File association error

I have just installed (and repaired twice with a reinstall to be certain) PC Suite on XP SP2. When I click "File Manager", "Contacts" or "Messages" I get the following error. "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action". As you can see I have done a few installations to rid myself of the error but to no avail. Anyone got any idea what file association is required? (I have the software running perfectly well on another machine running Win2000SP4)

Had a similarproblem but with IE in Vista not finding Windows Media Player as my default player when viewing imbedded videos within an IE page.Seems it has something to do with the uninstall of PC suite.
From the Vista forums I was given the following link - ran the registry fix and was able to reassociate my default list

Hope this helps

  • File association error causing problems with ms/office update file download

While I was finding my way around OSX I made the error of selecting a wrong file type association when trying to install MS Office 2008. I associated their installer file with the 'Console' utility and now, when Office 2008 wants to auto-update, it downloads a file (to where, I can't tell) and then tries to install it using Console.
I understand the method of changing file associations when you have a file of the appropriate type, using file info, and Open With (tick 'Always Open With This App').... but this is not a blanket association... I have to associate it specifically with the MS Office Installation files... and because they are downloaded in the background, I can't find them to use this method.
I also understand that the settings for file associations are stored in this file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist.
But I can't edit this without knowing what I'm doing
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks!

    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
If you like, you can move that to the desktop and the next time you run the same process, a new one will be created.
If for any reason this borks other settings, you can put the original back if you need to, but I believe you'll be fine, in which case then simply delete the original.
Don't bother editing it since you lack those skills, etc.

  • File association error with office 2007 documents

I recently upgraded from office 2003 to office 2007 and now Bridge CS3 will not open my office documents with office 2007. I looked in the file associations preferences and did not see doc, docx, xls, xlsx, etc. in there at all. I have also looked at re-installing just Bridge CS3 but there is not an option for that when I put in the installation discs.
    Please help...

This is not a Bridge problem! You would need to get it working from explorer first, you need to setup the file associations! after you have done that you should be able to open your documents from Explorer and Bridge.

  • "Error occurred in deployment step 'Retract Solution': The solution does not have a WSP file associated with it." occurs while deploying from Visual studio

    HI,
I get this error "Error occurred in deployment step 'Retract Solution': The solution does not have a WSP file associated with it. " when deploying my project from visual studio 2010 to
SharePoint 2010 site. I tried restarting IIS, but it didn't help. This application used to work fine until the server crashed during the deployment process. All the other applications on the same server works fine also. Any ideas how to fix this issue?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi
    AM ,
    Thank you for your posting!
According to your error message, it says your solution does not have a WSP file associated with it. Take a look at the file system.  After you Right Click -> Deploy Solution on the VS Solution, there
should be a .wsp file at <Solution Directory>\bin\<debug|release>.
Also the error can be occurring when the developer try to deploy solutions over pre-existing solutions  with material changed  in the solution.  Go to your Central Administration Site and then
Operations and then Solution Management.  Make sure that there not already a solution with the same name deployed or installed there.  If there is, remove it and try deploying again.
And you could look in logs and find if there is a below error in ULS log (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS).
Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • LCM: "Download files associated the object" error

    All,
I am testing on how I can use LCM in my QA process. I was creating a brand new WebI report in development environment and successfully promoted that report to test environment. Then, I modified that WebI report in development. Next, I wanted to promote that modified report into test. However, this time, LCM is giving an error "Download files associated with the object" error. I am puzzled because I haven't changed any permissions, I only added a new column in the report.
I have enabled the "Download files associated with the object" everywhere and still to no avail....
Can anyone give me a pointer what could have gone wrong?
Similar error was thrown out for Cyrstal report when I tried to promote a modified report but was not happening for a brand new report.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi,
what version of LCm are you using?

  • File Associations: Preview no longer working correctly

Over the past week or so, Preview has been misbehaving for me.
If I double-click on a file that's supposed to be opened with Preview by default (.jpg, .pdf files, e.g.) it says "unexpected error occurred." If I then right-click on the file and select Open With and select Preview, it says "You cannot open the application 'Preview' because it is in the
    Trash."
Which is utter hogwash, because Preview is NOT in the trash, it's right where it's supposed to be in the Applications folder. Launching Preview from there and then opening the target file works fine, but doesn't solve
    the original problem.
So there's a file association problem, but try as I might, I cannot figure out how to correct this. A reboot did not help.
Based on the fact that the default for opening files is "Preview (3.0.7)" and then further on down the menu there's also "Preview (3.0.9)", methinks that there's still some part of the OS that thinks the old version should be used but cannot find it. Try as I might, nothing's correcting the problem.
Another way I tried to fix the problem was this: used the Finder to select one of the document types I am trying to open (pdf, etc.). Right clicked on that document and chose 'Get Info'. Under the 'Open With' section went through the motions of explicitly choosing Applications\Preview again (then hit the 'Change All...' button).
File permissions have been repaired, the plists for Preview have been deleted - I can't think of anything else to try.

  • How to restore file associations in Bridge CS5?

    Hi
Some time ago I somehow lost file associations in Adobe Bridge CS5. Now when I doubleclick a RAW file (Canon .CR2 file) I get Firefox, when I doubleclick a JPG I get FastStone and when I doubleclick a PSD file nothing happens at all. Also Photoshop is not in the options I get by right-clicking photos and choosing "Open with...".
I have tried [ Edit -> Preferences... -> File Type Associations -> Reset to Default Associations ] , but that didn't help.
Also when I look in the File Type Association dialog, my file types are set to "Explorer Settings", and Photoshop is not among the other options. I don't know how this uses to be (if associations are defined in Bridge or it uses Explorer/Windows settings?), but how do I easily recreate original setup from when I installed Photoshop?

    Hi Neil
Thanks for the answer. I'm aware I can manually setup associations one-by-one for all file types I need, but just hoped there was some easier way. I mean there's a lot of file types associated in either windows/explorer or directly in Bridge. Some that I might not know I need tomorrow.  Two things I have found out since I asked the question:
    1) The problem is probably caused by uninstalling my old CS4 after I had installed CS5. It looks like somebody experienced a similar problem by uninstalling CS3 after the installation of CS4: http://forums.adobe.com/message/1899159#1899159. So apparently a bug Adobe hasn't fixed even though it was in previous version too!? :-( I think it is only natural to keep your old version installed for some time when installing an upgrade. Just to make sure the new version works well before you uninstall the previous (And I have previous had the problem that a new version of Photoshop had a habit of freezing on my PC - or some other error I don't remember -  until Adobe released an update. So there's a reason for my behavior).
    2) I have installed a second copy of CS5 now on my secondary portable PC, and are using this to make a similar setup regarding file associations in windows/explorer and Bridge. All associations for Photoshop was lost on my primary PC, and God... there's a lot of file associations to setup again... May I recommend Adobe (if reading this) to fix this bug and/or make a script to automatically recover all associations in case of loss!

  • Quick Time Hijacks Windows File Associations Only From Web Browsers

It took me 6 hours this morning to conclusively prove that Quick Time (latest version) isn’t playing well with web browsers on my Windows XP Pro (SP3) machine (nothing new here I guess).
I develop web sites which get their content from local hard or DVD/CD drives (as opposed to from the internet). All my Windows file associations for audio/video file types point to Windows Media Player (WMP) so that when one of my web pages looks for a file type of say .mpg or .mp3, WMP is opened and the file is played. Pretty straight forward and has worked fine for years.
Some time in the last few months (and I now strongly suspect after a Quick Time update) my browsers (all of them….. IE, Firefox, and Chrome) started opening Quick Time instead of WMP when my HTML goes to open any media file type. I’ve checked my Windows file associations which all still point to WMP. I also note that when I open one of my media files from a file utility such as Windows Explorer or my aftermarket file utility (as opposed to from a browser), they correctly open in WMP. So…….. its only from browsers that QT hijacks my intended media player.
In Internet Explorer I’ve gone to “Manage Add-Ons” and “disabled” Quick Time. This in fact causes QT not to be opened but instead a blank web page appears containing only the browser’s little error box with a big red X in it which usually means a picture file is missing…… WMP is not launched even though it is enabled in Manage Add-Ons and QT is disabled.
The only way I’ve found to fix this problem is to uninstall Quick Time in which case everything works fine. (My objection to Quick Time as my default media player is that even the latest version doesn’t reliably play video created for Windows file types.)
Can anyone tell me how to make Quick Time co-exist on my computer without hijacking my attempts to get at WMP from browsers?
The only reason Quick Time has existed on my computer in recent years is so I have access to iTunes. I’ve uninstalled both Quick Time and iTunes till I find a solution to this problem which means iTunes isn’t selling me anything in the mean time.

I'm having the same issue that Quicktime hijacks file associations.
I recently reinstalled my copy of Windows 7 64-bit and have installed basically hardly anything on it. I have however installed iTunes (+Quicktime) for my iPhone and Winamp (and not even loaded Windows Media Player).
Basically when I uninstall Quicktime, I can just type an url in the IE8 address bar with the .mp3 extension and download and save the file there and then. Only after installing Quicktime the browser will open the .mp3 in the window and play it embedded with the Quicktime player.
This is something I do NOT want, and I am really ****** off that Quicktime just takes over this feature without asking me first!!
That being besides the point really because I also cannot find the option in Quicktime's settings to undo this!!
When I go to Quicktime's settings -> Browser -> MIME types
It just shows that .mp3 is linked to Winamp (like I want it to be), but it still opens as a Quicktime Control Object.
Reinstalling IE8, resetting its settings, disabling the iTunes & Quicktime addons, even removing the Quicktime Control Object class from the registry... Nothing worked!

  • How to change a startup file association (Connecting doesn't start ITunes)

I made an error and associated my iPod's connection with my printer control panel. So when I plug in my iPod ... my printer control panel comes up. I'd like to have it bring up ITunes. Does anybody know how I can change the file association so Itunes comes up when I plug in my IPod? Thank you.

I am answering myself here. I fixed the problem. I went to the folder under program files that held the (Brother) exe file. I zipped the entire folder, then removed the [Brother] file. I turned off ITunes and unplugged the IPod, then plugged the ipod in again. It went right to ITunes. I then "extracted" the [Brother] file to its original location. Tried it again, and the IPod was still associated with Itunes.

  • File association issue with PictureView 7.2

Unlike Apple QuickTime 7.16, QT 7.2 use 2 profiles to log per user setting info:
    File1 \C:\Documents and Settings\%current user%\Application Data\Apple Computer\QuickTime\QTPlayerSession.xml
    File2 \C:\Documents and Settings\%current user%\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\QuickTime\QuickTime.qtp
when a limited acccount user log on and run pictureView, he will receive a dialog box ask them to reset file associations. You can not supress the dialog box even you use QuickTime control pannel. This only happens for limited user account.I don't know it is either a bug of 7.2 or Apple intends to do like this.Same thing will happen to run Quicktime from a limited user account, but you can use QuickTime.qtp to solve the issue.
Any solution to solve the pictureview issue is appreciate.

    Simon,
I did a few things that solved my problem. However there could be a bunch of reason for you to get this error
For ex, Operating System Collector error or problem with the paging etc.
Can you elaborate your problem with the following details:
    1. Your observations of the errors through the SAP Management Console
    2. Your machine OS and RAM details.
    3. Are you going in for a fresh installations? or did you uninstall CE before?
May be I can help if you are facing the same issues, I did.

  • 3gpp file association in Bridge CS5 Production Premium

    Hello,
To make the issue really simple, I have a video camera on my phone that outputs video to a .3gpp file extension.
I am trying to associate Quicktime to open it as the default for Bridge.
The .3gpp or .3gp file extension is not listed in the file type association under preferences in Bridge.
Anyone know how I can set this up?
I do have the files associated with Quicktime outside of the Bridge interface, but whenever i double click the file in Bridge, it plays it in Windows Media Player.  Windows media player will play the video portion, but does not play the sound, also i cannot preview the video in Bridge.
I am using windows 7 pro 64 bit.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
