FF4 will not install on my iMac g5 running OS 10.5.8.

I have downloaded Firefox 4.0 several times, however each time I try to install it on my iMac G5 running OS 10.5.8, I get a message that says "You can't open this application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture."

Firefox 4 will not work on a PPC Mac, it requires an Intel Mac. There is a third-party build that will work on the PPC Mac, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/

The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:

You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

  • PSE 8 will not install on new imac OSX Snow Leopard

    28. Feb 26, 2010 4:16 PM in response to: docmark86
Re: PSE8 will not install on Mac Snow Leopard 10.6.1
I have a new iMac 21.5 screen with OSX Snow Leopard.  I installed IWork and turbo tax with no problem.  Nothing else.
PSE 8 installation fails after about 80% installation just as install for PSE 8 starts. I've spent hours on the phone with Adobe and they blame it on OSX   Error analysis states:   "Uncaught JavaScript exception: Unable to read Adobe file version for path /Library/Fonts/MinionPro-Bold.otf  Apple techs have also tried."   The latest communications from Adobe instructs me on validating fonts.  We have also tried  CS3 Clean Script since the install failed several times. Case # is 0181442609.    Nothing works and Apple techs are still researching.  Any suggestions from an Adobe professional?  I am new to the Mac environment so any complicated actions may require some "hand holding".
    Thanks to all!
    Doc

Doc, I would suggest go to the font location which from your post is: <Macintosh HD>/Library/Fonts/MinionPro-Bold.otf. There should be a font file with this name. If it exists, just "cut" it from this location and paste it on the desktop for some time and then try to install PSE again and see if that works.
If the font file doesnt exist and instead an empty folder names "MinionPro-Bold.otf" exists, then delete the folder and then try to install PSE again.
In either case, please do attach the installer log file in the forum thread so that I can have a look at it. They can be located at the below location:
    <Macintosh HD>/Library/Logs/Adobe/Installer/"...Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0...."
If there are multiple copies of the installer log files, then please delete them and then try to install PSE 8 again. If it fails, quit the installer and attach the new log files which are generated to this thread.

  • Mac OS 9 will NOT install on 350MHz iMac

recently i acquired an old imac g three, and it has 256mb of ram and it had a password set on it so i decided to format the disk and installed 10.2 on it. turns out in order to install panther i need to install the firmware update so i have to make a partition of os 9 and install it. problem is the computer will NOT RECOGNIZE THE DISC. i have tried holding c, holding option, and formatting at least three times (while checking install mac os 9 drivers) to install the outdated abandonware and IT DOES NOT WORK.
could it have to do with the pram battery being out? i know some people who have this problem however. it's very annoyig and i just want to get this thing back on its feet.
thank you if you can help.

The 350 MHz iMacs built between Oct. 1999 and July 2000 (model identifier PowerMac2,1) originally shipped with OS 8.6.  These came in six colors:  Blueberry, Grape, Strawberry, Tangerine, Lime, and Graphite.  You need a full retail copy of OS 9 to install on this iMac.
The 350 MHz iMacs built between July 2000 and Feb. 2001 (model identifier PowerMac2,2) did ship with OS 9.0.4.  These came five colors:  Indigo, Ruby, Sage, Snow, and Graphite.  You'd need an OS 9 original disk for these machines or a full retail copy of OS 9 to install on it.
Apple made hardware specific original OS install disks for each model of iMac that shipped.  If you put these original disks in a machine that didn't have the correct hardware, they wouldn't work.  So you may have a copy of OS 9 that was shipped with a different version of the iMac you have.
You can check eBay for retail copies of OS 9.
All that being said, it might just be the PRAM battery.
    Good luck.

  • ScanGear MX700 Drivers will not install on new iMac

I am new to Mac, so I'm not sure if I am missing a step. Using the install disk that came with my new Canon MX700 I installed the scanner drivers in the series:
    ScanGear MX700 series 1370.mpkg
    IJ Scanner Selector 220.pkg
    ScanGear MX700 series 1370.pkg
    ScanGear MX700 series Network 1370.pkg
After I load each package, I allow the computer to restart to complete installation as suggested after each download.
I've turned the printer off and on (using USB to connect to iMac). When I attempt to scan using the menu on the Canon, a window pops up: "Scanner is not selected. Click [Scanner Selection] to select scanner. Scanner driver will be closed." When I select "Scanner Selection" another window opens called "Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector" but there is nothing in the Network Device List to select. Under TWAIN Data Source Name is "Canon MX700 series Network", but there is nothing with a MAC Address. I am unable to select anything and that is as far as I've gotten.
    HELP!

If you are using the control panel on the MX700 to scan, then after you press the SCAN button, you are prompted to select the connection method > Local (USB) or 'LAN Connected'. Based on the message you are getting, and since you have the MX700 connected via USB, I would guess that you are selecting 'LAN..'. If at this stage you use the arrow up or down key to select 'Local', then I believe you will not get the message.
If you are scanning from your iMac, rather than using the MX700 Control Panel, then you do not need to configure the IJ Network scanner since you have the MX700 connected via USB.
You should be able to open an application like Image Capture to check the USB connection. If a message stating that 'No Image Capture device is connected', then click on 'Devices' and then 'Browse Devices'. The 'Image Capture Device Browser' should appear showing the MX700 under TWAIN Data Sources. If you select this entry it should show it as connected. If it doesn't show it as connected, then you could have a problem with the USB cable. A previous post had a Canon user capable of printing but they were unable to scan and the included USB was the fault.
If the connection is okay you should be able to scan using the Image Capture application. After the prescan is performed, you must select a portion of the displayed image using your mouse by dragging from one corner to the opposite corner. Now the SCAN button will be available.
Note also that you can use the Preview application to scan.

  • Despite having all the correct serial #'s CS3 will not install on new Imac

    Hi,
    Please Help.
I am trying to install CS3 on my new iMac 27 running 10.62.
First I just put in the CS3 disk, and when it came time for the full version number of
CS(full version). It would not accept it. Then I tried the serial number from my copy of
PS 7 (Full version), it would not accept that. Then I copied my copy of CS to the application folder
on the new machine and tried to install CS3 again. No go.
It could not detect the copy. Am I doing something incorrect?
I checked and rechecked the serial numbers, they are correct.

Bob, Thanks . This is what happened. I pulled my serial number from the start page of PS7, except it was an update 7.01 and I didn't notice. Anyway I pilled the disk and got the number off it. It installed fine.

  • Leopard will not install on my iMac

    Hey all,
so I have upgraded all of my laptops in the house with leopard with absolutely no problems. So I go to upgrade tiger to leopard on my iMac and it restarts fine but when you have to choose a location for it to install it tells you that it must erase the entire volume.
there is more than enough space on the HD but the little yellow triangle still appears so I can not proceed with the install without losing everything on the comp which I really do not want to do!
    please help!!

In your Utilities folder is an app called DU for Disk Utility.app
Run it, select your physical drive and check the disk.
Then select your OS-X partition and run permissions repair.
Zapping the PRAM is a process of resetting some of the boot items.
    Here's how to "zap PRAM"

Shut down your computer. Turn the computer back on and immediately hold down Command-Option-P-R, continuing to press until you hear the startup sound for the second time. This resets the computer’s parameter random-access memory (PRAM).
IMPORTANT: Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.
Sometimes we forget about this Mac argot which has no correspondence to the PC world.
You'll catch on quickly though. Spend some time on these boards and you will have Mac-speak down pat.

  • PSE 8 will not install on my iMac

I've been trying to install PSE 8 on my iMac for the last 8 hours and I've searched and read until my mind feels foggy...
I just installed Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.2 and then tried to install PSE 8.  After I insert the installation disk I get a PSE 8 disk image on my desktop.  When I click on the disk image a PSE window opens that contains a PSE 8 folder and a Adobe Reader folder and Readme files in several languages.  Clicking on the PSE 8 folder only opens other miscellaneous files and none of seem to have anything to do with starting the installation process.
The strange thing is that, on one occasion after dozens of tries to start the installation, I clicked on the PSE 8 folder and it opened a window with a setup folder.  When I clicked that folder, installation began and I thought everything was going to be o'k.  But, in the end, I got a message that the installation had failed.  I restarted my computer and tried again but the setup folder is nowhere to be found again.  When I checked my applications, I found that Bridge CS4 and Extension Manager CS4 are there but there is no PSE 8 editing program.
Something is obviously buggy and/or some installation files are corrupted and I have no idea what to do next.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

O'k...thanks for you help V...I managed to finally get PSE 8 successfully installed!
Here is what worked for me:
    1.  I used an a great, little application named AppDelete to uninstall Bridge CS4 and Extension Manager for CS4 and anything else Adobe that was added to my applications folder from the previous failed installation attempts.  Some parts of the total PSE 8 package were actually getting installed (Bridge CS4 etc.) but, near the end of the installation process, it would hang up and abort when the progress bar showed "now installing PSE 8."
By the way, AppDelete is an inexpensive Mac uninstaller that can be purchased and downloaded from the web.  It finds and deletes files that are often left behind when deleting applications by the normal proess of dragging them to the trash on a Mac.
(Note:  I did not uninstall Photoshop CS which was the only other Adobe app I have since it wasn't associated with my attempts to install PSE 8.)
    2.  Then using the PSE 8 installation disk to open the PSE window, I copied the PSE 8 folder to my desktop, ejected the installation disk and then started the reinstallation by clinking PSE 8 setup folder from my desktop.  This time the installtion was successful.
It appears that something got messed up when I upgraded to Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.2 and then tried to install PSE 8.  Judging from the number of posts I found regarding others who have experienced similar problems, I hope Adobe is working on a patch for Mac users.
I'm not sure why this problem occurred in the first place, but with your assistance it has been solved.
    Thanks very much!

  • Snow Leopard will not install on my iMac

When attempting to install Snow Leopard on my iMac, the install says that there is no bootable disk. We have the drive partitioned - front drive has OS, back drive is exclusively storage. It says neither drive is bootable, yet we do indeed boot.

Is your iMac an Intel-based? Are you upgrading from Tiger or Leopard? I suspect the issue lies with your drive not being properly formatted with the GUID partition table which is native to Leopard and Snow Leopard. Generally, you can find more information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1600

  • Adobe Reader will not install to my IMac OSX 100.7.5

When I have a program open and want to download a PDF file that is when I get message to install Adobe Reader in order to print the PDF, when I try to download the Reader it either goes through the install action and says it is downloaded or it tells me the Adobe Reader is already installed.  Message doesn't matter because it is not downloaded and installed.  The only thing I find in my Finder download section is the Adobe Reader install download.  I have tried this so many times.  When I first got my Mac I downloaded the Adobe Flash Player with no problem.  Any suggestions?

    Ok. Thanks Mike.
It would be nice if Adobe published the correct information then.
The Flash Player page specifically shows 12.0.0.4 for Safari, FireFox and Opera. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
Correct info would have prevented a pointless waste of time. The other Flash Player test page also reports the wrong information when viewing via Safari and FF.

I have allow apps from anywhere already set on my packaging system. And it was working prior to the update. It went through a self updating process and now gives this error. It's almost like a networking issue, like it can't complete communicating with adobe, because a reinstall doesn't resolve the issue.
