Few tabs always opening up whenever I restart Firefox

Before I updated to Firefox 13.0.1, I used version 3.6. I remember that I closed with few tabs open(4 websites). Later I installed latest version 13.0.1.
The problem now is whenever I open firefox after my system startup, the firefox window is opening up those 4 websites.
Even when I close the firefox, it is not asking for "save and exit" unlike earlier old version.
Please help me how to get rid of this ?

Thanks for posting back with a solution.
I hope you found that after reading some of the linked articles mentioned in the posts above.
Your actions will have set a home page, (google, or the default home page, which itself has a Google searchbar) and you will have set Firefox to open with the homepage instead of the last set of tabs and windows.

  • How can you get your homage address to open when you open new tabs? My homepage is Google, but my new tabs always open with Yahoo.

On my old computer, all my tabs always opened to what my homepage was set to: iGoogle. Now with my new computer, my homepage is set, but all new tabs open with Yahoo! I've tried looking at tab setting but don't see a place to set it. Help!

The behavior that you have is not the default Firefox behavior, which always opens a blank tab. You will have an add-on that is causing this. Check for any Yahoo related add-ons to see if they have this option. The freeze net assistant add-on is another one that opens Yahoo in a new tab.
There are add-ons that allow you to specify what should appear on a new tab, but these may conflict with the add-on that is opening Yahoo.
    * NewTabURL - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl
    * New Tab Homepage - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage
Another way of opening the home page in a new tab is to middle click on the home button in the navigation toolbar.

  • When I try to change the keyword.url settings in about:config to do a "I'm Felling Lucky" Google search, it just resets to chrome://browser-region/locale/region.properties whenever I restart Firefox.

I just installed Firefox 4 today. When I try to change the keyword.url settings in about:config to do a "I'm Felling Lucky" Google search, it just resets to chrome://browser-region/locale/region.properties whenever I restart Firefox.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Do you have an extension like IE View or IE Tab that opens pages in Firefox sing IE as the rendering engine?

  • New tab always opens babylon search site - how to change that

    http://search.babylon.com/?babsrc=NT_bb
this link always appears when i open a new tab.
    1. how do i stop this?
    2. how do i choose my own default address for new tabs?

I had this problem too. Babylon is a Firefox add-on you have to remove. Go to tools and select add-ons. Scroll through add-ons until you find the Babylon add-on and select it which should highlight an uninstall button. Uninstall the add-on. You will have to restart your computer for it to take effect. New tabs should open to an untitled tab. Just hit your home button for the new tab.

  • A new tab always opens Yahoo versus wait for an address

I downloaded an MP4 player and it did something to Mozilla such that every time I open a new tab it opens yahoo versus wait for a site address to find. How do I get rid of this nuisance?

    Hello Jack C. Anderson,
this problem could probably be caused by a Firefox extension.
To make sure that no extension is causing the problems,
start Firefox in Safe Mode by following the instructions in the [[Safe Mode]] article.

  • Every time I open I get a proxy error. I change it but it reverts back whenever I restart Firefox.

I just downloaded Firefox 4. EVERY SINGLE TIME I open it, I get the proxy error message. So I go to Tools --> Options and change the connection settings. This makes it work - until I have to close it and open it again. This has never happened with any other version of Firefox and does not happen with IE or Chrome. It's very frustrating to say the least.

    Could do the following please.
#In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.
#In the filter at the top, copy/paste the following: '''network.http.proxy.keep-alive'''
#Double click it to set it to '''False'''.
After you configure "No Proxy" in the Advanced | Network settings, close and then restart Firefox, it should prevent what's happening at the moment because normally, FF will attempt to reuse open proxy connections.
If it doesn't work, you can reset it again by double clickiing the entry to change it to "True".
One other thing you could try (assuming the above method fails), is to create a new Profile. See [[Profiles]] and [[Managing Profiles]]. The latter explains how to move data from the old profile to the new one.

  • The add-on bar keeps reappearing whenever I restart Firefox

    Hi,
I'm having trouble with the add-on bar. After using Chrome for so long, having something on the bottom of the screen taking up space is unsettling for me. I always turn off the add-on bar because I put all my add-on icons next to the location bar like in Chrome, but whenever I close and restart Firefox the add-on bar will always reappear. Is there any way I can keep it from reappearing? I'm using Firefox 5. It's a minor annoyance because 2 clicks will get rid of it, but I'd rather not have to do that anyway.
    Thanks.

Thanks I was able to find the culprit.

  • Why am I unable to select within the URL bar of a new tab after opening a .pdf file in Firefox 4?

    To repeat the problem:
1.) Open a .pdf file in Firefox 4
2.) Open a new tab by using the (+) tab button
3.) Try to select within the URL bar (unsuccessful)
I cannot seem to direct my browser to a new website in a new tab after viewing a .pdf file within the browser.

Restore your default toolbar by going to Customize - Restore Default Set. I just found it out myself.

  • How do I stop one extra tab from opening every time I start Firefox?

Every time I open Firefox, my Yahoo homepage opens, but an additional page also opens which has a variety of website thumbnails and nothing else on that page.
In my Options, I have ONLY www.yahoo.com selected as my homepage, so only ONE page should be opening every time I start Firefox.
However, no matter what I do, this second page continues to open every time. It's very irritating, as half the time I've already begun to enter data into my homepage, then the second page pops up and switches to that and I'm typing on that page.
    Please advise.

    @jscher2000
Thank you!! That fixed the problem. The only add-ons I have are for my anti-virus software WebRoot, but somehow I must have installed Speed Dial without realizing it.
That fixed the problem. Greatly appreciated!!

  • I updated firefox hoping to stop a script problem with tabs, but it is still happening. When I go to close a tab at times I get a script error message. After choosing stop script, individual tabs won't close until I restart firefox.

This is what the box says when it happens...
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
    Script: chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:1628

  • Whenever I restart firefox, my proxy settings are changed and my homepage too.

Basically, My friend has told me that a computer worm has been eating away at my computer, but I'm asking you if you know how I can make it so that whenever i launch Firefox again it won't reset the proxy settings to where it says: 'Firefox cannot connect to the internet, we suggest you re-configure your proxy settings.'
(That is not the exact way the message was displayed, I just it's words into mine.)
Also, whenever i fix it, I discover that my homepage was reset to this: http://www.v9.com/?type=hppp&ts=1402272131&from=amt&uid=FUJITSUXMHT2060AH_NP0DT492ATSDT492ATSDX&i=psd&t=343d1bf21

  • I want to permanently unpin and remove a tab, but the pinned tab keeps opening whenever I restart Firefox.

I accidentally pinned a tab. Now every time I open Firefox it is there, even if I unpin and close, or just close the tab and restart the browser.

This somehow fixed itself after a couple of days of unpinning. I'm not sure what I did but if it comes back I will try your method. I just had a look in the about:config page and couldn't find either browser.newtabpage.pinned, nor browser.newtabpage.blocked, but that may be because I no longer have anything pinned.
    Thank you.
