  • Tom tom software for N95 8GB

does anyone know if the tomtom sat nav software for the n95 is any good because it is the most downloaded application for the phone but it is a real pain to install so i havent bothered. anyone out there ever done it ? or can you suggest some other sat nav programs.

The current version isn't great because it hasn't been updated in well over a year.  They are supposed to be working on a new version but haven't heard anything about it for ages.
You should try Garmin XT it can also be a bit of a pain to install but garmin support will help you out.  The easiest to use is nokia maps, you do have to pay for a navigation license but unlike the others map updates and maps for other countries are free for life.

  • Latest software for N95

I see people talking about v20 on this forum but nokia on their download software section of this site are saying that the latest version is 15.0.015. So how do you get a later version

    I assume you've got an N95 8GB and not a standard N95?
V20 is available at some nokia care points now. It will soon be available by using the nokia software updater, probably within a week.

  • Software for mac

when are nokia going to give us mac users some decent software rather than their **bleep**py syncing software??
i have an n95 but have no way to install anything to it like the maps unless i find someone with a windows pc.
i think in this day and age nokia could get us pc suite, whats the problem with getting it on the mac? is it expensive etc?

This is not true at all. It might be true for Bluetooth and other such things (which you can do on windows too if you try hard enough without PC suite).
ok... "not true at all"??.... "but may be true for bluetooth and other things"??...
this was a statement regarding bluetooth specifically. the steps outlined for communicating via bluetooth are not a work around, pc suite IS a work around for missing features in windows [for bluetooth connectivity].
are you just bashing nokia, or do you have a real point?
    (quote)
Nokia does not have any port for its carbide suite for development suite. It does not support any of its sdk on any other platform other than windows.
good point. not interested. (quote from futurama)
i'm a computer engineer. hi! i might be a bit conceded when i say this, but anyone who argues that they have to support more platforms for development, or be regarded as uncaring, is simply actiing out an egocentric desire to be important. i'm a mac user. before that i was a BeOS user. yeah, i'm also a developer - albeit a hardware developer, but nonetheless i know the pains and suffering of not being able to develop on my platform of choice AND I STILL SUPPORT THE DECISION.
they are not in the business of making multi-platform development tools. they are in the business of making phones. dead simple: get the dev tools out there, and hit as many potential devs as possible without having to become experts in PC, Mac, linux.... hey even BeOS. they've done that. you want to develop for Symbian (by the way, this is symbian, not nokia) then go and get the symbian dev tools and compile some apps.... development platform has nothing to do with development itself. would you rather they force you to develop natively on symbian? hard to do i'm sure, but possible. then they wouldn't force ANY other OS on you.
    (quote)
And point in question, it even did not make an effort to port PC Suite on any platform other than windows. Nokia simply does not support any non-windows platform.
yup. wait. what void of functionality would PC suite fill on the Mac? i see the map loader. ok. not exactly a big deal. oh oh oh and the software updater. a bigger deal, but then again an even bigger mess if it ever screws up... bringing us back to the argument "they are not trying to become experts on windows/mac/linux/heck even beos software developmet"
what are you missing on the mac? tell me, and if it's not the map loader or the software update tool then we can probably fill that gap for you by pointing out links to nokia's website.
    (quote)
Its probably because nokia's primary market i.e. Eurasia does not have a strong Mac presence.
heck the whole world "doesn't have a strong mac presence" - really. but just for giggles i'll pretend like i'm not hurt that you've excluded me from nokia's 'primary market' (i'm not in eurasia).
    (quote)
But I think its mostly because simply put Nokia doesn't care, about its customers or its developers for that matter.
i feel cared for. as a user (a MAC user) - i don't currently develop software for nokia devices. i guess you don't feel cared for, but that doesn't mean they don't care. i pitty anyone who cares for you but simply cannot provide what you're looking for - it seems you'll be very upset and emotional about it.
    (quote)
Its service centers are a joke (at least here in India) and its support is mostly sub-standard. And if Nokia has to compete with the biggies like Apple and Google who are now strongly focusing on the markets that Nokia held it really needs to pull up its socks.
their service centers EXIST. i've never seen one for my old sony ericcson phones. LG? in what part of the world are there service centers for mobile phones besides the mobile providers themselves like AT&T, T-Mobile, etc?
sub-standard support? ahh... what standard are you going by? from where i sit, if they don't bludgeon me and take my shoes they are doing well. no, seriously, i've NEVER had a good support experience with ANY company. but if service is that bad where you are, so bad that it sticks out, then don't use them. i can't use ANY support here in USA, they are all that bad: apple, palm (especially palm), microsoft (HAHAHAHAHA...oh they suck), let me count the ways they all fail to do anything useful ever.
is faiulre ok simply because it's the norm? no. but calling nokia sub standard in this market? sheesh, you've got an agenda.
    (quote)
Otherwise, though as much I like Nokia, I would really like to see it sink to a silent death.
sounds to me like you have no kind regards for nokia at all and are eager to sit up front to watch a slow agonizing death. sorry to disappoint, but i think i should tell you that nokia isn't likely to die anytime soon. i could be wrong, but i think the numbers speak pretty clearly (look at annual sales of phones from each major company).

good luck Prayag, in your future dealings with nokia or whichever company you blow through next. i hope you find one you can deal with, perhaps it will be your own?

    N95-1 ---> N97-NAM ---> N900 ---> E7-00 + N900 (I use them both)
(N95 was pretty good, N97 had potential but utterly failed to deliver, N900 is absurdly good. Those of you wondering, "should I try N900/Maemo/MeeGo"? The answer is a resounding YES)

  • No updates for N95 and more

Well it seems to be that there's not going to be more firmware updates for N95. That's a big shame for Nokia because at least I was expecting ASR. I got an iPod Touch and I've seen that even the old iPhone 2G is receiving updates to the next firmware 2. But if you want Nokia's ASR and newest services, you have to buy a new Nokia like the new N96 or N85 they're launching. I've paid so much for my N95 not so long ago and now it's a forgotten cellphone.
That's why I'm planning to sell my N95 and buy the new iPhone 3G, I know it will not be unlocked, I'll have to unlock it by my self, and I know that it's 2MP camera will not be the same than the N95 camera; but I'm happy because I know that I will always have updates for this device, will have ASR and other things that Nokia could update on their devices instead of making them obsolete.
Come on Nokia, when are you going to learn?

hi mate simple threats of going to the iphone will not help them bring out software for your phone , i doubt any software peeps from noia even read this forum its a users forum if you have a problem you should email nokia directly through their contact us pages
if i was a nokia technician though id have to stop myself from laughing at you for going over to the iphone i mean that would be a major step backwards and youll only be lining o2 and apples allready bulging pockets some more and have a rubbish phone with outdated features for the next 18 months , i mean cmon how long has 3g been out for and apple act as though its new lol anyways i dont want to start the n95 vs apple debate again any power user will know that the n95 is still top of the pile
there will be 1 more new firmware for the n95-1 , and iam sure it will contain asr and geotagging for the 5mp camera just like the n82s last update did and n95 8gbs added it too, yes thats right the n95 8gb did not come with asr as standard from release it was added in v20 if iam correct v15 for the 8gb dosent have it so it was pretty dam good for them to add it
anyways v21 on the n95 is very good just add rotate me or landscape pro and your phone will have asr, the nokia technicians dont really have to sort out any issues at all with v21 , it has transformed my phone into a top hanset with decent battery life for such a feature packed handset , new firmwares roll out mainly to iron out bugs if a handset dosent have bugs why would they update it??
we are lucky that nokia can even be bothered to add new features really , they dont have to do they , the handset isnt advertised with asr is it , nope , so we are lucky they listen and add features
i seriously cant believe youd leave the n95 for the iphone but hey everyone to thier own
i personally think nokia do well with their updates and nokia users are lucky that their phones get updated via the net and that nokia can be bothered to add new features etc into the firmware and not just iron out little bugs
anyways mate id be more patient before you go over to the darkside i believe the new firmware for the n95-1 will be avalible just before the n96 release as the developers are going to be busy with their new hanset and ironing out the new bugs on that n96 , once the n95-1 has asr and geotagging bult into firmware it will be more then the device we was promised and i think nokia will leave it like that for a bit and work on the n96

  • Recommendations for Bluetooth GPS for N95

Has anyone got any recommendations for a Bluetooth GPS receiver (to improve the dire performance of the inbuilt one) available in UK?

I bought the Nokia N95 8GB for its 'all in one device 'convenience.
I bought an external Bluetooth GPS, not because the inernal was no good, or not accurate enough but because I did not want to destroy it with vibration and rain, strapped to the handlebars of my Yamaha XT225
I want to create tracks (kml?)that map out the roads, lanes and footpaths of Cebu, Philippines using my Motorbike, in places the car could not go.
I decided on the Wintec G-Rays2 (WBT-201). This is more than just a Bluetooth GPS, as it has a 'logger' function also (collecting up to 131,072 waypoints). It is also much quicker at acquisition than the internal GPS (34 seconds or if data is still in memory 4-33 sec).
Even in a car, the WBT-201 G-Rays2 unit, can be positioned on the dash, whilst from anywhere in the car, the N95 receives the NMEA0183 format data stream giving position, speed, altitude and time, together with estimated error and satellite status.
'Sports Tracker' works very well with this for receiving the data stream 'live'. Once 'captured' it has many 'export' formats of the captured information. Test 'Tracks' of the same 'Route' using the internal GPS and another time the WBT-201, show the external unit to be more accurate. Having said that, the internal GPS is actually pretty good at capturing the same track.
The only real 'negative' of the WBT-201, is the 'TMXTool' software (for configuring the settings, on the go, rather than connected to a PC), is for PPC, and not S60. However the 'TimeMachineX' software is OK for 'Windows' use.

  • Software for N82

    Hi
is there any software for using .swf file as wallpaper in N82?
    thanks

I just bought an N97. My old phone was an N95. The new phone, like the old phone, came with Nokia Maps. This is free to use, but it doesn't come with "Navigation". Navigation is the voice directions you expect to hear in the car. You have to buy a Navigation licence, either through the phone, through Nokia PC Suite, or from a third party site.
I took my old sim out and put it in my new phone.
When I tried the Maps function on my new phone, it went to the internet, found my old Navigation licence and transferred it to the new phone.
This left my old phone with no Navigation licence.I checked out various options to bring back the Navigation to my old phone including these:-
If you go through the phone, or PC Suite, you will have to buy a yearly licence. If you go to the TeleAtlas site, you will find McGuider software. This is another option.
This business of buying an annual licence has been bugging me for some time, so, In the end, I did what I've been thinking about for a while. I went
into Halfords and bought Garmin (UK and N, Ireland) software on a micro SD card for £49.99. One - off payment, not an annual charge.
It installs automatically, is a doddle to use compared with Nokia Maps, and gives you the option of using AGPS or not.
It's much easier to use than Nokia Maps, more intuitive, more powerful options, quick in its response, and I can finally read what it's telling me on the small N95 screen, as I drive.
I can heartily recommend it. Without the AGPS in use, it's still very quick in its response, but of course this is down to the quality of the GPS system, and where you are.
     HTH

  • Missing MFC71U.DLL for N95

Hi Just another grizzle here. Read below..
Just upgraded the N95 to latest software and tried reconnecting with PC Suite via USB and recieved the "...MFC71U.DLL is missing..." message, it asks for a reinstall to promote the fix.
I initially ran the backup using PC Suite with obviously the old software version and now am terrified about losing my data if I A/uninstall the old version and/or B/download and install latest version - is the data already in cyber-heaven?
    Here is precis of events;
Turned on Global Roaming and went overseas
Returned and had 3G service work then stop
Confirmed with SIP their end functioning
Tried other 3G enabled chips - same same
Tried other phones with my chip - same
Nokia rep advised to try reset
Backed up info with win7 op
    Updated phone software via usb
Unable to connect, swapped cable, reboot..
    ..post migraine here..

It's a reinstall of PC Suite that you should do, not the phone's software.
MFC71U.DLL is the Microsoft Foundation C runtime library. It's software for the computer.

  • Windows vista, Ipod shuffle 4th gen.  Computer cannot find device driver software for ipod.

After several hours trying the troubleshooting options provided by the apple support site, I have come to what I think is the issue here.  My girlfriend recently got an ipod shuffle and when plugging it into her computer the dialog pops up saying it is installing device driver software for the ipod.  Eventually it asks me to insert the CD that came with the ipod.  No CD came with the ipod, so I click the option that says "I do not have my cd".  Then it gives me the option of searching automatically or manually for the driver software.  The automatic way can't find it.  Doing it manually, with the help of the troubleshooting page, didn't work either.  google search can't seem to help me on this one.  Also, I tried plugging the ipod into my computer (not hers) and it worked fine, it was able to install the device driver software on its own.  Does anybody know the issue here?  My computer has windows 7, and hers has vista.  Hers is Serice Pack 1.  When I tried installing service pack 2 it wouldnt work.  I don't know if that is the issue though.  I have tried just about everything, I think the issue is finding the device driver software.  When I do a google search nothing comes up, so I have no idea what to do at this point.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Well its surprising to know that! But even  have an ipod shuffle 3rd gen n dint face any problem like that. FYI no cd comes with the ipod jus take ur ipod to an apple exoert n he will solve ur problem .

  • Software for HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi MFP is not currently available from the Software Update server.

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion, and found that I could no longer print to  my HP CM1312nfi.
This is usually a problem with HP at every upgrade, but this time, they appear to have offloaded the driver download process to Apple.
My printer is connected wirelessly through a time capsule by IP address—the physical, not the virtual, e.g: 169.254.xx.xx instead of 10.0.1.x.
When I try to download the driver by bonjour or IP, I get the following error message:
Can't install the software for the Hewlett-Packard HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi MFP because it is not currently available from the Software Update server.
Is this truly a Software Update server error, and if so, any clue when it will be resolved?
I am able to print with the generic driver as of now, but fax and scan capabilites are gone. The add fax dialog  lists no devices.
Scanning is not supported on my printer model with the Hewlett Packard Print 2.12 driver. Will support be forthcoming, or did Mountain Lion brick my scanner?
Thanks for your time and attention.

Of course, once I posted this, I tried again and downloaded the driver without issue.
My second question still stands, however:
Scanning is not supported on my printer model with the Hewlett Packard Print 2.12 driver. Will support be forthcoming, or did Mountain Lion brick my scanner?
