FF401 is taking 215MB of RAM with one tab open can mem usage be made smaller?

System 256MB RAM, PIII, XP PRO, SR3 and all current updates applied. Just installed FF401 and it is taking up most all my memory. Every time I open a new tab FF increases mem size by 10-20MB. Currently one tab open and FF uses 215MB on www.justin.tv

Ok, I found the solution (for at least my boxes!) Yay!
The trouble is that Firefox changed the amount of HTTP connections it permits simultaneously from 30 (pre version 6) up to 256 for version 7. Each connection uses CPU and Memory!!!!!
I won't ponder why they did that, but the fix is easy:
Lower the max number of HTTP connections
In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter.
The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
In the Filter box at the top, type network.http.max-connections.
Double-click on the network.http.max-connections preference, the "Enter integer value" dialog box will open.
In the field, type 30 which was the default value in old versions of Firefox and click OK.
My version 7.0.1 firefox suddenly started working! Yay!

  • Firefox with one tab open takes up 72 Mb. I disabled all of my Add-ons. How do I solve this?

I disabled all of my add-ons and my Firefox theme is the default that comes with the download.
I cleared my Cache every time I start Firefox up, and I set my internet history to automatically become deleted once I close my Firefox.
The problem is that despite all of my add-ons being disabled and my internet history becoming wiped clean once I close the program Firefox, ***With only one tab open*** takes up 48 Mb.
One time I had only ten tabs open and it took up 600,000 k in my processes (585 Mb.)
This is driving me crazy as in I have been trying to figure it out all day.
I used the Google Chrome Web browser but every tab I open up it creates a new Chrome in the processes and each process takes up 48 Mb.
    What is going on?
    I used Firefox 3.6
and then I tried Firefox 4
both did the same thing. What can I do to fix this?'''bold text'''

hello, please install the search reset addon - it will revert the most common customizations those adware programs do in firefox back to the default: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/

  • With multiple tabs open, crashing with no warning to close tabs and no crash report. Just bye-bye.

I have the option to warn me before closing multiple tabs selected. I left my desk for an hour with multiple windows open. When I returned, all but 1 window disappeared. I was typing on Facebook with multiple tabs open and instantly all tabs and windows disappeared without warning. No crash report either. I search for the keyboard shortcut to close a window (Alt+Spacebar+C). I tested with multiple tabs open, no warning - just instantly closed. I do not think I hit these keys by accident and I would like an option for a warning with one tab open or multiple tabs.

Ok I solved the problem if anyone is looking at this.
Add on "Hide Caption Title bar Plus" was the offender
Option - define option for close button. Was on recommended not default.
    Choose default, problem eliminated!

  • With more than one tab open in private browsing, how do I leave private browsing all at once?

Before the latest Firefox update I was able to close a private browsing session by selecting the STOP menu item and checking the appropriate selection in a pop up dialogue box. Now, when I have more than one tab open in private browsing, I can't end the session by selecting STOP. The dialogue box opens and offers a START option instead of a STOP option. The same is true using CONTROL+SHIFT+P. To work around the situation I need to close all but one tab and then stop the session. I want to go back to the way it was before the update and opt out of a private session entirely, regardless of how many windows or table are open, with the former two-step process.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
    See:

  • Make firefox start with one tab using mozilla.cfg

i create new package for fire fox when start firefox it is open two tabs for same link
i need it to start with one tab i use the this in my mozilla.cfg :
    <pre><nowiki>defaultPref("startup.homepage_welcome_url", "https://portal.field.weightwatchers.ca/");
    defaultPref("startup.homepage_override_url", "https://portal.field.weightwatchers.ca/");
    defaultPref("browser.startup.homepage", "data:text/plain,browser.startup.homepage=https://portal.field.weightwatchers.ca/");</nowiki></pre>

When do you want to see this page?
This only sets the default home page, so if users have change this setting then it won't have effect.<br />
If you use pref() then you set this pref for the current session, but this will make it impossible to make changes that last across a session.
You also may want to set to open the Home page on startup (browser.startup.page = 1).

  • If i sign up for itunes match with one apple id can i get the other apple id songs

if i sign up for itunes match with one apple id can i get the other apple id songs

I'm assuming you mean can you access the purchased songs from another apple id.  No you cannot.  You will need to download these on another computer and then transfer the hard files into your itunes library that you are using icloud with and let icloud match them.
You cannot access two different id's from one match account.  Also, if you sign out of the match account that you are signed into to another to download purchases you will not be able to sign back into your match account for three months.  So do not do this either.  Just use a friends computer or another way.

  • Although the proper options are set, firefox will not notify me "first" when I shut down firefox with multiple tabs open.

Firefox should warn me before shutting down when I have more than one tab open. Although the proper options are set, it just shuts down. VERY PAINFUL.

Would you check what you have with I've listed in item #31 at
    * http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#tabslost
Whether you do it the old way or the new way you can always pick up your last session from the History menu. So even if choose not to restore you tabs at the end of session or are not asked you still have the option to work from the last session through the History menu.
You can make '''Firefox 8.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • I only have one tab open but when I close firefox I get the notification that I am about to close 5 tabs. I can not see these other tabs.

First it started out as just 1 extra tab. Then it was 3 and now it's 5 tabs. But there is only one tab open and I checked for pinning and an extra window open.

It's possible you have a second ''tab group''. This article describes the concept: [[Use Tab Groups to organize a lot of tabs]].
To work with the tab groups in the current window, press Ctrl+Shift+e or look for a menu button toward the far right end of the tab bar. If you find multiple tab groups, you should be able to drag all the tabs into a single group so you can work with that one group and see what is getting closed.
I don't use this feature myself, so if that doesn't work, hopefully another volunteer can provide a better set of steps.

  • FF31: When I only have one tab open, even a blank one, and close the tab the window closes.

FF31: When I only have one tab open, even a blank one, and close the tab the window closes.

Type '''about:config''' in the Location bar and hit '''''Enter'''''.
    ''Accept the warning.''
    '''browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab'''
double-click to toggle to '''false''' and then restart Firefox.
Now if you close the last tab the window (or Firefox) won't close, but a New Tab will be there.

  • How Do I Launch Safari with Multiple Tabs Open to Specific Pages?

I'd like a Windows shortcut that opens Safari with multiple tabs open to specific pages. With other browsers (Firefox, IE, Chrome, etc.), this is easily done by composing a command line that lists all desired URLs. However, Safari doesn't seem to use the same command line syntax as other browsers. Furthermore, I can't find Safari's command line syntax documented anywhere. From the comments I've seen while researching this question, I suspect this is a neglected area of Safari development, and that Safari simply can't be configured to open multiple pages. However, I'd like to make sure. Can it?
    -TC

It strikes me that it should be possible to do that (or something similar) by building a safari extension, TC. Both Sessions and SafariRestore are able to launch multiple tabs from a previous session, so it seems like you should be able to create an extension that launches multiple tabs open to specific sites when Safari is launched.

  • Does Safari use up bandwidth if I leave it running in the background with zero tabs open?  Do I have to quit the application each time I am done to avoid exceeding my internet usage/host quota?

If I leave Safari running in the background with zero tabs open, does it still use up bandwidth?  Do I have to quit the application each time I am done to avoid exceeding my internet usage/host quota?  I'd rather not have to since quitting the application and restarting it when I need to will quickly become tedious, but if that saves me on bandwidth usage, I'll do it.  Thanks!
