Field Explorer missing

Post Author: Dmc
CA Forum: Crystal Reports
Hi all, maybe a newbie question but still very annoying problem. When I start up my XI I can not get field explorer as usual. Neither icon nor menu item works. There is no problem in creating connections to the SQL database nor creating groups or making record selection, but field explorer and report explorer are gone and can not be brought back.  Does anyone recognize the problem and have a suggestion how to solve it. RegardsDraggan

Go to View... , Toolbars,
and check 'Reset all toolbars and explorers on the next restart'
Then, restart Crystal.

  • SQL Expressions missing from field explorer

    Hi SAP,
I am using Crystal XI and created a report several months ago.  I want to update the report by using an SQL expression to increase performance.  However, I do not see the SQL Expression available to me in the field explorer just on this particular report.  If I create a new document or open another report I see the SQL Expression feature available for me to use.  There have been no updates to my machine or any Crystal upgrades since I've designed the original report.
Does anyone know why the SQL Expression feature is missing or how I can get it back.  The report is to complicated to re-create from scratch.
    Thank you in advance,
    Zack H

  • Some fields missing in Field Explorer

    Hi Experts,
I am designing a Crystal report template. I cannot view some fields in Field Explorer.
And data type of these fields is nvarchar(X), e.g. nvarchar(10)
How can I do to have these fields show? Then I can use them in report.
I'd like to add more information:
Crystal Reports 2008, CR Developer Version
    SQL Server 2008
    Connection is OLE DB
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Christina,
Even though they are defined as small char types they can still have BLOB type data inserted into them. Or SQL Server changed their driver and CR doesn't support the type now.
If you have not already try installing Service Pack 3 and then Fix Pack 3.1 and test again. We did some fixes for that type, but unfortunately it was not completely fixed.
When you selected OLE DB did you choose the Native 10 driver or the OLE DB driver? It's the Native 10 driver we don't fully support yet.
    Thank you

  • "SQL Expression Fields" branch missing from Formula Workshop/Field Explorer

    Hello,
I am using Crystal Reports XI R2 SP3.  Some recent information I have seen suggests that I should use a feature called "SQL Expression Fields".  If I search the built-in Crystal Report help for "SQL Expressions", on the help pages I see that there is a "SQL Expression Fields" branch in the left pane of the Formula Workshop, just under Formula Fields and just above Selection Formulas (it's unfortunate that I cannot embed a bitmapped screen print of this).  The left pane of the Formula Workshop looks like this:
    Report Custom Functions
    Repository Custom Functions
    Formula Fields
    SQL Expression Fields
    Selection Formulas
    Formatting Formulas
However, in my local copy of Crystal Reports the SQL Expression Fields branch does not exist - the left pane of the Formula Workshop looks like this:
    Report Custom Functions
    Repository Custom Functions
    Formula Fields
    Selection Formulas
    Formatting Formulas
Is there some special patch, add-in or plug-in that's necessary to enable this functionality?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Bob Gardner

I set up a DSN to a local MS Access database and used it for an ODBC connection.  Once connected, the SQL Expression Fields branch was available in Field Explorer and Formula Workshop.
But I am developing reports for an ERP system that uses Oracle 10g databases - I have no choice but to use Oracle 10g databases as data sources for my reports.  I am not sure how to set up an ODBC connection to an Oracle database as I have never had to do so - will SQL Expression Fields not work with the native Oracle driver?
    Thank you,
    Bob Gardner

  • Field Explorer in Crystal Reports does not show the same names as Bex Query

    Hi
I have crystal reports, I can retrieve data from BW Bex Query. But in the field explorer it does not show the names as in the Bex query designer.
In the Bex query designer a field will have the following technical name 0Debitor and the description is Customer.
It shows in crystal reports in the field explorer twice as D[0DEBITOR]D and D[0DEBITOR]D. It also does not seperate key figures and characteristics.
I would like it to display the field explorer as shown in this blog.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    take a look here:
    /people/ingo.hilgefort/blog/2008/02/19/businessobjects-and-sap-part-2
make sure you are using the MDX Driver and what happens is that you will see several fields per characteristic. example: one for the key, one for the description, several if modelled for the display attributes

  • MissingFieldException[ The following required field is missing from the lau

Hi, I'm new to this forum so please put this thread in the right place if I have made a mistake.
    But here's my problem:
I'm using jre 7 with the latest version.
I downloaded and wanted to launch a Java based .jar game, which runs perfectly for the other users but my JRE gives the following error:
Application error - unable to launch the application.
MissingFieldException[ The following required field is missing from the launch file: <jnlp>]
         at com.sun.javaws.jnl.XMLFormat.parse(Unknown Source)
         at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(Unknown Source)
         at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(Unknown Source)
         at com.sun.javaws.jnl.LaunchDescFactory.buildDescriptor(Unknown Source)
         at com.sun.javaws.Main.launchApp(Unknown Source)
         at com.sun.javaws.Main.continueInSecureThread(Unknown Source)
         at com.sun.javaws.Main.access$000(Unknown Source)
         at com.sun.javaws.Main$1.run(Unknown Source)
         at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)
On the forum where is the game developed i got the following answer:
''+it seems your OS/jre installation tries to start the jar as an applet which fails, because it's a regular application and not an applet. is there any way you can convince your jre to start LS as an application? i would like to give better/more detailed advice, but i'm not running windows, so i can't check for myself/try to work out a step-by-step guide.+ ''
As I have browsed the internet for hours and haven't come up with a solution I'm asking for some help.

That error seems to indicate that the JNLP file is broken because it is missing the starting starting <jnlp> XML tag; I'll take a guess and just say that it is completely empty. Since it works for other users, apparently somehow when you download it on your computer you end up with a broken file. No idea why, no way for me to know why either. I don't have access to your computer. All I can say is: try in another browser and if that doesn't work, try on another computer. If it works there, well then you may have to face the fact that your computer might need a clean install.
And PS: this is a Java programming forum, not technical support for whatever game you want to play that just happens to use Java.

  • No Data in Field Explorer

    CA Forum: .NET
Hi... I'm currently using visual studio 2005 team edition and the built-in Crystal report. In my report, i use the Project data source (from ado.net, I created a view before in the database). In visual studio, when i open the view to see the the data in the table, i have 1 record.however, when i use that view (or even table) in the crystal report, when i try to browse the data from the field explorer, i see no data.please help me to fix this problem, is there anything wrong that i do? thank you in advance for your helpBest regards Danny

    Michael,
We had a similar situation but from my reseach the output from the stored procs cannot be viewed in the report designer in Eclipse. So we had to design the reports using the Crystal Reports Devloper application (the stand-alone version, not the Eclipse editor). The reports were designed w/an ODBC datasource. In order to get that working we had to create a JNDI JDBC datasource connection w/the exact same name as the ODBC datasource and that works. For example, the ODBC datasource was named OP01DSDB01.WORLD so we just created a JNDI datasource w/that exact same name (no jdbc/OP01DSDB01.WORLD just OP01DSDB01.WORLD). I'm not sure if there is a workaround for any of this but this was the easiest way to get them working.
I know this isn't the ideal situation, but that was the easiest way to get things working.

  • Fields are missing in Purchasing View

    Dear Experts,
We have developed Work flow to create material. The work flow cycle follows like this
    <b>User1-Basic Data1&2,User2-Sales Views,User 3-Purchasing View,User4-MRP Views and User5- Finance and Accounting Views...</b>
For this we made an option in Basic Data1 view. There is a field called <b>Lab/Office</b>,we customized this field for our purpose.
1.If we give value as 1, system will trigger user to create a material through work flow.
2.If we give value as 2,system will come out of work flow, and user can create a material as normal.
Now we got an issue like this...when user has created a material through work flow,in Purchasing View some fields are missing...<b>Purchasing Group,Plant-sp.matl status,Tax ind. f. material,Qual.f.FreeGoodsDis,Autom.PO</b>....
While creation of material this Purchasing Group field is appearing at the time of MRP1 and after creation of material, when we go for display material it is showing <b>Purchasing Group,Plant-sp.matl status,Tax ind. f. material,Qual.f.FreeGoodsDis</b> fields.....
Why it is happening like this???Does this Lab/Office Field has got any affect on work flow???
    Please reply me...
    Regards
    MK

    Dear Ashish,
We had given authorization to user.
I would like to ask one more thing, with this particular user we tried to create a material through normal procedure with MM01.Then also in Purchasing View Screen, some fields are missing.
    <b>Purchasing Group,Plant-sp.matl status,Tax ind. f. material,Qual.f.FreeGoodsDis,Autom.PO....</b>...
We tried to create with other user, then we can see all field Purchasing View....
So is there any settings on user specific for these fields???
    Please Do Reply me....

  • Report and Field Explorer dont work in Crystal Reports 2008

    Hi
I am using the following versions of Crystal Reports:
Crystal Reports 2008  (Service Pack 1)
    CR Developer
    Version 12.1.0.892
    Product Type: Full
Target environment: .NET 3.5 windows forms and asp.net application
Since a couple of days, i can no longer access the field explorer nor the report exlorer. Anything else seems to be working fine. I first thought these windows were somewhere hidden behind another window but as much as i searched, i didnt succed in finding them :-(.  Our product has a valid licence and is registered, by the way.
My question is now, what do i have to do to get my field/report explorer again. Maybe, installing the latest service pack had an influence, but i cannot tell for sure.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks in advance

  • SLED field is missing in ECC 6.0

    Hello!!!
    we're upgrading from 4.6C to ECC 6.0.
I have a problem with SLED field in MIGO transaction in ECC 6.0
For not batch-managed materials, the SLED check is activated.
1)In Custimizing, the plant and movement type are actived.
    2) remining self life in Material master plant stock view -> 0 Days
    3)The PO -> 0 Days
    4) Info record -> 0 Days
WHen we enter the MIGO transaction, in Material tab, the SLED field is missing, so we can't enter de SLED. If I maintain in PO or material, more than 0 Days, the field is open, but It doesn't work with 0 Days...
In 4.6C version, the SLED filed is open, and It's OK.
    I don't find the solution...any idea???
    Thanks ins advance.
    Best regards
    María.

    Hello,
    thank you so much.
I think that there is not soultion. SAP told me:
    Dear Maria ,
You have set the Maximum period, Minimum remaining shelf life and
Total shelf life as zero. I tested this on our internal test system
and when these are all set to zero the fields PROD & SLED are not
visisble in the Material tab in tcode MIGO.
The shelf life is only checked when you enter a goods receipt if the
    following prerequisites are met :-
1.The minimum remaining shelf life is maintained in the material master
record or in the purchase order. The minimum remaining shelf life is theminimum number of days for which the material must keep for the goods
receipt to be accepted by the system.
2.The shelf life expiration date check is active for the plant and
movement type in Customizing for Inventory Management. In the
transaction SPRO,if you check in SAP Reference IMG
Material Management > Inventory management and Physical Inventory
    > Goods Receipt > Set Expiration date Check, the SLExp/prDt field
is checked for plant and material movement

  • Unable to view Field Explorer

In Crystal Reports 2008, I've been working with a client who is unable to view the Field Explorer window to edit her report.  When you select the View menu and Field Explorer, nothing happens.  We can verify the database and are connected to our table fine, but can't seem to access the Field Explorer for editing.  The only work-around is to use a wizard to create reports, but it's very time-consuming trying to make changes and edit that way.  Has anyone seen this before?  We don't have access to the setup files to try reinstalling, but we can track them down if that's the best starting point.  I just thought it was odd and wondered if there was an easy fix.  Thanks

click on View | Toolbars and in the pop up window, check the box next to Reset all toolbars and explorers on next restart.
Restart CR 2008 and see if the field explorer displays.

  • Field explorer does not open on my terminal services profile

    Dear Sirs,
For some reason I am unable to open my field explorer in any crystal report on my terminal services profile. I have checked with other profiles and the problem does not exist. The problem is specific to my profile. I can also create new reports and access fields however if I use the filed explorer button I cannot access fields, parameters or formulas from there. Problem just started this morning. We have been using crystal reports X1 for last 12 months. Would it be a terminal server issue?
I would appreciate whatever help you can give me.
