Fifth Gen 80 Gig iPod Playback Problem

About 4 weeks ago, I bought myself a nice new 80 gig iPod, fifth gen or whatever the newest one is, and it's been excellent. But sometimes I'll be listening to it and I'll have it on "Shuffle Songs" mode and when it comes to a song(It could be any random song, so I know it's not a particular song) it will sometimes freeze up while trying to play it. I'm thinking the problem could be because I rip my songs at 320kbps, so it's pretty well the highest quality around and so most song files are 10MB and up. This problem seems to only happen when it's on shuffle, and when it does happen, I usually restart my iPod, but I noticed one time, I just pressed a bunch of buttons and a few minutes later it played the song just fine. I'm not quite sure what the problem is, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • IPod Fifth Gen Widescreen Problem

I bought several movies from itunes including Resident Evil Extinction and Degeneration, The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and Pirates of the Caribean Curse of the Black Pearl. They all play back on my Fifth Gen ipod video in widescreen. I would prefer to use it fullscreen, so any answers would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem. Have tried _all_ of the suggestions including 4 of the "R"s - the Restore option is not possible, two different USB cables, 3 different computers (2 with latest iTunes update, 1 with previous). Still the same result - nothing! The ipod works fine apart from the connection issue. When attached to the computer "Do no disconnect" is displayed, but the ipod does not appear anywhere on the computer and iTunes does not start - even when I double click the icon.

  • Problems, trying to use backup from 5.1.1 iOS Gen 3 iPod does not sync music to 4th gen iOS 6 iPod.

My 3rd Gen iPod's headphone connector is basically shot, I've had it for around if not over two years now; sometimes I'm surprised it lasted this long; since I am not one who usually listens to her music without headphones, this is problematic, .
Luckily, a family memberI know had a gen 4 iPod, 32g, same space amount as my old one, lying around that they don't use anymore, thank goodness.
Well, in one case, not so much. First of all, said iPod was locked with a passcode (the passcode was guessed so many times because no one could remember it, it locked permenantly) so I had to completely wipe it. However, it wasn't so bad, though all the information was lost, I could finally use iOS 6 on an iPod.
Well, iOS turned out to be a huge problem, in the way of synicing my old backup. I have about, um, an estimated 3000 songs on my 3rd gen iPod, that of which are not all on one computer, and are from multiple computers (my desktop / laptop); I thought all the songs would transfer over with the rest of my things. I didn't think the iOS made a difference.
Lo and behold, I was dead wrong.
When my iPod was restored to my previous backup, it had no music, only my pictures and apps were added. I'd call 'it annoyed me' an understatement. I waited all that time for the ipod to restore and the backup to finish, only to get my one hundered pictures and two apps.
I have tried to look up how to extract music from my iPod, but to no avail, my computer recognizes it as a camera and I can only access the picture files; the way I read you have to do it online, you must be able to actually get into the iPod's folders, besides the picture folders, and I can't seem to do that; there was an option in earlier versions of iTunes that allowed the iPod device to be displayed as something other than a camera but it no longer seems to be an option in the new iTunes.
All the programs for extracting files, specialized for iPod file extraction, actually, cost money, which at the moment, I don't have much of, this iPod was given to me by a family member, and I'm lucky I even have it. Manual extraction is also something I've tried but failed miserably at, as mentioned earlier.
I'm really not up for re-synching one by one, I want this to be as quick and painless as possible. I have the available GB for my 3000 songs (I checked). Most of my songs are mp3s, and some are m4as. Not everything is bought, and not everything is going to be able to be downloaded through iCloud on account of the fact that there are, uh, over 2GB worth of songs, so does anyone have any solutions to my problem here? I have over 50gb in my desktop library alone, loads more in my laptop library, and I really don't feel like separating all the songs from my previous iPod into a single playlist, if there's a more efficient, free solution out there....
This would not have been a problem in the first place, if the passcode was not there; but blame the previous owner of the 4th gen iPod for that. She typed it so many times it locked her out. And so, I had to reset, but not without an automatic update for iOS 6, which my gen3 can't update to, because it's, well, outdated.

Connect the iPod to your computer and update to iOS 6.1.3. You need iTunes 10.7 or later on the computer.

  • I have a fifth gen Ipod and have changed computers. I was not able to transfer all the music over when I created an itunes account on the new computer. How can I save all the songs on my ipod and upload new ones? It wants to sync with my new account.

I have a fifth gen ipod classic. I switched computers and was not able to transfer the songs and pictures over. When I connect my ipod to the computer it wants to sync with it which would delete all my songs and music. Is there a way around this?

  • Video Playback Problems (iPod Classic 120GB)

Hi! I recently purchased my new iPod Classic 120GB but I'm encountering problems regarding video playback.
I downloaded a *music video* from the internet, and the file format is *mpeg video*. I then purchased an iPod Video Converter and thus changed the file to the appropriate one in order to play it in my iPod.
I played the music video first in my iTunes to check whether the video has any problems, but there was none, and it wasn't corrupted. As for my other videos, I have used the same iPod video converter and they were all fine. I then transferred the music video in my iPod.
Problem is, the quality was good and everything, but there are some *slight glitches in the music video*. There wasn't anything wrong with the audio, but with *some of the scenes* in the video itself. I then replayed it, then the *glitch transferred to another scene in the video*.
I then removed the said music video from my iPod, re-converted it, replayed it in my iTunes, then transferred it to my iPod, but the same video still has the same glitch.
So far, I have transferred 10+ music videos in my iPod and they all worked just fine, but I have 6 other music videos that are encountering the same problem with playback.
Does the problem lie with my iPod converter, or in my iTunes, or in my iPod itself? I would like to know.
I would really appreciate some help with this! Thanks!
    For additional information:
    iTunes - latest version 8.1
iPod - recently bought, Classic 120 GB
video converter - Allok Video to iPod converter
video itself - mpeg format, 204 MB

unfortunately its hard to tell where the problem lies... it depeneds on what type of glitch you are talking about. i really hope you didnt actually pay for a video converter... try "ipod video 9" which is absolutely free... top quality and VERY VERY easy to use!!! this program has never caused issues for me. if the issue is with your ipod it may be a delay in information transfer from your ipods hardrive. try defragmenting your ipod like you would your computer in the "my computer" window on windows, this does actually help your ipod read the information on its hardrive faster and should slightly--->drastically improve your ipods performance depending on factors such as how fragmented (jumbled) your files are, how many files you have on the ipod, the size of each file etc.
these are the only things i can think of!!! try both... see how you get on.

  • HELP: Fifth Generation Ipod corruption Problem!

    Hi all,
I have used my fifth generation 30gb ipod for nearly three years now, and
had no problem. But yesterday I was using it to as a remote hard disk to
transfer some of my data between two computers. Suddenly my ipod could not
find all the files and all my songs, and the available space has been reset
to full space. Is there any way I can get all my songs back from my ipod,
because I do not have all the songs in my new computer and I do not have my
    old one. Thank you.
I lost 5000+ songs, and I am seriously ****** off. arhhhhh!!!

That's usually a pretty good indication that the headphone jack needs replacing, especially if a different set of earbuds didn't resolve the issue, or the 5 R's of troubleshooting that would rule out a software issue.  Apple may still be able to swap it out for you for a flat fee, but you'll have to ask.  See here for pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
There are still numerous third party services out there that can swap out the actual headphone jack as well for smaller fee.  Google for "iPod headphone jack repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

  • New ipod 60 gig with video problem

I've converted several of my dvd's to watch on my brand new 60 gig ipod and using itunes placed them properly into my ipod. Each one plays for about 30 seconds, then stops, then resumes but with no sound. I have seen other posts related to version 1.0, but my new ipod came with 1.1 already installed. Any ideas on how to resolve this problem. Is Apple working on a fix for this "known" problem that seem to just affect the 60 gig video ipod? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks...

The fix has been out for several months.
iPods with software version 1.1.1 or later no longer experience this problem.
Update your iPod to software version 1.1.2...

    iPod Updater

  • Problems mounting gen 2 ipod

I have a 40gb gen 2 ipod which is pretty much chocka with music. For some reason it does not want to mount anymore. System profiler sees it under firewire but the disk utility does not want to launch when it's connected and if launched before it's connected it won't see it. Same thing with ipod updater: it won't launch with ipod connected. I have reset the ipod to no avail. when connected it says 'do not disconnect' but appart from that nothing happens. it always worked fine until now.

  • 40 gig iPod Gapless Playback

I was under the assumption that the old 40 gig iPod does not support Gapless Playback. When I plug it in to the mac, iTunes starts and I get the message, "Determining Gapless Playback Information", and the spinning wheel. I have 1,146 songs on there, and I've had it hooked up all day at work (9 hours) and it's on song number 746.
I can do other things on the computer, just nothing in iTunes. What gives? I can't eject it, the only way out is to unplug it. When I wanted to use it I just unplugged it but got tired of doing that so thought today I would just let it update and it's a little over half done in 9 hours.

Have you looked through the support documentation in regards to hard drive size error reports? If no one can help you here, I suggest taking it to a local mac reseller that has technicians with experience in hardware. It's a resource that exists and doesn't get enough appreciation. Good luck.

  • Help! Very frustrating problem with my Gen 4 iPod!

    Hello,
I am hoping somebody can help me. I have a 20GB Gen 4 iPod with 3.1.1 software installed. It is formatted for Windows but just refuses to appear on my iTunes on my Mac. Here are the details:
    - Macbook Air running Mac OS X 10.6.2
    - iTunes 9.0.2
    - Gen 4 iPod running 3.1.1 software
    - My Mac works fine with either iPhone or iTouch
I have tried restoring the iPod but that hasn't helped. I can't restore it from my Mac as it does not get recognised in iTunes, but does show as a hard disk in the finder.
I have recently sold my iPhone as i have a new work phone. So I want to use my old ipod again. Thats my goal - get the ipod working with my mac!!
Any hints or tips would be great!
    Thanks...

Hey Mitch - good tips. I have managed to now erase the iPod using the disk utility and it now shows up in iTunes every time it is connected. However it then says the iPod is corrupted and suggests a restore. I try this and it gets a little bit into it and cuts out, saying the iPod is busy... every time, without fail.
    Any other tips?
    Thanks

  • Fifth Gen Video to TV issue

I purchased an iPod AV Connection Kit and I read and tried all the suggestions but I am still not receiving a video signal. So I used an S-Video cable and still no signal. I tried it on a fourth generation iPod and that did receive a video signal, only with the S-Video cable. Is there something I’m not doing correctly? Or do I need to take my fifth gen iPod in and see if that may be the problem?

you need to turn on your external video out on,
videos-video settings-tv out (on, off, ask)

  • Fifth Gen Driver issue

    Hello all,
My fifth gen ipod was working fine up untill a couple of weeks ago when my pc started to display it as an unknown usb device. the only piece of info I get from the pc is to reconnect the device and if the problem persists replace the device. now if i can get away with not replacing my ipod that would be great but i dont know how to fix this problem. upon trying to update the driver i get 'most recent driver intalled' and upon searching for the drive on the pc i get 'no driver for this device found'. i'v tried re-formatting but the pc wont allow me to it untill it recognises the device and i've removed and reinstalled itunes etc. the ipod works fine other than this issue.
