FFT Filter, Dynamic EQ, Scientific Filters...

Hello
I don't know what types of applications these are good for?  I'm scared, help me overcome my fear of the unknown.
I always go back to the graphic eq, parametric eq, and notch filter because it seems to get the job done for me, but I would like to utilize the FFT Filter (what does that stand for by the way?) as well as the others listed, I just have no idea when it would be a good time to use them or just experiment with them.
So, I would like to hear from Audition users who utilize these processes effectively in their work: what do you usually use them to accomplish?...and in what type of situations do you find yourself using them in most often?
Thanks,
Kris

Huge topic - can't really cover all that in one post at all.
FFT stands for Fast Fourier Transform - and from there on the explanation gets technical and complicated, and whilst it won't help you with real-world processing, you do need to understand that long window sizes work better on LF than short ones do. And just to make it confusing, a long window size means a smaller number, and a short one is a large number.
In Audition, some of the filters are finite impulse response types (Graphic equalizer and FFT ) and others are infinite impulse types (Parametric equalizer,  Scientific filters and the notch filter) - these are the two basic models for constructing digital filters. If you want to know more about these, then unfortunately it gets technical - again! Basically, the infinte type uses a recursive feedback model (and can have steeper filter sides as a result), and the finite one doesn't. Most people think that they sound 'different' as well, but that depends rather on program content - you have to use your ears. The big problem with things like the Graphic EQ is that if you aren't careful there will be a lot of phase shift at the transition points between one band and the next one, and this can have a pretty adverse effect on the sound in general. I never use it for anything, because there's never anything that I want to accomplish that I can't do with Parametric EQ, but YMMV. The notch filter is primarily only intended for removing hums, and this needs careful use too, because it's very easy to introduce ringing in the filter skirts.

  • How do I make a FFT filter fade over time?

    I am trying to apply a FFT filter (underwater shallow) to an audio track, but I want it to gradually fade until we here the original non-filtered audio at the end. I've created a multitrack session, but Show Envelopes does not unclude the FFT filter. Surely there is a way to accomplish this? Please help!

    If you add the FFT filter to the Effects Rack for your audio track you can then select Rack Mix in the Automation track and use it to fade between the "wet" treated version and the "dry" untreated version.

  • FFT Filter Preset Importation / Creation

    After using Audition to copy the eq's of two different songs, I computed the difference between them in Excel to make a compensation eq curve. I would like to use the data I collected to generate an FFT Filter preset. I have looked into editing Audition's settings xml file but don't understand how the FFT presets are formatted. The alternative, of course, is to input the eq data into the Audition FFT Filter plugin by hand but this can be a very lengthy process depending on the FFT Size (in my case, 512, which generates 230 eq curve points; right now I'm on around number 50). Is it possible to create an FFT Filter preset by modifying Audition's xml settings, and if so, how are the presets formatted? Thanks

    >Is it possible to create an FFT Filter preset by modifying Audition's xml settings?
    Technical answer:
    I'm not convinced that it is. Currently the most reliable way of modifying (or swapping) presets is to create the one you want, and store it as part of a script. The good thing about this is that once you've figured out how the numbering works, you can edit the script at will. So if you enter all of your points, you can look at how this is stored in the script, and modifying it becomes quite simple. In fact, I suspect that you could probably configure Excel to do most of the work for you without too much trouble at all.
    Audible results answer:
    I wouldn't ever bother to do what you are doing though - no two songs are the same, and there's no reason on earth why the EQ for one would be anything like correct, or appropriate at all for another.

  • Dimension Filter - Dynamic popup size?

    Hi,
    I have a small problem.
    One of my dimension filters have a hierarchy dimension assigned. Depending on the expansion of the preferred hierarchy selection, the user cannot see the whole text.
    I know that I can change the size of the Dimension Filter with the settings Popup Width and Popup Height, but is it somehow possible to change the size dynamically depending on the expansion of the hierarchy?
    Br
    Max Rosén

    Hi Max,
    As far as I know there is really no such setting in Design Studio that would enable that.
    There is also no way how to achieve this with the available scripting methods, if there would be something it would be in theory something like this:
    In the OnChange Event of the table cell width where the hierarchy is or based upon the expand level state of the hierarchy in the filterpanel, adjust the width of the filterpanel and the width of the table cell where the hierarchy is.
    There should be a solution to do this via javascript, but for that you would need to use the sdk to include some custom javascript code into your bi app.
    Normally your requirement can be achieved with/through css, there is a method/way that causes the width of the parent container to expand/adjust automatically when the width of the child element changes. But the problem/difficulty here is, that the filterpanel is created with a lot of absolutely positioned divs (containers) here and there and thus several stacking contexts are created and thus a change in one stacking context has no effect on an element which is in a different stacking context - a change in the width of the table cells where the hierarchy is placed has no effect on some other higher/previously positioned parent container elements because they are in different stacking contexts and when a container's width isn't adjusted too, the inner child element has no way to expand and still be/remain visually nice as a whole.
    Anyway, so far I didn't help you much, so here is something you could use to make the text visible/readable without expanding the width:
    /* Make Long Text (in Hierarchy) in Dimension Filter Visible (Break Into a New Line) */
    #sap-ui-static .sapzenfilterpanel-PopupContainerDialog div.sapUiTableCnt div.sapUiTableCCnt table.sapUiTableCtrl tr.sapUiTableTr > td:nth-child(1),
    #sap-ui-static .sapzenfilterpanel-PopupContainerDialog div.sapUiTableCnt div.sapUiTableCCnt table.sapUiTableCtrl tr.sapUiTableTr > td:nth-child(1) span.sapzenfilterpanel-SelectionTableText {
      white-space: normal;
      /* Optional setting: break to newline anywhere in a word */
      /*word-wrap: break-word;*/
    (Note: you can simplify/adjust the selectors, this is not the only way how the selectors must look like, it is just an example, but working example...)
    A side note when using the setting: "Member Display: Text and Key"
    The Dimension filter has 3 columns: 1. Text , 2. Key , 3. Check(boxes)
    where the first 2 columns for text and key are the same width. But usually the key is shorter than the text and doesn't need so much space, so you could adjust the width proportions of these first 2 columns so that the text has more width than the column containing the keys:
    /* Make Text Column Wider and Key Column Narrower */
    div.sapUiTableCnt div.sapUiTableColHdrCnt div.sapUiTableColHdr > div:nth-child(1) {width: 207px !important; /* Default Popup width: 350px > 147px , 147+60=207 */}
    div.sapUiTableCnt div.sapUiTableColHdrCnt div.sapUiTableColHdr > div:nth-child(2) {width: 87px !important; /* Default Popup width: 350px > 147px , 147-60=87 */}
    div.sapUiTableCnt div.sapUiTableCCnt table.sapUiTableCtrl tr.sapUiTableCtrlCol > th:nth-child(1) {width: 207px !important; /* Default Popup width: 350px > 147px , 147+60=207 */}
    div.sapUiTableCnt div.sapUiTableCCnt table.sapUiTableCtrl tr.sapUiTableCtrlCol > th:nth-child(2) {width: 87px !important; /* Default Popup width: 350px > 147px , 147-60=87 */}

  • Dynamic Dashboard with Filters (Cascading )

    I have a static dashboard with 3 filters (Cascading) -. Country , State and City .  "All" functionality( for all filters) works fine in static mode. I am using Filter summary add on component for Cascading technique.
    1) Right now , I am planning to make this dashboard as Dynamic and I am confused, whether I need to use QAAWS or Live office to achieve this. Or can we use a combination of these too ?.
    2) Do we need to get the "All" value from Universe, If we are using Live Office  ?  or Can we  hard code the  "All"  value in Excel itself?
    I am bringing very detail level data in to this dash board. Can i get some samples ?

    Hi Ajish,
    To answer your questions
    1) You can use either QAAWS or Live Office to achieve the initial load of your cascading selectors.
    Note that if you use Live Office, you can schedule the initial load of your selector items so that it doesn't have to query the database.
    However if all your other connections are created using QaaWS, you may want to have it load using QaaWS for consistency. Since the query to grab the cascading list of items should be quite quick anyways.
    2) Getting "ALL" from the universe or hardcoding it in Excel are both achievable.  In my opinion it's easier to do it in Excel because you don't have to modify or do anything to the query that retrieves the cascading selector values.
    If you need help on "how" to do it in Excel, just let me know.
    Just a tip: The simplest way to filter the query afterwards with "ALL" is to create a filter object in the Universe like this
    Note that this is just pseudocode
    (prompt("Country")="ALL") or (prompt("Country")=databaseTable.Country)
    If you are using Live Office, you can do this in WEBI as well.
    Cheers

  • Dynamic dependency for filters

    Hi,
    I need to implement dynamic dependency for the filters inside webi report.
    I can use "cascading prompts". But this will will be like (filter 2 dependent on filter 1, filter 3 dependent on filter 2).
    But in my case I need all the filters to be interdependent to each other. This means at any time if I select any filter, other filters should show only those values available for selection (NOT ALL VALUES).
    Could you please suggest me the best approach to achieve this requirement?
    Regards,
    Saranga T A

    Thanks for the response guys. (Sorry for my delayed reply)
    I inquired some of my friends who are using different Reporting tools (BrioIntelligence, MicroStrategy).
    Those tools support dynamic dependency for block level filters.
    To be more clear, my question is:
    Consider there is a table:
    Branch     Segment     Employee
    A                    01               100
    B                    02               101
    B                    03               102
    C                    04               103
    D                    04               104
    D                    05               105
    Here, if we have filters or Branch, Sement and Employee,
    User should be able to see only those value in the filter which satisfies other filter values in a row.
    For example: If Branch "B" is chosen, only Segement "02","03" should be available for selection.
    In thesame way, If Segment "04" is chosen, only Branch "C","D" should be available for selection.
    (Beacuse any other combination would retrieve no rows).
    In ourcase we have 4-5 filters which are not in the hierarchy. Even if they do, the depedency is linear and will not be interdepedent.
    i believe it is the inbuit feature of many of the other Reporting Tools, but is there a turn around to achieve this in BO 3.1?
    Kind Regards,

  • FFT Filter

    Hey guys,
    I want  to  FFT my signal and split the FFT into two parts from  a certain frequency.
    I implemented it using two filters and  two FFT. but i want toreduce it to a singale FFT and splitting it.
    Please find my solution.

    I do not completely understand what you are asking. Do you want to take the FFT of a signal before the filter, then extract certain portions of the transform output?
    Your image shows two waveform wires entering two filters. Do those both contain the same signal or two different signals?
    What will you do with the FFT outputs?
    Give us an idea of the big picture - what is the  source of the signal(s) and what will you be doing with the filtered results?

  • Dynamic Spry DataSet Filters

    Hi all, I'm trying to create multiple non-destructive filters
    on a Spry XML
    Dataset,
    however it seems that when passing a filterfunction that's
    part of an
    object,
    the function (SpryFilter.filter) can't reference the object's
    properties,
    this is remedied by calling the object's filter function from
    an anonymous
    method, but how do I remove the anonymous method from the
    flters?
    function SpryFilter(filterName, filterValue)
    this.filterName = filterName;
    this.filterValue = filterValue;
    SpryFilter.prototype.filter = function(dataSet, row,
    rowNumber)
    if ((this.filterName)?
    row.category.indexOf(this.filterName+":
    "+this.filterValue) !=
    -1|row.category.indexOf(this.filterName+": ")==-1 :
    true)
    return row; // Return the row to keep it in the data set.
    return null; // Return null to remove the row from the data
    set.
    function SpryFilterManager()
    this.filters = new Array();
    var fmgr=new SpryFilterManager();
    SpryFilterManager.prototype.addFilter = function(dataSet,
    filterName,
    filterValue, apply)
    this.filters[filterName]=new SpryFilter(filterName,
    filterValue);
    // define anonymous function that calls the filter object's
    function
    var f = function(dataSet, row, rowNumber){return
    fmgr.filters[filterName].filter(dataSet, row, rowNumber);};
    // pass anonymous function to dataset
    dataSet.addFilter(f, apply);
    SpryFilterManager.prototype.removeFilter = function(dataSet,
    filterName,
    apply)
    if(this.filters[filterName])
    //define same anonymous function as above
    var f = function(dataSet, row, rowNumber){return
    fmgr.filters[filterName].filter(dataSet, row, rowNumber);};
    // FIXME: this does not remove the other
    anonymous function
    dataSet.removeFilter(f, apply);

    Nevermind I found a solution.
    By storing a reference to the executive function in the
    filter object, that
    reference can be passed to SpryDataSet.removeFilter()

  • OData $filter option with two filters in HTML5

    Hello,
    I tried to implement two filters:
    oTable.filter(oTable.getColumns()[4],oAuto.getLiveValue()) ;
    oTable.filter(oTable.getColumns()[6],oAuto2.getLiveValue()) ;
    But I does not work. I get in console the message: The following problem occurred: Request aborted -sap-ui-core.js:77
    Combinedfilter (two filters as an array) didn't work.
    Do you have any idea?
    Best Regards
    Vladislav

    Hello Vladislav,
    You can try out with something similar to the following code:
    var filters = [];
    var filterName = new sap.ui.model.Filter("name", sap.ui.model.FilterOperator.Contains, query);
    var list = this.getView().byId("users");
    var binding = list.getBinding("items");
    filters.push(filterName);
    binding.filter(filters);

  • Set Junk Email Filter to "No Automatic Filtering" using regedit

    I found
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2813164/en-us#survey which says to change HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Mail
    to DWORD: JunkMailProtection to value 0xfffffff.
    When I went to that location, there was NO existing DWORD JunkMailProtection already in place.  I created one.  It did not change my filter from Low to No Automatic Filtering.
    I ran a registry compare before and after changing manually.  No change indicated in the registry, and incidentally in the setting of 0xfffffff, when I changed it manually to any other value.
    Does someone know the true whereabouts of the registry that controls the Email Filtering options?  I do NOT have the junk email filtering disabled via a UI policy.

    Hi,
    I added the Key and DWORD in the path:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Options\Mail
    But it didn't work, then I added the Key and DWORD to this path:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\office\14.0\outlook\Options\Mail
    It worked like a charm.
    I hope this helps.

  • Differnce bn Static filter &Dynamic filter

    Can any one pls explain the difference in static and dynamic filter in Bex.

    Selva,
    Static filter means hard coding with some values to filter. This will always filter as per the values restricted.
    But a dynamic filter will fiter values based on certain conditions(business requirement).
    In report you can restrict values to filter. Again you can use customer exit to filter the values dynamically.

  • Is it possible to use a vector filter mask for smart filters?

    Hello
    I have a very specific question. With smart objects, you can use smart filters and you can use a smart filter mask to define the filter effect area. Now, the filter mask is like a regular layer mask, in that its effectively a raster image. I'm wondering if it's possible to use a vector filter mask as well? I haven't yet found an option to do so. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    I'm using Photoshop CS5.
    Thank you
    R. Kroll

    I'm wondering if it's possible to use a vector filter mask as well?
    Not to the best of my knowledge.
    A possible workaround (depending on the SO) might be to duplicate it, apply the Filter and apply the Vector Mask to the SO itself.
