Fewer options with Epson printer on new iMac

I'm the proud owner of an iMac 27" retina display (OS Yosemite) replacing a very old Dell Windows pc.
Everything's working beautifully but I no longer have all the print options for my Epson Stylus SX115 (choice of paper, print on both sides of page, etc. ) despite having downloaded the latest Epson drivers for Mac OS Intel. Otherwise the printer and scan functions work - there are just fewer options.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

There doesn't seem to be anything newer on the Epson website. So I'll just have to make do.
Call and/or email tech support your problem.  They even have a toll free # (1-800-463-7766).
My Epson XP 400 works just fine under Yosemite.  Have not lost any options.  There is a good chance that Epson is working on the "printing on both sides of page" option in Yosemite.

A few months ago, I purchased a new iMac. I recently created a movie using iMovie. Then I found out that iDVD is not included. So I have the problem that I want to burn a movie that I can play on my DVD player and watch on a television. I rang Applecare and was told that I need a program called BURN.
Is this correct? I can export the movie from iMovie in a m4v format, but I think I need to convert this to iso format before I can burn the disc.
I know there are programs like TOAST that will do this, but it is expensive.
I would be very grateful for any assistance.

Burn will not do what you want, and there is no real substutute for iDVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac?
Apple insists that the entire world has access to fast broadband (and are prepared to pay for the considerable bandwidth usage) and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud, YouTube, Facebook, whatever) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. Stating that they would return their brand new Mac unless they received a copy of iDVD worked for some, but that is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple.
Also, you can complain bitterly via Apple’s Feedback link, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between burning DVDs and distributing home movies by other means. You may feel that Apple should not dictate how you destribute family videos or photos to distant relatives and friends, and should not assume that every user is prepared to pay for the excessive bandwidth usage charged by ISPs for huge downloads from the App Store:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that came with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or that comes with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD 7, i.e. iLife version 9 onwards. You should also do this if you plan to buy a new Mac anytime soon, as stocks of iLife that include iDVD will not be available for ever.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast, which is the best software for burning anything but again does not offer the flexibility of iDVD.
And if you think Microsoft are any better, their new Windows 8 operating system will not play DVDs, or burn them, unless customers buy an extra upgrade, the company has announced:  http://www.gizmag.com/windows-8-no-dvd-playback/22443/
In other words, computer manufacturers have declared optical media as dead, long before consumers are ready to stop using them, which is fine as long as they offered us a choice, but they won’t even do that. Flexibility and intuitive use of a computer seems to be a thing of the past.

  • Share printer to new iMac

Hello. I just ordered my first Apple computer today. I am a long time PC owner, but have used Macs at work for the past few years to run apps like FInal Cut/DVD Studio etc.
I have an HP Inkjet copy, scan, fax and printer hooked up to my HP computer. The printer is not networked, but it is shared, so I can print from my laptop. Obviously I can't use the scanner unless I drectly hook it up to my iMac, but I would like the option to be able to print to it. With my laptop, I just conneted to the desktop over my network, and dragged the printer icon into my laptops' printer control panel folder. Can I do something similar to share my printer to my iMac for printing? Thank you very much for any help.

    There are also many resources available right on your new iMac that answer questions such as this. In the Finder Help menu is an app called Mac Help. The following is from Mac Help;
Setting up to print to a printer shared by a Windows computer via SMB/CIFS
You can print to a printer connected to a Windows computer, if it supports SMB/CIFS and has been set up to be shared. You need to ask the printer's owner for the printer's workgroup and for any necessary user name and password.
    1. Open the document to print, and choose File > Print.
    2. Choose Add Printer from the Printer pop-up menu, and then click More Printers.
    3. Choose Windows Printing from the top pop-up menu, choose a network workgroup from the pop-up menu that appears directly below it, select a workgroup from the list, and click Choose.
    4. Any Windows printers in the network you've chosen appear in the Printer List.
    5. Select the printer, choose its model from the Printer Model pop-up menu, and then click Choose. Enter the user name and password for the printer when prompted.
    6. IMPORTANT: Be sure to choose the correct printer model for the printer you're using. For more information, see the documentation that came with the printer. If you have an HP PCL compatible printer that is not listed in the Printer Model pop-up menu, choose the printer model that most closely matches your printer. See the link below for a list of printers and the models they most closely resemble. (You may need to scroll down part way to see the table.)
If your computer cannot determine the options that are installed on your printer, a dialog appears that lets you choose those options. Make sure the settings in that dialog accurately reflect your printer's installed options so you can take full advantage of them. Then click Continue.
If you are trying to add a Windows printer that is not available, contact your network administrator for assistance.

  • Epson Perfection 2400 Scanner issue with Epson Print Driver 2.4.1 Update

After the Epson Print Driver 2.4.1 update, my scanner quit working with Image
Capture, which hangs during the overview scan. The scanner makes a pass over
the document, but Image Capture just sits for a while saying "Overview Scan..."
and then fails with a generic error message.
I tried the suggestion in [11993273|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11993273&#11993273 ], but that did not work for me.
    Any other ideas?

Thank's for the suggestion, but no help.
It is not straight-forward to uninstall the driver because Apple installer
does not offer an uninstall option. I resorted to
    sudo find /Library -iname "epson" -print -exec mv {} ~/Desktop/epson \;
in the terminal. Reboot. Ran EPSONPrinterDrivers.pkg. Ran Disk Utility's
Repair Permissions. Reboot. Added scanner back in the System Preferences.
Opened Image Capture, the overview scan started and a few minutes later
    *Scanner reported and error*
    An error occured during scanning.

  • Problems with Epson R300 and my IMac

I have an iMac 24 Intel Duo Core running OS 10. 4.11
I've had my R300 since I bought the computer and it has been working beautifully until the last 4 months or so. When trying to print a dialog box popped up saying that the computer couldn't communicate with the printer. The printer works with my laptop running OS 10.4.11 as well as using CF card directly in printer. I checked the USB cable with another device in the same USB port on my iMac and it works fine too. I tried resetting the PRAM,repairing the disc permissions, restarting numerous times and eventually resetting the printer and reloading the Epson Software. Before reloading the Epson software I went to the library>printers and removed the old Epson software. I also went to Receipts in the Library and removed the Epson receipts as suggested else where on this forum. The new Epson software reload HANGS at "6 more items to load" . If I connect the printer to my IMac I can see it in the Systems profiler box as well as the print dialog box. I'd really like to use my printer. Please help!

    Hi again!
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!
Disconnect the USB cable from any UPS so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
    Alternate method...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.

  • Replacing Snow Leopard with Leopard in a new iMac

    Hello people,
I intend to get a new iMac, but I'd like to replace the Snow Leopard OS with the Leopard of my present Mac (because it supports a number of my PPC applications). I presume I will simply have to do an "Erase and Install" of Snow Leopard and insert the Leopard CD. Am I right and will I run into any problems? Thanks in advance for your answers.

First of all, there is no "Erase and Install" option in the Snow Leopard installer, & even if there was, you would not want to use it -- what you want to do is erase the existing Snow Leopard installation & then install Leopard from a suitable Leopard installer DVD. You can do the erase step while booted from any disk that includes an OS that supports your Mac & its own copy of Disk Utility.
As others have mentioned, the problem is that your Mac may not be supported by any Leopard installer DVD disc. The last retail Leopard installer discs Apple offered only included version 10.5.6, so any Mac that requires a later version of that OS can't boot from them. Similarly, many Macs that shipped with Leopard installed after 10.5.6 was released included system-specific installer discs that work only with that model, so you could not use them either.

  • Problem with Setup Assistant and New iMac

I just purchased a new imac intel (actually 2010 model from MacMall on closeout) and I want to transfer my files over from my old imac - 2004 G5 running 10.5.8
During the initial start up of the new imac I choose the option to transfer my information from another mac (using setup assistant).
I connect using firewire and start up the old mac in firewire mode (holding down T).  After the new mac calculates the files to tranfer I cannot chose the continue button - the button is greyed out.  In addition the remaining space available shows a negative (red number).   This also occurs if I choose to transfer from a time machine back up on an external drive.   Help.

You didn't mention what version of OS X is on the new system. I would strongly recommend starting over and using Pondini's
    Lion Setup Assistant tips
    or
    Snow Leopard Setup Assistant tips
depending on what the new system has loaded on it. If you have been using Time Machine or a bootable clone backup for the old system you can restore from that backup rather than having to mess with Target Disk mode.
If you still have difficulty call AppleCare, they're there to help on this type of issue. The number is in the owners manual.

  • Printer sharing with Epson printer not working

I have an iMac using OS X 10.5.5 with 2 printers, an Apple LaserWriter Select 360 and an Epson Stylus Photo 820. I want to share these printers with Windows XP machines. The Apple LaserWriter works fine. I can print from the Windows machine without any problems.
The Windows machine sends the file to the Epson, but it never shows up in the Epson print queue. Drivers from Epson have been installed and Windows indicates every thing is OK. Windows sees the printer and does not indicate any problem.
Every thing else is the same for both printers.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Communication error with Epson printer SX510W

I am getting a communication error when I try to print on my Epson SX510W  wrieless printer.  How do I correct this? My operating system is OS X Version 10.9.4.
I've tried re-installing the software from the CD-Rom but it won't let me use the Quick Start, It lets me download the print driver and scan driver from the list of software on the disc but that hasn't made any difference.  I think it's a problem with the printer and the IP address, how do I correct this.  How do I find the correct IP address on the printer?
Sometimes if I turn the printer off and on again, it allows me to print just one page and then stops again.
    John Mitchell

Thanks John. I tried deleting the Epson printer folder from the library like you said and then checked for Software Updates. But Apple did not indicate that there were any for my OS (probably because I had installed the latest OS update this morning). So I installed the driver from the Epson site with the printer folder removed. But this did not work because when I tried to print the computer indicated that there were missing files. So, I reinstalled the Epson folder that I had just moved to trash, deleted the new Epson folder, then tried reinstalling the Epson driver with the original folder in place. THIS WORKED! Finally, I am off and printing but with little knowledge gained about the inner workings of my computer.

  • Applications that came with Epson printer on Win XP respond "Can't open... PowerPC apps no longer supported.  Were they in Snow Leopard before I upgraded?

Epson pinter came with photo apps that ran under Windows XP. Loaded onto iMac 27", they don't respond with "Not compatable with Mac" but rather with "You can't open the application ..... whichever one ..... because PowerPC applications are no longer supported".  Were they supported under Snow Leopard OS before I upgraded to Lion?  Why "NO LONGER" SUPPORTED?

Were they supported under Snow Leopard OS before I upgraded to Lion?
    Yes, using something called Rosetta.
    Why "NO LONGER" SUPPORTED?
OS X 10.7 does not support Power PC applications.  I do not speak for Apple, but it appears they determined that since most applications are written Universal Binary, there was no reason to incur the expense of maintenance in the new OS X.
Many manufacturers have provided updates for older equipment (some have not).  I suggest you either run software update andor check with Epson.

  • PSE 9 printing problem with Epson printer

    hello there,
I am using PSE 9  with Windows XP and Epson 3880 printer. I have re-installed all programs/drivers a couple of times. PSE9 Printer dialogue will not let me print choosing "Let Photoshop Manage Colour".  It will only let me print with "Let Printer Manage Colour".  I am using Epson papers.
When I select "Let Photoshop Manage Colour", a box appears saying "ICC profile no longer available" and it won't let me print.  Is this a PSE 9 problem or an Epson problem?
    thanks !!!

Well, I actually found the answer. I spoke to an Epson Rep!
I used to have the Epson 2200 printer, then the Epson 3800, and now I use the 3880 printer on Windows XP and Windows 7 on my laptop.
When you uninstall the other 2 printers, the color profiles are still in your program files and can become corrupted.
This is why, in PSE 9, when I checked the box Let Photoshop Elements Manage Colour, it woildn`t print and instead there was the pop-up box ``ICC profile no longer available`` because it was trying to access the old paper profiles and not the ones that came with the 3880. I use Epson papers, by the way.
The solution was to go into C-Drive, Program Files, System 32, spool, drivers, colour, and this opens to the ICC profiles used by the printer. Then I deleted the old paper profiles associated with my former printers.
    And it worked !!

  • Digital Video Recorder with Firewire 400 and new iMac

I just got a new iMac which has only 1 firewire800 and no firewire 400 ports. My digital video camcorder has a firewire 400 cable to transfer taped recordings to the computer (I want to import using iMovie 09). So, do I simply need to buy a new firewire 800 cable that will plug into my digital camcorder? The reason I'm hesitant is that I've tried using a USB connection, and iMovie 09 didn't open and doesn't recognize that the digital camcorder is connected when I use USB. Does iMovie 09 just no longer recognize my several year old Samsung digital camcorder, or does it just not recognize it with a USB connection, and it will be fine if I get a firewire 800 connection that fits the new iMac? Is there another type of converter--e.g., a cable that allows a firewire 400 to plug in on one end and has the firewire 800 connection on the other end?
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and got a new cable and now I can plug for digital video camcorder into my new Mac. Unfortunately, as I feared, the Mac still doesn't recognize the camcorder. I checked the system profiler with the camcorder plugged in, and under Firewire Bus it reads Unknown Device:
    FireWire Bus:
Maximum Speed: Up to 800 Mb/sec
    Unknown Device:
    Manufacturer: 0xF0
    Model: Unknown
    GUID: 0xF000FFFFFFFF

    Sub-units:
    Unknown Unit:
    Unit Software Version: 0x10001
    Unit Spec ID: 0xA02D
Am I just out of luck--the new mac just doesn't recognize my slightly out of date digital video recorder? Or should I be able to get a driver to make it work?
