Fibre optic. worse decision I have ever made

I have been on fibre optic now since may. Worse decision ever. Constant connection dropping and also speed slows down regular. Phoned BTa few times. They do a speed test and say all is fine. Well yes it is fine sometimes. Also remote help from bt. He changed channel for wireless and said give it 24 hours and all should be OK. I am running my PCs via ethernet. When will they finally realise that the hubs are prob no good? After searching I was shocked at the amount of ppl with same problem. . phoning bt is useless. They Just assume all is ok as passes speed test. No time for calling them again. I am going to contact ofcom regarding poor service and cancel my contract with no payment owing!

  • Cambridge Fibre Optic broadband

    Hi all,
I moved to a new development in Cambridge in early 2012 and because the property's new and in the city centre I expected there to be fibre optic supplied by either BT or Virgin Media. Virgin Media told me that the infrascruture's not in place because the developers hadn't informed them so there's no potential for their fibre optic service at this property, ever.
BT have told me that there is no date set to activate fibre optic at this address, however, they have told me the following:
    - The green box in the street opposite our building is ready for fibre optic
    - Our exchange is ready for fibre optic and 'accepting new orders'
Currently, I'm getting 3.5MB on my line through Sky and my contract ends in a month and I'd really like to switch to a fibre optic package. There's a number of other properties connected to the same box in the street, with more currently being built (around 1,000 flats in total), so it baffles me why in a city centre we can only get slow broadband!!
My postcode is CB2 8DT. Any one have any other way of finding more information?
    Cheers

I assume that you are on the Cherry Hinton exchange, if so then that exchange is enabled for fibre orders. You need to enter your telephone number in the following link and see what the results are: https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html

  • Openreach have laid fibre-optic cable in front of ...

Fibre optic cable has just been laid in front of my property to take high speed broadband to the adjacent business park, so when will I be able to access Infinity broadband myself? Postcode is GU35 9JA. I have looked online but no future
connection has been flagged up. Why?

    Hi @philaman
Your cabinet 21 on the BORDON exchange is located here: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.118744,-0.876742,3a,89.7y,204.72h,81.6t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sMcbCrL...
However it looks like your area is in Wave 2 of the Hampshire Superfast Broadband Programme which is estimated to run from 2016-2018
    From http://www.hampshiresuperfastbroadband.com/
"Wave 2. This postcode is included in Wave 2 which will extend superfast broadband coverage to 96% of properties across Hampshire.
Once Wave 1 and Wave 2 have been completed an additional 97,000 premises will have access to superfast broadband, in total more than 570,000 homes and businesses across Hampshire will have access to superfast broadband.
There is a lot of detailed planning to undertake and we expect to publish more news regarding timescales for the rollout of Wave 2 from September 2015.
The programme is committed to seeking additional support to extend coverage even further and address the hardest to reach premises in the remaining 4%. We will publish details regarding these plans as soon as they become available.
Please note: This does not guarantee that every premise in the postcode will be able to access superfast broadband. In some cases, a few properties might be too far away from the new equipment to benefit. - See more at: http://www.hampshiresuperfastbroadband.com/#sthash.KeieUZz0.dpuf

  • Do NI have a PXIe Fibre Optic Power Meter to measure loss (attenuation) and output power from a Fibre Optic cable

Hi, I want to be able to measure the loss in a Fibre Optic cable at a wavelength of 650nm, is there any PXIe cards that can perform this function
    Thanks

    Hi Paul_byrne,
There is no specific NI PXIe card which measures the power output of optical fibres. However the task can be accomplished using an Optical Sensor and a DAQ Board. Here is a white paper which provides an example of the hardware components and setup:
Lowering the Cost of Optical Power Measurements

     hope this helps,

  • Do i now have access to fibre optic?

can i just confirm that my house can access fibre optic because it is saying i can on the bt broadband availability checker.

You deleted the checker result but you need to take care as that is the 'A' value but it could as easily be the impacted 'B' value 80/69.7.  Or somewhere inbetween

  • Vodafone Sure Signal and SKY Fibre Optic Broadband

Please help, I have had no Mobile Phone signal for over 6 weeks on four mobile phones at home (which we pay over £150 a month for!) including my two teenage daughters phones who are beside themselves!!My Vodafone sure signal box was working fine (for past two years or more)but stopped working when we switched to SKY Fibre optic broadband from regular SKY broadband I have spoken to Vodafone and SKY for many many hours but still no signal. I'm tempted to ditch both SKY and Vodafone and start fresh with BT!!, this would be such a shame as been with both companies for over 15 years now I have no idea what I need to do to fix this, we have tried Port Forwarding but still no signal. Please help, I am in a mobile blackspot and its driving me cand the family mad.

Although not specifically about Sky Fibre, this (although a bit technical) is an interesting read (in particular the post at 21-Oct-14 10:41:23 advising to de-register the SS via the VF website, wait 30 mins then re-register the SS using a different postcode and if no luck contact VF and ask them to reset the SS from their end). For what it's worth, the Three Home Signal Box works fine over Sky Fibre without any port forwarding or any nonsense - just plug and go - worth knowing if you should decide to switch mobile providers!

Hi I followed tha link to GLASHOST and when you try to test it comes back that there has been a error ?
Is there another website I could try?
Also how do I contact the MODS, regardless to the website not allowing me to test, at certain times (evening) there is definately throttling occuring or some setting on my line is causing this issue ,Iam sorry but tried to phone the TECH team but apart from power down modem or router there has been no effort made to try and resolve the problem.
I need some one at BT with expert experiance and Know how to look into this thoroughly.
I phoned customer options team yesterday and requested my MAC as I have less thn 1 month contract remaining, however  I  do not want to leave BT its a repitable company that has been trading for many years and its time that they showed that to me. do they care if I LEAVE?

  • Fibre Optic availability

    Heya all,
I live in Boardwalk Place (Poplar exchange) and 4 out of 5 buildings in the block had fibre optic for like a year already, while my building (1 out of 5) still has no fiber optic. It doesnt make sense as all buildings are surrounded by water andthere is no chance on other cabinet or else.
The question is who and how i can contact to try and start an investigation into the issue?
    Thanks in advance
    Dmitry

Poplar does seem to have a bit of a mad setup with cabling routes but if you want us to double check whether your line is EO or not feel free to fill out our contact form (the link to which you can find in my profile under "about me").
These two links might also be useful - I'll add them into my sticky at the top of the Infinity forum later on for a permanent reference:
http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/resident/ (you can fill this out yourself)
http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/landlord/ (you need to give this to the owner of your property/building)

  • Why call it "fibre-optic broadband"?

I've always wondered why BT would choose such a misleading term for Infinity.
Why on earth would they call it fibre-optic broadband? This implies that fibre comes to the customer's house, which is of course not true. The misleading effect becomes worse when they refer to the "fibre-optic router" (the Home Hub) - good luck trying to convince the BT engineer who comes to install the service that it is not a "fibre-optic router" but a bog standard Ethernet router. And of course same goes for the Openreach modem - it's a VDSL2 modem, nothing to do with fibre-optics.
Sure, fibres go up to the street cabinet, and they are welcome to mention it. But the way they market it just makes it misleading for the laypeople and for their own engineers too.
Further down the line, how are they going to market FTTH when it arrives? Fibre-optic broadband again? But we already have that
    Very weird indeed.
They could just market it for what it is, a VDSL2 service.

It's the ASA's fault for not stopping Virgin calling their horrible network fibre a few years ago.
Actual fibre will probably be called FIBRE POWERED BY LASER BEAMS
    Ahh that's a good point.
    The ASA is useless.
So if Virgin started with the misleading language, everybody can follow suit and it's fair game!

  • My EF-s 18-200 IS lens died. Frankly it was the worst lens Canon ever made, horrible vignetting.

I want to get a different lens instead for my Rebel xti, or maybe two. I'm an amateur but want good quality photos, mostly landscapes but also close-ups, so I like a versatile lens. I was thinking of going to the L series but considering the cost, is that overkill for both the intended purpose and the adequate-but-not-extraordinay Rebel body? Would appreciate any guidance.

    Hi, Jim0
You have seen the optical compromises needed to make a "does everything" lens, and you didn't like it. Rather than grab another one try getting two more specialized ones.
You want to do landscapes, so you want something wide. Wide on a crop needs to be wider than wide on full frame.
A Canon or Sigma 10-20 or 10-22 would be good for the wide landscapes.
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/Cameras/N/0/Ntt/CA102235EF
For just a bit more you could have the incredibly wide aperture (for a zoom) new Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens. No one has ever made a zoom with anything even close to an aperture this bright. .
    http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Sigma-18-35mm-f-1.8-DC-HSM-Lens.aspx
For the long end, I'd consider going with a 70-200 L lens. They are all good, and they range in price from just $700 for the very sharp f/4 non-IS version to $2300 for the f/2.8 and IS version.
    http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-70-200mm-f-4.0-L-USM-Lens-Review.aspx
The old advice of buying new glass instead of new bodies is good advice.
    Good luck!

So tonight I updated my 4s over 3g to ios 7.1 it took forever and said connect to itunes. It said it was in recovery mode & needed to be restored but would wipe all content. I have never made a backup because my computers hard drive crashed (luckily the pics were on the phone) and now after updating like apple said I should it wants me to wipe my phone... I can't loose pics of my kids births and birthdays... I tried the holding buttons and letting off to exit recovery mode with no success... I don't know what to do but I swear if apple makes me loose the priceless pics of my kids I will never buy any apple device ever again... and I will make sure no family or friend ever does either... there has to be a way somehow.. some data recovery some program... I dunno if tinyumbrella can exit it for me without hacking or jailbreaking (which I don't dare/want to do) but i need a solution. I have researched this for hours and hours with no solution so far. If I have to pay $$ for it fine I will but after I recover my data that way I will be going to samsung... anyone with a solution would be greatly appreciated... any solution...

that makes no sense... it was only doing an update... if that's the case it should have promted me to back up first if this is even possible... there is a program that says it can recovery anything that hasn't been written over yet.. so would this not work? http://www.iphone-data-recovery.com/iphone-data-recovery.html   or would the apple store be able to recover it??? i've done plenty of data recovery on computers... why wouldn't it be possible on an Iphone... does apple seriously not care about thier customers at all??? how about thier employees that are gonna get more than an earful tomorrow when I walk in there store??? No wonder samsung paid 2 million to apple in pennies when they got sued... (how does it feel to be screwed with apple?!)

  • Library is full of EVERY pic I have ever used in the program. How do I make them go away?

Edge Animate no longer functions because my library is full of every picture i have ever used in the program.  Not just in one project file, but ALL the projects.  All the images carry over whenever i start a new animation.  It's so bogged down now that I can't even use the program at all.  I cannot add new content to an existing project.
    -Checked my system requirements
    -Tried to manage in Explorer
    -Looked through the forum questions
-Had help over the phone-appeared they fixed it, but it still is doing the same thing
-Went to chat and no one ever responded
I am at a loss to make this program work.
    Help

Here it shows just a portion of my Library.  I open a new project and my libarary seems to be one continuous entry that stays.  Some of those pics were added after I made this project from a totally different file a different file.  This is a very simple animation of only 8-10 PNG pics that loop.

  • The most awful pvr box I have ever had the misfort...

I got BT Vision a few months ago and have, right from the start, been frustrated by the terrible box. I've been using pvrs for many years, my favourite manufacture is Humax, fwiw.
    BT box good points:
The padding where it will pad programmes that start one after the other on the same channel - the box will pad either side of both programs.
BT box bad points: - here goes:
Terrible remote reception - point the remote at anything other than the box and it might work - point it directly at the box, and it wont.
Doesn't work well with aftermarket/replacment remotes - I have a Logitech Harmony One remote that has, up until now, worked with every single item I have programmed it to. Not with this box though.
Sluggish remote response - when fast-fowarding through adverts and pressing play to resume, a lottery ensues as to the replay point. It might be 12 seconds after the point when you press play, or 1 minute before you pressed play.
Bad reception? I constantly get messages about poor/low freeview signal via this box, however, the two other pvrs (both dual tuner) and dtv never have any problems with signal - they all report a signal strength and quality of 10/10.
Menu. Who designed the menu? Imagine a list of 10 things. On every other single item I have ever owned, if I'm at the top menu item and I want the bottom menu item, I simply press the 'up' button to scroll from the top directly to the bottom. It's not rocket science, surely? Not on this box. To get to the bottom you have to press 'down' several times - this is made all the more difficult due to the FACT that this box is terrible with remote reception. This is the worst thing about the menu system, but the rest is equally unintuitive. Getting into menu options is incredibly fustrating.
Constant hanging - I'm finding that this box needs more resets than most others I have owned - kind of interrupts your viewing, no?
Sound - the sound stage constantly distorts, calling for a rewind to reset the sound. The box is connected via S/PDIF to my DSPAX640SETII amp that works fine with all the other connected equipment.
Apart from that, it's great. Not.
    Comments?

Terrible remote reception - You may have a problem with your remote. OR, there is other AV eqpt interfering with the signal (like a light auto sensor on your TV).
Not one of my other 9 items has this problem
Doesn't work well with aftermarket/replacment remotes - No, it doesn't.
Sluggish remote response - when fast-fowarding through adverts and pressing play to resume, a lottery ensues - you're pressing the FF button too many times. It has 2xFF, 3xFF, 4xFF and then an uncontrollable super 4xFF.
No I am not. I'm fully versed on how multi speed works thankyou very much. Even 4xFF (in your parlance) causes the lottery effect.
Menu. To get to the bottom you have to press 'down' several times - No you don't. Simply press the volume button down to get to the next bottom screen. Or up to go back.
On every single other item I have ever owned, to scroll to the bottom of a selected menu is acchieved by pressing the 'up' key. Every single one.
    Let me demonstrate:
You press the menu button and the below appears, with 'play' highlighted:
    Play
    Settings
    Picture
    Audio
    Info
On every single product I have ever owned or used, to get to 'Info' from 'Play' is done by simply pressing the up key once. On the BT Vision box, you'd have to press 'down' 4 (or in reality, 7or 8) times to get to 'Info' from 'Play'.
Constant hanging - You may have a problem or fault with your box/internet connection.
I have no problem with my internet connection.
Sound - I cannot comment on this. The Vision box only uses Dolby 5.1 surround Sound for On Demand films only. So I do not have my box connected to any external AV eqpt.
    Well - it does.
Hope you get all the above resolved.
    Me too
    Rank - Mostly Harmless.
