FF33.1 on Win7 - clicking on a Yahoo search hit sometimes closes tab?
Example: Yahoo search "norton 360" - first few hits are Symantec and clicking any of them closes the tab. Clicking the Best Buy link works correctly...
Edit>>> My FF just updated to 33.1.1 and problem persists...

Cannot open Yahoo searches in a new tab
When I do a Yahoo search and attempt to open a search result in a new tab, I get "You have chosen to open and application/octet-stream" and it opens an "Untitled" tab.
I can avoid this error by simply clicking on the search result in the same window.
This has just started in the past two days and is generally Yahoo specific. I don't have this problem with Google, but I don't normally use Google.
Similar Mozilla error have been reported in the past, but not exactly like this error.
No recent or significant changes in my OS or PC configurationIn my case it was the greasemonkey addon. Once i've desable it, everything went right. Thanks for that hint!

Unwanted yahoo search when open new tab, can't remove it.
I have picked up yahoo search and it won't remove. doesn't appear in add ons or toolbars or programs on computer or in registry. I deleted and reloaded firefox and its still there.
yahoo is not in my search engines. So, if I understand correctly, when you open a new tab, instead of being blank, it's the yahoo search page?
If that is the case, try this set of instructions and see if it fixes the problem:

I have always used Yahoo search; while Firefox had Google as the default, I would change it to Yahoo. I would sometimes try google but one of the things that annoyed me with Google was if you clicked on a link, that link would, by default, open on the same page forcing you to "go back" to see the list again. With Yahoo OTOH clicking on a link would always open in a new tab allowing me to more easily go back and forth between selected links.
Yes I know I can right click and open in a new tab but is there any way to get the old default behavior back where a normal left click on the Yahoo search results open in a new tab ? I have a condition which affects my right hand and using the right click button can sometimes be gets cumbersome at times. It didn't work at first, but eventually got there.
1. Your screenshot shows the method of selecting Yahoo as the default search provider. There is no option to "remove". I select Firefox Help and underneath uncheck Yahoo and all other providers and then set it as default.
2. I then go to search.yahoo.com and try a search. It does work the way I wanted.... for whatever reason it wouldn't yesterday.
3. I go to Go to http://mycroftproject.com/yahoo-search-plugins.html , scrolled down to 16. Major Engines , Yahoo! en-WW (search.yahoo.com) by Denny Kluge. This was what I had to do when Firefox 1st changed the default to Google.
4. I added it and had two Yahoo's in the list, I checked the 2nd one. Add something in the search windows, hit the down arrow and elected Yahoo to search with. It didn't work, same behavior as before.
5. I then changed to selecting Yahoo again as the default.
6. Now here's the weird part .....
a) With Yahoo selected as the default and letting it work as the default, it works as desired.
b) With Yahoo selected as the default, but using the Yahoo selection as an option, it doesn't work.
I have since unchecked the Yahoo box in the list of "alternate search engines to display " while leaving it selected as the default selection. It's worked 3 times so far; hopefully it survives a close and reopen :)
Muchos Grassyass. I dreaded trying to find the mycroft site again as it took me quite a while the last time. -
whenever i am opening a new tab - yahoo search page is opening up. How can I get rid of this. I want a blank page to be open up instead of yahoo search page in new tab.
This might be a feature of the Yahoo toolbar. Can you live without it? To disable or remove the toolbar, use
Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions category
After restarting Firefox, do new tabs become blank again? -
As I said above: I Have Firefox browser home page set for Google search, but each following tab (but suddenly now it) opens w/Yahoo search instead. How do I remove the Yahoo search off the added tabs and have Google home page/ blank tab (like it used to be) on every tab????
The new Firefox Start Page - '''about:home''' - isn't the same homepage that was used in earlier versions of Firefox - http://www.google.com/firefox There is no "setting" for the "Search Container" on the about:home "page" - in the Options UI or in about:config .
Set that old "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" as your "homepage". <br />
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
Or open your Profile folder and delete the '''webappsstore.sqlite''' file and hope the "Search Container" on the about:home "page" returns to Google. When it '''''is''''' Google, the Google logo appears to the left of the "Search Container"; when the search engine there has been changed to something else, there is no logo to the left of the "Search Container" - AFAIK. -
I find the yahoo search page very irritating. much prefer the blank page I used to get. if I knew how to get rid of anything yahoo I would.

You need to update your plug-ins. It is important to keep them updated due to continuing security fixes and improvements in those plug-ins:

I have a yahoo search bar which was installed during a download and installation of SIW.exe a system information application from http://gtopala.com/. It was the freeware version which is add based software. However I didn't expect that the search function would be such a nusance and interfere with Firefox's functions.
The search bar is acting like a App tab that I can't move or get rid of. Ther is no option to unpin the object when I right click on the bar or to change it in any way using the 'group your tab' function to the right of the tab tool bar.Reply: Cor-el > Excellent!! Thank You. In Tools, Add Ons, Extensions there was a Default Tab enntry which was the culprit. Am running W7 so the XP Tools, Options, Advanced , Use Hardware acceleration when available, wasn't of much help here, however I did fix a problem on another computer running XP with that same fix. Thank You very much! HD

Hi Apple,
When I click on the Yahoo icon on weather app, it takes to safari as expected, but it changes the search engine to Yahoo (i have to go back to settings and change the search back to google). This for me is a usability issue. Do you have this issue in pipeline to be fixed?
Thanks,
AdityaI'm not getting that behaviour at all. It looks a bit like it's changed to Yahoo because you get a Yahoo search box in the webpage and it says "Yahoo search results..." at the top, but the search box within Safari is still Google.

I just upgraded to firefox 4 this morning. My homepage is yahoo.com. Sometimes when I click a news story, about 30 seconds into reading it, the page changes to a search result page with the heading that the page I requested can't be found. If I click the back button, it goes back to the page I was on. It doesn't happen on every one, and I haven't seen a pattern to which sites it happens on. It also happened when I was trying to make a payment on ebay.
To revert to Google as your preferred search engine, please do the following.<br><br>
* In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.<br><br>
* In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''<br><br>
* Double click it and remove whatever's in there (probably Yahoo) and replace it with http://www.google.com/search?q=<br>
The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.
'''To reset your home page, do the following'''.<br><br>
* Go to the site you want to set as your homepage.<br><br>
* Click the orange Firefox button and go to '''Options '''| '''Options '''| '''General'''.<br><br>
* Make sure it says "''Show My Homepage''" in the first dropdown menu.<br><br>
* Click the button called "'''Use Current Pages'''" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.<br> -

How can I get rid of Yahoo Search starting up everytime I click + to open a new tab
I recently downloaded a product (can't remember what it was) but
it included the Yahoo Search Toolbar. Now, although I have
disabled the ToolBar, everytime I click on + to open a new tab it
ALWAYS brings up Yahoo Search Box before I can type in the ULR I am wanting to open. It's driving me mad.
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of Yahoo Search Box. It does
not appear in "Add or remove programs"

I speak English. I am living in Chile and have a Dell/MS Windows Vista (English) laptop. I have Firefox 3.6.12. I have installed the Spanish (Mexico) dictionary. I right-click in a Yahoo e-mail window and select Languages - Spanish (Mexico) and start typing in Spanish, but it is not correcting my mistakes, or offering alternative spellings.
I don't know if I have the correct plug-in, correct settings, or am expecting something that isn't possible.Do other dictionaries work if you select them in the Languages menu?

Clicking for a new tab brings up yahoo search instead of google as usual. What gives?
I always use fire fox and google is my home page. Today when i click to open a new tab instead of opening a google search page it opens a yahoo search bar. Google is my only search engine and I have no yahoo add-on. I have even blocked the site and it still pops up.
The "usual" action when opening a New Tab is to display a '''blank page'''. Something you installed changed that action, and it may not have the Yahoo name, so you need to figure out which addon did that change.
