Figure number in figure caption is resetting itself to 1 or 2

Hi all,
This is a problem that I have every now and again. For some reason, the figure number in the figure caption (whose style/tag is FigureCaption) is resetting itself to 1 or 2 for a figure in the middle of the book. They all have the following Autonumber Format:
F:Figure\ <n+>:
I was wondering if something some way through the document did something with the flow, so I decided to use a different flow letter, Z, for the flow, but I got the same problem when it reached the same figure (i.e., its figure caption).
In the past, I would fudge this by forcibly setting n to the expected figure number, e.g., n=1.
Later in the book, the numbering would recover and resume correctly incrementing itself.

I have been studying and testing this more.
Here are some more observations.
- I find that the FigureCaption numbering is being reset (to 1 or to 2) at the entrance into each new chapter (document).
So it is almost as if FM is not relating to the document as being in the book.
- However, the numbering of table captions all correctly increments across and through the chapters.
This idea I have that it is almost as if FM is not relating to the document as being in the book: could this also explain the broken cross-references problem I have just posted (as a different thread)?

Hiding Figure Captions

I have a document with 56 pdfs (one per page) that have figure numbers and titles on them. I need to create a list of figures for the table of contents. Is there a way to use Figure Captioning to do this? Can I hide figure captioning so it doesn't appear on the page but still generates the list in the table of contents?

You can put the captions in frames marked non-printing in the Attributes panel, or on a layer that is set to non-printing. I like to make them big and red so they are obvious.

Changing position of figure captions (legends)

Hi, I'm using FrameMaker 9, and I have a question about changing the position of figure captions. Currently in all our docs, figure captions are placed above the figure (above the anchored frame) to which they apply, but the powers that be (much to my annoyance) have decreed that they should appear below the figure. Does anyone know a way of changing the position of all anchored frames in relation to the caption paragraph without having to do it manually for each one?

The fundamentally annoying thing is that Frame doesn't have "above current line" for anchored frames (AFs) or tables.
Unless you use some run-in or at-insertion-point dodge, or you only need one AF/TBL per column (which could use top-of-column), ya gotta have an anchoring line of some sort above the AF/TBL.
... and the caption is below the graphic, the link jumps to the caption, displaying it at the top of the page.
Hack:
Use a tiny unique paragraph format for anchoring, with a to-be-invisible color View, say "Caption.Anchor", pt size 4, keep with next.
Make the subject caption text the text of that Caption.Anchor paragraph.
Anchor the frame or table to that.
Put the visible caption paragraph on the next line (below the AF), or in the TBL, say, format "Caption.Visible", keep with previous.
Make the text of Caption.Visible an Xref, <$paratex> (only) to Caption.Anchor.
Have the TOC generate for Caption.Anchor. Make all hand-typed Xrefs use Caption.Anchor.
Page loss to an invisible anchoring line* is minimal.
The caption now appears to be below the frame.
Hypertext links go to the top of the AF or TBL.
* This can cause slight topline mismatch in multi-column layouts.

ITunes 11.x resetting itself every time its closed and relaunched

Itunes 11.x keeps resetting itself every time I close it and then later reopen. It prompts accepting the end user agreement, then upon entering, all the sync preferences are reset. Doesn't seem to effect backup of apps or music library. I'm using windows vista 64. Tried reinstalling several times removing every apple component including, all apple sub files, preference files in windows user folders, and all other apple folders, with no change upon reinstallation. Tried resetting sync history/cache in iTunes preferences, tried resetting admin rights in windows, tried enough to make this miserable. Can't find any solutions online though have found a lot of people complaining about the same issues with iTunes 11. Thought about removing 11 and installing older version though figured I'd try here first for a solution.

Its a i7 965, 12GB ram, 295GTX, on a ASUS P6T Deluxe m/b, with a PCP&C 860W in a LianLi 7010 case.

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer

Ipod resets itself?

I've had my ipod for almost a year, and ever since I got it, it would reset itself/turn off for no reason at all. The screen fades away very slowly and when I turn it back on the time is reset to 12am but all my music and playlists are still there. This happens randomly and I can't seem to figure out why it is doing it. Is this normal? Is something wrong with my ipod, because it's very annoying.

it's not normal that it resets itself.
if your ipod is running 1.1 you can try resetting it to 1.0. A lot of people have been having trouble with 1.1.

Macbook resetting itself when the battery dies.

Hi all I am really hoping someone can shed some light on what’s happening to my Looney MacBook.
About two days ago I forgot to put it on charge when the battery was on 3% and it shut down, so I turned it back on when I had connected it to the power like normal and expected all to be okay. The computer had completely reset itself, time, date, Internet passwords, background everything. I put everything back to how it should and tried to connect to Facebook. The webpage was just the raw webpage, without its style sheet (is the only way I can describe it). So I was like okay that’s weird, and normally after a few refreshes it goes back to normal but it didn’t. It wasn’t because the Internet connection was slow either.
The next day it was still the same, deleted the cache reset everything on safari and restarted which seemed to fix it. I have just let the battery run down again (bad I know) and it did it all over again.
So I am turning to here to figure out what is going on! I hope it can be fixed, as I love my mac too much!

If you love your Mac, stop running its battery down the the point that it shuts off.

Nano resetting itself when playing video

I have just bought a brand new Nano and I'm very happy with it so far. However after applying the new firmware update I've noticed a problem. When playing a video the Ipod will sometimes reset itself for no apparent reason. Sometimes I can sit for an entire bus journey and nothing will happen. Other times I can be sitting there for only 10 minutes watching a video and it will reset itself then go to the Video Select screen again. When resuming the video it will be at the point it was when originally turning the device on. Thus 'forgetting' what I've watched so far.
Is it the firmware do you think?
Has anyone else had a similar problem?
Any workarounds/solutions?

I think I've figured out how to keep it from resetting. Each time I watch a video I return to the video menu before turning the Nano off. When I turn it back on and select the video I had previously been watching it plays from the correct spot. Since I have been doing this the Nano has not reset itself even once. It's a bit annoying to have to do this, but much less annoying then having it reset in the middle of something.

Please explain what actually happens.
Do you have upwards of 15% free space on your HD? If not, this could be causing issues.
Have you run Repair Disk? Boot from install disc (insert disc>restart>immediately hold down c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”)>at first screen go to Installer Menu>open Disk Utility>select your HD in the panel on the left side>click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself).
Are the temps high? Are the fans running at high speed? (download free iStat Pro)

New IPad resets itself in mid-call using FaceTime???

Using my New IPad, 16gb, wi-fi only this morning, doing FaceTime, in the middle of the call, the screen went blank, and the iPad appeared to completely reset itself; that is, the screen went completely blank and after a few seconds, the apple logo came on the screen, and then it proceeded to reboot to the lock screen. I tried reconnecting and this same thing happened multiple times. Sometimes within a minute of connecting the call, sometimes 5 minutes after connecting, it we in predictable. Any ideas what to do?

Apologies, Diesel, I should have put in more details:
- when a new contact is created, only the facetime icon appears to the right - no phone or texting icon
- this just started happening, all previous contacts had tel, texting and sometimes facetime icon
- the app doesn't automatically format the phone number correctly when "done" is tapped (i.e. add brackets and hyphen if not typed in manually)
- the keyboard has actually lost it's round brackets!
This is my father's iPhone - I'm helping him out, and know more details may be needed.

IPAD resetting itself and will not activate after restore

Hi
I got an iPAD 3G+WIFI just over a month ago and everything was working fine. all of a sudden it just started resetting itself. I got a message on screen saying I should restore the iPAD and a strange error saying "iPhone cannot call" (or something like that) so I connected to iTunes, backup, and restored. The problem is that after restore the iPAD won't activate and iTunes puts up an error saying "We're sorry, iPAD is damaged. Please take to the closest Apple store". (I tried all sorts of forced restart and restore that I found in various forums but it just won't activate)
Now...the additional problem... I got this as a gift from the US, but I live in Malta (Europe) and the closest Apple store is basically in another country!! The local Apple agent isn't licensed for servicing iPADs yet.
1. Can this be solved via software?
2. Is it possible to ship back via post?

I sounds like a hardware problem to me. I suspect you can send it back but first your typically need and RMA number which you get from Apple. Have you asked the locale store of how to send it back? Since it seem that it is within the 90 day free telephone support period you should be able to call Apple in the USA for shipping instruction. Go to the USA Apple site to find contact information.

LR resets itself

Hello,
I've had a problem with LR4 and now with LR5.
From time to time, the programm resets itself. All presets, adjustment brushes and so on are gone, LR asks for the serial number, creates a new catalog and then introduces itself.
It's just like I opened it for the first time
When using LR4, I could accept that behaviour, but not that I have LR5 within the CC Abo, I think I might run into problems, because I simply don't have a serial to paste.
Reinstalling via the CC Installer could solve it temporarily, but I couldn't find a solution for LR4.
The resets happens without any warning and could happen even multiply times a day.
Oh, my OS is Windows 7 64bit.
I really hope someone can help me, this issue really annoys me :-/

3. Do you mean that a preset was saved with a small amount, but the Jpegs are getting applied with a different numeric value of NR? That would be a big bug.
Or do you mean that the same numeric value of the NR slider has different effect on Jpeg vs. Raw? That would be normal, I think.

5th gen. keeps reseting itself

Whenever i plug my 5th gen. nano into my docking station, it automatically resets itself. it doesn't do this when i plug it into the computer via usb cable, but it does when i plug it into this dock.

Contact the dock manufacturer. They should have a tech support website or a toll free telephone number listed on the website or in the user manual.

Blackberry 9810 keeps resetting itself several times a day

The screen seemingly randomly turns off and take a couple of minutes to reset itself. Usually it happens after dialing or opening the slider. I have tried all of the resets including Safe Mode and the only thing that I can see to try is to Clean Install the Blackberry OS. I have started and Blackberry does not have a Fido for this model as Fido does not provide one. It was originally a Telus phone. How do I do a clean install and will I have any problems with Fido with a Telus OS on my Blackberry. The unit is unlocked and has successfully worked for about 6 months.Thanks, Allan

There is no requirement to use any specific carriers OS package. The only requirement is to use an OS package that is for your specific model BB, but if the OS comes from a carrier other than that for which your BB was originally manufactured, there is a necessary "trick".

Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
