FF can't open tabs on startup

When I start firefox it apologises for not being able to open the previous tabs, perhaps due to one of the tabs that was open before.
But when I tell it to have another go it always succeeds.
So why can't it do it the first time? Is the problem my end or is there a bug?
(FF all versions, Ubuntu 12.04)

Sounds that Firefox has crashed.

  • Since installing an icon-editing add-on, I can't open tabs any more / I can only use one tab at a time.

Ever since I installed the add-on Favicon Picker 2 that lets you change the bookmark icons, I can't open tabs any more. The second tab will open, but if you try to go to a site, the FIRST tab redirects to that site. Basically, I can only use one tab at a time. Is there any way I can keep this add-on and use tabs?

Oh, wow - look at that, you're right :) I didn't want to uninstall the add-on as I like the feature, but simply by disabling it you can keep the new icons AND use tabs. Thanks dude!
(The add-on is Favicon Picker 2 0.6.2.15 by the way - some of the user reviews report the same problem.)

  • I can see open tabs from my PC on my Mac, but I can't see open tabs from my Mac on my PC. Why?

I've set up Sync on my work PC and my home MacBook.
I can see open tabs from my PC while I'm on my Mac, but I can't see open tabs from my Mac while I'm on my PC. Why?

Here is what I am seeing on my Android device - at the top, a few options like History > Top Sites> Bookmarks>Reading List. Then, the search/address bar, then to the right of that, a square with the number "1" inside it, then 3 dots that, when chosen, give you the following options:
    New Tab
    New Private Tab
    Request Desktop Site
    Tools
    Settings
Any thoughts on how I specifically sync my Desktop open tabs to my Android device so I can then see all my desktop open tabs on my phone?
    Thanks!

  • How can I open tabs on one computer from another computer

I used to be able to open a tab from my home computer while using my computer at work. Now, I don't seem to be able to do it. I have a sync account set up. How can I open a tab from one computer at a different computer?

First, be sure you're Syncing correctly:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-up-firefox-sync?esab=a&s=Sync&r=4&as=s
As far as I know, Last Session is synced, too, so you can use
    History -> Restore Previous Session
    or
    History -> Recently Closed Tabs

  • Can't open tabs from previous session (after Firefox regularly closed)?!

Regularly closed firefox 36.0.4. and shot down computer (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit).
On next start, Firefox doesn't open tabs from previous session (altought it is configured to do this) !?!?!?
    I lost about 30 tabs!!
    Very, very frustrating!!!
Think to finish using Firefox forever!!!!!

Don't exit Firefox! Or if you already did, don't start it back up again!
''If Firefox is running:'' Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listed various files and folders. For best results, change the view to "Details".
(''If Firefox not running, get to this folder by pasting the following in the Run box on the start menu and pressing Enter:'' %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles ''and then double-click into the most recently updated semi-randomly-named folder you find there.'')
In the window that launches, scroll down and double-click into the '''sessionstore-backups''' folder. Save all files here to a safe location, such as your Documents folder, so Firefox doesn't overwrite them. We may be able to use them to recover your lost tabs.
Also, if you return to the main level of the profile folder, you may find some sessionstore files. Copy those to the safe location as well.
Could you report back on what you found?
Note: If Windows hides the .js file extension from you, you can change a setting so that you can see all file extensions (this helps when renaming files). This support article has the steps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/865219 or http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions
The kinds of files you may find among your sessionstore-backup files are:
    * recovery.js: the windows and tabs in your currently live Firefox session (or, if Firefox is closed, your last session)
    * recovery.bak: a backup copy of recovery.js
    * previous.js: the windows and tabs in your last Firefox session
    * upgrade.js-''build_id'': the windows and tabs in the Firefox session that was live at the time of your last update

  • How can I open tabs from my mobile device on my desktop?

    Hi there!
Currently I'm having a desktop(Win7 x64), Mobile phone (Galaxy S2) and a tablet (Galaxy Note 10.1) Both of which run Android 4.0.4. (Also, neither is rooted)
All three are running Firefox and I'm quite happy with the overall performance. There is one small thing that puzzles me, which has to do with sync.
All three are currently running FF 18.0.2.
The problem I'm experiencing is in the sync procedure itself: I can see which tabs I have opened on my PC on both the phone and tablet, but the reverse is only possible by going to about:sync-tabs. The little arrow that should show them (the one with tab-groups) only shows local tabs that are opened. Is there any way in which I can make the tabs appear on my PC without having to go to the about:sync-tabs page?
Should you require more information I'd be happy to provide it!

I researched through many articles and was unfortunately not able to find a solution to you're problem.
''Have you tried uninstalling Firefox and then reinstalling it on your computer? ''
If not follow the steps below:
'''Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the [[Uninstall Firefox from your computer#w_uninstall-firefox|Uninstall Firefox]] article.
'''IMPORTANT:''' On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do '''not''' check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox [[Profiles|user profile data]] will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
    * '''(On 32-bit Windows)''' ''C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox''
    * '''(On 64-bit Windows)''' ''C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox''
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the '''Program Files''' folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the '''Program Files (x86)''' folder.
#Look for a '''Mozilla Firefox''' folder. If you find one, right-click it and select ''Delete'' and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!'''
'''*Note: test device is currently experiences issues, so I was unable to recreate the issue you are experiencing.*'''

  • With Tweak Now I choose Compact Mozilla Firefox Database Files, now I can't open tabs, images etc. on websites. I can't get the old setting back, not even by bringing the system back to another date or installing Firefox anew. What to do? Thanks!

This is what I think did happen because I am still able to do those things in Internet Explorer.
E.g. Opening a website I don't see all images, can't use all tabs.
I also cleared Caches in Extra. (I use Windows XP.) I tried to restore things within Tweak Now.
So how can I make more space in the Mozilla Database Files.
Please keep your answer simple, I am not that smart...

Not a good idea to use external programs like that to mess with Firefox files, those programs somehow manage to break more than they ever fix. Windows system restore does its' fair share of messing Firefox up, too. And reinstalling Firefox doesn't fix a b0rked Profile, unless you remove it when you uninstall Firefox.
    Try a new Profile. <br />
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Creating_a_new_Firefox_profile_on_Windows
Then recover specific files from the existing Profile. <br />

  • Can't open tabs in tumblr

Just started happening a couple weeks ago. I'd find pictures/gifs on tumbler, go to open them in a new tab, only to find the option on the right click is faded not bold, so I can't access it. Not being able to do this forces me to click on the picture on its own, then hit the back button to get to the main page which then has to completely reload, taking me away from where I left off.
I just want the open new tab function to work. I'm assuming this is a new feature for tumblr, for whatever reason, just looking for someone to confirm that for me, since that's how it works now in other browsers as well.
And if so, I'll be done with tumblr. Can't imagine why they'd force people to not be able to have the convenience of opening in new tabs.
    Thanks.

Does Tumblr have a custom right-click context menu?
You can change a setting so that you always get Firefox's right-click context menu. If the site has its own menu, Firefox's will appear in front of it.
''To access the site's menu after making this change, you have to carefully dismiss Firefox's menu with a single press of the Esc key. (I think I've only seen one site where ''both'' menus disappear when I press Esc, so it nearly always works.)''
    Want to try it?
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''context''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''dom.event.contextmenu.enabled''' preference to switch it from true (sites can detect and re-place the right-click menu) to false (they can't).
    Does that help on Tumblr?

  • IE11 Can't open tab or page

This is all over the internet without resolution. After the last Windows update IE11 no longer opens a link in a new tab or page. It opens a blank tab and won't respond at all if asked to open in new page. Please. Firefox works fine, but I want to use
IE11. All of the usual fixes (set IE11 as default.....) do not fix it. Save me from Firefox!

    Hi,
Any error messages displayed? You can check the event viewer for more information. If you have enable IE protected mdoe, disable it, or add a website to trusted site as a test, in a word, If you have made any special settings in IE, I suggest you reset
IE if possible to check the result.
Turn off IE then return turn on, check if it make any difference (Turn Windows Features on or off)
Install all windows updates (especially for IE11)
Boot your PC into "safe mode with networking" with a limited set of files and drivers as a test in case some conflicts exist in your system.
And take Robear's questions into consideration.

  • I can't open tabs on my MacBook Pro. I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox several times, but it will still not allow me to open other tabs after it has gone to my homepage.

I cannot open any tabs on Firefox. It opens to my homepage, but there is no line for a URL address. Therefore, there is no way to type in a new URL address. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox twice and it has not helped. I am a former PC user and just switched to Mac.

Try restore as new using computer iTunes.

  • I Can't Open Tabs In Safari On My iMac?

In Safari, if you press command (apple key) T a new tab will open up.
I use this feature a lot on my MacBook but this feature will not work on my iMac.
I have to press "command N" and that opens up a whole new page. I would like to just have all of my pages in one window instead of having 3 or 4 different ones.
Any ideas how to get the tab feature to work in Safari on my iMac?
    Thanks,
    Sam

    Hi
Goto safari's prefs/tabs and check "enable tabbed browsing"

  • I can't open tabs from the file menu or + sign. I have often used this feature. It just stopped today. Why?

Up until today, I could use my *new tab* feature. Suddenly, tonight it won't open a new tab.
    What could have happened?

I don't use the Ask Toolbar, but earlier today (or yesterday) it was *on* and de-selected it. What else do I have to do to *disable* it?
Also, when I go to safe mode in Firefox, the new tab feature works.

  • Mac - Firefox opens but it constantly frozen - can't open tabs/tools/file/help etc

when I open firefox, it will open but the page will be unresponsive. when I try to open a tab or the menu options the beachball will come up and it will freeze.
this slows down my whole computer.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Safari freezing..  Can't open tabs, disapears??? on new Maverick

Downlaoded Maverick last night before I went to bed.  Now Sarfari is messed up  Bad.

Most of the many reports of Safari problems after upgrading to Mavericks are due to the unsupported hack called "Glims." If applicable, back up all data, then remove it according to the developer's instructions. Log out, log back in, and test. I strongly recommend that you never reinstall it. If you do, you should expect the crashing to resume every time Safari is updated by Apple.

  • I am running 3.6.12 and my new tab and/or window actions are the same. How can i open new links within apps into new tabs?

I used to be able to control new tab actions such as opening on top of current tab or in a new tab. This is frustrating as i always cover up where I am or was! How can this be corrected so I can open a new tab in a new tab? I am enrolled in an on-line class and can not open tabs in a new tab as needed as it always places the new tab on top of teh current or old tab.
Funny as i use to complain about opening in new windows!
I am missing how to control new tabs and new window actions?
