Ff6.0.2: New Instance of Awesome Bar's default search changing from Google.

The default search engine for my Awesome Bar changed from Google to Yahoo after today's update to 6.0.2.
This issue is similar to http://bit.ly/pRq0SM - but like I said, I'm on v6.
I'm unable to change this back to Google (or ''from'' anything other than Yahoo), even after disabling all add-ons, checking settings in about:config, and completely removing Yahoo from my search-engine options.
For anyone interested in replying, '''''please note''''' that I'm talking about the ''Awesome Bar'' - ''not'' the Search Bar. The Awesome Bar isn't so awesome if I still have to rely on the Search Bar.
Thanks! :-)

Oh, thanks! You've made my day.
IMHO the better solution would be to add some configuration option for the address bar search engine in browser configuration wizard. This new "feature" makes search bar useless, as for me.

  • Awesome Bar no longer searches all bookmarks after update to FF 34

    I just upgraded to FF34 and having a horrible time getting everything functioning right again. My current problem is that when I type a name in the Awesome Bar, it will not look at ALL my bookmarks. It does show some, but not all. For example if I type Dev, it properly shows my bookmark for Dev Guru. If I type fire, it shows nothing even though I have 4-5 bookmarks related to firefox. If I type the letter "s" I can see 5 related bookmarks but not the proper one. I have location bar in the settings set to History and Bookmarks. I have not found any solutions on the web and am at a loss as to what to try next. I have even deleted the bookmark and added it back. Does not seem to help.

    I ended up finding my own solution. For anyone who is interested here is what I had to do to fix this problem:
    Steps to solve the problem of the Awesomebar (Location Bar) not finding some bookmarks:
    Press Cntrl+Shift+B to show all bookmarks
    Click on Import and Backup
    Click on Backup
    Save the file
    Close Firefox
    Navigate to the Mozilla Profile Director (On a Windows 7 Box it is most likely in C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\YouFireFoxProfileName)
    Make a copy of the bookmarkbackups folder, places.sqlite, places.sqlite-shm, and places.sqlite-wal
    Delete all the files in the bookmarkbackups folder
    Delete places.sqlite, places.sqlite-shm, and places.sqlite-wal
    Open Firefox
    Press Cntrl+Shift+B to show all bookmarks
    Click on Import and Backup
    Click on Restore >> Choose File
    Select the file from earlier

  • "Awesome Bar" uses Bing search. How do I change it to Google search?

    Though the Help files says that the "Awesome Bar" uses Google search, it is actually using Bing. I want it to use Google. How can I change it. Please note that I am talking about the "Awesome Bar" a.k.a. Address bar - not the Search Bar. Thanks.

    Did you or do you have a "Community Toolbar" installed? Your address bar search runs through Conduit, which is the company behind most of those toolbars.
    To reset your search to Google, the simplest method is an add-on, but you also can do it manually.

  • Can no longer enter data in the address bar {url Bar}, it correctly follows data from google search bar. It was a 1 month old installation so not a lot of complications

    I was not adding anything to Firefox. I Refused tool bars embedded in several application installs on this new computer. Was working fine. Then had a problem with Google search, restored default values and re-tooled Firefox. At this point all worked fine. Then my url, address bar changed color to the same color as the program shell, a grey brown as opposed to the white it was before. With the change in color it no longer allows me to change the data showing in the bar. I can not delete or add data. I used to add a url and navigate to the domain. Now I can not

    Greetings,
    TY for the reply, the information was enlightening to be sure. I never knew safe mode was an option with Firefox. I have so many tasks running that I didn't want to shut things down. What I did is turn off some of the last plug-ins I installed. That did not fix the problem at least in the first look. What happened next was very interesting none the less. I had a moment of mouse spastic wrist syndrome and accidentally moved a tab in such a way that it opened in a new window. The URL bar was white and editable. So I moved all my tabs to the new window and everything works as it should. I have restarted Firefox this morning and it came back with the bar editable and I am speechless to understand what I may have done to correct the problem if anything ??

  • Address bar drop down randomly changes from large block to compressed ones. How do I change it back?

    I woke up the other morning and the drop down for my address bar, which had previously had a generous block for each address in memory, had changed. All of the block for remembered addresses had been compressed to half the size they originally were. I tried changing settings, and when that didn't fix it, I switched themes.
    It was fixed for a time, but did it again earlier today. I haven't altered any settings, so I don't know why it's doing this. I'd like to get it back to normal, because the compressed block are annoying, and harder to read.

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    *Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    Hi rodtheprod,
    I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the issue you are describing. If a movie from the iTunes Store supports multiple languages, they can usually be changed as outlined in the following article:
    iTunes: Language settings for video
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5562
    If this is not possible and no changes have been made to the country settings for the iTunes Store, you may want to try redownloading the movie (if it is still available):

  • How do I change my default search engine in the URL bar back to Google after my ISP replaced my default search engine with their own?

    Before I changed internet service providers, I could type my search queries into the url bar and receive search results from Google. After I switched ISPs, my queries typed into the url bar are put into my new ISP's horrible search engine. How do I change it back?
    I've already tried going to about:config and changing the value of the keyword.URL preference to "http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=" but that didn't fix my problem.
    New information since creation of the post:
    My ISP is Optimum. I have opted out of DNS Assistance and still have seen no change.
    When my search term is two words or more, I am directed to Google search results. If my search term is only one word, however, I am still directed to Optimum's search results.

    Hello samshine, try to reset the '''browser.search.defaultenginename''' in about:config and check it again.
    thank you

  • Awesome Bar search not working properly

    When I try to search from the Awesome Bar, instead of searching with Ixquick (which I set in about:config), it searches the currently active engine in the Search Bar. I have Firefox Portable 23.0 (by PortableApps.com) and run it on Windows 8.

    That is a new feature in Firefox 23.

  • Clicking a search result from search bar goole seaech, always opening google home page but only can open search in new tab by middle click,really frustrating.

    Whenever i am clicking search result from Google search bar, it always opens the Google home page. I can only open search result in new tab by double clicking. It started when i installed Firefox 12.

    @mstm, please ensure that you write some thing in search bar before you click search icon. without entering anything will redirect to google.com. And make sure that you are clicking on search icon not home icon.

  • Creating new instances of MDBs at runtime

    I am creating an application with a single input point (messages on a JMS Queue). The application needs to be multi-threaded, but would like to process the messages sequentially based on the message type.
    For example, a message of type A and a message type B can be processed simultaneously, but only 1 message of type A can be processed at a time. So if the application is processing a message of type A, and it receives another type A message, it must complete the first message before processing the second message.
    What I would like to do is have a single MDB (called the dispatcher MDB) that listens on the input point (JMS Queue). The dispatcher MDB calls onMessage() which will look at the message type and the forward to another JMS Queue based on the type. For example, if message type is A, send to Queue A, else if message type B, send to Queue B and so on. Each queue would have a MDB instance servicing the messages. In order to process the messages sequentially on each queue, the pool size for each MDB would be 1.
    My problem is that I don't know how many message types there are, this is decided at runtime.
    How can I create the Queues and register MDB at runtime?
    After some research, I have found the ability to create the Queues using JMX. But, I cannot seem to find details on how to create a register an MDB and tell it to listen on a particular Queue. Has anyone had any experience doing such a thing?

    OK, i have some code similar to below, where I want to
    create a new instance of the class BookRecord which
    takes parameters from Book b, which is an instance if
    the class Book.
    //This is code from the Libraray class
    public void addBookRecord(Book  b, String author,
    String title)
    bookHolder  = new BookRecord(b, author, title);
    }Now this creates a new BookRecord object that has an
    author and title which refer to the Book b. Now when i
    invoke the method again, choosing the same object for
    b as i did last time it creates a second BookRecord
    object, when I just want it to overwrite the values of
    the previous BookRecord object. how can i do this
    simply?
    Thanks in advanceWell I am not quite sure if I understood.
    But refering to what you wrote I would say:
    //This is code from the Libraray class
    public void addBookRecord(Book  b, String author, String title)
            if(bookHolder.getBook() != b)
               // Not the same book object
               bookHolder  = new BookRecord(b, author, title);
             else
                // same book object
                bookHolder.setAuthor(author);
                book.setTitle(tile);
    As I said may be totally not what you are looking for.

  • Best practice for creating a bulk of new instances

    Hi,
    My customer has a requirement to create a bulk of 30,000 new instances by scanning a database table (an export from a billing system) which contains a list of a call center tasks (interactive) to be performed. They will be executed throughout the month.
    What is the best way to do it? If the answer is "this is a worst practice" that's a good answer too, but the question is how do I provide a solution to their needs.
    When the process was executed as is we ran into the maximum limit of 1,000. Configuring the automatic item queue removed the 1,000 limit exception but caused JTA timeout and other exceptions against the engine database.
    It seems to me that some sort of division into bulks of a few hundred instances should be the way to do it instead of just exploding the engine with so many instances. Am I right? If so, how would be the best way to code it? If not, any other suggestions?
    Any recommendations would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    ~ronen

    Hi,
    Know how you feel.
    Others are sure to have other ideas, but here are a thoughts:
    1) You might also want to consider only creating 995 in a single transactional boundary at a time. Once 995 have been created, end the transaction so it will commit. You could then fire another transaction that creates another 995. Keep doing this in separate transactions until all have been created. Sure you know many ways you could keep track of where each group of 995 ended and where your next group of 995 should begin, but a common technique is to keep track of the last row processed in a separate database.
    2) Sure you've thought of this, but consider running this from a Global Automatic that is scheduled to run at a time when everyone's gone home. The last thing you want is to get complaints from the end users about performance. Their interaction will be degraded and your creations will take longer.
    3) If you can, be especially conservative about your instance size when creating instances in a batch. Avoid adding attachments and binary variables as they are being created (both of these can potentially be huge). Get rid of the incoming argument variables that you do not need right away in the process. Many times you can look up the additional information downstream when needed later in the process.
    4) Note what is happening immediately downstream of your Begin activity in the process. If for example, you have more than one automatic activity that immediately follow the Begin, consider either turning all the automatic activities it a procedure (one transaction) or set your process to "Greedy" execution. If you have a Multiple activity immediately after the Begin, you might be creating 10x the number of instances (e.g. your Multiple's logic creates 10 copies). If the is the case, you might want to throttle back the number of instances created in one transaction even further.
    Hope this helps,
    Dan

  • How do I change default search engine in address bar?

    I know in previous incarnations of Foxfire I could use about:config and change Keyworld.url to change my default search engine. I recently reset my Foxfire because I've been having issues with the Origin website and.. now it's defaulted back to Google. I do not want to use google. How do I change this? I do not want a search bar, I do not wanna change things in a search bar. I just want the address bar to work the way I've always had it work for me before. Can ANYBODY help me?

    That does not help me at all. I do not want the Search Bar. I don't wanna change the default on the search bar. Why would ANYONE want a search bar when the address bar does the searching for you?
    I want to change the default on the ADDRESS bar. The main bar and only bar I have. The one that if you type in anything, it automatically searches Google and there seems to be no way to change it. You could change it before by going to about:config and changing Keyword.url, but Foxfire removed that. Now.. I want to take the Address bar off it's default of Google and switch it to something else.
    Once again, I want NOTHING to do with the Search Bar. I don't want it, don't want to change what it searches, nothing. I never use it and never have. I want to change the ADDRESS bar's default search.
