FF won't release when it close

I'm using FF 29.01 and Win 7 and am having a problem. When I close FF and want to open it later again about 75% of the time I'll get an error message that says:
"FireFox is already running, but is not responding. t920-982-6312 new Window you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system".
I then have to open Task Manager and end the process by hand. FF will then open properly. I started having this problem before updating to V29. I have also started in safe mode and it still does it.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. It's driving me crazy.
Thanks
Floyd

  • Won't sleep when I close the lid - HELP!

A while ago, my iBook G4 1GHz was knocked off of a table. The display was smashed and the whole display assembly was destroyed. I bought a new (used) display assembly and installed it. Worked fine, but when I closed the lid, the iBook woudn't sleep. I checked the placement of the magnet in the top case and I reset the PMU. Still no sleep. So I contacted the company that sold me the display and got a different one. Still won't sleep when I close the lid. I checked all of the energy settings, reset the PMU and even tried to force sleep with a magnet from another broken iBook. Still no sleep when I close the lid. It will sleep when I choose sleep from the Apple menu (OS Tiger) and when it sits for a while with the lid open, but not when I close the lid. Any thoughts?

My original problem has not been solved. The iBook still won't go to sleep when I close the lid. I have checked out any possible software causes, and have ruled them out. I have checked to make sure no keys were being pressed when I closed the lid. I took a magnet from another iBook top case and ran it down the side of the display to try to force sleep. No effect. I don't have any Firewire or USB devices attached, to that's not it. Apple, this board, PBFixit.com, and my local Apple-affiliated repair center have no idea why I am having this problem. Two display assemblies have experienced this problem. The original display had been destroyed in a drop. Could some internal damage, like maybe to the logic board, result in such a problem? It's odd that I am the only person out there who has had this problem. Weird, to be sure.

  • Ipad won't shutdown when I close case

    Hi,
I just upgraded (downgraded?) to ios 7.0.3 and now when I close my case it does nto shut off. It worked fine before the upgrade. Has anyone else had this problem and/or know a fix?
    Thanks,
    Bernard

Thanks. I suppose Settings -> General -> IPad Cover Lock / Unlock was too clear so they had to obscure it to make it harder to figure out.

  • Firefox won't shutdown when I close it, and it stays running but won't reload on screen when asked. It says Firefox is running and won't let me reload. I end up closing it with Task Manager. Suggestions?

see sentences above. Firefox stays running, but the screen clears of Firefox and I can't restart it from the icons.

    Hi,
Please see [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firefox-hangs this]. Please note that the definite way to close Firefox is '''File''' ('''Alt''' + '''F''') > '''Exit''' and would usually take a few seconds depending on the history clearing settings in '''Tools '''('''Alt '''+ '''T''') > '''Options '''> '''Privacy ''' > '''Settings ''' beside '''Clear History when Firefox closes'''. If a plugin is causing delay you can also try to '''End Process''' the '''plugincontainer''' process and check if Firefox closes on its own.

  • Won't sleep when I close display.

My computer runs even when the display is closed. A couple of times it has run out of battery while closed for 3-4 hours, and it's even spontaneously played music or movies I had open while the display was closed and latched and everything. And it should be cool to the touch when it's asleep, right? But it gets hot in it's case. I have to select sleep from the Apple menu and close the display when I hear the hard drive go off to get it to sleep with the display closed.

if it's still within 12 months hardware warranty call apple and have tech support diagnose the fault. If it turns out to be hardware related -which mine was- SEND IT BACK. IF it's hardware, there's almost zip you can do except wait longer and get closer to the end of your warranty.
    My sleep issue...
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4126127#4126127
was hardware related and I ended getting a refund. Admittedly I have had a REALLY duff machine and the sleep issue was the last in a run of hardware malfunctions but if I never pursued Apple regarding a seemingly innocuous issue I would have come to the end of my warranty and been stuck with it. Now I have my money back - enough to buy a 17" C2D with a 200GB HD for less than I bought the original 15 in CD for. If it's broken get it fixed.
    Hope this helps.
    Ben.

  • MacBook Pro won't sleep when lid is closed and battery lights won't work?

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro 15" and ever since I got it, the battery indicator lights wouldn't light up (not that big of a deal) and the computer wouldn't sleep when I closed the lid.
I've reset the NVRAM/PRAM, the SMC and verified/repaired my hard disk as needed.  But the computer still won't sleep when I close the lid (regardless if the machine is plugged into a charger or not).  Is there a known fix for this problem?  I've been searching through the forums and troubleshooting from advice that other people have suggested, but nothing seems to be working.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

This exact thing happened to me. Resetting the SMC solved all my problems. Here's a link to how to do it: Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) Hope it works!

  • Firefox on Win 7 64 won't shutdown when closed. how do I fix this?

On Win 7 64 bit Home Premium version my Firefox won't shutdown when I close it. This started since the upgrade to version 29. It is very annoying to have to go to the task manager and stop the process in there every time I exit Firefox. How to I correct this? I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but that does not solve the problem.

From what I have been reading from other posts on this forum, the issue may
be caused by the clear history settings.
Press the '''<Alt>''' or '''<F10>''' key to bring up the tool bar.
Then '''Tools > Options > Privacy'''.
The button next to '''History''', select '''Use Custom Settings'''.
At the bottom of the page, turn on '''Clear History When Firefox Closes.'''
At the far right, press the '''Settings''' button. Turn on ONLY '''Cache''' and
'''Form And Search History''' leaving the others off.
This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up.

  • My macbook pro won't go to sleep when I close the lid

I've been having this problem for a couple of years now, and it's getting pretty annoying.
I got this MacBook Pro in April of 2011. Otherwise, it works great. It goes to sleep when I go up to the apple menu and select "sleep." BUT, when I close the lid, it stays on. Heaven forbid I don't have it plugged in, because then the battery will be shot! It also won't go to sleep automatically when I leave it for a long time. Yet another potential battery drain.
How do I fix it so that it goes to sleep automatically when I close the lid and when I leave it alone for a while?
In Energy Saver, I have checked all the boxes necessary: "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" "Wake for network access" and "Automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep."
Am I missing something here, or does my computer just have a defect?

    I had the same issue.
I used an external monitor but all of a sudden when I closed the lid my Macbook Pro did not go to sleep!
I solved the problem with a SMC reset.
    Try to do it...

  • MacBook Pro Won't go to sleep when I close it

My computer won't go to sleep when I close the lid. I tried restarting which fixed it at first but then a few hours later it started doing it again. This has been happening for about a week now. It only goes to sleep when I manually select it from the Apple menu. Any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thanks,

  • Won't go to sleep when I close lid

I recently bought a Powerbook G4 Ti at a flea market with a broken screen that came with the replacement screen. I spent about 4 hours taking the powerbook lid apart and swapping out the screen (PAINFUL!) and after getting it all glued back together, there seems to be some problems with the lid-closed sensor. It doesn't seem to know when the lid is closed or opened because closing it doesn't put it to sleep and if I open it after sleeping and closing, it doesn't wake up. Does anyone know where the lid-closed sensor is on this model?

Hi, Beni_Rose. Sleep is activated by a tiny magnet attached to the back of the LCD panel. When the lid is closed, the magnet normally activates a magnetic switch in or under the trackpad or wrist rest, depending on the PB model. The following instructions pertain to most of the Tibooks: those with processors faster than 500MHz. If your Powerbook is the 400 or 500MHz model, post back for a different magnet location.
Using a small toy magnet or refrigerator magnet, hold it about 1.5 inches above the trackpad surface, over a point that is halfway between the center and the left edge of the trackpad and about an inch from the top edge of the trackpad. Slowly lower the magnet toward the trackpad until the Powerbook goes to sleep. If it does so, you'll know that the switch is functional, and in that case, the likelihood is that you didn't replace the magnet correctly (or at all) when you replaced your screen. Or possibly you used a screen from the 400 or 500MHz models, which have the magnet and switch in a different place. After what you've been through, I doubt that you'll consider it worthwhile to tear things apart again for the sake of getting the PB to sleep when you close it — it will be much simpler just to put it to sleep manually before closing it. The fact that it doesn't wake automatically when you open it is a blessing in disguise: it means the Powerbook can't wake up and cook itself to death inside your carrying case if the latch accidentally releases in there.

  • Won't go to sleep when I close the lid

When I close the lid of my Macbook Pro (running Lion) it doesn't realy go to sleep.  When I open the lid the screen goes black.  Does anyone know what the issue is?
    Thanks

if you're sayingt he light doesn't blink anymore, that's new to lion.
if you are really having issues that you think are a bug instead of how it should work, try resetting your SMC as this should solve any issues with putting your computer to sleep with the lid.

  • MBP Won't sleep when the screen/lid closes...

I have had my MBP for almost a year now and my AppleCare is about to expire...
Recently when I close the screen the computer will continue to run and operate as if it was never closed and will not sleep. I took it to the Apple store and they did an SMC reset which sorta helped for about 5 hours. Now it goes to sleep but will take almost a minute at times or won't sleep at all. I was told I would have to send my computer out for a couple weeks but I can't do without a computer. Please help me fix this or help me convince Apple to give me a new computer.

Run /Utilities/Console and click 'All Messages' top left then close the lid and try and put it to sleep.
If no dice open the lid and look at the Console messages - in particular look for lines including "sleepimage" and see what it says ?
I suspect there's not enough space left on your hard drive, or it badly fragmented, and the RAM sleep image can't be created or stored properly ...

  • MB tiger 10.4.11 won't shut down but just go to sleep when I close the lid

    Hi,
I'm new to this forum but I'm desperate for your help with my Macbook 10.4.11.
Recently it doesn't shut down properly and each time I shut it down thru the green apple, it just doesn't shut down definitely but after some seconds, the screen turns to black but my mouse's light is still on. When I close the lid, the sleep light is on, too.
I've tried many advices like disabling remote facilities, e.g. Bluetooth, but it won't help. I've updated all softwares and even SMC but that won't help either. Did anyone have the same problem like mine and more important, have you had the answer yet??? I'm fed up with pressing the power off button each time.
For more info, I've installed boot camp and windows but after that, I've uninstalled it and reinstalled brand new Mac OS so there's no way that the problem comes from Windows.
Thanks in advance and waiting desperately for your help...

Hi NOTHING SPECIAL, and a warm welcome to the forums!
How much free space is on the Hard Drive?
Have you done any OS or Disk Maintenance?
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
See if it does better then after a restart or two.

Let's see whether this file APSDaemon.exe is the problem here.
    Close your iTunes.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del key and choose Task Manager. In the "Processes" Tab, select the file APSDaemon.exe and click End Prosses button, then close the task manager window.
Now open itunes and see if it is working?
If that works, make sure you do this below to prevent same problem after restarting windows:
Go to. START button, type in
    MSCONFIG
    Hit ENTER
Click STARTUP Tab, Uncheck "Apple Push", click OK.
    Restart Windows.
