Fields in PDF form are blank: Another Preview question...

So I get that filling out a form in Preview can create a problem where the end user cannot see the info in those fields unless they click on them.  But I have some additional questions:
1. Is just viewing a PDF in Preview without making any changes enough to cause this problem?
2. Is it only Windows users reporting this problem or are Mac users having it as well (when trying to view it in Acrobat or Reader)?
Here's why I ask:  We created this form but send it out to clients to fill in and return.  I sometimes view these returned forms in Preview because the info loads faster than it does in Acrobat.   No issues there.  But with one form in particular that we received today, anyone trying to subsequently open the form in Acrobat is having a problem.  It seems to be just this form that is causing the problem.  I'm not sure what the client used to fill it out, but they sent back other forms that don't seem to be a problem, so it seems unlikely this one would have been filled out using a different tool from the others.
Also it appears that Mac users AND Windows users are having issues seeing the fields in this form properly filled out.  Heretofore, I've only read of Windows users having this problem.
Any insight would be appreciated -- thanks!

A form has to be saved in Preview in order for it to be corrupted, not merely opened. What OS is used when opening a corrupted PDF in Reader/Acrobat doesn't matter.

  • PDF's are blank in Preview

I hope this is an appropriate place to post this question...
I have come across some PDF files that when opened in Preview are blank. The number of pages will be correct, but each page is blank. I can open these PDF's just fine using Adobe's Acrobat Reader, however I prefer to use Preview for its speed and simplicity. Does anyone have any idea why some PDF's are blank when opened using Preview? I want to note that one of the PDF's that I tried to open recently did not have anything special about (no forms, no extra JavaScript), it was just a plain old PDF. Any ideas?

  • The pre filled fields from downloaded pdf forms are blank; e.g.; prefilled pdf forms from insurance companies.

I download pre filled pdf claim forms from the web site of my insurance company. The fields are not pre filled with my personnal data ( name, address, etc) like it is supposed to. Furthermore, I cannot even type my own data in the blank fields. All of this works all right with another browser.

The new built-in PDF viewer does not have the capability to do fill-in forms. Development is still underway on enhancements to the PDF viewer.
In the meantime, you will need a PDF application that can do fill-in forms (Adobe Reader and Foxit Reader are 2 free PDF applications that can fill-in PDF forms).
*You have Adobe Reader 9.3.4 installed, but it is a very old version and needs to be updated due to security issues.
    *Check your Plugins - https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
*Info about Adobe Reader - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-adobe-reader-plugin-view-or-download-pdf-files?esab=a&s=pdf&r=0&as=s#os=winxp&browser=fx19
You can change Firefox settings to use another application's plugin to fill-in forms in Firefox instead of using the built-in PDF viewer as a default. Here's how to do that - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/disable-built-pdf-viewer-and-use-another-viewer

  • Fields in returned PDF form are blank unless clicked.

I see several references to this issue, which have lead me here:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/885/cpsid_88564.html
    and here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/pdfdevjunkie/2009/11/script_to_fix_mac_osx_previewa.html
These sites offer a script that needs to be installed, but the question I have is installed where? On the computer that makes the forms? On the computer(s) (different from the origin) that receive the forms?
Also, maybe I am unobservant, but I cannot find a way to add to a discussed/answered question, hence I am asking this again, even though I have seen other responses.
    Thanks,

The script is intended to go on the computer(s) that receive the forms. But if the person who receives the forms has Acrobat and the original blank form, it is better to export the form data from the damaged form and import it into the blank form, for a number of reasons.

  • InDesign equivalent of LiveCycle's "Image Field" in PDF form creation?

LiveCycle has a PDF form field called "Image Field". We add this field to the PDF files we create so that our end users can select and import a JPEG image into their PDF document using Adobe Reader.
Now we would like to use InDesign to produce the same PDF form files as an alternative to using LiveCycle. Does InDesign have a PDF form field like LiveCycle's "Image Field"? We haven't found it yet.
In other words, does someone know in InDesign how to create a field in PDF forms which has the same functionality as LiveCycle's "Image Field"? LiveCycle's field works in enabled Adobe Reader files, and permits JPEG format, among others.
    Thank you,
    Kevin
P.S. We discovered a way to create PDF forms in Adobe Acrobat Pro XI with similar functionality by using JavaScript, but the Acrobat Pro created documents only permit Adobe Reader to import PDF files, not JPEG or other image formats. So Adobe Acrobat Pro XI was not a viable alternative to LiveCycle for creating our PDF files. We'd like to know if we need to rule out InDesign, too.

It's worth separating out the different responsibilities and products.
Whether a functionality exists in Reader depends on the Acrobat team. Reader, being free, is limited by design, the aim of the design being to sell copies of Acrobat. Obviously, Reader can't make PDFs or do preflighting. Less obviously, there are a bunch of JavaScript functions that don't work. Sometimes, with Reader enabling, more functions become available. (There are different kinds of Reader enabling, some of which need very expensive extra products).
Whether a form capability exists at all is largely down to the PDF specification (now an ISO standard) or the XFA specification. Adobe can choose to go beyond the specification but largely choose not to.
So, the InDesign team can make form fields, not because the Acrobat team approves, but because the way this is done is written down in the PDF Specification. InDesign _could_ choose to make XFA forms, but thank goodness that will never happen.
So, if you want InDesign forms to do something you first have to ask: can Acrobat forms to this. NOT XFA (LIveCycle forms) which are done by a different team to different rules. So far as I know Acrobat forms cannot do the sort of thing you want; that is, placing arbitrary graphics, but in certain circumstances they can place PDF files.
    Why make the distinction?
    - If Acrobat can make forms that do this, then so can InDesign: it's worth asking the InDesign people to do it.
    - If Adobe limit Adobe Reader, there is no use asking the InDesign team to solve this.
    - If Acrobat can't make forms that do this, then nor can InDesign.

  • PDF documents are blank but epub documents are not

    Hello All;
I have an install of ACS 4. Installed on the following.
    Linux version 2.6.28.1-xxxx-std-ipv4-32 ([email protected]) (gcc version 4.3.2 (Debian 4.3.2-1) ) #2 SMP Fri Jan 30 09:55:02 UTC 2009
I have a production license and I am able to fulfill books - both epub and PDF.
However, when I attempt to download/view the books in Adobe Digital Editions, the PDF files are blank. I should mention that the PDF files that are blank, are PDFs that I grabbed from public domain sites (archive.org). The epub documents that I grabbed from the same source, work find in Adobe Digital Editions.
I would also add that the sample books that are included with Adobe Content Server work just fine. So, I am to assume that there is something 'wrong' with the PDFs that I have.
Anyone see this before? Anyone know where I could look for answers?
    Thanks much.
    Glen

Digital Editions supports essentially the PDF/A profile (plus some extras see the FAQ at http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/faq/ for the full list).   The most commonly noticed thing that is missing compared to the current PDF 1.7 spec is JPEG2000 support.
What happens when you view these files in Digital Editions before your package them?

    Hi,
Is Reader, ACF (client side) and your ADS (server side) installed and properly configured?
For the ACF, check SAP note # 766191.

  • PDF attachments are blank.

I have been composing and sending emails with pdf attachments for years through my gmail account with no problems...in the last few days, my customers are all complaining that the pdf files are blank.  All the pages send, but they have nothing on them.  I have been double checking before hitting send, and everything is fine.  I go to my sent items and the pdf's are indeed blank.  It is quite frustrating.

  • Export PDF converts filled PDF form without the data - Turns filled PDF form onto blank Word doc. Is there a solution to this or did Adobe just sell me a service that doesn't work?

Export PDF converts filled PDF form without the data - Turns filled PDF form onto blank Word doc. Is there a solution to this or did Adobe just sell me a service that doesn't work?

ExportPDF is not for forms. In general, converting forms to Word is a really, really bad idea which can even cause legal problems. Work with the form as a PDF. Acrobat (not Reader) can export form data as simple text for example.

  • How do I set blank data to date field in pdf form ?

    Dear Sir,
I made PDF form by Acrobat X on Windows PC and then,
read the pdf form by acrobat reader on iPad.
Date field  is included in the form.
The Acrobat version is 10.1.6 .
The acrobat reader version is 10.5.0 .
First, I put the wrong date data to the date field.
So, I tried to clear the date field.
I want to put the blank data to the date, but I think
there are no way to put the blank data on iPad
I would like to know how to reset the date data.
If that helps, I tried to the same thing on Android.
I could put blank data to the date field by BS key.
    Sincerely,

Here is how to clear the Date field on the Ipad.
NOTE: In order for this to work that has to be another TEXT field in the PDF to get the keyboard to pop-up.
Click on Text field (this is to get the regular keyboard on screen)
Click on Date field (date spinner control will show up)
Click on SAME DATE field (spinner control will disapper)
Click on "Reset Field" on top of keyboard (date field will now be empty)
Click any where on PDF that is not another Date field (keyboard will disappear and date field will be empty)
    Bingo! your free and clear.

  • Saved PDF form opens blank on another workstation

I have a weird problem I have been unable to resolve. On one pc I have acrobat 6 pro. On another PC I have acrobat 7 standard and on the last pc I have acrobat 9 standard. I have a PDF form that we have been using for the last couple of years that was created in acrobat 6 pro. it is running with no security and you can saved the completed form with no problem. When I open it up on the acrobat 6 pro pc all the text i typed in in the form appears. when I open the same file on the acrobat 7 or 9 pc's the text i typed in is missing. I have been unable to find an answer to this problem and would appreciate any input anyone might have.

No reader is not installed on any of these systems. I could not see any problems with this form either but that form I posted actually is one of the completed forms yet it too is empty. I even went to a friends location and opened it with his copy of acrobat and it to was missing all the text filled in fields.
