File Blaster

"Back in the day" when we had OSX server, perhaps version 10.1 , running with Macintosh Manager there was a utility called File Blaster which could be used to send or "blast" files into special places we might need. For example if we wanted to put something into each users home directory we could do that.
I never actually used it myself but often heard others talking about how easy it was to complete some very tedious tasks.
Now I find myself needing something like it and can't find it.
I have upgraded our older OSX 10.2.8 G4 tower servers to Xserves with 10.4.7. Before the upgrade I exported all of my users so I would have a file with all of their user names, short names, user ID's etc so I could "reattach" the users to their original home directories which I also moved to the new servers. Now that everything is working, everyone has their previous, original home directory, there are a few files which they need now but didn't have in the previous setup.
If these were NEW users I would put these files into the USER TEMPLATE so that each newly created home directory will have these files. But the home directories that were previously created do not get files from this template.
Is there anyway to easily get these files into each users already existing Library folder? I have about 450 users who need these files, I am not looking forward to putting them in there one by one.
Thanks for any suggestions,
John
iBOOK G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Perhaps I did not make my question clear. I needed to insert a folder with several preset configuration files into the Library folders for 450+ existing users whose home directories are on a sharepoint located on a 10.4.7 server. (actually 2 seperate servers with 200 + users)
While I do use Apple Remote Desktop to manage, move files and send update packages to our over 3000 MAC clients. I am not sure how I would be able to use ARD to insert folders into individual home directories located in a server sharepoint. But I will look into that.
I was able to solve my problem when I located File Blaster. Then, I used Passenger to easily adjust the permissions as required
FileBlaster 1.5.2 Carbon from http://www.ugmedia.com.au/ and
Passenger 3.5.5 from http://macinmind.com/
I am not in anyway affiliated with these products but they do work and are time savers. BUT BE CAREFUL as with any powerful tool, you can mess things up with them too.
Thanks,
John

• Oracle by Example content-Damaged zip file?

I've downloaded Oracle by Example content : download.zip
file (32,472 KB).
The zip file seems to damaged. I've managed to repair it with winrar and extracted it with winzip but got the following message:
Extracting blast.zip
bad CRC 00000000 (should be 2fe2b7c5)
Warning: the size of the extracted file (0) does not match the uncompressed size (2837) recorded in the zip file.
which means that I've lost the file blast.zip included in the archive.
Could you please repair the archive and post it back?!

• Can't install drivers for Sound Blaster Live! No ctzapxx.exe file

As above, I had to reboot my system and used a disk eraser as I wanted a clean slate. So obviously I have to reinstall the drivers for diff things such as sound card, USB 2.0 card etc. Everything goes fine until I get to installing the drivers for the Sound Blaster Li've!?I inserted the disc and installed the drivers, then I restarted Windows as requested. When it loads back up it'sdetects the sound card and trys to install the driver, but it can not find the driver anywhere, not on the PC or on the CD. After looking into things I thought I would go down the approach using the ctzapxx.exe file mentioned here - <a target="_blank"]http://93.95.7.84/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=4,E=000000000033636605,K=5285,Sxi=8,Answer2655 5=obj(26555)bj(26559)?But for some reason this file isn't on the CD, which is what I think is stopping me from installing the drivers. My OS is Windows XP SP2. I have files that a similar in name to ctzapxx.exe , but they don't seem to do anything. I am usual ok with computer software but hardware and BIOS etc isn't my strong point as you may have gathered. I'm hoping someone knows how to sort this as it is a real pain not having any sound. Any help will be much appreciated! If you need anymore details to help identify the problem I'll provide them ASAP. Thanks in advance,Andy

the unipack download from creative will not work. first, try asking around if somebody else has the same 5. creative card as yours. the only solution for your problem is to use the installation cd that came with your creative card. I lost mine so i went to a pc repair shop and inquired if they have a copy of such cd - they normally do.
. you need to remove all the programs concerning creative from add remove programs. 2. shut down, and remove the sound card. 3. turn the pc on and let windows boot normally. install the the softwares and drivers using the cd that came with the box. 4. shut down and install the sound card 5. turn on the pc. windows will find a new hardware and will find the right drivers bec you have previously installed them. There is absolutely no need to reformat your hard dri've.

• How do i send an html file exported from muse as email blast with images and live links?

My question it:
How do i send an html file exported from muse as email blast with images and live links?
I have designed a "website" in adobe muse and exported it as an html file. I am not sure how to send my .html file in an email!
Best,
Nicole

Unfortunately, the answer is, you don't. The requirements for HTML displayed in an e-mail reader are very different than those for HTML displayed in a browser. The output of Muse won't work as an HTML e-mail. You could upload the Muse site as a website and provide a link to it in an e-mail, but the HTML generated by Muse is not suitable for direct display by an e-mail program.

• I hate that blasted file with that blasted exclamation point!

I have a 20GB, 3rd Generation ipod (the one with the buttons on top). I got it used this past summer. For the most part it has worked perfectly up until a month ago. Early Febuary my ipod started showing that file with the exclamation point. I tried to connect it to my computer as soon as possible, but my computor said it could not recognize whatever was connected to it's USB port. My ipod just starts showing the Apple logo and then the file w/!then it resets itself and does the process all over again. I can restart it, but even if it's in disk mode the computer still wont recognize it. I thought it would have to do with that itunes 1-10-2006 version update, but since my ipod isn't even recognized there must be something I'm missing. I've been without my ipod for over a month now and I've been living off of cd's and it *****! I need my ipod back...could anyone help me out?

Here is some hope. I've had that problem many a time. This solution will not cure the problem, but it will alieviate it for a certain period of time.
This is not a joke either.
Drop it onto its back onto a thick carpet from a little less than waist height. It will snap the arm on the hardrive back into the track. I have only had to repeat this 2x in the past 9 months. It works pretty well and almost always works after 1 try. Its better than going and waiting at the genius bar for 2+ hrs to have your ipod sent away for 1 week and then given a refurbished.

• My Past, Present & Future with Creative Sound Blaster cards

I wrote a small product review of a Z-series card i regrettably purchased and creative responded. I replied to them and copied+pasted it here. First and foremost please understand this is just an open letter talking about my love for and mostly positive experiences with the Sound Blaster line of cards since the mid-late 1990s.
Attached is an annotated picture of almost all the Creative hardware I've bought over the years.
Take a good long look at that picture. Think about how many songs have been played through those devices, think of how many movies have been heard through those devices, think of how many games made me jump out of my seat from sound effects heard through those devices, and lastly think how many thousands of hours this amounts to.
STOP READING and LOOK at that attached PICTURE.
I use the word 'almost' because it does not include the card I recently purchased off e-bay, which was listed as (and was) mint condition new, and cost me $250.... a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series card.
If the direction Creative is going to continue to go is the direction that it's been going over the past handful of years this will be the last Creative product myself or anyone i influence or make purchasing decisions for will ever buy. Being in my mid 30s I'd say you'll miss out on at least another 20-30+ years of future product purchases.
Below is my address of your reply to my review of your product in a piece by piece layout:
"Based on user feedback we've done the following:
- Take up less disk space"
I run two 128GB SSDs in a hardware based (LSI Logic 8704ELP) raid-0 array so the disk footprint of drivers and software is important to me but whatever space you reduced your driver to is trivial.
%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Creative\(ALchemy, AudioCS AutoMode Switcher, Console Launcher, Shared Files, ShareDLL,THX Console, Volume Panel)
in total take up about 100MB of space. reducing this means NOTHING because it does not allow for more hefty software (Games or Design/Drafting/3D-Modelling Software) to be installed. Now if say your driver and software had a 1GB footprint and you reduced it to 500MB that would be significant because 500MB is enough space to account for one or 2 of average installation footprints of the products in the Adobe Creative Suite. Reducing the size from 100MB to 25MB/50MB/75MB is moot.
"- Optimized controls for touch screens"
This point is amusing, why? because you are making the same mistake Microsoft made with Windows 8 & Metro. Most people who buy a creative sound card are putting it in a PC and do not have a touchscreen. I don't manage a lot of computers but the ~200 i am responsible for bypassed Windows 8 (maybe even Windows 9, we'll see) and either moved from Windows XP to Windows 7 or they will be staying with Windows 7 for the foreseeable future. The touch centric design of Windows 8 is a significant part of this decision despite all the things Microsoft did that i think are steps forward (like better native support for multiple display devices to name one example).
"- Streamlined the interface so it's easier to navigate (removed "modes" and have all controls available regardless what you want to use the card for)."
Dumbing-down a product to reach a greater audience is walking the fine line of Quality vs. Quantity. Why you've sacrificed significant Quality to increase Quantity i do not know. While I will agree making 1 interface instead of 3 can be a potential step forward you did more than streamlining the user interface- you removed prominent, useful, and important features.
"- Better tie in with the Windows audio sub-system."
Through out the decade the only problems I experienced with Windows and my Creative products i can count on one hand. The first would be when Microsoft abandoned DirectSound and moved to an UAA based audio stack in Vista forward and your company dropped the ball and Daniel_K picked it up and made working drivers for your products and you went after him... I was one of the people who used his working drivers to make your sound card work properly when you failed to do so. Second was the fact that you people charged for ALchemy when the move to Vista occurred... this was truly a sh*ty thing to do. The third was the X-RAM causing a BSOD (STOP 0x50 - PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA) in windows on a regular random basis because of your device drivers and the best working solution was to disable using the X-RAM on the card- a selling point of the cards to begin with (albeit in years prior).
Allow me to elaborate some more while I have time since it's sunday night and the family is busy with other things and will be off to bed thereafter.
Creative's device drivers and software has always been a point of contention. You don't make the install discs available for download on your website for starters. This is a fascist move on your part. Your driver installation procedure and reliability is hit or miss. I personally have not had a lot of trouble with the drivers (only a few hiccups here and there) but i have read on the forums where all sorts of other people have (I'm not in disagreeing that their problems are partially their fault, but that's the price of running Windows instead of buying a Mac). My experience with your driver software suites over the years have been mostly (A) "When it works as expected it's sheer aural bliss beyond that of any other sound card in existence! THIS is why 'Sound Blaster Compatible' was what other companies put on their products, because Creative set the standard for everyone else to meet." but also sometimes (B) "everything installed and worked fine but now something is corrupt and not all the speakers have sound coming from them or the sound is all screwed up and the driver won't uninstall/reinstall/update correctly because it's corrupt and it's not deleting the driver files because windows has the files locked and safe mode isn't helping so now i have to physically remove the card from the PC and try to completely clean out my system of the Creative software. I can't believe they went after Daniel_K the way they did, i wish he'd come back and fix their drivers. Now which box did i put that install cd in...."
There are 2 reasons I've bought Creative sound cards for over a decade now. CMSS 3D when listening to music while working throughout the day and EAX in videogames at night.
I remember the moment when I experienced EAX for the very first time. I was in college and over at a friend's place. He had just got a new game called Thief: The Dark Project. I remember him telling me about something new called EAX and that only Creative cards had it and that it was supposed to be awesome. About an hour later after watching and HEARING him play Thief I was hooked. Creative had secured a place for it's hardware in my budget for every PC i built from that day forward.
Being that I've worked from home for about a decade now I will listen to music while I work and get in an hour or so of gaming at night as time allows. Straight off the bat the first time i ticked that box for CMSS 3D long long ago and heard music coming from every speaker in my home office i was amazed and overwhelmed. Then when you introduced the ability to set the individual speaker distance and volume from the listening position it was the icing on the cake. I was surround by sound. It was SHEER AURAL BLISS. This feature called CMSS 3D would become the second reason I purchased and recommended Creative sound cards for the decade to come.
As i stated in my review, the only reason i bought a new sound card was because the motherboard I was purchasing had no PCI slots (I remember when motherboards stopped having ISA slots as well...). Before making my purchase I read. I read a lot. I read about the changes you made with the X-Fi Titanium HD and then the Recon3D, and the more i read the more a feeling of apprehension began to take hold. Then i got to reading about the Z-series and read about some of the positive changes between it and the Recon3D line of cards and I became a bit more hopeful.
Sadly my apprehension was spot on... Listening to music was a worse experience when compared to my X-Fi Platinum (or even my old Audigy 2)... and did not even come close to justifying the purchase of the card compared to just using the integrated sound capabilities of my motherboard, an ASRock Z87 OC Formula/ac. But none the less I still had EAX to fall back on right? wrong... I installed a couple games, some new and some old, some with EAX and some without, and for about 2 weeks i played a bit of each one to see how the card handled new and old games. Sadly EAX compatibility didn't even matter because it was overshadowed by poor directional audio reproduction... that same front center speaker that was overbearing when listening to music was noticeable when gaming to the point that it was negatively affecting my gaming experience. I tweaked and toggled every setting i could and even uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and software to try to mitigate this but to my dismay i could not. It was at this point I went weighing my options... and looking for an X-Fi Titanium (NON-HD!) and suffered the capitalist price gouging that occurs in such supply & demand situations... at least i talked the guy down from his original asking price of $300. I bit the bullet on this because chances are this is going to be the last Creative card i ever own...
I've had my Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series installed for just over a week now. Everything sounds precise and as it should when you have a quality piece of hardware paired with quality software. Directional audio in games comes from all speakers appropriately and not excessively from the front center speaker unless it's supposed to. Ambient music floats through the air all through out the day creating that familiar feeling of sheer aural bliss as it did before. The only downside is I'm getting to experience the problems other people have with this card (strange loud static-like warble EMI type noise coming from speakers, unaffected by windows volume control) but I have found a work around that I'm using on the rare occasion this happens (disable the device in device manager, re-enable device in device manager).
Chances are what i've written above is perhaps an opening soliloquy of the requiem for the Creative Sound Blaster, the card that defined an industry and the company that turned it's back on it. I don't expect anything to come from this letter and I don't expect a meaningful reply from you. You'll probably write me justifying your decisions you've made with your product line and offer some false sincerity about how you are happy i am enjoying my price-gouged discontinued soundcard i had to buy off e-bay because your current line of products are not a step back in your eyes because of the profits they turn. This generation of customers who buy your Platinum HD, or Reco3D or Z-series line of cards probably oblivious to what they are missing out on (through no fault of their own), funny how the bliss of ignorance works and lines your pockets...
It saddens me that i had to buy a discontinued product off e-bay because it's a better product than what your company currently offers. I wish this wasn't the way things turned out. When you dropped the fun presets and finite control of the EAX effects during the transition from the Audigy to the X-Fi line of cards I noticed but since they were not the main reason I owned a Creative card I tolerated it. But now you've gone and ruined the features that were the reasons i bought Creative cards, and this I will not oblige.
My Creative Hardware.jpg

@To the OP:
I own a X-Fi Elite Pro for the past 8 years now.
Since there, this card has faithfullly seen me through 3 major PC upgrades.
I'm currently at a point where, very sadly, much of what you've described is also weighing on my decision to not go for a Z line.
@Creative:
I do hope you're listening and can come up with a solution to a simply design feature - namely a fully working Stereo Surround, like the one that was available in the X-Fi line of cards via CMSS-3D.

Thanks in advance :)

Its a known bug. The default tryLock() method calls the parametered
tryLock method as follows
tryLock(0,Long.MAX_VALUE,false);unfortunately under linux the parameter Long.MAX_VALUE is too big for
the underlying OS file locking. This causes the IOException to be thrown
It has been fixed in version 1.4.1 i believe.

• My macbook pro is lagging, freezing, and fan runs at full blast. How can I fix it?

When I start up my 2010 Macbook Pro now, the fan starts running as soon as the spinning gear appears below the apple logo, the boot up is insanely slow, the mouse doesn't track well with my trackpad movements, and trying to open programs often leads to a non-responsive program with the pinwheel of death spinning for minutes at a time.  I try to shut it down (takes approx. 20 min. now) and when the screen goes black, the fan continues full blast.  After that I can boot up the computer and it runs normally, but the whole process takes about 50 minutes longer than it should, especially with a relatively new SSD (~ 8 months old).  Has anyone seen anything like this before or does anyone know how to fix it?
It loads well enough in safe boot, and I've tried cutting out most of the apps that launch at startup with poor results.  I've also tried resetting the SMC with equally poor results.  I need help!

• Creative Sound Blaster Audigy ZS And Vista Driver installation prob

HI!
I encounter Installation problems with that file:
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Value/SE/LS and Sound Blaster Li've! 24-bit XP and Windows Vista Pack .04.0077
I Use Vista 64Bit Ultimate and when I try to install this package I have an error message after my language selection. Is there a known issue for this
Thanks!
Julien

estebandit wrote:

Yes it is called trying to install the wrong driver for your card. Will work much better if you try installing the correct one,
SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_000.exe
Also helps if you click on the "Show Details" link on the download page, then you would see that the one you tried to install doesn't support your card,
Requirements:
Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit, Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 or Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004
Sound Blaster Audigy Value/SE/LS, or Sound Blaster Li've! 24-bit audio devices
whereas the correct driver shows the following,
This download supports the following audio devices only:
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy including Platinum and Platinum eX series
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 including Platinum, Platinum eX, and Value series
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS including Platinum and Platinum Pro series

• Sound Blaster Instability - Are you affected? (Stability Test for "Squealing", et

I've created a test that works on my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS with my particular hardware configuration as a proof of concept of the instability ( "high-pitched squealing" ) issues I have. (I have an ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard.) I am seeking to find out if it "works" for other people with squealing issues (i.e. triggers them).
Do our problems really have common symptoms, or a common source? I hope we can find that out, and ideally this would be a step toward that.
I believe it would be helpful for people who have problems with their cards to post some system information, along with descriptions of what the problems are.
Some useful system information to post would be . Motherboard, 2. CPU, 3. Video Card, 4. Sound Card, 5. Operating System, 6. Sound Driver and version, 7. Power Supply.
.. and then whether you have problems with Snap-Crackle-Pop (SCP), High-Pitched Squealing (HPS), BSODs, or other errors.
For example, here's my information:
. ASUS P5N-E SLI
2. Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
3. ATI X800XT
4. Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
5. Windows XP Pro SP2
6. Creative drivers, 5.2.4.96 (SBAX_WBUP2_LB_2_09_006)
7. Cooler Master iGreen Power 600W
I experience HPS and BSODs. Typical times for the sound test to fail for me are between 5 seconds and 2 minutes.
Some information is better than none. It's not necessary to give complete system information if you don't know it all. But the most important information would be what motherboard you have, what sound card you have, what problems you experience (if any) and whether or not the test results in instability for you.
IMPORTANT: It's important to note that you are running this test AT YOUR OWN RISK, and while the files included don't inherently cause harm, it is possible for data corruption to occur if your system is affected by this issue.
These key files are needed in order to perform the test: a MIDI and a high-definition audio file (in this case, a high-definition (24-bit/48kHz) WAVE of near-silence). These are included in the zip file I have linked to below. According to CreativeSkeptic, MIDI playback makes high utilization of the PCI bus, so this may be why the problem is caused so easily this way.
I would be interested in hearing your results if you have experienced the high-pitched squealing in games or even if you haven't.
You can hear an example of what may happen if you experience instability .
Sound Blaster Test.zip at Wikiupload.com
Or.. Sound_blaster_test.Zip by Bigupload.Com
(Note: The zip file is around 50KB in size, but it expands to over 42MB. This is due to the high-definition nature of the 5-minute wave file necessary to induce this problem in affected systems.)
This test will measure the stability of your Sound Blaster in your
particular system configuration. It is tested with Windows XP and
Windows Media Player , though these *may* not be essential for the
functioning of the test.
WARNING:
CLOSE ALL RUNNING PROGRAMS TO AVOID DATA LOSS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
Instructions:
. Open silence.wav in Windows Media Player. To do so, you can drag it
onto the Windows Media Player shortcut in this folder.
2. Then, open the Play Midi shortcut.
Note:
This test will ONLY work if your system is using standard or full
hardware sound acceleration. In addition, your system must be using
your Sound Blaster as its MIDI interface directly. Software synthesizers
will not trigger the problem.
You can tell if your system has become unstable based on the
corrupted nature of the instruments played by the MIDI. It will
begin to sound odd and unnatural, with random notes inserted
here and there. It will be clear to you that this has happened.
For me, it doesn't take more than a few minutes before the instability
appears.
If this is the case, it is recommended that you do one of two things:
- Press the RESET button on your computer.
- Pull the power plug, if you have no reset button.
This is to avoid data loss associated with a blue screen of death
that would normally occur if you did not take these measures to
prevent it.
If you do experience these stability issues, you are at risk of BSOD's
when gaming or other playback problems. Please report this in the forum.
To hear a sample case of instability, visit the following URL:

My X-Fi XtremeGamer passes this "test". No BSODs, etc. But I've discovered my computer has problems beyond sound card issues (I didn't even notice them until recently).
In other words, I've seen firsthand (whether this is true for the majority or not) that my issues with the Audigy 2 ZS don't translate exactly over to the X-Fi XtremeGamer, so if you have an X-Fi don't expect problems with this test, but by all means try if you want to see for sure.
(One problem remains from the Audigy 2 ZS, however: randomly skipping ahead in videos or certain audio streams. It doesn't happen with onboard audio, but my tendency is still to call this a system problem unrelated to the sound card because it doesn't happen on my old PC.)
(Oh, and I know I'm replying to my own post, so don't think I'm nuts. I just thought it would be appropriate to report my experience with my new card in another post.)Message Edited by sireebob on 03-27-20072:24 PM

• Vista drivers problems Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Noteb

First thing to do: haveyour systemchecked out, if windows says the hardware is failing there may really be something wrong with it.
If the SB card works in an XP machine there may be a problem in the the PCI slot or controller on the motherboard, either way have a tech shop look at it. If thehardware allchecks out: before putting the card back in completely delete the old driver and software, download the new one without installing it, then put the card in and windows should try to auto-install with the new driver.P.S. the platinum version is the one with thecontrol panel that slots into a dri've bay, if you have one of those, it's a platinum, if not, it's a regulHi all, how are you
I have a Sony VAIO VGN-SZ430N/B notebook, and I'm trying to install Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook on it (Unfortunately, the notebook came with windows vista business from factory).
This notebook has a Texas Instruments PCMCIA controller.
Under "Device Manager" the PCMCIA controller is described as "Texas
Instruments PCI-8x2/7x2/6x2 CardBus Controller", but on Sony's
webpage the driver that seems to be related to it is "Texas
Instruments PCI74 Integrated FlashMedia Controller Driver".
It is kind of all in one solution from Texas Instruments (PCMCIA
controller, Memory Card reader, and Firewire controller).
Please, may someone help me to answer the questions bellow
1)Are there any kind of compatibility problem between this notebook PCMCIA controller (described above), and Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook
2)I've already brought this notebook to Sony's support service, so they could verify if there is any kind of hardware problem with the notebook. Sony's technician wasn't able to find any hardware problems on it, but I'm experiencing the problem described below:
2.)Every time that I plug this sound card on my notebook, and I try to install Creative's latest windows Vista drivers(Creative Sound Blaster Audigy series Vista Driver 2.2.0002), thus It leads me to a Blue Screen during the driver installation process. Please, Does somebody know what could be this problem root causeIt is very weird, even if i try to install this sound card on clean windows vista install, then it leads me to blue screen. Besides, I have another PCMCIA card from another manufacturer, and I was able to install its windows vista drivers with no problem.(It sounds that Creative labs' vista drivers is the problem root cause as I've tested this sound card on a different notebook with windows xp and It worked fine).
3)Does anyone know if creative is planning to release a windows vista driver that allows the users to use all of this sound card featuresSo far the latest driver available doesn't support even DVD-Audio. Have creative labs discontinued this product
I appreciate any help you can give me,
thanks in advance,
Rogerr ZS.

The best advice I can give is to fully remove ALL Creative software. We've compiled a list of entries that will cause problems here. It's very important before installing newer files.http://nomoregoatsoup.wordpress.com/...tall-problems/Then install some better drivers and see if that cures your issues. The 2.2.0002 drivers are really, really awful, 99% of people I've spoken to had problems with them. I personally like 2.5.0002 Hope this helps.

• Can someone please help me with a Sound Blaster Live Probl

I have an older sound blaster Li've card. It stopped working so I tried to install new drivers for it. That diddnt work. I tried to let creative labs web sight try to do it automaticly, but it says no creative labs sound device found. So I took a working card, "The same Kind" and put that one in. When I restarted windows, it told me it found new hardware, but it said it diddnt want to install the new drivers that I downloaded because windows diddnt test them yet. I installed them anyway. This card does the same thing the one I took out did. When I play music in winamp I get an error No Sound Device Found. In media player I get windows cannot play this file there may be a problem with a sound of video device. I checked out my video card it seems to be working. I think I may have changed some settings somewhere but I cant seem to find anything myself. I would just upgrade but I'm afraid There might be something else wrong. Anyone can help I would aprecieate it Thanks in advance

I would really suggest formatting your harddisk and install the os afresh. If the sound card suddenly stop working, most likely it bode signs of the os having some problem already.

• I'm not allowed access to my own files...

Hello all,
Just talked to an Adobe person on the Chat, but he couldn't help me, he told me to get someone on the phone... on the phone, they told me they couldn't help me because my product was too old... they told me to come here and ask for help... now I just hope you guys aren't going to tell me you can't help me, because of some other sort of reason!
Here's my problem:
For a few years now, I use a CS2 for work, both on my office-computer and on my home computer.
Ever since I installed it, on one of the computers the updates of Adobe Acrobat keep popping up, but only get halfway. They start installing, announcing themselves: “Adobe is now installing Acrobat 7.1…” and suddenly, it stops and says: “Windows finds it impossible
to write onto the file  C:\Program files\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\Activex\AcroIEhelper.dll.  Check if you have access to this file”.
It gives me the choice between “resume, ignore, or abort”.  If I choose resume or ignore, the installation goes on till the end and I am asked to reboot. As if everything has gone well.
But it hasn’t.  For when I do, after the computer’s started up again, instead of having an updated Acrobat, the update starts all over again:
“now installing Acrobat 7.1…” until the reboot, the same way again, and so ad infitum.
After a few times, I actually went checking in my computer for this location, to see what was wrong with this file on which Windows seemed to have so much trouble “writing onto”. I searched for the file called AcroIEhelper.dll, but found it wasn’t there…  No wonder they couldn’t write anything on it, I thought!
I copied the file from my disk in the CS-box, and placed it exactly on the location it was supposed to be; at least, that’s what I tried to do,
but soon as I did, a box appeared saying: “You are not allowed to execute this transaction”    (or something of the sort – I’m translating from
Dutch here).  No matter howmany times I try, it always stops me, blocking my access.
It never says why, however.
So, the update is never really finished, I know that now, it's for lack of this blasted file. But I'm never allowed to put it where it belongs.
Ever since, each day when switching on my computer, the first thing I have to do is to stop this Adobe Acrobat update, which
stubbornly -and uselessly- starts installing, before I can start working.  Every single day, and I am sick of it!
The computer it happens on is the second one I installed the CS on, it's a Vista.  I don't think that's the problem, though.  Would it?
I was assured I could install my CS on 3 systems, this was the second. The one in my office is an XP Pro.
Anybody can give me the answer to the refusal of this file? Why am I not allowed access to the files in my own computer?  And is there a
way to MAKE the thing give me access?
Tanks for any help...

Thanks, Markerline. I couldn't reply this weekend, since I had omitted to send my login-password on this forum to my home-computer.  It's at home I'm having the problem: over here at work, nothing bothers asking me if I want to be updated.  (I don't even know whether I'm getting updated at all; I'm not allowed to experiment much whith this one, since I'm in the National network...
I think I've tried it most of the times from an ampty desktop. Nothing to do with Adobe nor anything else working yet.  After all, the update is the first thing that pops up after startup; I have to abort it before I can start doing anything.
I'll try it again, after reading the articles you write about. I might find the answer if I learn more of what this IEhelperthingy is all about.  It's really small, a few 5 MB or so; but it seems to be important enough to cause trouble.
If I never manage to force-squeeze it into the Adobe file, my only hope is to get rid of these eternal useless attempts to update to Acrobat 7.1.  I'd be happy to go on working with number 6 or whatever I have right now, as long as I'm not constantly pestered by a never-ending update.
My old computer never told me I wasn't allowed to do what I wanted to it, the way this one does. I find it annoying! It makes me feel like it takes me for a fool....
