FF 26 doesn't open URL shortcuts, it opens the Home page instead! (in Windows)

Hello there... I used to be able to click on a .URL shortcut in Windows and Firefox (whether or not it was actually running) would open up and go right to the page I desired.
Now, it ALWAYS opens up the "home" page. This is *really* annoying.
Does anyone know what the problem might be?
Thanks for your assistance!

This is usually a problem with the set up of the default browser (registry keys missing or corrupted).<br />
You can try to 'redo' the default browser and temporarily set another browser as the default.

Sounds like you are in Full screen mode. Run your cursor to the top of the page and click on the blue arrows on the right hand side.

One thing to try, is to reset (reboot) the iPad.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.  Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.
If you can not do this reset, you may have a defective Home button.  Have an Apple Store Genius look at it, and you might get a new iPad.

  • Firefox opens the Home page instead of the link I have highlighted in my Email (Evolution) Opera works so it should not be Evolution.

When I have a HOT link in an Email (Evolution) and click on it Firefox opens my home page instead. I have to copy and paste to open a link from an Email. Opera opens the correct link. Am I forced to make opera my default.? I would like to keep it at Firefox. I have asked this question for 4 weeks and get no response from Firefox Support.

    It's EXTREMELY annoying. >.>

Third-party system modifications are a common cause of instability and poor performance. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
Reboot as usual (not in safe mode) if you haven't already done so. Launch the Terminal application, copy or drag -- do not type -- the line of text below into the window, and press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
Next, do the same thing with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
That's one line, not two. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
    Next, this command:
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
Again, one line. Finally, one more:
    ls -1A {,/}Library/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,La,Mail/B,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Se,Sta}* 2> /dev/null
Remember, this is all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Sometimes the url's don't update so when you press the "back button" it sends you to the home page instead of the last page visited

A friend of mine has this webblog and I have never had problems viewing it before I downloaded the new version of firefox. However, once I downloaded the new version, I noticed that every time I press the "back button" after viewing a picture, it sends me back to the blog home page instead of the last page I was on or that I viewed. This also happens with some of the standard websites I visit not just the blogs.

Right click the Back button and select the page you want to go back to.

  • Is there any way to to have the "Home" icon open a new tab instead of replacing the current page with the home page?

I would prefer that the "Home" icon on the Navigation Toolbar open a new tab instead of replacing the current tab with the home page. Is there any way to accomplish this?
    Thank you.

If you middle-click on the home icon it will open a new tab containing the home page.

  • How to duplicate browsing windows, instead of reopening the home page, when opening new windows?

When any new browser windows are opened in Firefox, it reopens and re-reopens and re-re-reopens the home page instead of opening ANY new copies of ANY of the browser windows from which the command "New Window" was originally made.

    Try this extension:

  • Internet explorer unable to open url shortcuts from networked locations

    Hi Everyone
I have an issue with Internet Explorer not opening up URL shortcuts from networked locations.
The setup I have is a Windows 2008R2 Terminal Server (patched and up to date), which uses setup for folder re-direction (all folders bar app data) to redirect the data to a network share on the same server (ie, the my documents folder is redirected to \\server\users\username\my
    documents).
When the user opens internet explorer and tries to open a favorite, the active tab sits there with a connecting... displayed on it, and does nothing else. Opening the URL shortcut directly from the favorites folder does the exact same thing.
However, when I login as the domain administrator account, and do the same thing, it works as it should.
There are two ways that I have found to get it working is to not redirect the favorites folder, and disabling the "Enable Protected Mode" for the Internet zone (Internet Options > Security Tab > Select Internet Zone, and uncheck the protected
    mode box).
I have tried setting the network shares to be located within the local intranet zone, and I do believe that it is setting correctly since I can open an html document in the share and it shows the intranet zone in the status bar.
Does anyone know of a way of getting the favorites working when they are stored on a network share as a re-directed folder?
    Many thanks,
    Sam.

    Hi,
Based on my test, "Enable Protected Mode" for the Internet Zone shouldn’t cause this problem. I try to move a test user’s Favorites folder to a shared folder and then try to open the Favorites shortcuts from IE, they work fine.
Could open \\server\users\username\my documents folder and directly open the shortcuts by double-click them?
If not, let’s use Process Monitor to trace the process:
    Process Monitor
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
Download and run it. Click File menu, check Capture Events, double-click the shortcuts in shared folder, wait for some time, when the error occurs, uncheck Capture Events again. Exported events to Logfile.PML and upload the file to Windows Live SkyDrive
(http://www.skydrive.live.com/). If you would like other community member to analyze the report, you can paste the link here, if not, you can send the link to

  • How do I open a new FireFox browser window to the home page and url filled?

win 7 64-bit, firefox 5 open new window no url. When I have firefox open and open a new browser window, the new window does not open on the home page and no url is present in the address field. If I click on the favicon in the address field, the url of the current page will automatically fill in. The forward and backward arrow buttons remain disabled. In addition, links opened in a new window cause a new browser window to open, but the linked to website is not displayed in the new windows. What is displayed is a new window completely blank with no url in the address bar. I tried to include troubleshooting information by clicking on the copy to clipboard, but apparently the character count was exceeded.

I disabled all plug-ins and extensions. the problem has been resolved. Now I will enable each one individually to find out which one was the offender.

  • Why is a new tab opening every time I click the home button??? If it doesn't stop, I'm gone after meny years.

    no, you give ME details.

Is there a new tab in addition to your home page, or does the current page stay the same and the home page opens in a new tab?

  • How do I set the Home Page for a newly open tab using the File Tab Menu??

When I open a new tab, is there a way to set the home page the new tab will use when it is opened, or will new tabs always be opened as blank pages?

I have new windows opening when I click on a link. Or when I click on the FF-Icon. New windows are the default setting.
When a new window opens, I get a Google home page and can instantly type in a search phrase.
With the above in mind, sometimes I want to keep search classes in the same window. In a sense I'm using the Window with no tabs, to generate a tab by using the File Tab option.
When a Tab is selected where new windows will launch a new page, and not a new tab, the process of forcing a new tab onto the window will produce a tab page that is Blank, and the new tab label description displayed in the tab area shows the words "New Tab". That tab's URL address bar is blank. Zip - nothing displayed.
When a blank page tab appears, I click on the HOME button you helped me remodel, and the "New Tab" description in the tab label area changes from "New Tab" to "Google".
My question was to ask, if there was a way I could do something to make FF4 do that Home page assignment on its own. In the early FF days I found you could sometimes go into the bowels of FF, find some form of INI or SETTINGS type file, look for a Keyword reference that would tell FF to do something different, and Viola, emotional issue resolved. In this case, I'm trying to "Gild the Lilly" by asking if you, or someone else might have a rabbit they can pull out of their hat, just like you did when you helped me move my Home button, and have that rabbit show me how to do something that default FF-Options section doesn't support.
Did I do a better job of explaining the issue this time?
    Thanks again for the response.

  • Browser opens to properly set home page. Tabs open to a different home page. what is the fix to get tabs to open to the home page I want.

I have firefox 24.0 in xp . for some time i have been using firefox with no problems. and i think i recently update to the current version. went my problem started I think was when I tried to download a video downloader. my home page was changed even tho I did a custom install. May home page was switched. after much trial and error I managed to get the home page I wanted when the browser first opens. but when I hit the tab button some home page opens that I dont recognise. and it does that for each addition tab that I open. it does this only when I open a tab. I have read several of the related questions here but there a waste of time because I am not a techie.
looked at the about:config thing but finding the right thing to even begin to look at was impossible. I dont recognise any of the thing in there and I dint understand how to search for the thing it said search for. this is the instructions I tried to follow:
    Chosen solution
You can modify the browser.newtab.url pref and change the value to http://foxnews.com
Also make sure that the new tab page is enabled, the browser.newtabpage.enabled should be true.
Type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key to open the about:config page, just like you open a website by typing the URL in the location bar.
If you see a warning message then you can confirm that you want to access the about:config page.
use the Search bar at the top of the about:config page to locate preferences more easily
preferences that have been modified and do not have the default value show as bold (user set)
preferences that are user set (bold) can be reset to the default value via the right-click context menu
preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean) or by double-clicking the line with the pref
preferences can be created via the right-click context menu: New -> String, Integer, Boolean
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/about:config.
what preference am I searching for? I tried searching for browser.newtab.url and came up blank. search for just browser came of with too many for me to make judgment on.
This was very confusing and i could not figure it out until the asker came back and said it worked and something else that I cant find now. i think the answers should be dumbed down to where non-techies can understand. my problem is solved

You can change this if you don't mind peeking under the covers into Firefox's about:config preferences editor.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste newtab and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and enter the desired value:
    (i) Page thumbnails (default)
    browser.newtab.url = about:newtab
    (ii) Blank tab
    browser.newtab.url = about:blank
    (iii) Built-in Firefox home page
    browser.newtab.url = about:home
    (iv) Any other page
browser.newtab.url = full URL to the page
Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?

  • When I open Firefox, it goes to the first page and then stops, saying "Not Responding" with the cursor spinning. What can I do to fix this? Thanks for any help

When I open Firefox, it goes to the first page I open, but then stops and says "Not Responding" with the mouse cursor spinning. I hit the close button and it says Windows is searching for a solution (which doesn't come).
