FF for Mac began flickering, breaking up the page, repeatedly.

Question

The question pretty well describes it. I get the page disappearing into multiple colours and pixels, the coming back to the normal page...then flickering again. I'm using version 26 which I believe is the latest for my Mac. I'm on system 10.6.8 on an iMac. I've never run across this problem before with FF and it's not happening on Safari.
