File association in Firefox ESR

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 and Firefox ESR 10.0.9 installed but the file association is not working. For example, the history window when the download request to open the folder nautilus does not start. Pdf files, jpg and others are not open with their applications.
The 16.0.1 version of Firefox installed by default works perfectly.

Try to delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox Profile Folder to reset all file actions.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Creating a profile":
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • In "Set your default programs" under Win7, file associations of Firefox are tampered!

In "Set your default programs" under the Control Panel of Windows 7, Firefox does appears in the "Programs" list on the left. But, its icon is that of Windows Media Player.
After I click on the program's name (Firefox) to display the details on the right, I notice the icon for Firefox becomes that of Windows Media Player, too. And, "Mozilla Corporation" becomes "Microsoft Corporation."
If I click on "Set this program as default", files of these types are opened by Windows Media Player, not by Firefox:
    htm, html, shtml, xht, xhtml.
So, I have to manually associate those file types with Firefox from "Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program."
To solve this problem, what registry entries should I edit?

I don't know if the extensions I use for version 19.2 suit the latest version. So, I just re-installed 19.2, and all is well now. Thank you very much for your help.
After the re-installation, I noticed there is a string value '''Firefox''' under
    ''HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\RegisteredApplications''
This registry key contains all the program names listed in '''Set your default programs'''. So, I guess that if the string '''Firefox''' points to Windows Media Player, I get the trouble.

  • How to alter file associations on Firefox for Mobile

When I click to download a .mid (midi) file, Firefox automatically launches an Autocad applicaion I have installed on my (Android) phone. Is it Firefox or the Autocad app that's taken control of that file extention ?

Firefox asks the Android OS for a list of apps that are able to open the file. Possibly opeining settings > applications > manage applications > all > autocad > clear default may allow you to select a program to open the file.

  • Wierd file associations in Firefox

Hi. I had lots of problems before with regular firefox, so I decided I'd give 'firefox-kde-opensuse' from AUR a shot. And while it's definitely better in terms of KDE intergaton, there still persists a rather funny bug.
The problem is that with some files (not every one of them seems to suffer from this, mind you) when I click the link and select "Open With:" there is already an appropriate program chosen, like Wine for .exe files. But when I click OK and the file finishes its download,  I get a prompt from KMozillaHelper asking which program to use. I tried writing wine, selecting "Bind this program to this filetype" etc. and still the same window appears every time I try to open .exe file. It happens quite often, actually, not only with .exe files. So, for example, I can try to open RTF file and it says "Open with: OpenOffice Writer", I click OK, and then KMozillaHelper asks me what program should be used to open this RTF file. What's funny, is that when I click the radio button to "Save" and then double-click the file in the Downloads window, it opens with the associated program with ease.
But, for example, I tried googling "offer filetype:rtf" and when I click a link in Google (seems to work that way with every rtf document I found), it immediately starts to download and opens in OpenOffice. But when someone sends me .rtf as an email attachment, for example, this "Open With:" problem starts to appear once again.
Please, can you help me? ;( I also had the same problem with regular Firefox, I have no idea what's going on.

Try Y-Tasks with the File Types plugin:

  • When firefox last updated, it would no longer open. I have tried several times to do clean install. Removed folders, emoved registry files associated with firefox. I did a system restore, which seemed worse. Now back to original problem. This error mess

After uninstalling program, I have also deleted all folders in program flolder associated with mozilla firefox; However the last time none had been put there. Also went into registry and deleted firefox named files. Now just going in circles.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== update downloaded a few days ago and computer restarted.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, maybe after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

  • Want to always open torrent files with my torrent client but I do not see .torrent as a file association in Firefox

using Tixati as my default torrent client and when I open a torrent file it automatically says save and I select open and the box where it says always open this type of file is greyed out. I looked in the extensions on Firefox but .torrent is not an extension. How do I make Firefox always open torrent files? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

  • Firefox/Thunderbird File Associations

I installed Firefox and Thunderbird in KDE4 but every time I go to open a link in Thunderbird or a file in Firefox, it wants me to chose a program to open the files with. I installed GNOME and made sure that the application settings in both are correct, but Firefox still has wants me to specify an application for a zip and a web browser to open links in Thunderbird.
    How can I fix this?

Well, it would  be enough for me, if i could make <dolphin> my default file manager. But in Edit->Preferences->Applications i can't see, how associate it. There is no system.file.mime (or whatever ), and i don't know how to add it.
But problem is, that firefox uses gnome mime types by default, and further xfce4 (or xfce4 just uses gnome, don't know exactly), but no kde.
I found  on ubuntu forum link to http://luisfpg.blogspot.com/2009/04/mak … -kdes.html, where *all file associations are asignet to xdg-open*.
Unfortunately this solution didn't work. <xdg-open> from within firefox, uses xfce4 associations, but <xdg-open> launched from my shell, uses kde associations.

  • Quicktime 7.4.5 plays only part of mp3 / Firefox file associations

    Hi, folks:
I searched for official quicktime support, but found none. I take it that quicktime is a nonsupported product?
I have three serious errors with Quicktime 7.4.5 running under Firefox 2 under Win/XP Pro SP2.
    1. It plays only the tail end of certain mp3s. Windoze media player, winamp, neuro all play the entire mp3. Here is an example:
    http://www.davidlevinent.com/varietydance_party_bands/audio/jl_band_track1.mp3
This plays for only 8 seconds, but is roughly a one-minute mp3.
    2. Quicktime is NOT associated with mp3 files. MP3 files are associated with windows media player. Under MSIE 7, windoze media player is invoked to play mp3 files. Under Firefox 2, Quicktime is invoked (I get the single-bar player in the middle of the browser window).
    3. Since quicktime is hozed under Firefox, how do I delete it as an add-on under firefox.
    Additional notes:
    - I mistakenly installed quicktime pro a year ago.
    - The above problems occur under quicktime players 7.1.3 and 7.4.5 - which I just upgraded to.
    Thanks for your Help!

  • ERROR Registering: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\AccessibleMarshal.dll and failure to install

I downloaded and extracted the latest ESR file (Version 10.0.7) this morning. Running SETUP.EXE with no command line switches fails to install Firefox. Ths installation log indicates that the installation has taken 1 second to complete execution. In the Installation log I see the following:
    DLL Registration
    ** ERROR Registering: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\AccessibleMarshal.dll **
In the C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox folder there is an uninstall folder as well as an install.log file. No other files or folders exist. Mozilla Firefox does appear in the Programs and Features but shows an icon associated with an unknown application.
I am logged in with a low-rights account but running the SETUP.EXE executable from an elevated command prompt. This should be sufficient to elevate the DLL registration.
Running on Windows 7 SP1 with all applicable updates. I've noticed several other people that have experienced this issue but nobody has a solution.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.
    *C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 10.0.x ESR: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

  • File associations in Bridge CC after updating to CC 2014

I am facing a problem with the file association settings in Bridge CC after having updated my other creative suite programs to version CC 2014.
In previous version I had the option when opening eg. PDF file to chose "open with", and then chose Illustrator or Photoshop. This option is no longer available. When using the Preference menu under file association I can only change the default settings to be either Acrobat or for some reason Firefox. When browsing for Illustrator or Photoshop and choosing the program the PDF file will only open in Illustrator or Photoshop as default not Acrobat as it is suppose to. Does anybody have a solution to this problem.

Thank you for the answer, but is doesn't fix the problem. The explorer settings lets me open pdf files in Acrobat, Illustrator or Photoshop.
The problem is that Bridge doesn't allow me to open pdf files in Illustrator.
When trying to solve the problem by altering the file type association settings, browsing and choosing Illustrator CC 2014, the pdf files will then open by default in Illustrator, and this is not what i want. I want the option to chose, open with Illustrator, and still have Acrobat as the default program.
Anybody know how to fix this?

  • File Association, Open File, Edit File

Vibe is told to support > 400 file formats and that the file viewing capabilities are provided by Oracle Outside In viewer technology that supports over 500 unstructured file formats.
Testing with Firefox 33.1 on Linux desktops and Vibe 3.4 on SLES11SP3, the following basic file management options beyond Download/Save and possibly View, are available for some typical file types:
    PDF
+ Opening in the browser pdf preview
    DWG
    + Open with
    ODT
    + Open with
    + Edit
    DOC
    + Open with
    + Edit
    DOCX
    TXT
    + Edit
I wonder why "Open with" and "Edit" is not available for DOCX, as long as the document was intially created with LibreOffice on the Linux desktop?
In my opinion also complete file action options should be brought up in a context menu by right-click (as usual in File managers) on any file in the folder Files list.
Is there any configuration file on Vibe that can be edited to complement the available file actions for DOCX files etc ?
The Vibe Admin guide has a chapter about Configuring File Associations for Edit in Place Applications, but I'm not sure how to do this and if this will help here https://www.novell.com/documentation.../b10u30w2.html
Else, in Firefox Edit>Preferences>Applications it is possible to set Actions for various file types (content), and in Gnome 3,x System settings | Details | Default Applications can be selected.
    Thanks,
    Terje J. Hanssen

    Hi Pawel,
I tried first as user to change the default editor settings for .docx to libreoffice according to the documentation
    https://www.novell.com/documentation...s.html#bk59mem
but with no difference as result.
Click on the .docx file pop up the Opening .docx widget which only offers the file options Cancel and Save.
There is still no "Open with" option available.
There is still not 'Edit This File' relevance tab available, nor contains the 'File Actions' any Edit option.
Any idea why the .docx file type is missing this fundamental file management features in Vibe?

  • I recently upgraded from Firefox ESR version 10 to version 17.0.7, and the Serch by Name function no longer works.

I was using Firefox ESR 10.0.11 and was forced to upgrade to 17.0.7 yesterday, even though my cfg file is set to not allow updates. Since the upgrade, the Search by Name function has stopped working, i.e.: I used to be able to type "yahoo" into the address bar and go straight to yahoo; now, when I type anything that is not a complete URL into the address bar, it goes to allied.com. I have already gone into about:config and changed keyword:URL to http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q= and have also installed the Search By Name add-on. Neither of these work. Please help me.

Thank you for your reply. However, had you read my issue in full, you'd have noticed that I have ALREADY downloaded and installed the "Browse By Name" add-on, and it DID NOT work.

  • How to find out WHY Flash Player 11.2.202.236 plugins crash in Firefox ESR 10.0.6 on 64-bit Linux

Flash crashes dozens of times a day and I am trying to figure out WHY.
I have the recommended latest player & browser for my operating system.
The only diagnostic information I have is that the crashes seem to occur when a few tabs are open with videos loading in them and when any one video is closed, flash then locks up the browser for about 30 seconds, and then ALL the videos that were loading in separate tabs are dumped & say that the plugin crashed.
Details about the system from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html
    1. Flash player version: 11.2.202.236
    2. Operating System: Linux 2.6.32-279.2.1.el6.x86_64 (64-bit)
    3. Browser: Firefox Firefox ESR 10.0.6
This is the correct set of components.
Debugging, I've modified the about:config dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs to any value of 10 seconds to 45 seconds (the default), but it doesn't seem to make a difference in the number of crashes.
Any idea how to get more diagnostic information?

Unfortunately, there's nothing in "/var/crash" after the numerous flash crashes so I'm not sure where to look next.
    The 'dmesg' command reports:
    npviewer.bin[16884]: segfault at 340 ip 00007f26bda22ab0 sp 00007fffa8abbe78 error 6 in libflashplayer.so[7f26bd68d000+1179000]
Bringing up the CentOS 6 "Applications->System Tools->System Monitor", I see the numerous Flash crashes appear to have some relationship with "npviewer.bin", which uses the "/usr/lib64/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so" shared object module and which has numerous "open files", one of which is "/home/<username>/.xsession-errors".
Looking at "/home/<username>/.xsession-errors", we find these lines, which may be useful.

  • How to restore file associations in Bridge CS5?

    Hi
Some time ago I somehow lost file associations in Adobe Bridge CS5. Now when I doubleclick a RAW file (Canon .CR2 file) I get Firefox, when I doubleclick a JPG I get FastStone and when I doubleclick a PSD file nothing happens at all. Also Photoshop is not in the options I get by right-clicking photos and choosing "Open with...".
I have tried [ Edit -> Preferences... -> File Type Associations -> Reset to Default Associations ] , but that didn't help.
Also when I look in the File Type Association dialog, my file types are set to "Explorer Settings", and Photoshop is not among the other options. I don't know how this uses to be (if associations are defined in Bridge or it uses Explorer/Windows settings?), but how do I easily recreate original setup from when I installed Photoshop?

    Hi Neil
Thanks for the answer. I'm aware I can manually setup associations one-by-one for all file types I need, but just hoped there was some easier way. I mean there's a lot of file types associated in either windows/explorer or directly in Bridge. Some that I might not know I need tomorrow.  Two things I have found out since I asked the question:
    1) The problem is probably caused by uninstalling my old CS4 after I had installed CS5. It looks like somebody experienced a similar problem by uninstalling CS3 after the installation of CS4: http://forums.adobe.com/message/1899159#1899159. So apparently a bug Adobe hasn't fixed even though it was in previous version too!? :-( I think it is only natural to keep your old version installed for some time when installing an upgrade. Just to make sure the new version works well before you uninstall the previous (And I have previous had the problem that a new version of Photoshop had a habit of freezing on my PC - or some other error I don't remember -  until Adobe released an update. So there's a reason for my behavior).
    2) I have installed a second copy of CS5 now on my secondary portable PC, and are using this to make a similar setup regarding file associations in windows/explorer and Bridge. All associations for Photoshop was lost on my primary PC, and God... there's a lot of file associations to setup again... May I recommend Adobe (if reading this) to fix this bug and/or make a script to automatically recover all associations in case of loss!
    /Stig
