FF4 sort of works in Win 98SE via Kernel Ex but slow and lacks features

I had last version of FF2 working fine with Win 98SE but could not access features using java, Flash, etc.; I installed Kernel EX and FF4, after which it seems to work but is slow as molasses...takes more than a minute to load home page or other link, after which it won't scroll for 10 to 30 seconds. There is no history or bookmarks and the back/forward buttons do not work consistently.
It works well enough to be promising, but frustrating; is there any hope? Perhaps missing system files from Win XP? Any help greatly appreciated...I really like Firefox!

Sorry, your operating system has been officially obsolete since July 11, 2006. It's likely that websites require more recent versions of Flash Player and Java than you can run.

You can try starting Firefox in a new profile and see if that helps any. But it's likely that these problems are caused by running Firefox on an unsupported operating system with the aid of third-party software. Having an overclocked CPU doesn't help matters either.

If things aren't any better in a new profile, you can try Firefox 3.6.28 instead. This version is now obsolete and insecure, but that seems a bit of a moot point in your case.

If you're unable to upgrade your hardware, you may want to consider switching from Windows to Linux. You would have the benefit of an up-to-date and secure operating system, browser and plug-ins at no cost.

Videos played via internet are so slow and choppy, SLOW Firefox

Was wondering if anyone knew for sure the reason why videos/movie trailers played thru either Safari or Firefox are extremely slow and choppy on my G5 imac or G4 iBook laptop. Not sure if the outdated processors cant handle the flash embedded videos Youtube, Quicktime and other sites post, but it is really annoying not to be able to watch anything smoothly. Even if i let the entire video load (if it is a quicktime), then play it, it still is very choppy. The audio plays fine, but the video never keeps up. I have a 6mb DSL connection, so that cant be the problem. Any video I play via my iPod Touch (aside from flash videos it cant play) they are as smooth as can be (And that is via a wireless connection). Which makes me think it is a processor issue. Any thoughts?
Anyone have any suggestions on how I can remedy this situation? (aside from buying a new computer...)
PLUS, does anyone notice how slow Firefox is, or is it just me? Seems like even when i type in this form field, time lags as the letters show up. I have the latest version, and it is so slow. Switching tabs takes time... Reading and accessing RSS fields in the Feed Sidebar plug in is really slow...

QuickTime is designed to "drop" frames during playback when the machine can't keep up with the video data rate (audio continues normally). This may appear as a "stutter" during playback on an older machine.
It's not based on the Internet connection speed.
Apple movie trailers use the newer (2005) H.264 video codec and they demand a high CPU (Intel is best). You should get better performance on your G5 than on the G4.
Videos encoded using Flash will be equally difficult to view on older machines

None of my games work in Win XP via Boot Camp

I have the 20" iMac (MA200LL/A i believe is the model) and it has the 2GHz Intel Core Duo, 1.5 GB RAM, and 250 GB Hard Drive with Radeon X1600. I have installed OS X Leopard and through the embedded Boot Camp software, have installed Windows XP Home SP2. It runs great except I cannot play games, and SOME videos are displayed wierd. (Mostly streaming videos, but some videos I have on my hard drive don't work either) The video problem was solved my turning off Windows Video Acceleration. However that made it so I couldn't watch them in full screen. Now my games when loaded up, are glitchy right off the bat, flashing and such. And usually I can't get past the Menu. Unreal Tournament Game of the Year Edition plays, however the movement is SLOWWWW. The game Eragon is the only one so far to play smoothly. All others are not working. I have installed the latest ATI drivers for the Mobility Radeon X1600. Still don't work.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I have JUST switched to Mac and this iMac was my first purchase. And I am afraid that if I cannot get my games to work I am going back to PC only. I DON'T WANT THAT!

The key board issues can be alleviated via a keyboard mapper, just google it. As for right click, this utility will make it happen for you http://tinyurl.com/gbmmh
Brightness should work via a icon in the windows tool tray (next to clock). There should be a icon that looks like a screen, click it and it'll allow you to increase/decrease screen brightness. That should have been installed with the boot camp driver disk you created. Volume same thing, use the sound icon in the task bar.
CTRL-ALT-DEL can be accessed via right clicking the task bar and chosing task manager.
You can't two finger scroll however. If you're not doing games or video editing in windows you may wish to get parallels which will allow you to run XP while in OS X and most everything works and quite well, including two finger scrolling.

Working on Win 8.1, Downloaded PSE 13, installed, and it asks me for login every time I start the software. Any way around this? I want to use PSE on a machine that will be permanently offline.

and then rename the oobe folder to new oobe folder
But then our chat session automatically terminated and that's as far as I got.

Try this. Type in the address bar about:config. Accept the warning. In the page that appears, in the Filter box, type network.http.max-connections. Change the value to 32 (which is probably set to 256 in your case). Close that page. Restart the browser.

Bluetooth Mighty Mouse and Keyboard not working in Win XP!

Hi All,
I simply cannot get my Bluetooth Mighty Mouse and Keyboard to work in Win XP via Bootcamp! The bluetooth icon appears in the tray and even shows that they are connected but they do nothing at all. One thing to note is that they show up as connected but with no password. Could this be the problem? If I reconnected the two with new passcodes for XP, would they still work when I reboot in OSX?

Cannot get Sound to work in Wine

Hello together,
I am having a problem with my otherwise perfectly well running Arch installation.
Whatever I try, I seem unable to get the sound to work in wine. There is sound in games
and when I click "test sound" in the audio tab in winecfg, but it is crackled and seems to play much to fast.
Also, when clicking "test sound" in the audio tab in winecfg, the following error message appears:
err:ole:CoInitializeEx Attempt to change threading model of this apartment from multi-threaded to apartment threaded
My winearch is set to 32 bit (but the same problem occurs if set to 64 bit) and I use pulseaudio
as the sound server. The sound in all native applications works just fine. Also, I have pulseaudio-alsa
installed and in winecfg, winealsa is correctly listed as sound driver.
I already tried several sloutions (and checked if I have the right libraries and lib32- installed), like:
- setting tsched=0 (or to 1, both did change nothing) in /etc/pulse/default.pa
- set default-sample-rate=48000 or default-fragment-size-msec=5 in /etc/pulse/deamon.conf
These were solutions which helped other users, but sadly did not fix my problem.
Can you think of anything else I could try?

Thank you for your comments, but it was my fault completely...
The default-fragment-size-msec=5 did work in the end, I just did not delete the ";" at the beginning of the line.
What a stupid mistake...
Well, for other people as a hint: It you change something in /etc/pulse/deamon.conf, always remove die semicolon at the beginning of the line.

The phone will "work" with any standard GSM carrier.
However, LTE and iPhone features like FaceTime, iMessage, Visual Voicemail may not work unless you use a carrier that officially supports iPhones.

Can't get my LaserJet 5P working with Win 8.1. My MFC Brother is working fine. Have set the HP as the default; It is seen in printer/devices; info says it is installed correctly; when asked to print a word test, it doesn't; when asked to print a short typedd Word test, it doesn't; only get a gentle music sound on speakers; when checking the what's printing feature, I see there is an error opposite the document I want to test print. Everything seems to line-up ok, but can't print. Seems like it wants to go, like the little engine that could, but something is missing. Am connected via usb/parallel cable, port 1. The printer is an oldie', but a good workhorse, and saves on ink. Much thanks, Jim1

If I recall correctly, postscript is on a removable card on this printer. The symptoms you get sound like the postscript card is removed, but you're using the standard Mac driver - which is for postscript.
The other page language the printer understands is HP's PCL. There is either a Gutenprint driver included in OS X for this printer, or you can update Gutenprint to get it. Gutenprint outputs PCL instead of postscript.

Thanks for the tip Mathias, it's always good to see people trying out experimental things with the products.
We're providing a new module (mod_oc4j) with our Oracle9iAS Release2 product to do this directly from the Oracle HTTP Server (Apache). We've re-written bits and pieces of the module to improve it's performance. Likewise, we've also integrated mod_oc4j with our HA story so it will be notified when new OC4J instances are brought online or if existing ones go down, enabling it to actively route requests around the available OC4J instances.

Can't get wireless keybord to work with Win XP

Hello,
I've installed Win XP SP2 on my iMac via Boot Camp and am having problems getting the Apple Wireless keyboard to connect. I did get the wireless mighty mouse to work by entering a passkey of "0000". For the keyboard, I've tried entering an 8 digit key and 16 digit key and also let Windows pick a key for me but nothing works. Initially the status would show that the keyboard is connected but then after a few seconds it will say there is no passkey or something to that effect, and the connection would then be lost.
Does anyone have any ideas how to get this to work?

Had problems with wireless keyboard, but have just got it working a second time. Might be worth trying.
1. You need a working mouse (either a USB, or the mighty mouse.)
2. I did try the method as described in the bootcamp guide, but I don't have a USB keyboard so got the computer to choose the passkey. The keyboard would initially connect, then lose the passkey.
Then I tried this
1. Run the same add bluetooth device program. Make sure it's in discovery mode (check the tabs).
2. Click add device and wait for keyboard to appear.
3. DON'T then click next. Instead right click the keyboard icon, click properties, one of the tabs has an option to download drivers. Tick this and click apply.
4. I was advised to reset, which I haven't, and haven't closed the bluetooth install program. The keyboard is now working.
I can only think it's something to do with working around the need for a paaskey, which seems to have caused some problems. Please let me know how you find this.

Features in win XP via boot camp

has anyone found ways to make some of the mac features work in windows?
for example, in order to get to the task manager u have to manually run it, because windows thinks your delete key is a "backspace" and the mac dosen't have a delete key. this makes it hard to hit ctrl-alt-del.
perhaps the biggest thing that will be a problem is the ability to right click. anyone know how to set a shift-click or something to be a right click?
Also, the volume and brightness keys do not seem to work in win xp.
and, the 2 fingered scrolling seems to be a constant anoyance to not have in windows.
other than that everything seems to be working good for me constantly switching between windows and mac.

USB not recognised on XP, but works with Win 7

I wonder if anyone can help me?
I plugged my Iphone 3G into my Work computer (win 7) yesterday and installed Itunes with no problems. I didn't sync or anything, I authorised my work computer as well.
I then went home and the second I plugged it in to me Dell d610 on Win XP is says USB device not recognised. I've looked at various forums and have unplugged and turned off laptop and then uninstalled USB root hubs but it will not work.
I then come into work today and find it works fine on my work Win 7 machine.
It's not the computer as I have 3 win xp machines at home and it's the same with all of them, 1 of them was patched a few days ago but the others havn't been patched since October.
I wonder if anyone knows what it could be?

i have a MBP 17" and im trying to block some web pages for a certain non admin user ....does Windows group policy or the GPMC still work on win XP pro via boot camp

Yes it should work fine. If you are planning to work your mac on your network, there are a few security items you will need to disable within the GPMC to be able to access shares on windows boxes - running windows though will have no differences as it is essentially just another windows box.
