Fibre speed drop this weekend 4th & 5th July 2015.

My monthly average according to SamKnows is 27.33 Mbps. At 23.00 Friday 3rd July it was 28.01 Mbps.But by 0500 Saturday 4th July it was 12.12 Mbps.By 1900 on the 4th it was 9.81 Mbps.But at 0900 Monday 6th it is back at 29.54 Mbps.Why when I do get speed drops it seems to always be at weekends?

It could be a number of reasons from exchange congestion which would be more noticable at the weekends when more people are using the service during the day/evening or it could be planned/unplanned maintenance at the exchange or even excess wireless interference(if your only using wireless connections).
If its constantly slow every weekend then it points more towards congestion/interference than maintenance Sky can help with congestion so reporting it to them directly would be your only option,if its wireless interference then there is nothing Sky can do to help.

  • BT Infinity evening and weekend speed drops

    Hi,
    I have a BT Business Hub 5 and Infinity package.
    My connection during the working week in the day is usually around: 
    27.95MB/s down, 4.63Mb/s up and a ping of around 20ms.
    Often in the evenings and on weekends the speed drops to around:
    1.5MB/s down, 4.5Mb/s up and a ping of anywhere between 20ms and 60ms
    I called up BT Business suport and raised a ticket to only have an email the next day stating your issue has been resolved, however it has not been resolved. Obviously they done a test in week day during the day when it is usually fine and not in the evening or on the weekend.
    Basically my old 8Mb package from BT was often faster in the evenings and on weekends, with a typical connection of:
    3.5 to 5Mbps down and a 0.35Mbs up, ping times were between 20ms and 120ms)
    This translates to if I was on my old 8Mb package from BT I could download at around 720Kbs max during the evenings and weekends instead of 160Kbs.
    Anyone actually got BT to solve this? I've read a lot of posts so far where people are just writing letters of complaint and contacting the ombidsman.
    Is there is a resolution to this?

  • 3/4 G Speed in Louisa Va. Area this weekend not good

    This weekend my 4G USB modem speed for surving and general internet was very irratic and inconsistent.  A neighbor of mine with the same type Verizon service experienced the same thing.  Anybody know what caused this?  Thanks.

    The issue is very sporadic and has come and gone 4 times in the last 10
    minutes.  I am in the Byrd Mill Area of 23093 and my device is a USB 5551L
    Norvatel modem.  This is extrememly inconvenient and irritating.  My
    neighbors who have similar verizon internet access are experiencing the

  • Broadband Speed dropped and wont come back

    Hi, I need help and advice please.
    Background info first though, so please bare with me.
    During last July 2011 I was fed up of very low speeds and managed to get a BT engineer out to check the wiring etc... He did a great job by finding a badly insulated cable between myself and the Cabinet in our village. He also changed our master socket to a newer version.
    Over the next few days my broadband speed went from 0.74mb download to 1.95mb download. Fantastic!
    This speed has pretty much been a consistent rarely dropping below 1.7mb and at times has even gone up to my highest recorded of 2.46mb. I thought this was brilliant, I could watch iPlayer no problems and xbox live was even bearable (most of the time).
    The big problem where I live is sometimes we have power cuts. Sometimes lasting hours but mainly just for seconds. Even so it switches the BB router off. (I know, but not my fault)
    When we had the freak snow fall the other month problems started to raise their head. The computers in the household found issues connecting to the router and to resolve this BT BB Helpdesk kept advising me to reset router to enable connection. After connecting new ADSL filters the speed returned but connection issues continued.
    BT supplied me with a brand new home hub 3 which I connected thinking it would give me my 2.4mb speeds again. Oh No. To be fare I think I was getting 1.95mb but I wanted more, as most people would. Why cant I get 2.4mb most of the time I have had for a few months.
    Anyway I contacted BT who were kind enough to send a BT engineer out. He Said to me the Broadband speed is put out at the exchange (4.5km) at 8mb and comes into our village at between 3mb and 4mb. He detected no fault on the lines and spent the next 3 hours renewing 'D' and 'E' I think side of cabling (found this out later). He mentioned the noise was high but did something to lower it. On leaving he said I had 2.5mb and was confidant it would rise to 3mb.
    Great not drastic but should give me 250kbs to 50kbs extra.
    The day he was at my house we had 2 short power cuts followed by another couple some days later. This has not helped I'm sure.
    NOW TO THE ISSUE.
    My download speed since that day has not gone above 1.46mb download and every time I speak to the call centre they tell me my line is only capable of 2mb therefore 1.46mb is within acceptable range.
    I am so tired of explaining that I was capable of receiving 2.4mb some 2 months ago yet now since the new hub 3 and line fiddling I am only capable of a 2mb downstream - 1.46mb DLS.
    I know I have to wait 3 - 10 days but with power cuts its a nightmare, and they are so adamant about my 2mb downstream limit What the hell has happened.

    I'm not educated enough to help but it mat reassure you, as it did me, to know your circumstances are not unique.
    Your story sounds very simialr to my experiende last November, speeds and line length being very similar.  An engineer said there was noise on my line so he switched me to another pair.  Did the engineer do that for you too ? Net result my speed dropped from ~2.3 to ~1.4Mbps. 
    Fortunately a 21CN upgrade at my excahnge has brought my speed back up to ~2.4Mbps.
    I'm sure imjolly, john46 and maybe a mod if you need it will sort you out as well as they did me.

  • Infinity speed drop

    I have had Infinity option 2 for around 3 months and all has been fine until the past week.
    I usually get 76MB down and 20MB up 
    the past week the speed has dropped to 70mb down and 19mb up for no apparant reason.
    I am on the BT homehub 5 and its connected directly to the master socket.
    I live aprox 150 meters from the street cabinet.
    There has been a lot of "resolving host" and page load errors the past week or 2 as well.

    It could be this crosstalk, I have been the only one in the area to have Fibre, but 2 neighbors have just had it installed in the last 2 weeks.
    Thankfully I was told by BT that I could attain between 70-76MB so if it drops again Ill back on to them I guess.
    *(EDIT) Actually looking at my logs I have a screnshot of the speed estimate when I first signed up for the service to be 76-80MB and 20MB up.
    Max attainable data rate has gone from 76xxx / 90xxx to - 25xxx / 71xxx
    Ill be keeping a close eye on this for sure.
    It may not seem like a large drop, but going from 76mb to 70mb results in a speed drop of around 12-15% my download speeds were 9MB/s they are now 8MB/s.
    This also answers the lack of feedback from the forum reps and moderators I guess as a known problem they just keep sthum about it.
    Kinda discusting really.
    So afaik they are already in breach of their contract I signed up for?

  • Fibre Speed...not

    Okay, im a newbie to the wonders of BT and 'fibre' speeds, but can somebody help me here please!!!?!!!
    I have a host of never ending issues and internet speed is just one.  Despite waiting over 12 weeks for install I was content to wait given the beyond shocking service from my previous supplier.  Though the internet speeds were good (standard broadband) and experienced no drops, I still thought I would try BT's unrivaled truly unlimited fibre.  After a line check i given estimated speeds of 39mb d/load and 9mb u/load.
    So, why (after 6 weeks) is my internet still slower than the previous?!? Its slower on every device and its getting beyond frustrating now.  With constant drop-outs, a pointless/useless youview box which has only now just managed to connect to iplayer etc, missing 'extra' channels, hang-ups, over 3 mins to boot-up, missed recordings and constant error messages etc etc...
    Ive done no end of line tests and usually come-back with the above mentioned results (sometimes far-less though), yet the speed is little better than dial-up.  Constant drop-outs - its the 21st Century....jeeez
    The icing on the cake yesterday was over £80 was taken from the bank account (28th), yet payment date is the 17th and @ £33.99.  All this despite me making it very clear not to attempt taking any monies until we have a service.
    In 6 weeks we have shelled-out in the region of £150 for the opportunity to use iplayer etc for the last 5 days - something which we use a games console for, as it works! Not forgetting being able to watch the odd episode of a series that hasnt recorded in its entirety.
    Not fit for purpose...

  • Huge speed drop on Infinity2 :(

    Hi all, Ive been signed up with BT for nearly a year now and have been very impressed so far (after coming from VM) - Im on the Infinty2 plan with Broadband/Phone only and speeds ever since installation have been very fast and consistent, infact no problems whatsoever since day 1...
    Until about a week and a half ago when I noticed content heavy pages and sites started to take a while to load, so I ran a speed test and the first one reported about a 50% drop in speeds. Slightly worrying but still reasonably fast. Over the following days using the net started to become a real pain to use, pages were taking a longer and longer time to load (or timing out) and watching videos become increasingly difficult, gaming suffered the most (the reason for buying the service) and with each speedtest I ran the speeds were getting lower and lower. At the moment my connecton is currently runnning at about 2-3mb down and seems to be capped at 1mb up?
    After a call to BT and a visit from the engineer the next day, he said the line appeared to be ok and was reporting a speed of 76/20. Ive since changed the router back and forth between the HH3 and my own Netgear one and the NG produces a slightly faster speed but still only a fraction of what I'm paying for :/
    Any help would be much appreciated, or pointers in the direction of further trouble shooting.

    Time for another update - sadly still no change. After searching a lot of tech forums I found a few settings and checks to carry out (mostly command line stuff)  At the weekend, after resetting/clearing the DNS cahce there was a slight increase for a few hours - jumping to about 8 up and 5/6 down :/
    But after the weekend the speed dropped back down again to the usual '2 down and 1 up', The connection at the moment appears to be so slow that even the BTW speedtest can't carry out the further diagnostics part of the test!
    The only test I haven't tried recently is a direct connection to the modem from my pc (as this will involve moving furniture and general faffing, so this is a job for the weekend!)  as I'm using a different router at the moment, NetGear WNDR3400
    After searching on the web, Ive found and tried the following things:
    -global autotuning setting in win7 - disabled or auto
    -disable IPv6 on network card
    -change speed/duplex setting on network card from auto to 1Gbit/Full duplex
    -update driver for network card (was slightly out of date)
    -reset tcp/ip and winsock settings in win7
    -flush/release/rest DNS settings
    None of these settings made little (if any) difference apart from clearing the DNS which led to the temp increase in speed at the weekend.
    Ive sent an email to the mod team after the last update so maybe I'll get some sort of resolution some time soon...

  • Wireless speed dropping to 5.5Mbps

    Hi Folks,
    I like the ArchLinux distribution and have enjoyed it for a few years now.
    But recently I noticed my wifi speed dropping like crazy, I reinstalled my router (DD-WRT) but that didn't fix anything.
    So I tried something else, I booted to Windows and I found that I had normal speeds (54Mbps) during the span of an hour.
    Afterwards I rebooted back to linux, and the speed immediately dropped to 5.5Mbps
    This started about 1 or 2 weeks back, I'm guessing after some pacman update..
    Are there any regression or new bugs known which affect my performance?

    The solution which is working for me is the following.
    Create the following file:
    /etc/modprobe.d/iwl3945.conf
    And put the following in it:
    options iwl3945 disable_hw_scan=0
    Of course the file name in modprobe.d can be different but must end with .conf

  • Broadband speeds dropped

    I'm sorry if this has been posted before but it could of taken a while to find a thread on exactly the same subject as mine
    I got BT Broadband, Option 3 last month. When I signed up I was told I could get upto 7.5MB download speeds and for the last month I have been getting speeds of around 5 - 6.9MB which I was very happy about but over the last few days I have seen my speed drop to around 1.7 - 1.9MB and in 1 case as low as 0.7MB.
    My phone still works so I don't think there is a problem with my phone line, I don't believe there is a problem with my router but just so you know I have the HomeHub 2.0
    . I recently did a speed test on the BT website and it claims I can get upto 8MB which is 0.5 more than a month ago so is it possible that the exchange has had some work done on it and it will just take a few days for things to get back to normal? I would appreciate any help that you could give me

  • Upgraded from HH3 to HH5 and Speed Dropped Straigh...

    Hello All,
    I did a very foolish thing earlier in the week. I ordered a Home Hub 5 to replace my Hub 3. I installed it today and immediately the download speed dropped from an average 71megs (+BT WiFi Allowance) to 61megs. I spoke to online support and they basically told me I was only guaranteed about 55meg. Now, I have been getting 71 for more than a year - completely constant. No problems, very little variation. BT Wholesale Speedtest shows my download speed has dropped to 61.00 and my profile is set to 62.28. The slowdown is quite noticable in use. I presume the changeover has caused my line to be re-profiled which, naively, I didn't expect to happen as I was only changing the hub. My hub stats are shown below. Any help would be most appreciated. I have to say though that I should have followed the expression 'If it ain't broke don't fix it' and left things well alone!

    I have an update........ after several calls to India I finally found a level 2 Tech that seemed to know what he was doing, very helpful well spoken guy called Sanjeev (pobably never get him again).
    I told him that my HH5 drops out and is very unstable and I should get 75meg but was fluctuation between 6 and 32meg on wi fi.I told him I hve reverted back to my old Huib 3 and Router setrup and both him and an engineer that visited me said that ws a good move. He told me to do the following:
    Go into the hub and change the channel to 11 
    turn all media off that was connecting to the wi fi, from mobiles to laptops and iPads and even the Youview box
    unplug the Router then the HH3 and leave off
    he then resent the line to clear as he said "static/cache on the line and anything holding memory"
    a few minutes later he came back and said to start up the white Router untill the power and DSL lights were on and steady
    turn the HH3 back on and wiait for the 3 blue lights
    fire up my wireless laptop and go to Speedtest.net and check the speed and consistancey
    The result.......... back up to 36meg wifi which is what it used to be in my conservatory and steady as a rock. I get steady 75meg wired and I expect about 50% loss for the distance away through wi fi.
    I am now getting a £33 refund for my trouble and am now trying to arrange for the refund of my HH5 which I have told them is "Not fit for purpose" and asked for my contract to be reverted to before I upgraded.  Watch this spce for update

  • BT Infinity 2 Speed dropped and now doesn't recove...

    I've had BT Infinity 2 for a couple of years now and it has been working flawlessly. I use a Fritz!Box 7390 router and have had no problems at all with it.
    That is until mid-January 2014 when I noticed by connection speed dropping down to less than 40MB/s and about 9MB/s on the upload. Now some may say that this is fine, and it does exceed my promised speed of 31MB/s by BT, which is true. However for the last two years I've constantly had speeds of 55-70Mb download and upload speeds of 13-18MBs.
    Speedtest.net is reporting: 40Mb download and 10.3 Mb upload.
    I do a lot of file transfers and remote server work so I notice the speed drop.
    The Frtiz!Box reports some interesting statistics. Currently it is showing this:

    Now I know for a fact that prior to this issue the Fritz!Box has been reportinging a Max. DSLAM throughput of 79000 and 20000 with an attainable data rate of 81000 and 24000 respectively. I suspect that there is something wrong either at the exchange DSLAM or with the line in between.
    From the above figures it suggests that I am only obtaining BT Infiinty 1 speeds on my line and not Infinity 2. However my account says Infinity 2 and checking with the BT guys they report that there is no problem because I'm getting more than that promised 31 MB/s.
    Frustrating as I know this has changed in the last three weeks. What's more suspecious is that I have the Fritz!Box sete to disconnect/reconnect every day at 4am. This means that every day normally I get a varying speed e.g. one day it might report 60/14, the next 55/13, etc. However since I've noticed this problem the line speed never changes, constantly reporting 44/12 with no fluctuation at all. This has been happening for about 3-5 weeks.
    I just wondered if there is anything I can do now to find out where or really if there is a problem. BT 150 telephone support in India don't want to know because they say I'm getting more than 31Mbs.

  • 5GHz Speed Drops By Half Over 2.5GHz

    I recently moved my Time Capsule to 5GHz due to the wireless access point density in my area. I did notice greatly improved signal and reliability.
    However, I noticed my speed dropped from 20Mbps to about 9Mbps.
    My Time Capsule plugs into my Cable Modem, which is also a 2.5GHz wireless access point (part of the problem), when I switch my Mac to the 2.5 GHz Cable Modem, my speed returns to normal. When I switch it back to the Time Capsule, it drops by over half. The TC is being extended by an Airport Express (capable of 5GHz as well).
    Obviously this is unacceptable. Is this how the 5GHz range works? It compromises your speed in exchange for better connectivity?
    The Time Capsule is set to select its 5GHz channel automatically. Could this be part of the problem?
    My iPad and iPhone both access the 5GHz TC, are these pulling the network speed down? They dont pull the speed down in the 2.5GHz mode.
    Can anything be done to optimize the connection to restore my speed, or do I have to drop back to 2.5GHz connection.

    It might be helpful to understand that there are always trade offs with any design.
    While 5 GHz signals are capable of higher speeds than 2.4 GHz, the higher frequency signals are not as strong as 2.4 GHz signals. So, any obstructions in the signal path will affect the 5 GHz signal more than a 2.4 GHz signal.
    For that reason, it is a good idea to think of 5 GHz as a line-of-sight deal. It will usually work well in the same room as the wireless router, but once you turn the corner and head down the hall, the 5 GHz signal strength will fall off rapidly.
    This may likely be what you are experiencing. Your post does not provide information about where the TC is located or where other devices are located and what obstructions may be present in the signal path.  So, we're guessing a bit here.

    All you can really do is try to minimize obstructions in the signal path. Give the TC as clear of a look into the room as possible and each wireless device as clear of a look at the TC as possible.
    The same rules would apply to an AirPort Express that is set up to "extend" the wireless signal. You might need to move the Express closer to the Time Capsule so that it will pick up a stronger and faster signal to "extend".
    If you have the ability to connect the AirPort Express using an Ethernet cable back to the Time Capsule, the Express will provide a much faster signal that way since if receives full bandwidth over the wire. If it extends using wireless only, it can only extend the quality of signal that it receives. In other words, if it gets a slow signal, that is what will be extended.

    I keep getting told that they can't change the acceptable range of speeds for this line to read 600Kbps to 7150Kbps as this was originally set when I first took broadband from BT, but surely they can rerun the test's that set up this configuration so that the acceptable range of speeds for this line reads as above.
    I used to, prior to a length of main cable being replaced back in May of this year, between the exchange and the street box, get a DSL of between 2648Kbps and 3020Kbps.  When the cable was replaced, they replaced 9Guage with 5Guage.  Also it has been found out by two engineer's that about 325Mtrs from my property that there is a sudden drop of 1000Kbps.  Both BT and Openreach seem to think that this is acceptable.  I don't and niether do my neiboughers, who are also affected.
    Please get back to me with a reasonable answer to this.  Not like when I dealt with Mods in the past and they would only answer one part of the problem.

    The bit loading is not great on that liine ....
    And it's little to do with the metallic path specification you referred to in another post.
    One thing is certain, Openreach operate to strict codes of practice, and don't just install any old wire .... 
    The noise margin is not bad, target is 6db ... but the problem there is that you have a high forward error count
    which demonstrates a profound level of interleave, which does cause some latency.
    It's the bitloading that's causing the high error count.
    Sometimes a RF3 filter, fitted by Openreach can cure some of this ... sometimes not.
    But the CRC, cyclic redundancy checks, are re-transmitted packets, and therefore do absorb bandwidth.
    Also the errored second count is high, these are seconds which have seen bad error rates.
    I don't think you'd benefit by going into the test socket either, as most errors are downstream and margin is
    fair, the CRC up errors are false, a result of poor scripting in the hub firmware.
    You could try buying quality line filters, or using a v1 splitter socket face, but to be honest, your line is your line,
    and that's why the broadband is line adaptive ... to cater for all quality levels of lines.
    Yours is not the best I've seen.
    You could try a reset at midday, often gaining a higher sync rate, as much as 400-500kbps.
    No more than 3 resets in 24 hours, DLM will downgrade the IP.

    You could well be looking at a new iPod, but this will only cost you a couple of bucks, and a little time. Worth trying, but it maybe to late, (I just don't want to give you any false hope.) Turn your iPod off and leave it off, do not attempt to charge it or use until you dry your iPod out. Put it in a sealed bag of rice for at least 7 to 10 days. change the rice daily. If (and it's a "BIG" if) your lucky after drying the iPod it will start up when you turn on the power. You may need to charge it for at least 30 minutes to get some signs of life. If it does not turn on after charging attempt a reset, press and hold both the power and home buttons together for about 15 seconds until the Apple logo appears, then release both buttons. If your iPod turns on, check that all is working. If you get it to work the first thing you should be is back up everything on your iPod to your computer, no guarantee it will continue to work. Water does bad things to electronic toys. If it doesn't work your only out a couple of bucks, then it's time for new toys. You may want to look at replacing with a refurbished iPod, about 1/2 of new. Good luck.

  • Homehub 5 speed dropped off

    I've noticed my Fibre speed rapidly decrease over the last week or two.  When I was first connected (15/12/2014) I had a speed test of 40.14Mb Download and 10.46 Upload.  Today (03/02/15) I am now getting 5.49 Mb Download and 0.74 Mb Upload!
    I have tried the Quiet Line test - no issues.  There are also no problems listed on my line / in the area via the BT website.

    I reset the Hub this evening via the small reset hole on the rear.  I also switch off the Hub every day.
    Any help in resolving this issue will be much appreciated.
