File access after migration

I just used migration assistant to transfer user files from my G4 to a new mini, but cannot access the files from the old computer. I'm looking for photos, music and email folders primarily, but the emails are the most important.
I get a message that says I don't have "sufficient access privileges".
What next? The files have "migrated". They are using disk space.

Nope. I trashed the user file that migrated, then went back into the G4 and pulled my photo files over to the mini. My real problem is losing the old email folders and as a consequence, my address book, etc. I thought that I found them in my old library, but they are not accessible. Do you think that I can just drag the folders into my new mail program?

  • Limited file access after migration assistant

After migrating files from a TM to a new HD for my MBP, I needed help from the Apple Community just the find the things tucked away in a new user folder. Now I need help getting them to open.  Many folders have this little minus sign on them and say "You have no access" when I see their info. These are the most significant items and what I thought was the purpose of a backup. (Music, Pictures, Movies, Downloads, Deskstop, and my fav. "Silver Briefcase"), I have found the files on TM, so they do exist, but I am hesitant to click "Restore", as the files may already be on here somewhere. Please help make this "just work".

Before getting this, I took it to a Mac-helper store. They had me make a new account and delete the two incomplete accounts so I could do a full restore and have only one account. They recommended restoring while in TM from that one account, shut down the computer, restart, open the restored account, and deleting this dumby-starter account. That didn't work: I got a "cannot complete this process. Error -8003".
That should work if, instead of using Time Machine to restore the account in question, you use Migration Assistant to transfer it instead.  Restoring or copying the home folder from your backups won't work.
Trying your method: Pressing Command (the apple) - R resutls in a "No" sign as in "No smoking", and then my computer shuts off.
    Do that after powering down.
Your profile says you're running Tiger (10.4.11).  We know that's outdated, since Time Machine doesn't work on Tiger, but we don't know what you are running:
    •  If you're running Leopard (10.5.x) or Snow Leopard (10.6.x), you need to insert the the OSX Install disc (per section (b) of #14 and hold the "C" key while starting up.
    •  If you're running Lion (10.7.x) or Mountain Lion (10.8.x), you need to start from your Recovery HD, per section (a) of #14.  Hold Cmd and the "R" keys while starting up (the Cmd keys are next to the spacebar on most keyboards).
If that doesn't work, hold the Alt/Option key while starting up.  That will show all possible startup sources, something like this:
If you're on Lion or Mountain Lion, you should see either "Recovery HD" or "Recovery 10-8" (the red arrow).
If you're on 10.7.2 or later, your Time Machine drive may have a copy of the Recovery HD (the green arrow).
If there's an Install disc in your SuperDrive, it will be shown.
Select the one you want (the gray arrow should move), then click the drive icon to start from it.
EDIT:  please tell us what version of OSX your Mac is running.
It would also be a good idea to update your profile, by clicking "Your Stuff" at the top of this page, selecting "Profile," and editing the "My Products" section.

  • File associations after migration

    Hi
I'm using ADMT 3.2 to migrate Windows 8 machines to a new domain within the same forest and I know that it's not 100% supported but I wonder if anyone
got the same problem as me.
The Migration finish successful without any problems but when the user logs on the file associations are lost and even after choosing program the
question question turns up again the next time the user tries to start the program by clicking on a jpg file or an xls file
And yes the user profiles are migrated.
    Any ideas?
Will there be a ADMT 3.X that supports Windows 8 and Windows 2012?
    Thanks
    Magnus

Hi, Sorry for resurrecting an old post, but I wondered if you ever found a way round this - We are performing an ADMT 3.2 (updated month or so ago to allow support for 2012 and win 8) and running into similar issues....
The ADMT migration runs perfectly, without issues, but upon completion when a user logs into their PC all their file associations are broken - reg keys under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts all seem intact, but until
I go in and delete the UserChoices reg key I cannot set these file associations again!
Looking at a PC before and after migration, there doesn't seem to be any changes (other than the new user is added to the permissions obviously)!
Interestingly, after deleting user choices, I am still not prompted to set "default program" when I double click an affected file type...I have to right click and "Open With" before I see the checkbox to set the default!
Very strange behaviour and must be something to do with the security translation of the registry as part of ADMT if you ask me?
I would be interested to hear anyone's view's on this issue as you and I (so far) seem to be the only ones affected!
    Thanks
    Paul

  • Increased file sizes after migrating to the Ultra2

Upgrading from a 10,000E to an Ultra2 and have noticed that many of the files that I had on my 10,000E have grown after migrating to the Ultra2. The sizes vary from doubling to fractional, but there is a consistant increase in the sizes of files. Anyone have any ideas?

Are you seeing the size increase when you do an "ls -l" and get the size or is
the space used in the file system (ls -s / du / df) just higher than it was on the last machine?
If it is the latter and the file systems are using more space, it could be due to sparse
files. In other words, files with holes in them. Utilities such as tar and cpio do
not understand holes in files and when the files are moved, the holes are filled
in and the space required for the file increases. ufsdump understands the file
system and can recreate the holes in the files.
If the actual size of the file is increasing (ls -l), that is strange and more details
    would be required.

  • DB Migration from SAPDB to Oracle 10g - Archive access after migration?

    Hi!
Our customer plans to move his SAP system landscape from one Service Provider to another. During this not only new hardware is used but also a DB migration will be done using the procedure described in the SAP System Copy Guide (SAPDB -> Oracle - Offline Export in source system,
    Import in target system).
SAPSID and client will be the same in the new environment, but of course HW key, IP-adress, Server name, Domain name and obviously Installation no. will change. SAP Note 153433 as well as System Copy Guide do not completely clearly tell me, whether we will face problems when trying to access our archived data after the migration. It's not completely clear to me, how the Archive References are
built: Only using SAPSID and client? Then everything should be okay, because here we plan no changes.
So do we have to face any problems when trying to access and/or reload the archived files and objects after the movement to the new service provider? Are there any pitfalls concerning archviving and archive access we have to take in mind?
Add. info: The archvied files and objects are stored in an IBM Common Store which will be moved physically from location A to B. So here nothing changes.
Thanx in advance for any hint.
BTW: SAP Notes 153433, 460620 and 53068 were already studied. SAP support said this is a consulting issue ... ;-(
    Regards,
    Volker Kolberg

    Hi Volker,
I haven't worked much on archiving, however Archived files are flat files ( I think) and hence these files should be common for all databases.
However a good strategy is to first test. I think you must have already thought about it however still here is what you could do.
Take system copy of the system you want to migrate ( you could choose a development system where there is not much data)
Delete data the production clients in the copied system.
Archive some data using object something like WORKITEM which is harmless workflow object.
Migrate the system and try to reload the object
    Hope that helps.

  • No access after migrating vm to n1kv

after i migrated a vm to n1kv. the vms cannot get access to the network.
I did a show inte vethernet 109 status and status is up. vlan is correct. other vms on this vlan works just fine.
    duplex/speed is auto auto
    any idea?
    thanks

So VM was working fine on host-1, when moved to host-2 it stopped working.
This tells me you probably have some differences in the VLAN config of your two ESXi hosts.
-Check the allowed VLANs to ensure they're the same on both hosts
-Check the native VLAN (if any) to ensure its the same on boht hosts.
-Are the two ESXi VEMs using the same uplink Port Profile?
My vote is item one is your problem.
    Connect to UCS CLI
    connect nxos
    show int trunk
    - Do you see all the appropriate VLANs allowed on your two hosts vNICs?

I used migration assistant to transfer files from my old to new mac mini.  After the transfer was complete, the files I transferred to my new mac disappeared from my new mac, including my hard drive icon.  But it shows that the hard drive space is taken up.  What happened and where are my files?

  • Folders and Files Locked After Migrating

I replaced my beloved iMac G5 with a new 27" Intel iMac. I migrated my files over to the new Mac using Migration Assistant. Now, all [or all that I've tried] of my Folders and Files are locked so I can't rename them or add new files to a folder without first Getting Info, then unlocking, typing in my PW and changing the Privileges to Read & Write for everyone. I'm the Administrator -- and the only account on the Mac. My account shows that I have both Read & Write Privileges, but that doesn't seem to be enough for the new Mac.
Any suggestions? It's rather time consuming to have to reset the Privileges every time I try to save a file to a new Folder.
    Thanks.

Thanks again. That was helpful. I wish the Genius at the Apple Store had bothered to explain that there would be two accounts.
If I can trouble you a bit more. While I understand that I shouldn't merge the two accounts, there are now some files under the "new" account that I need to have in the "migrated" account. What's the best way to move them? I tried copying them on to an External HD, but when I tried to copy them in to the Merged account I get nothing but Error -36 [and everything stops b/c of .ds_store files. I've been looking at posts about .ds_store files and it seems that lots of people are having problems with them and that there doesn't seem to be an easy fix. So much for the Intuitive thinking of just copying files from one drive to another.] The External is Mac Journaled -- I reformatted it yesterday just to be sure.

can only access emails through OWA after migration from exchange 2007 to 2013, in other words unable to access mails through outlook or from other Applications services.
    needed RCA ... plz help..

    Hi,
From your description, you can send and receive messages only when you use OWA after migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. If I have misunderstood your concern, please let me know.
In your case, I recommend you create a new test mailbox in your Exchange 2013 and check if you can send and receive messages on Outlook. If yes, it is recommended to create a new profile to solve this issue.
Hope this can be helpful to you.

  • It's very slow to access file server after installed SP1 of Win7.

I found it's become very slow to access shared files on file server after installed win7 SP1, (windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe),  access same file, the win7 without sp1 is fast in 5 secs, but the pc with sp1 need more than 30 secs. And
I tried to removed the sp1, everything goes fine, access fast as others.
I don't understand what's the reason and which feature affected it, I believe the sp1 can help Win7 be more safety, but why the performance on it get worse.
And I didn't find the same question or tips on forum or website, do you really haven't the issue?

  • After migrating to new Mac Pro Dreamweaver won't launch, says missing menus.xml file. How do I resolve this?

After migration to a new Mac Pro Dreamweaver CS6 won't launch. It says it is missing menus.xml file. How do I resolve this?

    Hi rustyg12,
    Go to Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CS6/Configuration/Menus/menus.bak
You'll see a menus.xml there - it is a backup copy of the actual menus.xml file that DW uses.
Copy it from that folder, paste it 1 level above (in Menus folder).
Fire up DW. See if it works.

  • After migrating my files from an HP laptop to my MacBook Pro....

After migrating my files from an HP to my MacBook, how do I combine the accounts in which my transferred files is under?

Well that is just it. You should not have more then one account unless you created a second user on the Mac.
If after the transfer from the HP you ended up with 2 user accounts that is because the system you used to do the transfer created the second user to match the username from the HP. There is no good, or any, way to combine 2 user accounts and if you copy files over the permissions may not get set correctly.
    Migrations assistant strike again.
You might be better off starting from scratch, Over. IMHO.

  • After migrating to a retina macbook with mountain lion I can not play windows media player files with flip4mac anymore

After migrating to a retina macbook with mountain lion I can not play windows media player files anymore. I use flip4mac pro 3.0 and quicktime 7.6.6.
The message I receive is: De bewerking kan niet worden voltooid. (OSStatus fout -50). I also have problems with zip files that can not be saved on the desktop anymore while unzipping.

I actually installed Quicktime pro and Flip4Mac Pro again after I bought the Retina Macbook. Today I did it again but still get the same OSStatus error -50. I guess there is some old file that has to be removed. Flip4Mac comes with an uninstaller. Quicktime does not.
I read that his could be something with security that is why I mention the problem with the zip files as well.
