Figuring out restriction passcode?

My phone says that my restriction settings are on, which I am assuming is why none of my aps can be granted access to my photo stream, and I have never set up a restriction passcode. I have tried the last 4 digits of my phone number, 0000, and one I thought I might have set up, but none of them work. Does anyone know what is going on? What a general restriction passcode is? And how to reset it without reseting my whole phone?

There is no "general" restrictions passcode nor any way to reset it.
If there is a restrictions passcode set and you do not know it, your options are guess indefinitely or restore as new.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

I have an IPad with a Restriction code that we cannot remember.  Is it possible to delete and restore the IPad without the code.  If not how do I figure out the code or how to remove it?

The only option is to wipe the device clean and restore it to factory settings.  Hope you have a backup.
Follow the instructions in  iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 to restore the device to factory settings.
Once you have setup the device as a new one, you can then sync it back with your iTunes account and all your music, apps, contacts and any other content sync'ed with iTunes will be loaded on the device. Any content that is stored only on the device and not sync'ed with iTunes, like app logins or data, will be lost during this process. Be forewarned that this is a long process and can take a couple of hours or more to complete. This can be painful, but it is necessarily so to prevent users from working around the security settings. After the restore is complete, you can setup a new Restrictions passcode. Make a note of the passcode to avoid this situation in future.

I was bored and decided to change my passcode, but when I locked it, I realized I had forgotten the passcode already. Its really bothering me and I cant figure out how to hack it or remember it an I no longer have a computer. Is there any way to fix it?

      3. iOS- Understanding passcodes
If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. If you do not have a
backup to restore, then restore as New.
If you are restoring to fix a forgotten Restrictions Code or as a New device, then skip Step 9 and restore as New.

Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.
    Thanks

  • Documents & Data full ? Restrictions passcode wrong?

I'll admit that I have a slim understanding of how my iPhone 4S really works & at the risk of sounding crazy, I'll try to detail the issues I'm having that even the Apple store rep couldn't quite figure out.
Let me also preface by saying I don't understand most of the lingo & instructions posters give to remedy things. I need layperson's terms.
I have 18GB, no music, not many apps but almost 9GB taken up by documents & data. No idea why. I had never backed-up on iTunes because I didn't think it necessary since I don't have much info stored. Apple rep said he'd never seen that much space taken up by docs & data so he instructed me to back-up on iTunes, which I did. I started like 'as new phone' & when it asked me to enter codes (is passcode different from restrictions passcode?) I entered the same for both but when I went to clear out my docs & data (which came back I guess because I restored from back-up when prompted) I was told that my passcode is wrong.
This is the crazy part, and I know I'll sound like a nutjob but I have had some identity theft issues lately & since I don't know that much about how this all works, I worry & sound like a conspiracy theorist (which I am DEFINTELY not) but when I was wiping it & starting new, the screen flashed with a language like Arabic or another Middle Eastern script. I am SURE of this. I am a pretty intelligent person so I know what many languages look like & can't figure out why this would happen. Maybe this happens every time an iPhone is wiped?
Like I said, recently I have had some ID issues. My myverizon account was hacked & my name was booted off the account, my phone turned off, address changed to Michigan & upgrade used on high-end merchandise before I realized my phone was no longer working & called verizon to fix. Someone hacked into my wells fargo account & my minor child's account from the back end, stole nothing, but took our personal info such as social security number. Other things as well so I now worry who has access to what.
    At any rate, this query post is multi-fold;
#1. If I enetered passcode/restrictions code info when wiping phone clean, why can't I get in?
#2. Why so much space taken up in docs & data? How can I free-up some space?
#3. Am I just being paranoid about foreign laguage upon restore?

When you sync, it does a backup first and then syncs those items you have selected in iTunes.

  • How do you elimanate the restriction Passcode on a IPhone 4 as I forgot the password?

How do you eliminate the "Restriction Passcode" on a IPhone 4 as I forgot the password?
I have done a backup and I have done a Restore and I still have the Restriction Passcode On.
My main objective is to wipe out this phone to manufactures specifications.

I had the same problem with my iPhone 5C. After trying several YouTube solutions involving CopyBot, which did not work, I finally figured out how to get rid of the restrictions passcode.
    1. Back up your phone to icloud. You will want to be sure you have synced your phone to your laptop as well to access your contacts and photos again.
    2. Make sure you have "Find my Phone" activated on your phone.
    3. On a laptop or other device, go to www.icloud.com/#find.
    4. Login and after the site finds your phone's location, click on the "All Devices" arrow and select your phone.
    5. Select Erase iphone. You will see it erasing on your phone. Don't panic!
    6. When your phone restarts, it will take you through the setup process. YOU WANT TO SET IT UP AS A NEW PHONE! If you restore a backup you will still have the passcode in play.
    7. During the set up, your phone should automatically restore your contacts; however, you may need to upload your photos and music manually.
    8. The restrictions passcode will no longer be on your phone! You will need to download your purchased apps again. This is a bummer, but at least you got past the restrictions passcode.
I know this worked for the 5c, I can only assume it will work for all versions of the iphone, but I am not an expert.

  • Never had a restrictions passcode, can't change settings now

Hi, hoping someone can help figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I've only just updated my iPad to ios 6 and it now asks me for a restrictions password when i need to change any location settings.
The previous operating systems I had never had any restrictions passwords and it doesn't accept the only four digit code that I ever use.
I have restored from scratch and it still asks for a password which I have never set up before.
How am i supposed to change location settings now if this restrictions passcode that I've never set up won't let me through?
Any help would be awesome! This has been really, really frustrating and I won't be buying any more Apple products if this stupid issue can't be fixed unfortunately! Sick of it
    Cheers

Yeah, I'm definitely on the latest and greatest.
I've also trashed Pref's to no avail. Thanks for the tip on dragging the clip into the L&C window. Very useful. That's why I love this place. Thanks.
Let me know if you can do that when you get done capturing.
-Also something else I've noticed. Previously I could also click on the Reel column of a captured clip and change the reel name if I needed to. Since 5.1 I can no longer do this as well. Major pain the butt b/c I have an absent minded shooter that always wants to capture his own footage but never remembers to put his reel names in. In the past I could clean up after him. Now I can't do this.

  • How do i synch my pdf/books to my library. I was able to synch my ipod touch purchases by transferring them but can't figure out how to do my pdfs. Also why is my ipod picture greyed out-the one that lets my move the icons around.

How do i synch my pdf/books to my Itunes  library. I was able to synch my ipod touch app purchases by transferring them but can't figure out how to do my pdfs. Also why is my ipod picture greyed out-the one that lets my move the icons around.
I am afraid if i don't get the pdfs into my book library, i will lose them when i update to IOS 5-is that true?

thank you-i have to check into the authorization and the account-i gave my husband my old ipod when i updated last year so both at one time have been on this computer but as it stands, it only comes up with my device when i plug into Itunes.
i don't think i have any restrictions for installing apps although my normal way of doing it is to download from the ipod touch. i did find that all i had to do was right click on my device name and got the message to transfer my apps and then they showed up in my library. Also when i clicked the synch checkbox i was able to view the ipod touch picture without it being greyed out. after all that i was able toupdate to IOS 5 successfully except my videos and podcast, and pdfs  did not come over. This confuses me since i had dragged them over to my library to make sure that i had everything in my library and on my device. Not a big problem, since i just dragged them in itunes from my library to my device but sometimes i wonder if i understand the big picture:)

  • How many times can you attempt the restrictions passcode?

I've forgotten the restrictions passcode I set on my iPod. Since I don't want to perform a complete systems reset just yet, I want to try to attempt remembering my passcode... how many times can I try the restrictions passcode without permanently locking it?

This is for the restrictions passcode correct? Not the regular passcode....
And I heard somewhere that if you guess too many times, you will be permanently locked out of your device...

  • How many times can I try for restriction passcode in ipad

    HI
I have forgotten restriction passcode and have already tried 12 times. Now it allows me to attempt after every 1 time. Though I have forgotten my password but I have a finite set of passwords. I am sure I will be able to crack after some 15/20 more times. Now do I stand a chance of my IPAD device permanently disabled after a certain no of times. I am ok with trying after every 1 hour as many times as possible but dont want to enter into a scenario where my device is permanantly locked. I dont have an itunes back up also so restoring from itunes is not there. Can I change the time and go on fooling the system?
    Regards
    S Choudhury

If you are talking about Parental Control type of restrictions on the iPad, I believe that to be entirely iOS software level. You have 6 attempts before it locks you out for a minute. It then increases the locked-out time after further failed attempts. Since you have two failed attempts, it should let you have four more without consequence, which, if one goes through, all is well, if not, you will be locked out, before you can do a 7th attempt for 1 minute - to start with.If you fail the 7th time, it will increase the time to 5 minutes.
