***Festive Fun - Christmas Sweet Treats!***

Hi Guys
Christmas also equals lots of sweet treats in our house..so thought it would be nice to share any recipes we all have for sweet treats.. I’ll start by sharing this simple recipe to make your own puff candy… yum yum yum
Puff Candy:
Ingredients:
6 tbsp caster sugar
2 tbsp golden syrup
2 tsp water
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
Method:
1.  Put sugar, syrup and water in a pan and stir over a gentle heat until dissolved.
2. Bring to the boil for 3-4 mins
3. Remove from heat and add the bicarbonate of soda – mix well as it will froth up!  Whisk/stir mixture quickly and pour into a baking tin lined with baking/parchment paper.
4. Leave to set and break into pieces
5. If you have a really sweet tooth you can cover with melted chocolate too…
What’s your best recipes for sweet treats or other Christmas goodies?

Sounds tasty Kerry, I may have to try this
My own is a simple yet laced with tasty goodness
One procures a loverly bottle of Jack Daniels (Old Samuel Whiskey is also acceptable) some coke and a chilled glass.
Pour whiskey and coke in glass together
Continue until intelligence increases to level where EVERYthing you utter is profound and hilarious

2 great songs!  I love the Wizzard one and agree that I would much have preferred the Fairytale of New York - guaranteed to make you feel Christmassy!
Not so sure about the Rage song though...

    An update:
So, it took more than one hour to export then import, but here is what I did:
Importing to the 301, with the Suite, the NBU exported from the 2700.
It kind of works. All the messages are here on the 301, and — contrary to what happened with Bluetooth syncing — they didn't loose their time. However, they are still somewhat in disorder: all the MMSs are before the SMSs, all the imported messages are before the message that were already there and above all else, in Conversations view all the sent messages are before the received messages, making the conversations not looking like conversations at all. Plus, the messages in the Outbox have all lost their addressee info (sent to: unavalaible), while the contacted persons are still displayed in Conversations.
A weird import, then. But the best so far. Not sure how I can do differently.

As far as USB 2.0 goes, yes, they can be problematic, but they can also work. The best bet for a PCI USB 2.0 card is one based on the NEC PD 72101 chip. This should not cause any problems with sleep (the main issue) if attached devices are self powered (other than hard drives, still problematic). Devices powered through the USB- iPod, keyboards, etc., while connected through the PCI card will cause sleep problems. Remove them prior to sleep, no problems. I bought my card at a PC shop (Win/Mac version $16, Mac costs more) and I have had good success in various configurations. USB 2.0 has great use in this day and age, and older G4 users can enjoy using a little finesse!

Merry is the glad word, marry is when you match and wed people (or ideas).
Craig has suggested on his "off line" station gathering pictures of winter and celebrations.
In fact he's running a [video contest |http://www.kyte.tv/ch/72385-friday-morning-report/292138-florida-winter]so folks can share their winters.
One of our community members shared a knowledge nugget with me in Twitter: "that my own holiday, Channukah, has some traditions like Diwali (burning an oil lamp)" for example.
This year was the first time in my life that we did that (rather than just light candles which we did as well).
I like this [picture|http://www.flickr.com/photos/marilynpratt/3131272327/] that has our neighbors Christmas lights blended with our own Channukah oil lamp.
It reminds me of the best things community can be: sharing, lightness, illumination.
Marrying (blending) to make merry (happy) is what our diverse community is all about.
Happy Holidays and a good season.
Thanks to everyone who generously wish these things regardless of where in the world they are and what they celebrate.
    We salute you.

  • Is Adobe really turning its back on me?

In 2005, I purchased the entire Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium. I really only needed and wanted Photoshop CS2, but for the extra money, I bit the bullet and got the rest thinking that I may end up using it. It worked great and still does, with the exceptions of the lack of support on Vista 64-bit and small issues with compatibility (interface, for example).
Photoshop CS4 came out. Awesome. I downloaded the trial version, saw how smooth it ran on my system, and enjoyed the new interface. Great. I am now a college student, and money isn't exactly abundant. I am very careful with my money. Photoshop is the tool I use to make money in web design and photography.
For Christmas, I treated myself and dropped the $200 on the Photoshop CS4 upgrade. Got it in the mail, and noticed the upgrade url on the side of the box. Just to be safe before I opened it, I went to the page and checked it out. It wasn't that clear, so I thought I would contact the support team at adobe.
They politely told me that I can't use my CS2 Premium serial number with my Photoshop CS4 upgrade because I can't upgrade from a set to a standalone, EVEN THOUGH I OWN A LEGAL COPY OF PHOTOSHOP CS2.
What are you trying to pull Adobe? This isn't the Adobe I remember. I invested a lot of my hard earned money into your software and this is how you treat your customers?
At what point did you guys decide that your biggest spenders (the ones that invest in all of your products rather than just one) are the ones you should turn your backs on? Are you really telling me that you don't want my $200?
I own a legal copy of Photoshop CS2, regardless of whether or not it was in the suite or standalone, and I should be able to use my serial number to upgrade to your latest software version. I don't need, or want, the other software. Just Photoshop, and there's no way you are getting more than half of what I paid for the entire suite two years ago just for one of your products.
    What gives?

I'll apologize in advance if this redundant information to some, but in the spirit of sharing information from my experience w/ adobe support / sales....
    1) there are no plans to provide the camera raw plug in for Canon 5D Mark II for PS CS3. It is supported by PS CS4, but you will need to go online and get the updated plug-in.
    2) further if you have purchased photoshop CS3 as part of a suite, you must upgrade the suite, not the individual software. Your previous serial number will not be accepted.
    3) I discovered this previous issue even though I had been advised by multiple Adobe support personnel, that all I had to do was purchase PS CS4 either standard or extended version and I would be fine (they even quoted price for the individual license, even though I clearly identified as having a suite). No where during the initial verbal discussions around the raw plug in issue was there EVER mention of having to upgrade the entire suite, so beware.
    4) If you made the same mistake that I did and purchased that individual license you have 30 days from purchase to tell them that you want to return it if you want your money back. If you are outside of that 30 day window, you'll need to speak with a supervisor, and get a return waiver from them so as to get your return credited if that is the path you choose. Good luck.

  • Third  party widget's not working

Third party widgets not working (Festive lights & Christmas countdown)could it be that they can't connect to the internet

Suggest checking the widgets' developer's web pages for information on compatibility.  My quick glance at the Festive Lights homepage suggests it hasn't been updated since the version produced for compatibility with Tiger.  I don't know how they work, but they may need updating for compatibility with Lion.

  • Leopard Disk Utility and Input/Output error messages.

This post is describing a problem I had and how I managed to fix it. When I was researching the Input/Output error message I was getting a couple of people had mentioned this fix on the apple discussion boards, so I thought I would add my fix to support them. (Isn't google fab!) I've no idea if this is the right place for this so please bear with me.
Okay a bit of background:- over christmas we treated ourselves to leopard and as my laptop is now three years old I decided to do a complete reformat and installation. I used my 60GB iPod as an external harddrive and backed everything up. Installed Leopard no probs and was a very happy bunny.
The problem:- I then wanted to remove everything off my iPod. So I thought "I know I'll use Disk Utility".... I tried it with the 'default' setting and got an Input/Output error message straight away (irrespective of whether I did it as an extended journal or not.) When I tried it with the Zero Out option (can't remember exactly what it's called) it came up with the Input/Output error message right at the very end. Argh! iTunes and Finder no longer recognised it, but Disk Utility did.
My research:- After using google I saw some guys on here talking about formatting proper external harddrives using leopards disk utility and they were getting the same messages as me. It turns out it is a fault with Leopards Disk Utility. So I did what the guys recommended.
The solution:- (Thank god I had tiger!) I put in my tiger installation disk, clicked 'install tiger' and restarted the laptop. I clicked my my language, but then rather than going through the actual installation process I went to the top menu bars and chose Disk Utility (using tiger's disk one rather than my laptop's leopard one.) And erased the iPod there. Now when I quit the installation and opened my laptop up properly it worked, both iTunes and finder could see it!!! (I just had to restore my ipod in itunes - and now I'm happily transferring all my music back!)
I hope this helps someone in the same position as me!

I took it to work to use my Windows PC to try and format the drive, but got the same problem. I figured either the drive (it's a 2.5" that used to be inside my AlBook) or the external housing it lives is was faulty. Only way I could test without spending more money is by putting the 2.5" drive inside my powerbook, and booting the (Ti) powerbook from a bootable firewire ipod. I successfully booted from the ipod, and had the same problem with the now internal drive: only visible in disk utility, any attempt to erase fails. Also, I plugged the small 10 GB drive that WAS in the TiBook (but which I removed to put the other, problematic drive in) into the external housing, and it connected to other machines just fine.
Turns out the problem is the hard drive itself.
So now my question becomes: If disk utility can see the hard disk when it is connected (I have it back in the external enclosure now), but gives "input/output error" messages when I try to erase/format it, is there any way I can salvage this drive? It's an 80 GB drive, and I was looking forward to making it my internal TiBook drive (replacing the old 10 GB drive that's in there now).

  • MS Outlook 365 settings for connection to a UK ISP

    Hello from England
Just after Christmas I treated myself to a refurbished iMac, replacing my Windows PC. Model is MB324BA running Yosemite 10.10, 2.66GHz processor, 4Gb RAM. I have also downloaded Microsoft Office 365 for Mac. As part of this suite I get Outlook 365, but I can't set up an email account on this software.
I have tried talking to my ISP (Talktalk) but they do not offer support to "3rd party software providers." On their website they do offer suggestions on Port Settings etc for if I was using Outlook 2011 for Mac. Tried these but no success!
I have also tried talking to Microsoft Support, but they just keep bouncing my call around the world saying that they have a specific department that will be able to help, yet I never seem to get any answers!
Is there anyone in the community who can help please.
    Thanks,
    Lurch

Sorry, but only your email provider will be able to tell you what the correct settings are.  Maybe post your question on the Microsoft Mac forums as it's their software you're a having trouble with:

  • What is the "Cross Platform Java" option in JMF Download?

If you go to the JMF download site:
    http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/download.html
and click "DOWNLOAD", there are 4 options:
    (1) Windows
    (2) Linux
    (3) Solaris
    (4) Platform - "Cross-platform Java"
What is that 4th option for?

The new all Java MP3 encoder is a sweet treat though.
I was calling a small .exe that links to the iTunes encoder from my Java programs. Hey, at least I can still use it for free AAC encoding!
I tried to find the "official" link to it but couldnt.
but you can get it here:
    http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=35242
its called "iTunesEncode46" and it uses the iTunes encoders to encode wav files.

  • Is the iPod Touch really worth it ?

I currently have the 30 Gb iPod and I am happy with it - no complaints.
I was thinking for Christmas to treat myself to the 8 or 16 Gig iPod Touch.
I wanted opinions / views of whether people thought that purchasing the NEW iPod Touch was worth it? Perhaps those of you who have it find alot of bugs or issues with it.
Comments / opinions / suggestions are much appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Ty

I would say if you can afford it and are willing to spend the money then without a doubt yes!
I recently went back to my 30GB iPod Video after a couple of weeks on my iTouch and I couldn't believe at just how slow and cumbersome the old one was. Don't be too put off by the 16GB size of the Touch, sure we would all like more, but for me 16GB is plenty at the moment. I have 15 albums with over 350 songs and that only takes up 1.8GB.
Because the memory is Flash, there is no waiting for the HDD to boot up (because there isnt one) which results in instant playing.
The iTouch isnt without its faults, but its miles better than the classic.

  • Clean an ipad smart cover

    Hi
This is petty and my own fault but it's making me crazy. This Christmas I treated myself to a new ipad air2 with a red smart cover. That makes this not even 3 months old. I had the slightest thumbprint on my cover and with a black microfiber magic cloth and just a dampening of alcohol I tried to remove it and another mark on the cover. What happened was the color from the micro cloth seems to have to have stained my smart cover. I have tried every trick I found on the internet and nothing is removing the stains. It's just making me crazy that a tiny bit of rubbing of the cover could do this much damage. I've tried carpet cleaning, foam, light detergent, detergent spread on the stain and left to soak, oxi-clean paste to soak, erasers with no effective result.
The cover is plastic(polyurethene) how can you stain plastic and not be able to clean it up. If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate hearing them.
    Thanks
    RL

It's a little late now but for future reference, you should only use some water and possibly some highly diluted mild detergent (like dish soap) for cleaning. Never use alcohol...it's unpredictable with what it does to different surfaces. Some surfaces are fine while others can react in a negative way.
As far as getting out that stain, I would try to go over the entire surface of the cover with the dish soap, not just the spot. You want to try to blend, not concentrate on the spot. If that doesn't help, I'm afraid you'll have to live with it or get another Smart Cover, with a lesson being learned.

Your feedback is always appreciated and helps shape Project ROME for the future, so let us know about your creation experiences (e.g., ease of use, issues, wants of ROME, etc.). Have fun!

    sweet !
Looks I can simply reply from Gmail right to the forum !
Okay - so, back to what you asked - do i have anything to share ? Well, I do now, but have no idea how to share it.
I am still unsure how I could create a link to a template, so people can click on it and open what I have worked on, but clearly there must be a way to provide a 'view only' and a 'post you annotaions' and of course the 'collaborate' permissions level where several people can edit...
    but - I don't know how to.
I have shared it - it is called Compose Business Card - and this is what I did...
but - when i do that, it never provides me a way to capture a link to this ...
I am not sure if this approach will work - but i can manage to save to my www.acrobat.com account, and then Share / Publish the "BusinessCard2.anh file - can people then access and then edit this somehow ? Is this the method (seems odd not to then offer different permissions levels) ...
    Anyway, that link is here;

    okay - so, here is the PDF file I exported from Project ROME;
