FF launches twice on start-up

Recently FF launches twice on start-up.
The second is with a BING page.
My start-up folder only has one FF in it. How do I stop this.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and search for prefs that refer to <b>TEXT</b> and reset related user set (bold) prefs via the right-click context menu to the default value.

    When Java Web Start starts up, it tries to determine the Proxy Settings from either the users deployment.properties file, or from the browser (if the deployment.properties setting is set to the default "Use Browser Settings"
    In either case the setting can be to use an automatic proxy configuration script. If it is, Java Web Start will invoke the MS java script engine to parse the config script.
    This sounds like an error message from there.
    To fix this, you could use the Java Control Panel to set the proxy directly, or change the setting in the browser.
    In versions before 1.5.0, Java Web Start would always go to the IE system settings for proxy. In JDK 6, javaWeb Start will read the proxy settings from the "default browser". If this is Firefox, it may return different settings than are set in IE (the default system proxy settings).

  • Smart Center launches window on start-up of ToushSmart 300

    I've noticed that the Smart Center ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\TouchSmart\SmartCenter 2.0\SmartCenter.exe" chromeless) launches on every few start-ups. Whereas the Dock has options to choose whether or not it launches at start-up, I can't seem to find any for the Smart Center. I dragged all the programs (Canvas, Hulu, etc.) to the bottom, which according to the videos means they're not running, but the Smart Center continues to launch at periodic start-ups. I do know how to stop it via MSCONFIG but before I do I thought I'd ask for other options? The only reason it concerns me is because it adds to start-up time when I'm wanting to do keyboard work.
    (Have searched help files, solutions and tips & tricks w/nothing found.)

    Unless you know of a specific log entry, I would hold off posting more that most can't decipher.
    I understand that, but without knowing which specific bit of the log entry is relevant, it's hard to make that call. I'd hoped that by posting the whole thing someone could point me in a specific direction.
    Most of the time it is a matter of trial and error and removing 3rd party devices, cables, and looking at 3rd party background processes, driver extensions, apps, haxies, and such.
    The problem I have doesn't repeat itself after I've replaced the HD with my backup SD clone. Yet the SD clone was updated a week after this happened the first time, when I was sure that everything was working fine. It was then updated a couple of times after that, and 2 months must have gone by when it happened again yesterday, causing me to have to restore. So working on the principle of removing stuff in order to test whether its them, when they all seem to work fine for weeks, seems unlikely to be fruitful, as much as I'd like to know what it is.
    You may need to reapply the combo update for 10.5.4, or do an archive and install.
    I'd already performed the former. I guess an A & I can't hurt.

  • SAP Bex Analyzer (Netweaver 7.1) Opens workbooks twice when starting.

    We just upgraded from bex 3.5 to 7.1, and have set it to open the Analyzer whenever excel starts.  But now whenever we open an excel workbook it opens each workbook twice.  We have one file in the XLSTART folder that loads in macro's but just opens a blank workbook.  The file we are opening has code that sets calculation to manual and prompts the user that it has set to manual.
    Whenever we open a file, it promps the user twice about setting it to manual, but only 1 workbooks pops up (because excel only allows one workbook with the same name to be open at a time), but we also get two blank workbooks that open up because the file in the XLSTART folder is being opened twice as well.
    Has anyone else seen this problem with workbooks being opened twice, or attempting to be opened twice with bex analyzer 7.1?

    What version of SAP-GUI are you using ? SAP-GUI 7.2 (latest version) was heavily rewritten using Visual Studio and SAP has stated that certain features that existed in earlier SAP-GUI versions are no longer available (it's Microsoft's Fault). It is also quite possible that your initial launch macro in Excel is causing the problem.
    I would personally recommend that you do NOT launch Bex Analyzer when Excel opens, unless this is  your primary method to interact with Bex workbooks and such. That may resolve your issue.

  • JNLP is getting launched twice in IE8.

    Hi All,
    We are launching the jnlp http://ip:port/test/test.jnlp in the IE8 and ( windows xp ) we are facing a
    strange problem that jnlp is getting launcehd twice everytime.
    However we find the solution for this problem:
    If we turn off the smart screen filter in IE8 this problem is not happening.
    anybody knows why smart screen filter is affecting jnlp launching and some of our
    customers might not allow to turn off this filter.
    Appricate the help and thanks a lot in advance.

    Hi, I had experienced the same problem as you did.
    I couldn't figure out why JNLP was executed twice, but, smart screen filter of IE8.0 had some problems.
    When your local PC is not connected to the internet, or is having some problem with the internet
    JNLP starts twice because of smart screen filter and it takes about 1 or 2 minutes to download and launch the jnlp file.
    I think you should check your internet connection. If your NOT connected to the internet turn smart screen filter off.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 - Software Center appears twice in Start Menu

    Hi guys,
    i just finished implementing a fresh SCCM 2012 SP1 Installation for a customer. The whole OSD works like a charm (except some issues with the latest Windows updates breaking the whole OSD, will open a separate thread for this soon), but after the deployment
    the Software Center is appearing twice in the Start Menu (We're using Win7 Enterprise SP1 x86 English with 5 integrated language packs). I first thought this has something to do with the integrated language packs, but both Start Menu entries
    are always in the same language.
    The strange Thing is, that one entry for the SCCM Software Center is called "Software Center" and the other one "SoftwareCenter" (without a space). We configured 2 Client policies, one with EP-enabled and one without EP. We
    deployed the Client Settings to different collections so i don't think that this is causing the Problem?Do you guys have any idea why this is Happening?
    Has anyone ever seen this? See a screenshot below:
    Thank you.
    Cheers
    Stefan

    Thanks for your Response Thomas.
    I don't think it is related to the upgrade to SP1.I think it might be a General issue in SP1. I started with a fresh SCCM 2012 SP1 Installation and i also have 2 Software Center entries in my start menu. If i check the shortcut i can see that one shortcut
    was created when i captured my base Image, the other one was created during the Install OS Task Sequence.

  • Please help me. I am getting an error while launching an web start applic

    I am getting the following error while launching an java web start apllication.
    Exception in thread"javaWSApplicationMains"java.lan.NoClassDefFound:SimpleSerial.
    The jnlp file i have used is as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

    </resources>
    <application-desc main-class="Aeon_PManager" />
    <component-desc/>
    </jnlp>
    The java code is as follows:
    SimpleSerial.java
    import java.io.*;
    //import java.lang.*;
    //import java.lang.ClassNotFoundException;
    Interface class for SimpleSerial.
    If you don't know what an interface is, don't worry. An interface defines the functions
    that can be called by implementors of this class. Currently there are two implementors,
    SimpleSerialNative, and SimpleSerialJava. There might be more in the future.
    SimpleSerialNative requires the file "SimpleSerialNative.dll" to be in the same folder as your Java
    project file. It's that simple.
    SimpleSerialJava requires the correct installation of Sun's Javacomm communication package. It's much
    more powerful, but it can be tricky for the newcomer to configure, and use.
    If you have problems with one, why don't you try the other.
    A VERY SIMPLE IMPLEMENTATION:
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    SimpleSerial ss; // delcare the SimpleSerial object
    ss = new SimpleSerialNative(2); // The argument is the commport number. There is no Comm0.
    ss.writeByte((byte)'a'); // write a byte to the serial port
    // Give the PIC chip time to digest the byte to make sure it's ready for the next byte.
    try { Thread.sleep(1); } catch (InterruptedException e) {}
    ss.writeByte((byte)'!'); // write another byte to the serial port
    String inputString = ss.readString(); // read any string from the serial port
    System.out.println("I read the string: " + inputString);
    A few important things to note:
    1. When you write data to the serial port, it just writes the data, whether or not the PIC chip is
    ready to receive data. There's no handshaking or signaling. If you send data and the PIC chip
    isn't ready for it, it will be ignored. Some PIC chips have a hardware UART which will buffer a
    few bytes of data for later retrieval. But this isn't a cure-all. If the buffer fills up, it
    creates an error condition which prevents further data from being read. You need to include
    custom PIC code to reset the error flag.
    2 In contrast to the PIC chip, the computer has a rather large hardware buffer. If the PIC chip
    sends serial data to your computer when you're not around to read it, it gets stored.
    3. If you make a call to readByte(), and there's no data to be read, readByte() waits until there
    is data. If you want to know how much data (if any) is available, make a call to available().
    4. Conversely, if you make a call to readBytes() or readString() and there's no data to be read,
    readBytes() returns a byte array of zero length, and readString() returns and empty string.
    5. If you want to use Sun's JavaComm package instead of this code, subsitute your calls to
    new SimpleSerialNative(2);
    with
    new SImpleSerialJava(2);
    public interface SimpleSerial {
    // These are copied right out of WINBASE.H
    // Most applications should be fine with the defaults.
    public static final int NOPARITY = 0;
    public static final int ODDPARITY = 1;
    public static final int EVENPARITY = 2;
    public static final int MARKPARITY = 3;
    public static final int SPACEPARITY = 4;
    public static final int ONESTOPBIT = 0;
    public static final int ONE5STOPBITS = 1;
    public static final int TWOSTOPBITS = 2;
    Returns the number of bytes available at the time of this call.
    It's possible there are more bytes by the time readByte() or
    readBytes() is executed. But there will never be fewer.
    public int available();
    public void waitForData(int n);
    public boolean writeString(String string);
    returns TRUE if port is fully operationsal
    returns FALSE if there is a problem with the port
    public boolean isValid();
    Be sure to close your serial port when done. Note that port is
    automatically closed on exit if you don't close it yourself
    public void close();
    Reads a single byte from the input stream.
    Return value will be from -128 to 127 (inclusive)
    If no data at serial port, waits in routine for data to arrive.
    Use available() to check how much data is available.
    If error, returns 256.
    public int readByte();
    Reads all the bytes in the serial port.
    If no bytes availble, returns array with zero elements.
    Never waits for data to arrive
    public byte[] readBytes();
    Reads bytes from serial port and converts to a text string.
    DO NOT use this routine to read data. Char->Byte converstion
    does strange things when the values are negative. For non-
    text values, use readBytes() above
    public String readString();
    Writes a single byte to the serial port.
    This writes the data, whether the PIC is ready to receive or not.
    Be careful not to overwhelm the PIC chip with data.
    On pics without a hardware UART, the data will be ignored.
    On pics with a hardware UART, overflowing will loose data AND require
    the UART on the PIC to be reset. You can reset the UART in PIC code,
    or manually turn the PIC off and then on.
    NOTE: A byte has a value in the range of -128 to 127
    NOTE: If you want to write a character, you need to cast it to a byte,
    for example: simpleSerial.writeByte((char)'b');
    public boolean writeByte(byte val);
    For more advanced use. Gets the input stream associated with serial port
    public InputStream getInputStream();
    For more advanced use. Gets the output stream associated with serial port
    public OutputStream getOutputStream();
    Please help I am the beginner in web start.Please

    Notes:
    1) Please use the code tags when posting code or JNLP/HTML. It helps to retain indentation and avoids asterisks and plus sings being interpreted as formatting marks. To do that, select the code/JNLP etc. and click the CODE button seen on the Plain Text tab of the message posting form.
    2) That launch file is invalid. You might check it (and the project in general) using JaNeLA.
    3) The only place that SimpleSerial class could be, that the JRE would find, is in the root of aeon.jar. Is it actually there?

  • Failure to launch Finder on start up

    Dear All, When I turned on my Intel Imac today, Finder "failed to launch its windows" which I assume means the desltop icons as none appeared. Then a box came up, flashing on and off , asking if I want the windows restored. But it would not let me click on it. Now Finder won't launch at all, and I have no icons on the desktop. I have restarted, closed down etc to no avail. Can anyone help?

    Powerline adapters often don't work, as you discovered, through surge protected extension cables as documented here.
    As for your C01 error, this is usually means that the vbox can't talk to the BT Vision servers when starting up. Are you powering off your Vision box? Usually the problem is with the connection between your vbox and home hub (usually the powerline adapters) or your broadband has a problem or there's a problem at BT's end.
    I wonder whether your SCART cable is interfering with the powerline adapters, do you have another cable you could try?

    Looking thru Program files found version 5.0 that wont' open either. Remember, the old versions have been sitting in there for some years with 7.0 working fine. • AIR debug launcher doesn't start in CS5.5 - fixed

    Just wanted to pass this on if anyone else runs into it...
    After upgrading from CS5 to CS5.5, I ran my flash program for AIR 2.6 as normal, but the ADL (Air Debug Launcher) never opened.
    (CS5.5 automatically changed the publish setting from AIR2.5 to 2.6)
    It turns out the app-xml format had changed, and the ADL wouldn't open the air app due to an unrecognized format (I assume this was the problem).
    Specifically, I changed
        <version>1.1.0</version>
    To
        <versionNumber>1.1.0</versionNumber>
    ... and it started working!
    You may also have to change
    <application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/2.6">
    At the top so '2.6' reflects the version of AIR you are targeting. In my case I had to change 2.5 to 2.6
    Good luck

    Thank you for pointing this problem out. I've had the same problem with alignment and snap. It is a most serious problem. After days and nights trying to solve it with no success, and no sleep, my thoughts and feelings alternated between never using Illustrator again and suicide or both. Deadline for a school project is getting too close, and my time is almost out, due to no warning signs of horrible changes in CS5. When points, lines and shapes never snap in place or align, Illustrator becomes entirely useless and life has no meaning. There should have been warning signs and notifications, printed on the software package, and in the booklet and everywhere, and still this new feature sucks. Why make it default with no warning? Does Adobe want to force its users into suicide? This is more dangerous than one may think. Otherwise Illustrator is so perfect and makes life very meaningful indeed.

  • Desktop Manager v4.7 loads twice on start up

    I have just upgraded to Desktop Manager v4.7, having removed the previous version from my PC, running under MS Vista. All appears to work well apart from when I sart up my PC it loads the v4.7 Desktop Manager twice. Can anyone help reduce this to one?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Perhaps there are two shortcuts in your system startup folder.
    Click on Start->Programs-> Startup on your Vista
    If there are 2 BB Desktop Manager icons - remove one. Select it, right click on mouse button and select "Delete" from popup menu.

  • Program automatically launches when I start my computer.

    So this isn't specifically a FCE question, but every time I start up my computer, FCE launches as well. It's not a big deal but a little annoying. Does anyone know how to stop it from happening? I can't find anything under system preferences. Thanks!

    go to your user account preferences and look at tabs, one will be related to apps that start upon login. You should see iTunes handler in the list - generally speaking.
    Locate the FCE app in the list and removed it. The process should be straight forward.
