Fiery XP250

Having problems printing on Fiery XP25 rip (Xerox 250).

You could extract the ppd from the 10.4 DVD using the utility Pacifist.

• How do I create a custom preset in my print window? I want to permanently turn off 2-sided printing under the Fiery Features?

At my office I work on a mac, I print to a Canon C5240, my print dirver is current (Canon iR-ADV C5200s-B2 psv1.ous). We just got this new computer at our office and it defaults to 2-sided printing.
The cannon people said we need change our printer setting on our sever to single sided printing, our IT guy says we have. However, we still continue to get all prints 2-sided.
The only way we've been able to get around this is when we are in the print dialog: manually changing the page setting > Fiery Features > and turning off 2-sided printing-- every time. It's so frustrating.
Is there a way to save this preset rather then have it always revert back to the default print settings?
PLEASE HELP!

Hello,
Click on the Presets dropdown item, choose save as Default, Save As, or Maybe just Save depending on OS version.

• Canon iR C3220 with EFI Fiery C1 Unit

Hi,
This is driving me crazy, I am trying to be able to print A3 on the aboe printer.
First I had to learn about the iR C1 unit and finally got some drivers for it and not the Canon ones.
This is what I have done.
I am assuming I have the C1 unit because when I login to the web interface it says Canon Fiery WebTools Printer_Unit-C1
so I Installed the Canon iR C1 v2-1 Driver
Added a new Printer via IP, use HP Direct Socket as the option, entered in the Ip address and a meaningful name
Choose the Driver "Canon CLC-iR C3200-C1 PS v2.1"
Now I can print A4 no worries.
When I select A3 in page setup of say Microsoft Word and print, the page comes out on A4 not A3
The only Driver optins I get are "Sorter and Stapler" which I have none
and Paper Deck (I think I have none I only have 2 trays)
I have also just now tried the Canon iR PS v3-20 driver which has more optins but same issue.
Surely there is something stupid I am missing?
then once I get this Mac working (OS 10.5.8) then I need to get a 10.6.4 working as well I assume its a different driver again

Since you definitely have the imagePASS-C1, the WebTools page appearing in the web browser proves it, then the driver you are using is close to the mark, although you mentioned 3220 in the heading but state that you selected the 3200 PPD, so I would open the Print & Fax > Options & Supplies > Driver tab and change to the 3220-C1 PPD.
With the correct model selected I would try opening all the paper cassettes (might need to do this after hours) and then send a print job set as A3 to the copier. What you should see on the copier touch panel is a message to load a particular paper size and possibly a particular tray. I am expecting that the message will show to load A3 but in cassette 1 or 3 which does not normally support A3.

• Acrobat Pro 8 Printing Problems with Xerox 252 Fiery

printer: Xerox 252 with Fiery Controller
Software: Acrobat Pro 8
OS: WinXp pro
The problem occurs when I am printing a binder that consists of 8x11 and 11x17's. The printer locks up and does not print. We have had the Xerox techs come out but after numerous trouble shooting efforts we came to a conclusion that there is an issue with Acrobat 8.
Also, in order to print an 8x11 or 11x17 there is a need to go through and set the file size for each time we print. The check box "print by pdf source size" is checked and we are still having problems.
I've had no issue with Acrobat 7 and the problems I'm having are with Acrobat pro 8.

Correction it's a Xerox Docucolor 242 PS with Fiery

• Strange Output From CS3 to Fiery printers

When we output from Indesign CS3 we get a couple of strange issues to our fiery and one new issue just started with our Harlequin RIP.
When printing a multi page document to the Fiery's (5 Different ones) sometimes page 1 will be oriented correctly and all of the other pages will be rotated on the sheet and cut off. Also when I go to make changes through command workstation to change duplex settings, image shift etc. It's a crapshoot if it will work on Indesign files. This has been happening with all iterations of Leopard.
When printing to the Harlequin using a preset envelope template the file is oriented wrong. It doesn't matter if we put the sizes in manually or how we set the orientation in the print window it's wrong. This has been happening for a few weeks.
Curretly we are on 10.5.5

Sorry I wasn't clear. The rips are the print servers. They are hooked to a variety of printers Xerox, Konica, Canon and Presstek. The problem is when I send the file and preview it at the RIP. The problems are also there when I output the files from the Rip to the printers.
The Fiery Problem is ocuring on several different Fiery RIPS each connected to it's own printer. We only have on Harlequin RIP and Device so I'm not sure how widespread it is. The problems do not exist if I send PDF's or other native files such as quark.

• UNABLE TO PRINT TO TOSHIBA FIERY COPIER AFTER 10.6 UPGRADE

I have upgraded my OS to 10.6 and in doing so the OS has killed my printer.
I am printing to a high end Fiery Toshiba e-studio311c.
For those not familiar, a fiery is a rip device, when your Mac prints to it, the desktop printer spools to the Fiery Server, where it prints out directly and then goes into a queue. I didn't have any problems printing on 10.4..
My dedicated rip software which allows me to view and connect to the Toshiba server is still working fine. I KNOW it is not the printer server. I can login and reprint old archived jobs.
The new setup is a joke. I have re-added and reinstalled all my fiery software.
The PPD Drivers I have are old but the most up-to-date.
I have re-setup the printer in both IPP and LPD neither way matters.
If I select the proper PPD the the error I get is
"Connected to printer…"
"Network host '192.168.1.195' is busy; will retry in 20 seconds…"
It never completes.
If I select the "Generic CMYK" PPD the the error I get is
Status: ERROR
"The printer software was installed incorrectly."
"Please reinstall the printer’s software or contact the manufacturer for assistance."
I have called tech support to Apple - Each time I felt like I was getting my teeth pulled. The technicians were like reading from scripts and the solutions offered were, " oh just go back and reinstall 10.4 and be mindful to do a full erase "
* extend finger * When I asked to be promoted up the tech support ladder I got transferred to another tech (let's lean over to the cube next to us and see if he notices I give him the same lame answers * chuckle chuckle *. This tech gave me the same answers and directed me here
I called Toshiba, which referred me to to the people who sold me the copier,
They shrugged.
I called Toshiba again, they referred me to their electronic devices division, who referred me to their copier division, which referred me to to the people who sold me the copier, which referred me to to some other division of Toshiba's.
These people were of no help and said we are waiting on EFI - They referred me to Toshiba's PR company, who referred me to Fiery's public relations answering machine. No answers and I don't expect any.
I think this whole mess is directly related to the abandonment of Appletalk in 10.6. Snow tiger needs a warning label on the box. "Warning, blood you see is the 100% magenta from your printer."
At this point, I ask you my internet friends - Any advice? I need work around solutions.

Hi there.
I have several Canon devices that are using Fiery RIPs (albeit on Canon's they are called imagePASS and imagePRESS). Names aside, I have found that there are a number of limitations with the Fiery drivers on 10.6.
The first is that the driver installer requires Rosetta to be installed on the Mac. If you simply added the printer by browsing to the PPD, then there is a chance that the plugins referenced in the PPD are not present on your Mac and will cause problems with certain printing functions. So, I would suggest that if there is an installer for your model of Fiery, then run that installer but beware that your Mac may need to connect to the Internet to download Rosetta. Alternatively, you can manually add Rosetta by running the Optional Installs package located on your Snow Leopard DVD.
With the driver installed correctly, the error about the software not being installed correctly is due to a permissions error with the cups filter folder. EFI have posted an update that can resolve this error message, providing your RIP is running System 6. A Config page will confirm this under the System Info heading. You can download the CUPS filter update from EFI via this link.
Regarding the use of LPD, the Fiery's often require a queue name of print (and it must be entered in lower case). If you do not enter the queue name correctly then you can get the busy errors you mention in your post.
If you were using AppleTalk previously, you would have seen the print queue advertised and probably the direct and hold queues also. As for IPP, I never had much success with using this as a protocol. Personally I prefer HP Jetdirect-Socket (which connects to RAW Port 9100 on the Fiery). This is typically what Windows queues will default to and can be a more stable connection than LPD.
To end this reply, I suggest you go easy on Apple support. These folks aren't trained on network printer setups or issues but then they should not have to be. Toshiba should be providing you with your support and if they cannot then take it up with their management. It is not good enough to shrug shoulders and cry poor. If they cannot help, then tell them you are taking your business elsewhere. The wheel that squeaks always gets the best support...
One last thing. Get your head out of the past and stop crying for AppleTalk. It always amuses me that people want the latest operating system but then want support for outdated protocols and products. AppleTalk was rubbish on large networks. Yes it allowed you to see the printer on the network but it never happily co-existed in an IP-based network and was often the cause of lost connections.
We can't fear change....

• Fiery features : image shift not available

my office recently changed printers to a canon imagepress C1+ and i upgraded to a new computer running 10.6.3. we have downloaded and installed the latest driver from canon.
the "full properties" glitch is mentioned at in this forum thread, as is a workaround. however, for some reason *image shift* is NOT in the list of features i can add to the +quick access+ pane.
this is an important feature from the user end, as we need to print double-sided and this corrects the placement of the second side. any suggestions welcome.

There are two EFI (Fiery) RIPS available for the imagePRESS C1+. There is the imagePRESS-T1/T2 and the imagePRESS-Q1/Q2. The 1 indicates that the RIP is using system v1.x while the 2 indicates the RIP is running system v2.x. For the imagePRESS-Q2 and imagePRESS-T2, there is a now a 10.6 driver available that does not suffer the same restrictions as the 10.5 driver. You can download this driver via the following link...
http://www.usa.canon.com/opd/controller?act=OPDSoftwareAct&fcategoryid=2478&mode lid=17921
If you are using a T1, then you can download the 10.6 driver via the following link...
http://www.usa.canon.com/opd/controller?act=OPDSoftwareAct&fcategoryid=2478&mode lid=14778
Note that if you have a Q1 or T1, ie it is running system v1.x, then you will need to get the firmware on the RIP updated by a service technician to v2.x so that you can use this driver.

• Konica c351 with fiery not working in Leopard

Hi,
We have a konica c351 with a fiery controller. Konica says they will not update leopard drivers for this machine. Any ideas?

If there is Universal Binary versions of the Fiery driver available, you can use them on Leopard, even if they don't say they are supported. However, if there is only a PPC driver available, then you may have problems with the plugins not working correctly. But, if you don't make use of the services provided by these plugins, then you copy the ppd for the RIP into Leopard and use it.
Most of the EFI (Fiery) installers have the ppd available separately and typically located in the language folder, such as English. If you find the ppd, copy it to /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj. (Note that if you need to copy the ppd from a Tiger installation the path above is where you would find the relevant ppd).
Once you have the ppd copied into this folder you can then create a IP printer using LPD/LPR, input the IP address and queue name (important for Fiery controllers) and then open the Print using menu, select Other and search the list for the RIP. Click Add once found to complete the installation.

• Slow comm. to new Fiery rip from G5

We have two G5 double 1.8GHz ppc processor macs, running system 10.4.11 and Adobe CS3-package.
When printing from these computers to our EFI Fiery rips, v. pro80 s450, the communication is unbearably slow.
Unfortunately, like with all printers when printing from Acrobat, one must first enter "Page Setup" Diaolog--which uses appr. 20-30 seconds--to enter correct page size and printer.
That done, one must enter the print dialog, which would use another 20-30 seconds to choose the right printer, and maybe the same to get access to the printers’ settings.
The slow speed seems to be just as slow when using appletalk, smb or ip-printing.
It seems to be be partly an issue about the level of the Fiery Rip, since the older rips we have used aren’t that slow. But I guess this might also be something about ppc vs intel? Is there anything we can do?

Hi hallbi, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I'm no expert, don't have the Fiery rip, and can't find out much about it either.
How exactly are the Macs connected to it?
Unfortunately, like with all printers when printing from Acrobat, one must first enter "Page Setup" Diaolog--which uses appr. 20-30 seconds--to enter correct page size and printer.
Is this step really necessary? Can't you go directly to Print & choose a Preset?
But I guess this might also be something about ppc vs intel?
I'm thinking not, at this point anyway. I'm thinking it's our connection, but what size are these PDFs?
Might be interesting to open Activity Monitor and try to observe by the use of the different tabs at the bottom to catch a bit of where the slowest part is.
Is there anything we can do?
I bet there is, even if it only happens by attracting a real expert to your topic!

• Indesign CC 2014 crashes when printing to Fiery server

This is to remind Adobe that issues printing to Fiery print servers from Indesign CC 2014 (10.0 or 10.1) on Mac have not been resolved.
A patch has been provided here: InDesign & Illustrator | Crash while printing to Fiery RIP | MacOS   --- however, the problem persists after patching. I should note that the fix at that link only pertains to Indesign 10.0. If you download Indesign 2014 from Creative Cloud you would, at this time, receive 10.1. That script will break 10.1 completely. There is no fix for 10.1.
The original thread for this discussion is here: Indesign CC 2014 crashes when printing   It's marked 'Answered' and methinks the ongoing conversation there has been over-looked.
I am bumping this topic to keep the conversation fresh. If anyone else has found solutions to printing to Fiery from Indesign 10.x either by updating Fiery directly or with additional scripts or workarounds, please share them here.
I could publish one of my 10.1 crash logs if I could be advised which pieces are most important, or how to post the unabridged without spamming the forum.
That's the constructive bit. Here's my rant...
After speaking to Adobe on the phone, they tell me this isn't resolved yet because it affects only a small subset of people. I called some peers at other agencies across my region and learned they all use Indesign with Fiery servers. We are not an isolated few! (those fortunate individuals I spoke to are still using CS6 -- and I received some jovial ribbing for having my on-going CC subscription.) I have a lot of printing to do on the Fiery now that these projects are finishing, but i'm held up while down-saving these projects to be used in CC (9.x). Its frustrating, its time-consuming, and its simply unacceptable to CC subscribers as we move in to 2015. I urge Adobe to work with EFI to solve this problem once and for all.

• Is there a download for Mavericks to work with Epson printer using EFI Fiery 4.5Xpress?

Working with OS 10.9.1, we've purchased the Fiery 4.5 Xpress software for the Epson Stylus Pro 4900, when trying to send a PDF to the printer, I keep getting a "Not supported" error. Is there a patch to fix this incompatibility?

Not from Apple. It would have to come from Epson. Consult their tech support.

• Ricoh Aficio MP C5000 FIERY

We'er about to purchase a Ricoh Aficio MP C5000 with the FIERY RIP accessory, finisher and collate/staple options.
I've looked at the Ricoh site, and to my dismay, they only have a PPD for this copier/printer that does not address the options that we need. Our service reps for Ricoh are a little less forward with the information we need, so I thought I'd ask here.
We're using 10.6.4, 64bit mode and running Adobe CS5 in 64bit. We need PANTONE color matching, poster printing, saddle stitching, folding, collating, stapling and bindery capabilities (for pamphlets and programs).
Does anyone have experience with this color copier, FIERY and operations that might point me in the right direction? My decision makers are all PC users, so they don't understand the

We use Fiery controllers with our Canon copiers. We don't have CS5 yet but we are printing from CS4 and can use all finishing functions. The Fiery driver does have a number of plugins to support the extended features of the RIP and copier. While a PPD could provide you with most of the features you mention I would expect that EFI (the makers of Fiery RIPs) would have provided Ricoh with an extended driver with plugins to support the additional copier features. If you know the model of the Fiery they will be including with the Ricoh then you could check the [EFI website|www.efi.com] for a supporting 10.6 driver.

• EFI Fiery Print Driver conflicts with OS X 10.6.5

I have tried updating my OS X 10.6 software with update 10.6.5 -- When I did this, whenever I print to our EFI Print Driver, my documents are turned 90 degrees. No matter what orientation setting I use, etc... the printout ALWAYS are turned 90 degrees from the way I need them.
This problem occurs in any program (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop CS5, Acrobat, Preview, etc...). I have tried twice and each time I use a Time Machine Backup Restore to get back to OS X 10.6.4 where the problem disappears. Is anyone else having this problem? How can I report this to Apple and Fiery?

I found the following post that addresses this question... thank you!

• Fiery XF Printing Limitations

I've been attempting to print large format images (35 x 48 inches) from Photoshop to an Epson Stylus 9900. The process is mediated by a Fiery XF server, and the printer was installed using Fiery XF drivers.
When creating a page size in Photoshop, the program states that "the custom page size parameters entered are inconsistent" (see screenshot 1). Interestingly, this only happens on select systems in my lab, even though all systems were built using the same image and hardware. Screenshot 2 shows dialogue boxes from a system without the problem. Has anyone else run into similar issues?
Client Specs: Dell Optiplex 9020; Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64bit; Adobe Photoshop CC 2014.2.2
Server Specs: Windows 2008 R2 standard; Fiery XF version 5
Screenshot 1 (below, two images)
Screenshot 2 (below, two images)

You will need to employ some trickery to print different images on the same sheet of paper. Fortunately, Lightroom Killer Tips has avideo tutorial that describes how
http://www.lightroomkillertips.com/archives/videos/page/3/
As for the page size, well that is usually a printer driver setting. Unfortunately, not knowing the Canon printers means I can't offer help with that particular problem.

• Fiery mx300 daylight savings time issue

Every time there's a time save for daylight hours, xp and windows 7 machines can't print to this fiery unless I remove and re add the driver.
Doing this manually for 200 computers until I write a script to automate the process.
Is there a patch or a fix for this issue?

I've noticed - We have already engaged them, but me as an engineer cannot speak to a Canon Engineer regarding the issue; I am forced to go through my dealer who plays middle man. It's a big issue for a day or 2 and then it goes away for roughly 6 months. Kinda just want to solve this once and for all. Coupled with my emails over the years and the amount of data from the hangs, I was finally able to put 2 and 2 together and relate this to DST..
