FIery plugin causing applications to freeze

I have a Mac running 10.5.8 that I have installed a new Konica Minolta C280, Fiery IC-412 on. Basic printing works fine. In order to access account track you have to access the Fiery plugin. When you click the plugin whatever application your in freezes. This is only happening on one of the Mac's, the other 9 work fine. Is there a way to troubleshoot just a Mac printing plugin?

One problem we had with our Fiery controllers is that if the plugin was still written for PPC Mac's, then it wouldn't work correctly on an Intel Mac. The solution was to get a Universal Binary version of the driver, which had updated plugins.
If you are already using a UB version of driver, then the plugins are often located in the vendors folder; HD > Library > Printers. Not sure if you will need to look for a KM folder or something related to EFI, the makers of Fiery RIPs. Inside should be a PDEs folder (which stands for Print Dialog Extensions) and inside this folder will be the Fiery plugins. If you do a Get Info on the plugins, you can also confirm if they are Universal rather than PPC.
One other thing that may help. Try running a repair disk permissions. This is accessed via Disk Utility.

  • Printing causes application to freeze

When I try to print from my Macbook the application I am trying to print from freezes and I have to "Force Quit" it to get the Macbook to respond.(I have previously had the Macbook printing via my desktop Mac and wifi network)
The System Profiler shows no printers in the printer area.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    DaddyPayCheck,
    Thanks for the reply.
I am using an Epsom Stylus Printer through my desktop iMac. All applications freeze when I try to print from them (even emails).
The "System Profiler" under Printers shows no printers found, although I have reinstalled the software a couple of times.
It has worked in the past but I think may have started with this problem after updating NeoOffice.
    Cheers.

  • All things related to printing causing applications to freeze

I would love to uninstall my printer and reinstall it, however when I try to access Print & Fax from System Preferences, it locks up and I have to Force Quit. When trying to print from any application, the application freezes and I have to Force Quit. Help!

Next on the list is to do an Archive & Install, saving user and network settings. See http://www.apple.com/support/leopard/install/ for details.

What causes for an application to freeze during install?  and how do I fix it

helloWorld pretty much said it all.
When I'm looking for problems like that nothing beats a good trace file. Also don't dismiss the idea of programmer stupidity (of the one that developed the app), I've ran across code where exceptions where caught and nothing done about it, just let thing run merrily along again. The cause is usually farther back in the trace than the point it hangs or appears to start having problems.

  • Downloading itunes causes computer to freeze because of high computer usage...how do i fix it?

downloading itunes causes computer to freeze because of high computer usage...how do i fix it?

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • My Applications keep Freezing - Brand New Mid-2010 iMac.  Please Help

Hello - I am extremely frustrated because I just received my brand new iMac in the mail (27" i7 2.93GHZ / 2 TB HD / 4GB 2x2 SDRAM) and my applications keep freezing.
Let me give an example -
I keep trying to open iPhoto so that I can import and export photos from my other Mac and my iPhone. Just about any time I do any big upload, the whole iPhoto freezes on me and I have to force quit.
Another example (the one that is bugging me most right now): I am trying to paste 3 pages of text into a word document in Microsoft Word, and every time I attempt to do this, Word freezes.
I understand these are both rather minor in the grand scheme of things, but I just got this fricken thing and I'm hoping I can take some measure to avoid my applications freezing... Do I not have enough memory for running these simple day-to-day tasks? I was thinking about buying 2x 4GB OWC memory to make my computer 12GB instead of 4GB. Please help - I'd love to hear any opinions. Should I take it in? Or is it a simple fix? Even when I first booted my computer there was lag getting the introduction information to load.

    Dang...
I was hopeful that this would have solved the problem. Unfortunately, it must be a software problem of some sort. I reset my PRAM(?) and did the disk utility cleanup or whatever it is called. I do appreciate you giving your 2 cents. Does anybody else have any ideas? Microsoft Office is still freezing up when I try to paste something from the internet -- Oddly enough, it isn't happening when I'm posting text from some websites, but is from others. The firewall is turned off, so I don't think its a security issue. Please help! I need some way to put my academic transcript in a word file so that I can email it for reference, so this is kind of urgent! Thank you.
Should I try a software update?

  • Many applications keep freezing on me/ external hardrive

I have an ibook g4 running Mac OS 10.3.9. I have a 30 gb hard drive with 6 gb of space remaining. I have already downloaded the application "what size" to find out where most of my hard drive space is going-- itunes. Itunes (and nearly all of the applications I use photoshop, safari, firefox, ichat, finder, word) freeze on me when I try to do something about it. This freezing is happening very regularly. I am hoping to free up more space on my hard drive by "consolidating my library" onto a 350 gb external hard drive by Seagate. However, when ever I try to do this on itunes, itunes always freezes and I have to force quit, or if I'm lucky it will freeze for a little bit and tell me "copying music failed. the disk could not be read from or written to."
So I guess my questions are these: is there any way to make 10.3.9 less "cranky"and to know why so many applications are freezing on me? One application is only 3.8 mg big and isn't very processer demanding, but it still won't let me even open it. Opening the applications from my back up on the external drive can occasional bide me some "unfrozen" time, but it's slow and inconvienent. Is there a better way to get my itunes to the external hard drive? (If I try to copy and paste itunes into the seagate, finder freezes.)
Right now upgrading is not an option. Thank you for any one who read all of this!

I just did very much the same thing, because I had very much the same problem, though with a G5. What sort of hard drive do you have (how does it coneect to your iBook?) I plug mine in with USB. I didn't try to copy iTunes as a whole to my external, what I did was go to MacHD>User>Music>iTunes>iTunes Copy THAT folder, it will move all your music without trying to put an application on an HD that has no OS. If it still won't copy to your XHD, have you formatted it for Mac? It sounds like you have already moved some stuff to it, so I am assuming so, but if not, go to disk utility (with the XHD plugged in and happening) in Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility and format it there. I would give you more step by step, however, my disk utility just froze along with Firefox, which won't even FQ. I have had it up to my ear lobes with this annoying crap.
Once I had my XHD formatted to Mac, I moved everything on to it from the system folder and user library folder, all my mailboxes individually, all my music (not apps, just music and mailboxes), and everything I wanted to keep. It took a few days, because the computer was liking to freeze up, but I got it done. Then I did a full out erase and reinstall the OS, without losing everything. I was not able to install the OS on the external, because apparently you can not boot up from an external HD with my system, although maybe some set ups you can. Because there is no OS on the XHD, I cannot move applicatinos to it, but I have all my upgrade .pkg's stored there, and I back up all my files regularly (mailboxes, calendars, music, documents) in case I should need to do it again. I have had to reinstall my software 4 times in the last year, I kid you not, and 3 of them were about a month ago. It is nice to have the back up of an XHD. Now Firefox has left me and won't Force Quit, and Disk Utility won't even admit that it is not responding!
    Good Luck!!

  • Applications randomly freeze for a few seconds?!

    Hi guys,
I have had nothing but trouble with this most recent iMac I purchased 4 months ago. It's the 24" described in my profile. AppleCare came out and recently replaced my faulty HDD, and put a 500gb Hitachi in (replacing 500gb Seagate).
Anyway, for no reason, after a fresh install and all the updates, applications will freeze for a few seconds and show the spinning beach ball- doesn't matter what application (Wow, Safari, Quicktime, Skype, Adium, etc.)- anything! I can see in activity monitor that there is a spike in the disk activity at the time, but cannot explain why. It's a brand new hard-drive! Interestingly, there is no corresponding jump in CPU or RAM access, so it's obviously some kind of data-dump issue with the HDD....the new HDD...
Looking in Activity Monitor, it appears to be the data read/sec that is spiking.
This is extremely frustrating, and I thought the new HDD would solve this, but apparently not. I don't particularly wish to reinstall OSX, and AppleCare in Australia is shut at the moment (midnight)
Does anyone know of a solution, or why it's happening?
I never had ANY of these problems with my first 24" that I bought late last year, with stock everything (hdd, gfx, etc.)....I feel like this one is faulty by nature....
    Thanks!
EDIT: http://forums.mactalk.com.au/showthread.php?t=36763 shows my original HDD issue with the previous HDD....you can see this *****

It has to be the HDD. Calling Apple in the morning...
Sound like that could be a HDD problem. One way to confirm it is to look at the Console application from your Utilities folder. Look at the System Log and Console Log and see if you see any lines with text like "disk0s2: I/O error." at the times when you see the freezes and hear the clicks. Note that the numbers in the disk0s2 part can change, depending on how your drives are set up.

    Thanks, Charles.
Looking at the Console log, it doesn't seem to have any i/o errors. Since both logs are quite lengthy, and the quoting system here is a bit akward, I've linked them:
    Console.log: http://www.miraclesalad.com/webtools/clip.php?clip=e04
    System.log: http://www.miraclesalad.com/webtools/clip.php?clip=e06
Couldn't really see anything there, but have a look if you'd like. Looking forward to calling Apple Support today and finding out what the deal is...only just got this new HDD put in!

  • Using Mavericks Spelling and Grammar in Pages document causes Pages to freeze. Must Force Quit. Mavericks spell checker works OK in Text and Emails. How can I fix this problem?

Using Mavericks' Spelling and Grammar in a Pages document causes Pages to freeze, Must Force Quit. How can I fix this problem?
Mavericlks Spelling and Grammar works in Pages when used manually. And it works automatically in Text and email.

    Another autocorrect bug:
I type a lot of lyrics, which tend to cotain words like ’cause and ’em instead of because and them.
I've set up autocorrect instances to change a plain apostrophe with an ending, single curly quote for these words, but they are invariably changed to a beginning, single curly quote mark by Pages. The only way I can get the correct curly quote is to type over the wrong quote manually and hope that I don't have to edit the rest of the word again, as this would cause autocorrect to kick in again and change the quote to the wrong, beginning curly mark again.
Does anyone know how to get around this tedious problem?

  • Browse animation effects causing Bridge to freeze

Every time I select browse effects from the animation menu, Adobe Bridge launches (as expected).
When I navigate to the "Text/Blurs" folder and open it, Bridge freezes.
I know I can add an effect to my text without resorting to Bridge, but I'm following
Adobe's Classroom in a box and selecting this method to preview an effect is
    causing Bridge to freeze.

Make sure your AE and your Bridge are up to date. There was a problem in earlier builds. Also, the Animation Effects previews in Bridge are resource intensive little buggers. Make sure that you have allocated an even number of MB of ram to other apps and you're not starving your system. If you only have 8 GB give 4 to other apps and 4 to AE, if you have 16 then you can give 4 to others and 12 to AE.

  • QuickTime X plugins causing problems?

Still after trying to export videos from QuickTime X they appear as a black screen with no audio.
Could it be any of these plugins causing a problem?
    Plugins:
    AC3MovieImport
    AppleAVCIntraCodec
    AppleHDVCodec
    AppleIntermediateCodec
    AppleMPEG2Codec
    AppleProResCodec
    DivX Decoder
    DivX Encoder
    DVCPROHDCodec
    FCP Uncompressed 422
    IMXCodec
    MayaIFF
    Perian
I'm trying to export using QuickTime X presets with a variaty of different source files, but nothing uncommon.

So removing either Perian or DivX should resolve the problem?
It may or may not fix your particular problem—but, it would remove one possible source of conflict. Frankly, many people are experiencing "black" screen issues with the problem being blamed on everything from conflicts with installed hardware devices to issues with security updates to problems with FCP file output. Since you did not provide any work flow specifics, it is difficult to classify your particular problem.

  • My MacBook freezes occasionally...is there a way to bring it out of frozen?  What would be causing it to freeze?

My MacBook freezes @ least once a week.  I have to shut it down.  What might be causing it to freeze & is there another way to bring it out of frozen other than shutting it down?

Not enough free space on the disk can cause the system to freeze...
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space
Check the startup disk in case it needs repairing >  Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.5)  <  your profile
If that is correct, when you can, you need to update to v10.6.8
Updates are available from your Apple menu > Software Update...
Not enough RAM can cause the operating system to freeze also. You may want to consider increasing memory. To see how much memory you have installed click your Apple menu icon then click About This Mac. That will prompt the System Profiler. See Memory under Hardware on the left.

  • Mounted Drives Cause Applications to Hang on Connection Change

When I change from wired to wireless connection to my network (or vice versa) mounted volumes seem to cause applications using those volumes to hang. This happens when going from wired to wireless, or vice versa, and happens regardless of the path (wired + wireless -> wired; wireless -> nothing -> wireless; wireless -> wired, etc.). Affected applications do not recover until the original connection is restored. Un-mounting all Volumes before switching prevents this problem. This problem causes the Finder to hang if an unmount or browse of a mounted volume is attempted after the switch.
(All volumes are on the same network on the same workgroup as the affected Mac. Wireless is via an AirPort Express connected to the same router as the Mac.)
    MacBook Pro (15.4"- 2.33GHz - 3 GB - 160 GB)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   (Macintosh 128k, long ago)

Well, maybe Windows has a hook to explicitly "turn off" a network interface, which shuts down the TCP connections; and maybe OS X doesn't have this.
It should be "a long time" (on the order of 10 minutes), not forever.
I think that unmounting prior to the switch is the only way to prevent this. If there is another way, it probably involves using ifconfig in Terminal to force the old interface down (which might explicitly tell TCP to give up on the old connections).
