just to play a game, or if there's some work around to where I can get the update I need in order to play...for free?

Existing customer out of contract feel very let do...

I am an infinity and all package customer paying on average £65 pound per month. I am however out of contract on my you view package. So I wanted to renew my contract and add multiroom. I was informed that the new box would-be 99 pounds. No I'm a New customer I said, yes but you've already had one free box from us !!! Charming and not impressed I am now Very tempted to leave. Anyone else had this problem?

the surface temperature of key board plane is very hot ( 107F ) when in normal operation without plug in the charger. Is it normal ???

The temperatures that your MBP will generate are a function of the number and types of applications in use. Until that is information is provided, no valid advice can be afforded you.
If you want to pursue this, download and install iStat menus:

Open Activity Monitor to ALL PROCESSES and set CPU to display values from high to low.
When you believe that your MBP is 'hot', take screen shots of both and post the images for inspection.

PSE13 repeatedly crashing when opening more than one file at a time to layer images. [was: Feeling very frustrated.]

Just bought Photoshop Elements 13. I have a Macbook Pro that meets all the requirements. I have installed and reinstalled the program but it just keeps crashing. The program will load, when I choose the expert tab and try to open more than one file at a time to layer images it just crashes and says "Photoshop Elements has closed unexpectedly" Can anyone help me please?

HT4623 Updating has cuased my phone to freeze!! Feeling VERY frustrated!!

My phone froze this morning during an update. The screen shows an itunes icon and the cable with an arrow pointing up. Have turned it iff and on with no luck in clearing up the issue. Suggestions?

TS2755 So updated my ios to the new version now that its been completed it wont allow me to activate imessage or facetime...feeling very frustrated, I've reset my network settings, I've also turned the phone completely off & on again & it still wont work.

1. Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings.
2. Settings -> Messages -> Sign into iMessage with your AppleID.
3. Your phone number and your AppleID will show up, and my phone number was checked by default. Just make sure your phone number is checked.
