Field Point FP-1000 communication issue - Device found but offline in MAX

Hello,
I am trying to control several field point PLCs in a level tank. They are communicating through a FP-1000 module. I am able to add the devices through a configuration file in MAX. But there is an error saying " The device is offline. Make sure the device is connected and its power is on. " All of the field point PLCs have green light on for both " Power" and "Ready". I am not sure what the issue is here. I am using Labview 2014 and Field Point , VISA drivers are installed. Please see attached pictures for details.
Many Thanks
FLiu

Thanks for your reply. I installed the most updated version for both ones. It turns out the configuration file for FP-1000 bank points to the wrong COM port for the Serial communication. I am able to communicate with the system now. I do have another problem through. I only have excutable labview files and a configuration file for the control system that I am working with. The original VI project file were lost. After importing the right configuration file in MAX, I installed the excutables and tried to run it. There is no response at all.The labview only last a few seconds and stopped. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I HIGHLY suggest He create a new AppleID for himself.
He can do it now then simply use the new AppleID when he gets the iPhone.
Best suggsetion its to have a computer login for him wtih is own iTunes and then he will have his own contacts, calendars and all other data.
He can do that now & set up iCloud then when he gets the phone, he can simply enter his AppleID and its done.

Try here.  Start with the one the best fits your symptoms.

When I AirPort Utility I'm getting the message "AirPort Utility was unable to find any AirPort wireless devices. Make sure the AirPort wireless device you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then click rescan to try again."
What's odd is my Mac Mini is logged into my AirPort Extreme, and I tested my AirPort Express, and it is working also. Why is AirPort Utility having problems seeing these two devices that are up and functioning properly?

Could this be a PC/Mac firewall application issue? i.e. TCP 5009 for the AirPort Admin Utility port.

I only know of the standard stuff on FieldPoint from NI.  The Quickstart Guide is good for wiring, and there is HELP>FieldPOINT in LabVIEW itself (you need to make sure the FieldPOINT software option is installed on your computer as it isn't in the default installation of LabVIEW).
After connecting you FP-1000 to an RS-232 COM Port, the next step is to open a new LabVIEW Project and Add New "Targets and Devices...":
From there you can get to the configuration screen:

BTW, after the initial learning hurdle, FieldPOINT is very easy to use.

  • Lookout Ethernet Communications to Field Point Modules

How do I monitor 'link' between the Lookout program and the Ethernet
Field Point Module. I have tried using CommFail, but it seems to only
work intermittantly.  'Link' is always present and I don't have
any problems communicating to the devices.  I am just trying to
come up with a way if the cable was broken (aka - loose link) , I can
detect and display this in Lookout.
    I am using Lookout 5.0.
    Thanks for your help
    Suzi

The best approach may be to implement a "heartbeat" signal yourself -- use a digital output and toggle it on the FieldPoint, and monitor it in Lookout.  Or setup a counter and monitor that.  Search this Lookout forum for other heartbeat options in Lookout.

  • Hello, I have created a distribution kit for my program. The problem is that the when the program is installed onto another computer, it fails to communicate with field point (Using FP-AO-200 and FP-AO-1000). Help is greatly appreciated, Thanks faen9901

    Hi Everyone,
I have a program that sends information(analog output) to lab windows cvi in the form of a text file or user input.
The program runs on the computers that I have the field point explorer and lab windows cvi installed on. In order to run the program without always installing labwindows/cvi and field point; I wanted to create an executable file that could be load on another computer.
I used the create distribution kit part of labwindows/cvi to do this. After creating the distribution kit, I then installed it
    to another computer.
My user interface appears on the screen, when the user clicks on the exe. file, but no data is sent to the field point module. I know that the data is being read from the user and textfile because in it appears in the uir.
The following are some details about the problem:
    1. On another computer without labwindows/cvi and field point explorer not installed - no data is sent to field point module
I know this because a current is being read on the current meter connected to field point module.
    My questions are the following:
    1. What are the possible reasons for the data not being sent to the field point module?
    2. Do I still need to create an iak. (Installing Field point Explorer) file stored on any new computer that I install my created distribution kit file too?
Thankyou very much for any help that you can provide. I greatly appreciate it.

    1) If you do not install FieldPoint Explorer, the FieldPoint Server is not installed so there is nothing on the target computer that knows how to talk to the FieldPoint system.
    2) Yes, you need an IAK file on the target computer. Assuming the settings (i.e. com port#) are identical you can simply include the iak file as part of the distribution.
    3) You also need to include as part of your installer the file "fplwmgr.dll". If this file is not installed, your program will not be able to access the FieldPoint Server. Alternatively, this file is installed automatically if FieldPoint Explorer detects LabWindows/CVI or Measurement Studio Development versions on the target computer or if you choose to do a custom FieldPoint Explorer installation and
    choose to provide LabWindows/CVI support.

  • No Output Devices Found and Track Pad Issues

I bought my Macbook Pro in mid-November 2011.  Yesterday I noticed that my Macbook did not have any sound and when I checked System Preferences it gave me the dreaded "No output devices found" message.  I could hear a start up sound but nothing after I have already logged in to any of my accounts.  This is the first time I encountered it and I did some research so I have already done a PRAM reset, permission repair and I even created a new user account to see if I will encounter the same problem.  Same thing on the other user account, still no sound.  I also found out that the sound would only come out with a USB headset.  Headsets with jacks won't work either.
I brought the unit to a service center and they advised me to reinstall OS X Lion and I did.  There was sound right after I reinstalled the OS.  However, it was gone again when I did a reboot.  I also noticed that my track pad won't respond on certain occasions and I have to do a force shutdown by pressing the power button.  What could be the problem?  I am fearing that this is a hardware issue.  I prefer not to have to bring the unit to a service center, wait for a week to get it back then only to encounter the same problem in the future.

Try resetting the PRAM and SMC...

  • Do compact Field Point devices need special drivers in Lookout?

We recently switched one of our processes from regular to compact Field Point.  We use Lookout 6.0.1 and are having trouble accessing signals from the Field Point object created in Lookout.  Do we need a compact Field Point driver, or does the regular driver support compact field point objects.  Thanks for your help.

I am using Lookout 6.0.1, that we purchased about 2 and a half years ago.  I do not beleive we have updated any drivers in that time.  We are able to view, edit and controls signals with MAX, and have saved our edited informations to a new .iak file.  We are using a cFP-1804 backplane with a cDO-400, a cAIO-600, and cTC-125 modules and cCB-1 and 3 bases.  Our problem is that in Lookout we do not see any of the connected channels listed in the newly created Field Point object when trying to edit connections or modify existing objects like gauges and hypertrends.  We entered the .iak file and checked the import alias information box when creating the FP object.  I have been able to write to the DO module, by entering the address DO001.00 in the edit connetions menu, but hae not had the same luck with the AIO or TC channels.

Ok, if it worked on that system before, you should be able to get it working again.  Does your PCI card show up properly in NI MAX?  Can you upload a screen shot of the device there?  Do you have an option in MAX to send a command to the FP-1001 and see if the communication was established properly?  How does your PCI card show up in the Windows Device Manager, any exclamation points indicating that the device driver is not installed or recognized?

  • Tips on transferring LV executable that uses Field Point Serial to another PC

I have been trying to transfer an LabVIEW compiled executable  from one PC to another
The executable references 2 field point serial banks.
After hours of frustration I think I have it pinned it down to the fact that (at least for me) It is not possible unless LabVIEW is invoked on the target machine.
Only if I start LV 2010 and configure a field point control on it then LabVIEW can refer to the Bank. After that I can have it refer to the correct IAK file and the executable will work.
However IF I try to transfer from another machine without starting LabVIEW on the target machine it simply will not work for me.
It seems that I have to load a FIeld point control on a block diagram of a new machine then configure it to get dialogs to come up specifying
how to select the proper configuration. I do not see any of this help in MAX
Id much rather have a way of setting up in MAX than having my EXE work right away. Instead my workaround is to
start LabVIEW and configure a field point control to get it set up proiperly.
This means I may have to install yet another version of LabVIEw to get the exe to work again and its getting tiresome.
I use INI files for the serial port settings. Its the field point software that has me going in circles.
If anyone have any experience or tips for transferring an executable that uses fieldpoint serial (FP-1000) from one PC to another PC
without having to invoke LabVIEW to configureit I would be interested in hearing from you. Thanks
PS Target machine has LV2010   MAV ver 4.70f4
    Executable compiled in LV 2010
Source Machine has LV 2010 SP1  MAX ver 4.7.6
Executable compiled in LV 2010 SP1
My next move is to upgrade the target to 2010 SP1 and try again but it has already taken me days to transfer this one program
and I still cant figure out how to do it so I might just wait and see if there is any interest in helping me first.
    Thanks again!

I have been to these KnowledgeBase links and what is so frustrating about it is that I have have not seen anything that was not already done
automatically when I created the executable on the source machine and transferred the executable to the target machine.

MY FP version is 6.07 on both machines.
The dll is where its supposed to be on the target machine in a Data subfolder under the main application (exe) folder
The IAK file is created in MAX with the designations identical to what is the source machine.
The EXE is now partially working (somehow) but I am trying to find out the exact procedure for next time so I can write it down for future reference..
EVen though the target application now 'sees' the Field point banks the utility I added into the exe to allow user to configure a front panel Field Point control
(should it be required) does not work. Instead when I try to browse configure the control in the executable I now get this error dialog.
This must be the root of all my troubles.
I am now attempting to resolve this by installing LV2010 SP1  and DCD_NOV10 on the target machine so that it matches the source machine.
(If I am going to re-install Fieldpoint I might as well install the whole Device Driver CD)
I hope this solves this issue once and for all.
Your knowledge base insists that if the field point versions are the same on both machines and if the DLL is where it is supposed to be and if the IAK file is loaded and saved
this should work. It did not and still does not fully work. If I can find the exact reason I will report it in this thread.

  • FIX: FireWire communication issue solved - What worked for me

After installing the iPod Updater 2006-01-10, I found that my FireWire devices (not just my iPod) no longer worked. After much messing about with all the suggestions I found online (none of which worked) I've managed to sort out the FireWire communication issues I had.
you can read about the exact issues I had here:
    http://forums.kustompcs.co.uk/showthread.php?t=35034
    and here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1562072
Unfortunately those looking for a quick fix will be disappointed, I had to:
    a) Send my iPod Mini back to Apple, which was promptly replaced
    b) Totally re-install Windows (including drive format)
    c) Borrow the install CD that came with my friends iPod, which had a later version of iPod Updater (2005-10-12) than the one I had on my install CD, but earlier than the dreaded 2006-01-10
If anyone needs this updater (as it's impossible to find an earlier one on Apple's website) drop me your email in here and I'll send you the web address to download it. This is basically a ZIP of the original CD, totally virus free (for those that are worried) and appears to work fine.
If Apple have an issue with this, then why don't you fix the link on your site to this updater; this is simply my response to the complete lack of response from Apple on this matter.
A quick note about the: 'connection rate=S100 ERROR'.
If you discover you have this error when you test your iPod in diagnostic mode; find out how to do this here:
    http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
Then it appears there is nothing you can do to fix this other than sending it back to Apple. No amount of restoring will solve it.
I hope this helps someone out there! I've yet to fix the issue with my LaCie drive (basically it needs sending back) which if anything proves that whatever screwed my system did something to the hardware on a low level, it wasn't a Windows software issue, because after re-installing it, I download SP2 and ALL the latest hotfixes, if that was the cause, it would have done it again.
This leaves one culprit - the iPod Updater 2006-01-10, as this was the only software I installed at the time both of my FireWire devices went down, avoid it like the plaque.

  • How to use the FP-DO-AC120 module on Field Point?

    Hi,
I am trying to use a FP-DO-AC120 (discrete output module) as a relay to switch of an equipment I control via Field Point 2000. This FP-DO-AC120 is connected to a FP-TB10 terminal base along with some other modules. When I try to use the “write” function on MAX (Measurement and Automation Explorer), it doesn’t allow me to do so and the “this item is read only” pops up. Checking the channel type to where the module is plugged in it shows that is a discrete input channel. I’ve tried to change it to a discrete output type, but when I do so, the status of that slot is “empty base or terminal”. I don’t understand what is going on here. Could anyone please advise?
    Thanks for the help.
    Adriana

    Adriana,
I found a similar discussion forum thread that addresses the same issue.
My FP-DO-AC120 module is being read as DI in FP Explorer, Why?
This is an older post, so keep in mind that all the functionality of FieldPoint Explorer is now included in MAX.

  • Help on field point subvi

Hi to all, sorry for not making things clear.
I'm designing a project about field point temperature control. This is my first time doing on field point so please help me as much as possible. thank you..I found an example of field point temperature control and some of the subvi are missing, i.e. FP open, read, write, and so on. also, this project is a turn on/off fan with a relay. however, i'm using three fans and it should turn on/off at different time depending on the set of temperature,,, for example, fan1 will turn on at 25 degree C and turn off at 30 degree C,,then Fan 2 will turn on at 35 and off at 40,,, and fan 3 will do the same at 45 and off at 50 degree C,,
Can one Thermo couple do the job or should i have all Three thermo couple.
    thank you in advance

    Hello nw,
I will try to address all of your questions in an organized manner.
    1.  To change the [c]FP-TC-120 readings from millivolts to degrees you
will need to use Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX).
                A.  Find your
FieldPoint controller under Remote Systems in MAX.
                B.  Right-click
on your controller and choose to Find Devices.
                C.  Then, a
dialog box will appear so you can name your FieldPoint controller.
                D.  You can use
the default name or re-name the controller yourself.  Click ok when you
    have named your controller.
                E.  This will display
all of the devices you have connected to your controller.
                F.  Click on the
[c]FP-TC-120 module and select the Channel Configuration Tab.
                G.  A Range option
will appear so you can change the measured range of the module to
degrees.  You can also define the thermocouple type on the Channel
    Configuration
              Tab.
    2.  If you want to turn on and off your heater and fan based on the
temperature, the example you found has the basic structure.  It will read
the temperature in via the FieldPoint Read.  You can replace the pid.vi
with a case structure to write different values to your relay module via the
    FieldPoint Write VI.
    3.  I am assuming that you are using a [c]FP-TC-120.  If this is
correct, you will be unable to measure the temperature via a thermistor.
The [c]FP-TC-120 is a thermocouple input module and only able to measure
    voltages and temperatures via thermocouples.
If you need further assistance, please provide a comprehensive list of the
    hardware you are using.
Also, I would recommend looking through the FieldPoint Help
which can be found at C:\Program Files\National
Instruments\FieldPoint\documentation\Online Help\fplv.chm.  If you are new
to LabVIEW, taking a look at this KnowledgeBase
Article that contains many LabVIEW learning resources.

  • No devices found?

Transitioning from iBook 10.3.9 to MacBook 10.4.8....most things came across seamlessly with Setup Assistant, but iSync is apparently not one of those.
Neither my iPod nor Plam will sync with iSync. Palm does its non-iSync things and iPod speaks to iTunes so I know the ports are working. When I do Add Device in iSync with both plugged in, i get an message back that says "No device found" - I've checkd all the prefs in iSync, and there aren't many....what am I missing?
    Thanks!
    MacBook 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

This isn't actually an iSync issue - it is an issue with the permissions profiles of the folders used by the HotSync Manager, which remains responsible for launching, supervising and terminating the synchronization of Palm devices with iSync.
The issue you are describing is actually one of the most common problem encountered with the Palm Desktop, HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor, and usually occurs as the result of electing to reinstall Mac OS X 10.x.x using an archive and install option. Here are two methods you can use to correct the issue:
Take a look at the permissions of the folders listed below. Your permissions for the folders listed below should appear as described below the pathname to that folder:
    For the Macintosh HD:Applications:Palm folder:
    Ownership & Permissions
    You can: Read & Write
    Details
    Owner: <shortusername>
    Access: Read & Write
    Group: admin
    Access: Read & Write
    Others: Read only
For the Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm Desktop folder:
    Ownership & Permissions
    You can: Read & Write
    Details
    Owner: <shortusername>
    Access: Read & Write
    Group: admin
    Access: Read & Write
    Others: Read only
For the Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:Palm HotSync folder:
    Ownership & Permissions
    You can: Read & Write
    Details
    Owner: <shortusername>
    Access: Read & Write
    Group: admin
    Access: Read & Write
    Others: Read only
You can either reset those values manually, [then restart and recheck them to be sure that they are set correctly] or use the Terminal application by typing these strings listed below this example—substituting your short user name—as shown below:
    sample: "sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Applications/Palm"
    actual: "sudo chown -R michaellafferty:admin /Applications/Palm"
…where michaellafferty is the <shortusername> in my case. Be sure to pay attention to the spaces in each string, and the direction of the / or \ [forward and back slash] characters.
Here are the appropriate Terminal entries. Each is is shown bulleted below, but actually begins with the term sudo:
    • sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Applications/Palm
[NOTE: at this point, you'll be asked to enter your login password]
    • sudo chmod -R 775 /Applications/Palm
    • sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ HotSync/
    • sudo chmod -R 775 /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ HotSync/
    • sudo chown -R <shortusername>:admin /Library/Application\ Support/Palm\ Desktop/
